Tamworth railway station remains closed with trains not stopping at the station as British Transport Police investigate after a man was found dead in the car park overnight
A UK railway station was shut down today after a body was discovered in its car park.
Tamworth station became the focus of a murder investigation following the discovery of a 28 year old man’s body in the car park during the early hours of Sunday, March 8.
A 28 year old woman was arrested in connection with his death and remained in police custody this afternoon, reports Birmingham Live.

Officers established a cordon surrounding the area whilst forensic teams examined the scene for evidence. Rail passengers faced considerable disruption as the station remained closed with trains unable to stop.
CrossCountry trains alerted passengers: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Tamworth. Services running through this station will be cancelled or diverted. Tamworth will not be served.”
The disruption was anticipated to continue until approximately 2.30pm, according to National Rail.
Routes affected include:
- Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street
- CrossCountry between Exeter St Davids / Birmingham New Street and Leeds, and also between Cardiff Central / Birmingham New Street and Nottingham
- London Northwestern Railway between London Euston and Crewe
National Rail stated: The emergency services are in attendance at an incident near Tamworth station. Whilst they complete their work, trains are unable to call at Tamworth station.
“This is affecting trains serving both the High Level and Low Level platforms, and the station is currently closed. Disruption is expected 2.30pm.”
Travellers were advised to check before journeying and utilise rail replacement services provided by Stagecoach wherever possible. The British Transport Police, leading the murder investigation, confirmed that a scene guard is still in place “whilst police carry out a forensic examination of the scene.”
Detective Inspector Marvin Bruno stated: “Our specialist family liaison officers are providing support to the victim’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this time.
“We are urging anyone with any information or anyone who witnessed events leading up to the man’s death to get in touch with us.”
