A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Spanish city of Granada in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The regional government said houses and cars were damaged, but no injuries had been reported.

The earthquake hit the metropolitan area of Alhendín just after 1am on Sunday.

Spanish television channel TVE showed debris strewn on the street and some damage to cars in the popular tourist city.

Andalusian emergency services rescued a number of people from damaged buildings.

Antonio Sanz Cabello, vice-president of the Andalusian regional government, said in a post on X on Saturday that authorities had declared an emergency.

“If you’re in Granada, you’ve felt the earthquake, you’re okay, and your home shows no damage, stay calm and avoid entering and exiting buildings unnecessarily,” he said.

“On the street, stay away from facades, cornices, balconies, walls, and other elements that could fall.”

Slipknot have finally addressed the growing speculation that Sid Wilson has left the band in a now-deleted confirmation.

Last month, a source claimed that Wilson, 49, was out of the group permanently but posts from band members seemed to contradict this.

Guitarist Jim Root warned fans not to ‘believe everything you read’ before yet another source said Wilson’s behaviour had been the catalyst for his exit.

Now, Slipknot has confirmed Wilson is leaving the band, only to delete that statement minutes later.

Taking to Instagram, the heavy metal band wrote: Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best with his future endeavours.

Fans screenshot the announcement and have widely shared it but the Wait and Bleed singers have not addressed the issue any further.

Speculation started on July 31, when TMZ’s source reported Wilson was ‘notified late Friday afternoon that he’s been permanently kicked out of the band.’

Slipknot stayed quiet but Root shared: ‘Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for a while. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.’

However, no more information came forward from the group or Wilson to clarify the situation.

Then TMZ doubled down on the report, revealing sources ‘with direct knowledge’ had told them the group had ‘finally had enough of his behaviour’.

‘Namely, the way he treated his bandmates,’ the outlet claimed. ‘We’re told the firing was a long time coming — not some abrupt decision made in the heat of the moment.’

But at the inaugural World Scratch Invitational earlier this week, Wilson introduced himself as ‘from the world famous Slipknot’.

His Instagram bio still reads ‘@slipknot gang since 1997’ and he has not unfollowed his bandmates. The official account also still follows him.

Slipknot’s lineup hasn’t had the easiest time of late with Chris Fehn, longtime percussionist, being dismissed in 2019 over a financial legal dispute.

In 2023, Craig Jones – who had been with the group since 1996 – up and left with no public explanation.

That same year, drummer Jay Weinberg was also fired over what the band called ‘creative differences’. He said he was ‘blindsided’ and ‘heartbroken’ by it.

Wilson is yet to address the split, having been posting about his DJing and home life on socials rather than mentioning Slipknot directly.

He might have not said anything but his ex Kelly Osbourne had some sharp words for him, even if she didn’t call him out by name.

The 40-year-old shared a string of cryptic Instagram Stories urging someone to ‘take some responsibility’ before demanding the return of her dogs, belongings, and even child support.

The TV personality then suggested she had reached the end of her tether. ‘I want to be happy and I have a beautiful son to raise,’ she continued.

‘Leave me alone. Let me heal. I can’t protect you from yourself anymore.’

She also told him to ‘wake up’ and ‘take some responsibility’. Yikes.

Metro has reached out to Slipknot and Wilson for comment.

A statement from Heathrow Airport on X reads: “Flooding in the central terminal area has resulted in on-going road closures restricting access to Terminals 2 and 3.

There is no uniform approach to youth development among Premier League clubs.

International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) figures for 2025-26 show club-trained players accounted for 16.2% of Manchester City‘s Premier League minutes, followed by Chelsea on 15.5% and Brighton on 12.5%.

CIES defines a club-trained player as someone registered with their current club for at least three full seasons, or 36 months, between the ages of 15 and 21. That means an 18-year-old recruited from an EFL academy can still go on to qualify as club-trained if he spends the next three seasons with his new Premier League club.

At the other end of the scale, Tottenham‘s club-trained players accounted for just 0.1% of league minutes, while Bournemouth, Brentford and Burnley were all at zero.

Recruiting from EFL and Scottish academies therefore offers another way of building that development pipeline.

Rather than relying solely on players who have been with a club since childhood, a Premier League side can identify somebody developed elsewhere, bring them into their under-21 structure at 17, 18 or 19 and take responsibility for the final stages of their development.

The numbers do not yet show a relentless increase. There were 18 such moves in 2023-24, meaning this summer’s 14 cannot be described as unprecedented.

But the concentration of 18-year-olds and League One players suggests clubs are becoming increasingly precise about the market they are targeting.

For EFL clubs, that raises questions over how long their best youngsters can realistically be retained.

For Premier League clubs, the calculation is different. The next Watkins, Eze, Wharton or Semenyo may already be somewhere further down the pyramid. The challenge is finding them before everybody else does.

Crews were called to incidents in Northallerton, Acomb, Monk Fryston, York, Selby and Scarborough, with several alerts found to involve supervised barbecues or braziers.

An hour later, Acomb firefighters were called to a similar incident involving a brazier. However, due to embers coming from it, the crew extinguished the fire using a hose.

A crew from Selby responded to reports of smoke coming from a controlled burn in the Monk Fryston area at 8.14pm, which turned out to be a false alarm.

Later, at 8.39pm, York firefighters responded to a fire in a field.

The fire turned out to be a pile of leaves and organic matter, which was believed to have caught fire due to self-combustion. Crews used a hose to dampen down the area.

At 9.04pm, Scarborough firefighters were called to a fire in the rear garden of a property in Eastfield.

This turned out to be a controlled burn in a brazier and advice was given to the person in attendance.

At around 9.12pm, York firefighters were called to another garden fire.

This was also a small fire in a brazier, under supervision, and advice was given.

At 4.39am, York firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm activation, which turned out to be a false alarm.

The shallower an earthquake is, the more destructive its effects on the surface tend to be.

Strong aftershocks were felt in the same area, including one with a magnitude of 6.1.

Video taken at the port in Maumere showed large chunks of concrete breaking off the terminal building onto passengers waiting to board an inter-island ferry. Some were thrown into the sea when the gangway to a ship collapsed.

Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, governor of East Nusa Tenggara province, told a news conference that they were killed in their sleep by collapsing rubble.

Arnold Welianto, who lives in Talibura, a village near the coastline in Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara, said he was awoken by the “very strong shaking”, adding: “I was startled awake and immediately went to my child’s room.”

He told the BBC that many people had already fled into the hills.

“Some other residents were standing along the roadside because the sea had also receded,” he explained. “The water remained low for quite some time, so everyone panicked and ran – I went around to the community health centre, and the people there had already been evacuated.”

A tsunami warning was issued but lifted around three hours after the initial jolt when no significant sea level rise was detected.

A stream of people could be seen moving inland on motorbikes after authorities issued a tsunami warning. BNPB said 2,000 people had evacuated or relocated on their own.

It said three fatalities had been recorded in Sikka province, six in Manggarai province, and five in East Manggarai province.

At least two others had been seriously injured and 11 slightly injured, the disaster agency added.
