The soaps regularly get moved about for football matches, and this week is no different.

Here’s what we know about the changes and which episodes the TV schedule shakeup affects.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street to see schedule changes this week

The Women’s European Qualifier is being shown on ITV1 this week.

England will take on Spain with coverage airing from 6.30pm on ITV1 on Tuesday, April 14, with kick-off at 7pm.

Since it crosses over into the soap slots, Emmerdale and Corrie have both changed their usual schedules.

Emmerdale fans tune into the soap from 8pm on ITV1 on Monday through to Friday, but this week, the Tuesday episode on April 14 will not air.

Instead, fans can look forward to an episode at 7pm on Sunday, April 19.

Emmerdale’s most shocking deaths

Coronation Street usually airs from 8.30pm on the same channel on Monday through to Friday, but there will be no Tuesday episode.

The soap will, however, air on Sunday too with an episode starting after Emmerdale, at 7.30pm on ITV1.

Apart from these changes for the England match, the soaps will run as normal this week.

In 2025, ITV announced changes to its soap schedule, including Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

From January 2026, the broadcaster introduced a “soaps power hour” on weekdays with 30-minute Emmerdale episodes at 8pm and 30-minute Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm.

Coronation Street previously aired for three hour-long episodes a week, while Emmerdale aired four 30-minute episodes and one hour-long instalment.

In May 2025, ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said the company was making “good progress” on a cost-cutting drive, and that she expected to make £30 million of non-content savings during 2025.

ITV also introduced changes to its popular daytime TV shows such as Good Morning Britain (GMB) and Lorraine.

From January this year, GMB has been extended by half an hour, while Lorraine Kelly’s morning talk show has been reduced to 30 minutes for 30 weeks of the year.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder following an investigation into the suspicious death of pregnant Hayley McClenahan-Ernst in 2017 and will appear in court on Tuesday

A man will appear in court after being charged with the 2017 death of a 21-year-old.

The man has been charged with murder following an investigation into the suspicious death of Hayley McClenahan-Ernst at Kingswood, in western Sydney, Australia. She was pregnant at the time of the incident.

Police were called to a home at about 12.15am on Sunday 21 May 2017, where Hayley was found unresponsive.

New South Wales Ambulance paramedics rendered assistance, but Hayley died at the scene.

A 21-year-old man, known to Hayley, was charged at the time with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (DV) and was dealt with by the courts.

But detectives attended a property at Bucca, north of Coffs Harbour just before 7.30am on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 and arrested a 30-year-old man.

Footage shared by NSW Police showed the tattooed man handcuffed and being led into a police vehicle.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with murder and will appear before Bail Division – Court One later in the day.

The circumstances surrounding Hayley’s death were deemed suspicious and extensive investigations were conducted after her death in 2017.

In 2025, a coronial inquest was suspended and the matter was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In October 2025, detectives attached to Nepean Police Command reviewed the matter and have continued to conduct inquiries.

After further inquiries and a public appeal, strike force detective arrested the 30-year-old man almost nine years after Hayley’s death.

Let’s get the hard part out of the way first and give credit where it’s due to Armagh. There are lots of holes to pick in their performance, but to come out on top of what was a serious physical battle having played the majority of extra-time a man down speaks to their resilience.

Each time Armagh take the field from here out will feel like a national referendum on their All-Ireland prospects, but they would be wise to try to block that out over the next few weeks. By the time the All-Ireland quarter finals roll round, this battle on a heavy pitch on a wind-swept April day will feel a distant memory.

The Tyrone team and their management will be sickened by the result. Once they pick themselves up there will be plenty to take encouragement from.

Those positives won’t necessarily be found by doing video-analysis of this game – there was an abundance of mistakes throughout, whether it was poor shot selection or tackling that left a lot to be desired.

Those Tyrone players should be thinking to themselves that despite playing below their best, and despite losing two of their very top players, they took a team who many view as an All-Ireland contender to extra-time and were within a whisker of winning the bout.

Malachy O’Rourke would, of course, prefer to be preparing for Fermanagh and having a rattle thereafter at Donegal, but I think he’ll also see the positives of having six or seven weeks to prepare for the All-Ireland series.

This would have potentially been a difficult period to navigate if Tyrone had been swatted aside by Armagh on Sunday.

These post-provincial breaks can often result in players drifting from panels. However, the spirit of this performance will give players a renewed belief that they can go places with the current squad and under the current management team.

One player clearly not in need of added belief is Conn Kilpatrick. His mentality on Sunday was on a different level, and it eventually spread through to his team mates.

In the first half, when Tyrone were really under the cosh, it was Conn that drove forward with the ball. A passage of play that summed up his performance was the tenth minute, when Tyrone were still scoreless and had fallen two points behind.

Conn took a freekick from the spot where Brian Kennedy had suffered his injury. He tried an ill-advised outside-of-the-boot pass into the full-forward line, which was subsequently punched over the sideline by an Armagh defender. Rather than hide for a few minutes and get a few handy handpasses under the belt, Conn ran forward to take the sideline, played a one-two, accelerated into the heart of the Armagh defence and kicked over a great point with his weak foot to get his team on the scoreboard.

He is not as celebrated as a Paul Conroy or Conor Glass, but he is as essential to his county as those men are to theirs.

Looking forward to this weekend, I’m interested to see what sort of challenge Cavan can put up to Monaghan. Like Tyrone, Cavan’s League campaign as a whole was underwhelming.

However, they ran a strong Derry team close in the final league game of the season, and racking up four two-pointers from four different kickers bodes well.

Monaghan shipped big scores throughout the league and it feels like years of punching above their weight is finally catching up. One thing I would say about Monaghan is they have been excellent in generating massive improvement in performances mid-season. It is for that reason I won’t be predicting their demise just yet.

Meanwhile in Celtic Park this weekend, one of the dark horses of the season will be getting their campaign under way. Derry put 20 points on Division One-bound Cork last month, so I’m not hopeful for Antrim’s chances.

I don’t think this weekend will give us too much enlightenment as to what Derry’s capable of this year.

When forced to give my predictions for the year last week I tipped them for Ulster.

I don’t see them as the strongest team or even the second strongest team in the province at the minute, but the draw has been kind to them and I think they have the weapons to ambush Donegal or Armagh and re-emerge at the top table of All-Ireland contenders.

The main concerns I would have with Derry competing for the Sam Maguire are panel depth and physicality. Whilst they have introduced some new faces into the squad, the core of the team is still as it was in 2023- Brendan Rodgers, Conor Glass, Gareth McKinless, Conor and Ethan Doherty, Padraig McGrogan and Shane McGuigan.

These men are ably assisted by a lot of good players in the starting lineup, but do they have a sub that can make the type of impact that Oisin O’Neill made on Sunday, or the types of forwards in reserve that Kerry or Galway do?

At the minute it seems not to be the case but Saturday is likely to provide a good opportunity for a fringe player or two to put themselves forward as a solution for Ciaran Meenagh when bigger challenges arrive.

During her time on the cobbles, Liz was involved in several major storylines, including being in an abusive marriage to husband Jim (Charlie Lawson), money problems, and repeated battles to protect her son Steve (Simon Gregson).

In later years, her storylines increasingly revolved around the Rovers pub.

Beverley Callard talks future on Coronation Street

Callard has left Coronation Street several times, in 1998, 2001, 2011, and then again in 2020.

The 69-year-old previously revealed (on the podcast How to be 60) that she left the soap in 2020 because the scripts “weren’t what they used to be”.

On-screen, viewers saw Callard’s character Liz move to Spain.

Despite her departure from the show Callard, speaking to the Daily Star, said she was “so proud to be a part of it” and “I’d never say never” to a comeback.

She said: “I can’t now because I’m filming something else but I think you should never say never.

“I loved my time there, you don’t stay in something for 32 years if you didn’t love it, but I think the workload and the way it’s filmed, certainly when you’re in a big storyline, you’re there all day, every day so I don’t think I’d want that again to that extent.

“I think they have great writers on the show and great actors but I just felt the stories were not there for Liz anymore but I’d never say never.”

Last month, Liz’s estranged husband Jim McDonald died from pneumonia off-screen on Coronation Street.

Callard said she thought Corrie bosses were “crazy” to kill off her on-screen husband.

“He doesn’t suffer fools, he’s brutally honest but he’s wonderful and I think they’re crazy for killing Jim McDonald off.

“I think it’s a shame that opportunity will no longer exist.”

Callard also appeared on series 20 of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here back in 2020, which was filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She is now taking part in the second series of I’m a Celebrity – South Africa, alongside fellow all-stars, including Harry Redknapp, Craig Charles, Sinitta, and Seann Walsh.

The former soap star announced in February that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and is documenting her journey on social media.

Due to a recent diagnosis, fans were concerned when Callard appeared on the new series of I’m a Celebrity, not realising the show had been filmed late last year, prior to her diagnosis.

They were angered further when David Haye pushed for Callard to be sent to the Savannah Scrub (the more basic of the two camps) in the first episode.

After days of meals of rice and beans and being more exposed to the elements, the Savannah Scrub group eventually joined the main camp.

Upon her arrival back to the main group, Callard said to Haye: “Oh you’ve had some stick.”

Before adding: “He was mean to me. I was going, ‘I’m gonna chin him when we get in there!’”

Reflecting on her return to the main camp, having now seen it on the TV, Callard, via The Sun, revealed she wishes she’d said more.

She explained: “When I was watching it last night — I actually thought I was too easy on him. I did.

“I mean, you’ve got to wait and see what happens, but I actually thought I was too easy on him when I first got back into main camp.

“I did say a lot more than that — it was edited out — but I think I was too easy on him when we first met again.”

Michael Carrick spoke after Man United’s defeat to Leeds in the Premier League on Monday night.

Michael Carrick defended Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte after the Leeds defeat on Monday. Ugarte started for the first time under Carrick as Leeds claimed a first league win at Old Trafford for 45 years.

The midfielder failed to stop the cross into the box for Leeds’ opening goal and there were groans from United fans when he misplaced a few passes. Ugarte has now started 10 games for United this season, and he has won just once in that spell (against Newcastle on Boxing Day).

However, Carrick did not believe Ugarte was a problem against Leeds, insisting during his post-match press conference that he was pleased with the 25-year-old’s contribution, particularly after the sending off.

When asked if Ugarte’s form was a concern, Carrick said: “No, no, I think when he’s played since I’ve been here… Whatever has gone on before has gone on before and it’s not for me to comment on that.

“Since I’ve come in, and he’s played and come on, he’s been fine. I think tonight was a tough game, not just for Manu. It was one of those games when it was a tough night. I actually thought, especially when we went down to 10 men, that he did a lot of covering for other players to be able to attack.”

Ugarte came into the starting team in the absence of Kobbie Mainoo. Mainoo picked up a small injury in training during preparations to face Leeds, and United staff did not want to risk the youngster.

That means Mainoo could return in time to face Chelsea this weekend at Stamford Bridge. Discussing whether he’d seen enough from United in the second half against Leeds, Carrick said: “I have to say whatever has happened tonight is not going to change my opinion for what we are as a team.

“We’ve built enough with a foundation to understand what we’re good at and what we need to improve at. It will be a big end to the season, there’s no getting away from it, but the character and mentality of the boys wanting to do well, I’ve never doubted that, and I won’t doubt that.

“The boys are desperate to do well and improve. We’ve done a lot of good things so far and we need to do more.”

The U.S. military said it carried out another strike Monday on a boat accused of trafficking drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing two people.

The campaign of attacks on vessels that the Trump administration says are trafficking drugs in Latin American waters has persisted for more than seven months and continues even as the military has been preoccupied for more than six weeks with the Iran war.

It was the second day in a row that U.S. Southern Command announced a strike on social media. It said Sunday that it blew up two boats in the eastern Pacific on Saturday, killing a total of five people and leaving one survivor. It was not immediately clear what happened to that person.

With the latest attack Monday, at least 170 people have been killed in the boat strikes since the effort began in early September, months ahead of the U.S. raid in January that captured then-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He was brought to New York to face drug trafficking charges and has pleaded not guilty.

U.S. Southern Command repeated previous statements by saying it had targeted the alleged drug traffickers along known smuggling routes. The military did not provide evidence that the vessel was ferrying drugs. It posted a video on X showing a small boat floating in the water before a huge blast hits it and smoke is seen pouring from the vessel.

President Donald Trump has said the U.S. is in “armed conflict” with cartels in Latin America and has justified the attacks as a necessary escalation to stem the flow of drugs into the United States and fatal overdoses claiming American lives. But his administration has offered little evidence to support its claims of killing “narcoterrorists.”

Trump on Monday appeared to reference the tactic of boat strikes in Latin America while issuing new threats against Tehran as a blockade of Iranian ports took effect.

“Warning: If any of these ships come anywhere close to our BLOCKADE, they will be immediately ELIMINATED, using the same system of kill that we use against the drug dealers on boats at Sea,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The funding forms part of the government’s new Arts Everywhere Fund — a £1.5 billion programme to support arts and heritage infrastructure across England — and will help improve public access and upgrade vital facilities.

Among the recipients are the Baltic Flour Mills Visual Arts Trust, the Museum of Hartlepool and Northumberland Libraries.

Seven organisations in the region will receive funding through the Creative Foundations Fund (CFF) to carry out urgent building improvements and infrastructure repairs.

The Baltic Flour Mills Visual Arts Trust will receive £3,649,800 for critical upgrades and essential maintenance to support its exhibitions and activities.

Northern Stage will receive £192,600; Queen’s Hall Arts, £393,068; Gateway Studio CIO (New Trinity), £400,000; Middlesbrough Council Cultural Services, £2,595,000; The Cluny Events (North East) CIC, £334,000; and Thirty-Six Lime Street Limited, £847,932.

The Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND) will distribute almost £3 million across two museums in the region.

Hartlepool Borough Council will receive £2,458,641 for urgent works at the Museum of Hartlepool, including improvements to protect and display its collection and enable the reopening of PS Wingfield Castle.

Chesters Roman Fort & Museum has been awarded £476,566 via English Heritage to carry out urgent repair works which have been caused by water ingress.

Three library services will benefit from the Libraries Improvement Fund (LIF).

Hartlepool Borough Council will receive £94,400, Northumberland Libraries £491,022, and Gateshead Council’s library service £71,794.

Rebecca Ball, area director for the North at Arts Council England, said: “Our museums, libraries and arts organisations have the power to change lives, they give us access to new worlds, teach us about our heritage and give us new perspectives on life.

“I’m so pleased that we’ll be supporting so many of our cultural organisations in the North with this capital investment, which will ensure that they can continue to deliver incredible arts and culture to their communities.”

The funding will support a range of improvement projects across the North East.

For example, 36 Lime Street in Newcastle, home to the city’s longest-running artist studio collective, will be refurbished to improve accessibility and energy efficiency.

The upgrades will ensure affordable studio space for more than 50 artists and expand opportunities for young people and schools.

In Hartlepool, the funding will support Museum of Hartlepool in carrying out essential repairs and enhancing its visitor experience.

Visitors in Northumberland will benefit from extended library opening hours and improved self-service technology, allowing access beyond current staffed times.

A portion of the funding will also be used to improve Gateshead’s MakerPlace, a digital design and craft space for community groups, schools and individuals.

The upgrade will include new equipment such as VR headsets, soundproof pods, sound recording and podcasting facilities, and compatible software.

The improvements are aimed at attracting new users and enabling greater flexibility for different types of sessions and events.

Ms Nandy said: “Arts and culture are the beating hearts of our communities, they have the power to unite us in the face of division and break down barriers to opportunity.

“We want to harness the power to help us build a brighter future for the people of the North East.”

The next rounds of these funds will open for applications in the coming months. Further details on the Museum Estate and Development Fund, and the new Museum Transformation Programme, along with the Libraries Improvement Fund will be announced in due course.

The Arts Everywhere Fund hopes to safeguard more than 1,000 arts venues, museums, libraries and heritage buildings across England.

Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade and Joy Division/New Order will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, along with first-time nominees Wu-Tang Clan and the late Luther Vandross.

The list was revealed on Monday night’s airing of “American Idol.” Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they’re eligible for induction. Nominees were voted on by more than 1,200 artists, historians and music industry professionals.

Soft rocker Collins, who already is in the hall as a member of Genesis, has had such solo hits as “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” and has earned eight Grammys, including album of the year in 1985 for “No Jacket Required.” Collins got in the first time he appeared on the ballot.

Soul-jazz vocalist Sade, also nominated in 2024, had such soft rock hits as “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo.” The Wu-Tang Clan have been hailed as rap innovators since their game-changing 1993 debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang.”

Iron Maiden, nominated twice before, helped power the new wave of British heavy metal with iconic albums like “The Number of the Beast.” Vandross, who sold more than 25 million albums and had the hits “Here and Now” and “Any Love,” died in 2005 and inspired Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther.”

This year, the hall will open its arms to the sounds of Manchester, England, inducting post-punk pioneers Joy Division and New Order — which shared most of the same members — as well as Britpop’s recently reunited Oasis, made up of Noel and Liam Gallagher. Idol, also English, has brought a punky sneer to pop with songs like “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell.”

The induction will be held Nov. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. A TV presentation will air in December on ABC and Disney+. Next year, the ceremony will return to the hall’s home of Cleveland.

Those nominated this year but who came up short for the class of 2026 include Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition and Shakira.

In addition to the performer category, inductees entering the hall can arrive under three special committee categories: early influence, musical excellence and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

The early influence award this year will honor Queen Latifah, Cuban singer Celia Cruz, Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, rapper MC Lyte and country rocker Gram Parsons. The musical excellence will honor songwriter Linda Creed and producers Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller and Rick Rubin.

More than 50 years after his death, Ed Sullivan, the legendary host of his self-titled appointment-viewing TV show, will go into the hall with the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. It’s a recognition of how important his Sunday night stage became as a launchpad for nearly every musical icon of the 1950s and ’60s and of how his show helped break racial barriers in American entertainment.

Last year, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Soundgarden, Joe Cocker, Salt-N-Pepa, The White Stripes, Carol Kaye, Nicky Hopkins, Lenny Waronker, Thom Bell and Warren Zevon all were inducted.

A GP has identified five critical warning signs that should prompt an immediate visit to the doctor. He stated he would “definitely want to see you” should any of these symptoms present themselves.

In a video posted on Instagram, ITV doctor Amir Khan highlighted several potentially serious symptoms that ought not to be ignored. Speaking to his one million followers, Dr Amir said: “Here are five things I would definitely want to see you for as a GP.”

These include:

• The sensation of food or drink becoming lodged in your throat during swallowing (dysphagia)
• Mouth ulcers persisting for three weeks
• Unexplained heavy night sweats
• Unexplained lumps
• Unexplained bone pain

Dysphagia

This could signal oesophageal cancer. Dr Amir explained: “The feeling of food or drink getting stuck in your throat when you try to swallow – this is called dysphagia.

“It can sometimes cause coughing, choking and vomiting – there are several different causes but we need to rule out a cancer of the food pipe or other parts of the upper digestive track.”

Mouth ulcers

While most mouth ulcers prove benign, persistent ones require examination. Dr Amir added: “An unexplained mouth ulcer that has been there for three weeks or more.

“Mouth cancer can affect anyone but it is more common in those who smoke or use alcohol excessively – please do get that checked.”

Night sweats

Nocturnal perspiration can be perfectly normal, though excessive amounts may warrant attention. “Unexplained heavy or drenching night sweats,” Dr Amir explained.

“Yes, I know you can get these from the menopause, but if you can’t explain these sweats away, come and speak to us.”

Lumps

He continued: “Now new unexplained lumps anywhere should be checked, but if you have a new lump in your neck even it feels like a lymph node, if it is more than 1cm or feels hard rubbery or remains there for three weeks or more, please do get that checked.”

Bone pain

“And lastly unexplained bone pain especially if you are over 50, especially in the back, pelvis, and ribs, if you don’t remember any kind of injury or movement that can explain it – do get it checked out,” he said.

Dr Amir concluded: “Now I know it’s hard to get an appointment and we are doing our best, but the bottom line is any persistent unexplained should be checked by a healthcare professional.”

Night sweats

Nocturnal perspiration can be perfectly normal, though excessive amounts may warrant attention. “Unexplained heavy or drenching night sweats,” Dr Amir explained.

“Yes, I know you can get these from the menopause, but if you can’t explain these sweats away, come and speak to us.”

Lumps

He continued: “Now new unexplained lumps anywhere should be checked, but if you have a new lump in your neck even it feels like a lymph node, if it is more than 1cm or feels hard rubbery or remains there for three weeks or more, please do get that checked.”

Bone pain

“And lastly unexplained bone pain especially if you are over 50, especially in the back, pelvis, and ribs, if you don’t remember any kind of injury or movement that can explain it – do get it checked out,” he said.

Dr Amir concluded: “Now I know it’s hard to get an appointment and we are doing our best, but the bottom line is any persistent unexplained should be checked by a healthcare professional.”
