UK travellers face EU border checks from September 7

UK travellers face EU border checks from September 7

People flying from Britain to countries such as Spain and France are being told to be aware of the new Entry/Exit System (EES).

The automated border check is for all non-EU nationals and comes into full force on Monday, September 7.

What is the Entry/Exit System and what does it mean for the UK?

The system means anyone from third-party countries such as the UK will have to register their fingerprints and have their photograph taken before entering certain countries.

The countries this applies to are the Schengen Area, which consists of 29 European countries.

The EES was first launched back in April and caused incredibly long queues for many travellers.

A few countries have been able to pause these checks in “exceptional circumstances” such as when queues are getting too long.

However, from September 7, they will no longer be able to do this.

Places such as Greece, France, and Spain have all temporarily paused the EES during some of the countries’ busiest periods like the summer holidays.

People travelling have been told to leave extra time when getting through the border and they should expect queues.

The government has released some advice and information about the new system.

The government website says: “On your first visit to the Schengen area, you may be asked to create a digital record at the port or airport on arrival.

“You may be asked to submit your fingerprints and have your photo taken at dedicated booths.

“You don’t need to provide any information before travelling to a Schengen area country.

“The checks may take slightly longer than previously, so be prepared to wait during busy times.

“If you enter the Schengen area through the Port of Dover, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle at Folkestone or Eurostar, St Pancras International, any EES checks will be completed at the border, before you leave the UK.

Robert Pattinson’s whole career has been building up to Primetime

Robert Pattinson’s whole career has been building up to Primetime
Robert Pattinson produces alongside starring in Primetime (Picture: A24)

Robert Pattinson has been celebrated in recent years for the breadth and daring of his films and acting – but even still, Primetime takes it to the next level.

Playing real-life paedophile hunter Chris Hansen, a former Dateline NBC correspondent who broke through into primetime schedules (hence the film’s name) from 2004 to 2007 with his To Catch a Predator show, Pattinson takes perhaps the most creative risks of his career so far, flipping between a performance grounded in remarkable voice work as he imitates Hansen – already a popular meme – and wilder, unpredictable swings.

He’s never been so free on screen, something you can’t help but admire, and in a sense it feels like Pattinson – surely soon to be an Oscar nominee, if voters can get behind such an uncategorisable turn – has been building to this kind of performance his whole career.

Rather than rush through a potted biography, Primetime drops the audience directly into the scenario Hansen became so famous for – preparing to confront a suspected online predator on camera as part of a sting organised by the organisation Perverted Justice, lured to the house by an adult posing as a minor.

It’s unsettling from the start as we hear Pattinson’s Hansen practising his line delivery of the suspected paedophile’s quotes: ‘I will undress you and you will undress me’, ‘For a virgin to have sex, it hurts.’

This first sting shows a veteran (Tony Revolori) being confronted as soon as he mentions condoms to decoy Del Harvey (singer Phoebe Bridgers in her debut acting role) by Hansen. Pattinson theatrically enters from behind a curtain and walks down the stairs, asking if his target has a ‘big night planned’? This flamboyance breaks the tension and gives the first big clue that Primetime perhaps isn’t what you expected.

The film revolves around sting operations with decoys posing as minors (pictured here are Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers) (Picture: A24)

The second is Hansen breaking his stern onscreen character for a moment to give an enthusiastic thumbs up back to his producer Andie (Merritt Weaver) after the predator is tackled by police outside.

While the film is dealing with the very dark material of the programme, it also gets stuck into exploring the showmanship of Hansen as he becomes more and more used to being an entertainment star, not just a broadcaster, and as the reputation of To Catch a Predator grows.

Writer Ajon Singh, director Lance Oppenheim and Pattinson (also producing) have fun with this – Hansen is pleased to tell his fellow plane passenger all about how he singlehandedly convinced the network to commission the show, while he also wakes up his young sons in the middle of the night to watch preview tapes.

We’re also treated to a wonderful Pattinson freakout moment when How to Catch a Predator is pitted against Lost as it moves to its coveted new slot, making Hansen giddy with excitement.

Release date

Primetime will release in UK cinemas on October 30. It comes out in the US on September 25.

In fact it’s former CEO of NBCU TV Jeff Zucker playing himself in this scene, another move blurring the line between fiction and reality in Primetime, which operates in a space Oppenheim has dubbed ‘docufantasia’. The movie’s big tonal fluctuations  – including an unexpected journey into the supernatural which doesn’t quite land for me, also make it harder to pigeonhole.

The emotional heart of the film is introduced by Dan Plum (Skyler Gisondo), a fictionalised decoy looking for his big break and not fully aware of what he’s signed up to until he’s thrust on set for a sting – and given a baptism of fire thanks to Crazyfrog73 (played by former child star Jonathan Lipnicki from Stuart Little), who drops his trousers to spray whipped cream on his genitals. Hansen is then dispatched by Andie to keep Dan in play after his emotional whiplash to how things unfolded.

However, with a great primetime slot comes great responsibility as the team start looking for a ‘whale’, someone considered part of the establishment, to sensationalise their coverage and attract higher viewing figures. But it drives more of a wedge between producer Andie and Xavier, founder of Perverted Justice.

Pattinson’s performance as Chris Hansen had already won fan praise from the trailer alone (Picture: A24)

Primetime raises questions over To Catch a Predator’s morality and grey areas, and leans into humour, some of it pitch dark, and far more than I anticipated given its topic. A lot of that can be credited to Pattinson’s highly charged performance, consistently dialled up to the maximum. The passion for his crusade turns Hansen a little delusional and slightly crazed as the pressure mounts; you can’t tear your eyes away from it.

I’m not sure it’s the most flattering portrayal of the journalist – who has already criticised the production – as he’s shown using his full onscreen credit when complaining about a broken vending machine. Meanwhile, a scene with his wife Mary (Anna Faris) may just hint, ever so slightly, at a foot fetish. The film also runs with the 2011 tabloid report of his alleged affair with a local TV journalist in Florida.

Having said this, the Primetime leaves you in no doubt just how much Hansen’s qualities – tenacity, drive and pizazz – all fed To Catch a Predator’s success.

Verdict

Audacious, imaginative and darkly funny, Primetime is not what I expected at all. And Robert Pattinson in predator-catching mode has to be seen to truly understand how it can work so well.

Primetime premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, September 5. It releases in UK cinemas on October 30, 2026.

Moore throws for 3 TDs and No. 2 Oregon overcomes a slow start to beat Boise State 34-27

Moore throws for 3 TDs and No. 2 Oregon overcomes a slow start to beat Boise State 34-27

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Dante Moore threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 2 Oregon overcame a slow start to down resilient Boise State 34-27 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

After trading field goals to tie the game at 27 in the fourth quarter, Dakorien Moore scored on a 62-yard reception to give the Ducks the lead for good with 7:51 left to play.

Oregon has won 16 straight season openers at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks have 39 straight wins at home against nonconference opponents, the longest streak in the nation.

“I think, you know, we’ve learned a lot this offseason. There’s been times our practice where the offense has started super slow, and coach (Dan) Lanning said, ‘Hey, it’s adversity. What you gonna do?’ So it all just comes back to how we respond,” Dante Moore said.

He opted to stay at Oregon after throwing for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns last season when the Ducks went 13-2.

Oregon was hurt by 10 penalties for 90 yards, but had 497 total yards on offense comparted to Boise State’s 274.

“We won the game with total yards and some situations, but we didn’t really win the critical situations,” Lanning said. “They won some of those critical situations. They played better in special teams than us today. They did better on fourth down. We kind of gave them an opportunity, a chance to hang around.”

Boise State returned quarterback in Maddux Madsen, who threw for 181 yards and three scores in the opener after finishing last season with 2,334 yards passing and 18 touchdowns.

The Broncos, who join the rebuilt Pac-12 this year, went 9-5 last season in the Mountain West and fell to Washington 38-10 in the LA Bowl.

Boise State, which went into the game as 24 1/2 point underdogs, scored on the first series of the game, with Madsen hitting Cam Bates with a 13-yard scoring pass to cap an 11-play, 75-yard drive. The Ducks tied it on Jordon Davison’s 1-yard dive early in the second quarter.

After Evan Stewart muffed a punt and the Broncos recovered, Sire Gaines scored on a 37-yard reception to give Boise State the lead again. Canaan Moore added a 29-yard field goal to extend it with 2:48 left before halftime.

With 19 seconds left, Dante Moore found Jamari Johnson with a 27-yard pass to close the game to 17-14 at the break.

The half was reminiscent of the last meeting between the teams in 2024. The Ducks fell behind 20-14 at halftime but pulled out a 37-34 win with a field goal as time expired.

After Gage Hurych’s 26-yard field goal, Oregon went ahead on Jeremiah McClellan’s 8-yard TD catch. But the Broncos tied it up again before the end of the third quarter on Madsen’s 7-yard scoring pass to Matt Wagner.

Hurych and Canaan Moore traded field goals in the fourth quarter before Dakorien Moore’s touchdown.

“You put your all into something, you put all the chips on the table, and you come up short — it hurts,” said Broncos coach Spencer Danielson. “You put your toe in and you’ve got your eyes other places, you can walk away easier because you can make excuses. We’re not going to make any excuses. We’ve got to find a way to be better.”

Pac-12 Connection

Boise State is one of six football programs making its debut in the rebuilt Pac-12 this season, joining Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State, along with holdovers Washington State and Oregon State.

Oregon, meanwhile, was among the teams that bolted when the conference fell apart amid realignment in the summer of 2023. Since joining the Big Ten in 2024, the Ducks have twice made the College Football Playoff field.

The Pac-12 is no longer a Power Four conference, but the league’s teams still have a shot at the CFP as a Group of Six member.

Up Next

Boise State hosts Memphis next Saturday, while the Ducks head to Oklahoma State.

Lawsuit claims missed red flags before San Diego mosque mass shooting

Lawsuit claims missed red flags before San Diego mosque mass shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Just days before two teenagers carried out a mass shooting at a San Diego mosque, federal law enforcement officials warned the parents of one of the shooters that their son was making concerning comments about school shootings on the dark web, according to new details included in a recently filed lawsuit.

The mother of Caleb Vazquez alleges in her lawsuit that Park Mental Health Treatment of San Diego failed to intervene despite signs that her 18-year-old son posed an imminent threat to himself and others. Vazquez was living there and receiving treatment for a range of mental health conditions, including depression and psychotic episodes, the lawsuit says. The court filings follow a number of high-profile convictions of guardians who provided teenagers with weapons that were later used in mass shootings.

The FBI called Vazquez’s mother on the evening of May 14, and she said she immediately left a message with the treatment facility to notify its staff, according to the lawsuit, filed in a San Diego court on Aug. 31. Vazquez’s mother again shared the FBI’s warnings with her son’s therapist on May 15 and with a program director later that night.

On May 18, the morning of the shooting, employees at the facility contacted Vazquez’s mother to tell her that he was missing. Video surveillance footage subsequently showed Vazquez leaving the property at 8 p.m. the night before.

Vazquez’s parents were driving around looking for him on the morning of the shooting. Vazquez and another teenager killed three people at the San Diego mosque that day before taking their own lives.

It is unclear whether Vazquez was allowed to leave the previous evening or whether he broke facility rules by doing so. Park Mental Health offers a range of treatment options, some of which advertise 24-hour surveillance, while others provide more limited counseling.

The center did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment Saturday afternoon. In a previous statement to radio station KPBS, Park Mental Health disputed the assertions in the lawsuit.

“While it is understandable that his parents might seek to blame someone in their time of loss, this lawsuit is misguided in that neither Park nor its employees are responsible for Mr. Vazquez’s actions,” the statement to KPBS read. “Only he and his coconspirator bear responsibility for their conduct and, ultimately, his death.”

An FBI spokesperson declined to comment Saturday, citing agency policy.

The FBI’s alleged contact with Vazquez’s parents was not the first sign of his mental deterioration.

Vazquez had been hospitalized for roughly three days in January 2026 after telling a classmate that he wanted to carry out a school shooting.

Almost exactly a year earlier, Vazquez was flagged to law enforcement for exhibiting alarming behavior and idolizing Nazis, prompting police to confiscate 26 guns from his father under a 2014 California law allowing firearms to be taken from people considered dangerous.

Authorities have said Vazquez met the other shooter, Cain Clark, 17, online and that both were radicalized there. Police have not shared more details about how they knew each other or specified whose weapons were used in the shooting.

The lawsuit was filed on the same day that North Carolina authorities announced the indictment of a 17-year-old in connection with the shooting.

Reform’s Zia Yusuf condemns party members who pulled heckler’s hair during Nigel Farage’s keynote speech as police urge woman to come forward

Video footage showed audience members pulling the hair and grabbing the head of a heckler, who was one of a number of protesters who tried to interrupt Nigel Farage's keynote address

Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf today condemned party members after they were seen pulling the hair and grabbing the head of a protester.

A video being widely shared online revealed an incident during Nigel Farage‘s speech at his party’s conference in Birmingham on Friday afternoon.

The footage showed audience members manhandling a heckler who was one of a number of protesters who tried to interrupt the Reform leader’s keynote address.

Demonstrators were thrown out of the main conference hall on four separate occasions at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

After the footage emerged online, West Midlands Police asked for the protester who was thrown out of Reform’s conference to come forward.

The force said it had not received a direct complaint, but asked the woman to make contact so officers can carry out further investigations.

Speaking at a conference fringe event on Saturday, Mr Yusuf – who is Reform’s home affairs spokesperson – condemned the actions of some party members.

‘On the question of whether I condemn people punching people, yes, I condemn people punching people,’ he said.

Nadine Dorries, the former Tory minister who defected to Reform last year, told an event that people who disrupt the conference are ‘not really going to get gentle treatment’.

‘Somebody said to me it was shocking to see these protesters yesterday being treated the way they were,’ she said.

‘I think what is also pretty shocking was they thought they could come into this conference and one by one try and derail Nigel Farage’s speech.’

Ms Dorries said if people attempted to disrupt the conference, ‘you are not really going to get gentle treatment’.

She added: ‘Of course, no one should be violent, no one should throw punches but… no one should come into this conference and try and disrupt it.’

Opening the second day of the conference on Saturday, party chairman Lee Anderson said protesters who disrupted Mr Farage’s speech  need to ‘get a job, get a life and get a shower’.

‘What about the few nuisances we had in the hall yesterday? The protesters? And I did see an old chap, a pensioner somewhere with a walking stick,’ he told party members.

‘Look, I don’t condone any sort of that behaviour, but if anybody wants to have a quick whip round later, we are collecting for a new walking stick. He’s in here somewhere.

‘Imagine paying 55 quid to get in here and then getting thrown out. They’d have been better off spending that money on the bus fare to the local job centre. I don’t think any of them have got a job.’

He added: ‘I’ve got a three-point plan, as you know, which is to get a job, get a life, and get a shower. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable request.’

Activist group Climate Resistance claimed responsibility for the protest during Mr Farage’s conference speech on Friday.

In a comment they said they were ‘horrified at the violence’ from Reform conference attendees.

The group also said the protester is considering whether to come forward to police.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: ‘We’re aware of a video circulating from the Reform UK conference showing an incident with a protester.

‘We haven’t received a complaint but would ask the woman involved to come forward and contact us so we can carry out enquiries.

‘Anyone with any information should contact us on 101 quoting log number 924 of September 5, 2026.’

The end of the first main day of the Reform conference saw a series of demonstrations disrupting speeches.

Mr Farage’s address was interrupted shortly after his deputy, Richard Tice, had a banner displayed by Greenpeace during his own speech, which referenced the scandal around a donation to the Reform leader.

The banner, which depicted Mr Farage in a top hat and carrying a bag of money, read: ‘Collect £5million, burn the planet’.

It is believed it had been scheduled to appear during Mr Farage’s speech, but an hour’s delay to the start of the day meant it emerged during Mr Tice’s address.

During Mr Farage’s speech, two women stood up and held a banner reading ‘Reform works for billionaires’.

They were booed by the audience who shouted ‘out’, some of whom were also removed during three other disruptions.

Mr Farage laughed during the disruption and said: ‘We’ve got a screamer. Oh dear.’

Addressing the conference hall, the Reform leader said, ‘that poor young girl, she looked like she was going to do herself an injury’, before adding, ‘boring, boring, boring’.

A Climate Resistance spokesperson said: ‘We were horrified at the violence by Reform Party members against our peaceful protestors.

‘Farage should take responsibility for controlling his supporters rather than firing up an angry crowd. He’s been mired in scandal over donations and billionaire influence.

‘It’s important protesters can hold him to account without fear for their safety.’

Revealed: Antique Nazi handgun found by British tourist that could solve 14-year-old murder mystery of three Brits and passing cyclist who were gunned down in French countryside

Published

Exclusive pictures reveal an antique pistol that was discovered in an Alpine lake by a British holidaymaker that could solve a 14-year-old quadruple murder

Dramatic pictures of an antique pistol discovered in an Alpine lake by a British holidaymaker that could solve a 14-year-old quadruple murder can be exclusively revealed by The Mail on Sunday today.

Heavily corroded and partially covered in sand, the Luger handgun, which was retrieved from the bottom of Lake Annecy in France, could be a major breakthrough in the investigation into one of Europe’s most baffling – and violent – murders.

It was found by father-of-two Kyle, 41, from Wiltshire who was snorkelling with a friend more than 50 yards from the lake’s shoreline during a three-week family camping holiday last month when he spotted the pistol’s handle sticking out of the sand.

Forensic scientists are this weekend trying to confirm whether it is the murder weapon that was used to kill three members of a British-Iraqi family and a passing French cyclist on a remote mountain road near the lake in September 2012.

The bodies of Saad al-Hilli, 50, his wife Iqbal, 47, her mother Suhaila al-Allaf, 74, and Sylvain Mollier, 45, were found near a bullet-ridden BMW parked in a forested lay-by near the village of Chevaline.

The al-Hilli’s two daughters survived the horrific attack. Zeena, then aged four, hid in the footwell of the car beside her dead mother and grandmother while sister Zainab, then seven, was shot and beaten but lived.

Speaking exclusively to the MoS, Kyle, who we have agreed not to identify, last night described his ‘shock’ at realising that his chance find could have been used in the brutal killings.

Kyle, who works in the construction industry, discovered the weapon in around 5ft 2inches of water close to the campsite where the al-Hilli family, from Claygate, Surrey, stayed before they were shot.

‘It was a horrific crime and if I have been able to contribute in any way to finding who was responsible, then that would be fantastic,’ he said. ‘I hope now that this is the right weapon and that the French police can now make some progress.’

Kyle and his wife and two sons, aged ten and five, have enjoyed holidays in their motorhome at Le Solitaire du Lac campsite in St Jorioz for the last four years. Their idyllic breaks – on the same campsite where the al-Hilli’s stayed – have been spent paddleboarding on Lake Annecy’s crystalline waters and taking picnics on beaches.

On August 20, a fellow British holidaymaker, a semi-retired teacher in his 60s, offered to take Kyle’s two sons out on the lake in a small dinghy with an outboard motor. Kyle accompanied them on his paddleboard.

At around 4pm he and the other man began snorkelling, joking that they might even find an expensive watch or jewellery accidentally dropped overboard by the wealthy French holidaymakers who sunbathe on boats that often anchor in that part of the lake.

‘I jumped in and joked to the other guy “well let’s start looking for that gold Rolex, then”.

‘The water was at about the level of my chin. I had a snorkel, mask and flippers and had been swimming around for around ten minutes when I saw a flash of gold on the bottom. I dived down but it was just a plastic clasp from a bikini.

‘I then swam for about another 15 metres when I saw what looked like a pistol grip covered in sand. I was always interested in firearms and learnt about weapons but straight away I presumed that it was just a water pistol.

‘So I dived down again, grabbed the grip and as soon as I started lifting it I could tell it was a metal object – it was extremely heavy. As I lifted it up the sand started falling off it and I could clearly see what it was and I thought: “that’s a bloody Luger”.

‘My kids were still on the boat and asked ‘what have you found Dad’ and I said ‘I’ve found a bloody gun, lads’.

‘But then I was terrified because I thought ‘do I want to put it on a boat with my children?’ But we had to get it back, so I put it in a metal bucket that was in the bottom of the boat and we took the boat back to shore.’

Kyle believes the weapon was too far from the shoreline, much of which was composed of reed beds, for it to have been thrown, raising the prospect that it could have been dumped from a boat.

If so, the location of the drop, in an area of relatively shallow water, could not have been worse. Kyle says that only 30ft from where the gun was found, the lake significantly deepens. It is almost 270ft deep at its deepest point.

It may also have remained undiscovered were it not for this year’s scorching weather. The water level in Lake Annecy is believed to be around 12in lower than this time last year, which meant it would have been out of Kyle’s depth.

Kyle took the weapon back to the campsite and began messaging friends in the UK about his extraordinary discovery. Having been backpacking abroad in 2012, he was completely unaware of the Chevaline massacre and initially hoped to keep the rare gun as a souvenir.

But when one of his friends alerted him to the killings – and how French police believe that the murder weapon was a Luger – he finally understood the potentially huge significance of his find.

‘It flipped my opinion of wanting to keep the gun. It became really important that it gets handed to the right team. I wanted to find the best way to get it to the right place.’

After wrapping the gun in a Lidl advertising magazine and placing it on the floor of a tent next to his motorhome, Kyle spent a sleepless night poring over press reports of the murders and consulting ChatGPT about the exact model of the gun he had discovered.

Indeed, his conversations with the AI chatbot became so detailed that it advised him to stop handling the weapon and directed him to the cold case unit that has overseen the investigation in recent years.

‘The more I read and the more I learned the more I thought “blimey, this gun has got to go somewhere.”‘

The next day he and the other British holidaymaker cycled into St Jorioz to alert police, only to find the Gendarmerie station closed for lunch. They eventually flagged down a police car with two officers who – to Kyle’s astonishment – claimed there was nothing they could do.

‘I said: “Okay, to be clear, there’s like potentially a live firearm sat in a tent on a really busy campsite. I’ve got two children under 10. Are you sure there’s nothing you can do?”‘

The officers eventually agreed to inform their bosses and later that afternoon a team of officers arrived at the campsite.

‘It seemed to ramp up a bit then. They came back with evidence bags, forensic gear like gloves and masks and they proceeded to remove the gun from the tent. When they sealed the evidence bag they got me to sign that.’

Both men were later interviewed and gave DNA swabs to ensure that any traces they left on the weapon could be ruled out.

French prosecutors have previously said that the killer used an antique 7.65mm Luger P06 revolver, issued to the Swiss army and police in the 1920s and 1930s. The killer fired 21 bullets, of which 18 hit their targets. Fragments of the gun were found at the murder scene.

Marie-Céline Lawrysz, the deputy prosecutor in the Lake Annecy investigation, has said the weapon found in Lake Annecy ‘appears to be a P06’, while a firearms expert shown pictures of the gun by the MoS this weekend confirmed it ‘looks like a Luger P06.’

‘Such pistols were used by the Swiss Army and others from the early part of the century until at least the late 1940’s,’ he said.

However, a second ballistics expert, who worked for the Metropolitan Police for more than 20 years, told this newspaper that the newly discovered gun appeared to be a larger calibre 9mm Luger P08.

He highlighted that the similar P06 model has a small built-in safety lever, known as a grip safety, on the back of the handle which cannot be seen in the pictures of the gun discovered by Kyle.

‘In my opinion, it is not consistent with being a Swiss-issue Luger P06/29,’ he said.

Meanwhile, a source close to the investigation has warned that the analysis of the weapon found by Kyle is ‘extremely complex’ due to the time it has spent in the water.

Police probing the massacre do not know whether the al-Hillis or Mr Mollier, who worked in the nuclear industry, was the target. In 2013, Eric Maillaud, then prosecutor on the case, concluded: ‘We are dealing with a very experienced gunman.’

The discovery of the gun so close to the Solitaire du Lac campsite, which has around 200 pitches, raises the prospect that the al-Hillis were killed by someone with knowledge of where they were staying.

Police are said to be interested in a Danish tourist who was camping at Solitaire du Lac around the time of the murders. In 2011 the same tourist was said to also have been camping a few kilometres away from the scene of the killing of Xavier Baligant, a 29-year-old Belgian holidaymaker, at a motorway rest area in eastern France.

Baligant was shot dead with a rifle issued to the Swiss army in the middle of the 20th century in an attack with no known motive. No further details about the Dane have been made public.

Meanwhile, Kyle, who returned home with his family on August 29, has mixed feelings about his discovery.

An enthusiastic – but unsuccessful – detectorist, he has uncovered nothing more exciting than a 100-year-old coin while tramping around fields in Wiltshire with a metal detector over the last five years. He therefore remains stunned to have stumbled on such an astonishing find by chance.

‘I don’t mind walking around a field with no one else there for hours. I normally just come back with pockets of beer bottle caps.’

But he also hopes it could lead to the eventual solving of the case – and some form of closure for the al-Hilli’s surviving daughters, Zeena and Zainab.

‘Hopefully it helps close a horrific chapter of their lives,’ he added.

‘My kids already think I am a hero for finding this gun and handing it in and it being potentially linked to the investigation. So if it does become important for the investigation, then that would be fantastic.’

Daily Mirror

The aircraft, which was three-quarters into its journey, was forced to be diverted and the “diruptive” passenger was arrested by police

A man had to be restrained and duct-taped to his seat after an American Airlines flight descended into chaos.

The passenger, who was travelling from Dallas, Texas, to Newark, New Jersey, allegedly appeared to be intoxicated when he began shouting at the man sitting beside him.

According to reports, the man then lashed out physically – allegedly striking a passenger and smashing his laptop before using both racial and homophobic slurs.

Juan Mejia, a retired police officer who was on the flight, said: “Just like a light switch, all of a sudden, it went from quiet to yelling and chaos.

“I turned around to look, and the poor gentleman that was sitting next to him in the aisle seat, the individual had his hands around his neck and was, like, assaulting him.”

Mejia and another passenger said they restrained the man.

A flight attendant handed them duct tape, which they allegedly used to secure his wrists, head and body to the seat.

The aircraft was diverted to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, where it landed around 15 minutes later.

The passenger was arrested by local police while federal charges could also be considered by the FBI, according to TMZ.

American Airlines confirmed the flight was diverted because of a “disruptive customer”.

The passenger was removed from the aircraft, which then continued to Newark.

An American Airlines spokesperson said: “The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we do not tolerate violence.

“We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding.”

What now for Richarlison? Tottenham striker's transfer options revealed as Trabzonspor move falls through

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Saudi Arabia now looks to be a likely destination. A steady stream of past-their-prime Premier League talents have headed to the Middle East in past campaigns, and Richarlison’s endeavours will be helped by the fact the Saudi Pro League’s transfer window does not close until October 12.
