Why do some families build massive wealth, but lose it within just a few generations?

The biggest question is: why does the person who creates the wealth often have a completely different mindset from the generations that come after?

In this video, we explain a popular idea often described as the “three-generation wealth rule.”

The first generation is often seen as the wealth creator. They start with limited resources, take risks, work hard, build businesses, and create assets.

The second generation grows up watching the struggle behind that success. They understand the value of money and are often responsible for managing, protecting, and growing the wealth created by the first generation.

But by the third generation, the family may be far removed from the original struggle. If financial discipline, business knowledge, responsibility, and strong wealth management are not passed down, the wealth can gradually decline or disappear.

This does not mean wealth always disappears after exactly three generations. Many Indian and global business families have successfully preserved wealth for much longer. The better way to understand this concept is that creating wealth is only the first step—teaching future generations how to manage money, invest, build businesses, and handle responsibility is equally important.
