His reason, quoting Laura Shin: “Ethereum isn’t focused on putting points on the scoreboard… parts of Ethereum leadership is adverse to growth… and it’s prohibitive for growth to happen.”
And he’s not alone. The Ethereum Foundation has lost at least 8 senior contributors in 2026 — five in May alone. Tomasz Stańczak (co-Executive Director). Barnabé Monnot. Tim Beiko. Alex Stokes (sabbatical). Stark. Van Epps. Dankrad Feist. Synthetix founder Kain Warwick alleges Vitalik Buterin’s direct interventions caused the exodus — with Solana reportedly offering up to $2M annual packages to lure EF talent away.
Author and longtime ETH investor William Mougayar didn’t sugarcoat it on The Defiant: “If everybody is up in arms because six or seven people left, there’s going to be MORE leaving, and it was by design. Expect LESS from the EF.”
