If rumours are to be believed, we’re not far off hearing which actor has been picked to replace Daniel Craig at the helm of the James Bond franchise.

Jack Lowden is currently best known for his Emmy-nominated work in the Apple TV+ spy drama Slow Horses, but he’s also starred in everything from The Gold and Wolf Hall to Christopher Nolan’s war epic Dunkirk.

In fact, rumours about Jack taking over as 007 date back to the very first season of Slow Horses in 2022.

During a joint interview with Gary Oldman, his Slow Horses co-star teased him about the speculation, to which Jack told AP that while it was “lovely” to be even be thought of as a potential fit for James Bond, he wasn’t sure how valid the claims actually were.

“I think everybody who runs around with a serious face – and runs well – [is named in the press as a rumoured James Bond],” he insisted.

Since then, Jack has kept schtum about the rumours, but one person who’s been a bit more vocal is his wife, fellow actor Saoirse Ronan.

The Oscar nominee has previously been vocal about her hopes to be cast as a new Bond villain, telling Empire: “I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain.

“Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there’s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that.”

However, when asked on the podcast Happy Sad Confused if she’d rather see Jack as Bond or herself as a new villain in the franchise, she admitted: “He should be Bond. If it’s a choice between the two.”

“Isn’t it nice that I’ve done that?” she quipped.

Meanwhile, during a recent interview on Canadian TV, Gary Oldman also gave his co-star his personal seal of approval in the 007 race, before claiming that bosses had already made their decision, and it would be announced imminently.
