How to watch Open on Sunday
The man to beat on Sunday at Royal Birkdale is American Ryder Cup member Sam Burns.
The five-time PGA Tour winner followed up a Friday 62 with a 65 on Saturday, moving him to 10 under for the tournament. That gives him a two-shot lead in this Open Championship with 18 holes standing between him and his first major championship title.
But while Burns has the clearest path to the Claret Jug, he’ll have plenty of tough competition in the final round. Four-time Tour winner Si Woo Kim and Ryan Fox, who shot 62 on Saturday, are tied for second at eight under.
Bryson DeChambeau shot a 69 following the controversial end to his second round, where he was hit with a two-shot penalty he vehemently disagreed with. He’ll start Sunday at six under, four shots off Burns’ lead.
Hometown hero Tommy Fleetwood (five under) and defending champion Scottie Scheffler (four under) are also still in the mix with one round to go.

Josh Kerr has set his sights on the long-standing 1,500m world record after demolishing the mile world record at this Saturday’s London Diamond League.
The Scot ran a staggering 3:42.66 to beat Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj’s record of 3:43.13, which had stood since 1999, in front of a delighted crowd at the London Stadium.
He had announced his intention to break the record in March, capitalising on a rare year without a major championships to target a personal goal.
He won the race from Yared Nuguse and Jake Heyward, with Nuguse second in a distant 3:45.69.
Now Kerr, the 2023 world champion over 1,500m, has announced his intention to target the world record at that distance too – which is also held by El Guerrouj and has stood since 1998.
In a column in The Telegraph, Kerr wrote that after his triumph on Saturday, “I was soon in a spot of trouble with my wife, Larimar, when she woke up and I said ‘It’s on’ in reference to Hicham El Guerrouj’s world 1,500m record of 3min 26.00sec.”
Two-time Olympic medallist Kerr is seventh on the all-time list of athletes over 1,500m.
In promising news for his tilt at the record his 1,500m split in Saturday’s mile was a new British record, shaving three-hundredths of a second off his own previous mark of 3:27.79 to complete the split in 3:27.51.
Kerr continued: “She said: ‘Can you just give us 12 hours before you set another goal?’ I was like: ‘I could, but the iron’s hot.’ And I do think that the moment you stop dreaming about new goals is the time when you are slowing down. This sport moves quickly; the world is always turning.”
He suggested he would most likely target one of the remaining Diamond League races, and added: “We have not made any decisions yet – and things would have to be put in place with the right 1500m race – but I do think that it is in the legs.”
The 28-year-old will first target the Commonwealth Games, held on home soil in Glasgow this week, before considering whether a tilt at the 1,500m record is feasible.
Mankind Pharma has announced a partnership with Minerva Academy Football Club to support youth football development in India. As part of the association, the pharmaceutical company’s branding will appear on the front and back of jerseys worn by three of the academy’s age-group teams during domestic and international competitions.
The partnership comes after Minerva Academy’s successful run at the Gothia Cup 2026, where its U-12 team, representing India, won the Gothia Cup B-12 title before also lifting the Helsinki Cup. The collaboration is aimed at supporting the academy’s grassroots football programme and providing greater exposure to young players competing on the international stage.
Mankind Pharma to sponsor academy teams
Under the partnership, the Mankind Pharma logo will feature on the jerseys of three Minerva Academy age-group teams throughout the year. The teams compete in tournaments in India as well as overseas, giving the company’s branding visibility at international youth football events.
Founded in 2015 by Ranjit Bajaj, Minerva Academy has established itself as one of India’s leading grassroots football institutions. The academy won the Gothia Cup world youth title in 2025 and has produced more than 240 internationals across various age groups. In 2026, its U-12 side added two more international titles by winning the Gothia Cup B-12 in Sweden and the Helsinki Cup in Finland.
The academy’s long-term football development programme is centred on its “World Cup Batch 2034” initiative, which aims to prepare players capable of helping India qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
Focus on grassroots football
Mankind Pharma said the partnership reflects its efforts to support sports beyond cricket by encouraging the growth of football in the country. The company said it intends to create opportunities for young footballers and contribute to the development of the sport through grassroots initiatives.
Vice Chairman and Managing Director Rajeev Juneja said the company believes football helps build discipline, teamwork and ambition among young people. He added that Minerva Academy’s performances at international tournaments demonstrate the potential of Indian footballers, and the partnership is intended to support the academy’s efforts to compete on the global stage.
Academy eyes long-term development
Minerva Academy Founder and Director Ranjit Bajaj said the partnership comes at an important stage in the academy’s football programme. He said the support from Mankind Pharma would help players train, travel and compete against strong international opposition while strengthening the academy’s long-term development plans.
He added that the academy remains focused on its objective of producing players capable of representing India at the FIFA World Cup through its grassroots development pathway.
The partnership adds another corporate association to Indian grassroots football as Minerva Academy continues to expand its youth programme following its recent success in international tournaments.

Trailing 7-0 entering the sixth inning Sunday against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, the Diamondbacks rallied with eight unanswered runs over the next five innings, culminating in Max Kepler’s walk-off RBI double in the 10th to take an 8-7 victory.
“Obviously, we needed it as a team,” said third baseman Nolan Arenado, who tied the game with a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
“Just a well-fought game for us, just to come back like that was incredible. Arguably, our best win of the year, but just to see us — the way we fought and didn’t give in, we could have easily done that. We didn’t, so that was great.”
The win, which matched the largest come-from-behind victory in franchise history, was key for Arizona in the race for a playoff spot. It pulled the team within a half a game of St. Louis, the Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates for the final wild-card spot in the National League.
It also clinched the season series against the Cardinals with just one game remaining between the two clubs, as Arizona has taken four of six. That would give the Diamondbacks the first tiebreaker edge should the two teams finish the season with identical records.
“What looks so good to me is the guys are very focused on their task despite it being a very rugged terrain for them to climb through. And they managed it,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said.
Designated hitter Adrian Del Castillo, recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday, went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs in Sunday’s win. “Del is a good hitter,” Lovullo said. “When his timing’s right, when the flow to the swing is on time, he can impact the baseball, he can impact a baseball game.”
Mitch Bratt (0-0, 6.00 ERA) will take the mound for the hosts in search of his first career win in his third appearance. The 23-year-old rookie allowed three runs on three hits over three innings a no-decision in his last outing, a 5-3 Arizona road win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 12.
The Athletics will counter with fellow left-hander Jeffrey Springs (3-9, 6.08), who is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA in three career appearances (one start) against the Diamondbacks.
The lefty surrendered six runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in the Athletics’ 6-1 loss to the host Detroit Tigers on July 8. Springs hasn’t won since earning his third straight victory on April 14. Since then, he is 0-9 over his past 15 appearances. The Athletics will be hoping for a strong outing from Springs as they try to break out of a stretch of 19 losses in their past 23 games. They snapped a 10-game skid with a 15-1 win against the Washington Nationals on Saturday before falling 5-2 in the finale of the three-game set on Sunday.
They went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine in their most recent loss.
“We just couldn’t get the big hit to get back in that game,” Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said. “The guys took good at-bats. … We couldn’t put them together enough and capitalize with some guys in scoring position with two outs.”

SEC football media days will return to Nashville.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey announced that Nashville will host the league’s annual preseason event on July 12-15, 2027.
He revealed the decision in his opening remarks of this year’s media days in Tampa, Florida on July 20, kicking off the four-day event will last through July 23 at the Tampa Marriott Water Street and JW Marriott. Coaches and players representing each team will appear on SEC Network throughout.

The event was held in Nashville once before in 2023. Before it traveled to Atlanta in 2018, the event had never before been held outside of the Birmingham, Alabama, metro area. Since then, it has been held in Atlanta twice more (2022 and 2025), Nashville, Dallas (2024) and now Tampa.

Special Olympics Bharat’s football contingent was felicitated by SKF India at a ceremony in New Delhi on Monday after the boys’ team won the bronze medal at the Gothia Cup 2026 in Sweden.
The event, held at The Lalit, was attended by athletes, coaches, officials and partners to recognise the team’s performance at one of the world’s largest youth football tournaments. The bronze medal marked another international achievement for Special Olympics Bharat and highlighted the team’s campaign in the competition.
The ceremony also acknowledged the contribution of coaches, support staff and partner organisations involved in the team’s preparation and participation.
Bronze-medal finish at Gothia Cup
The Special Olympics Bharat boys’ football team finished third at the Gothia Cup 2026, securing the bronze medal during the tournament in Sweden.
The Gothia Cup is among the world’s largest international youth football competitions and attracts teams from several countries every year. The medal added another international achievement for Special Olympics Bharat in football.
SKF India reiterates support for inclusive sports
SKF India organised the event as part of its partnership with Special Olympics Bharat. Managing Director Shailesh Sharma said the bronze-medal performance reflected the players’ discipline, teamwork and perseverance. He said the company believes sport can promote inclusion and create opportunities for athletes, adding that SKF India would continue supporting initiatives that help athletes compete at international events.
The company said its corporate social responsibility initiatives focus on promoting inclusion and equal opportunity through sport and supporting specially abled athletes.
Special Olympics Bharat highlights consistent performances
Special Olympics Bharat President Dr Mallika Nanda said the bronze medal reflected the determination and resilience of the athletes. She noted that it was the organisation’s third consecutive international trophy at the Gothia Cup and thanked SKF India and the Ambassador of Sweden to India for their continued support.
Men’s football team coach Onaciss said the medal was the result of months of preparation, discipline and teamwork. He added that the support received from Special Olympics Bharat and SKF India had enabled the players to compete with confidence on the international stage.
SKF India said it will continue working with Special Olympics Bharat to support an inclusive sporting environment and provide athletes with opportunities to participate in international competitions. The partnership is aimed at encouraging participation in sport while helping athletes develop their skills and represent India at global events.
TORONTO — After an underwhelming start to the second half, the Toronto Blue Jays find themselves on the fringes of the American League playoff race, 4.5 games out of the final wild-card spot.
According to FanGraphs, their odds of reaching the playoffs are 14 per cent, so there’s still a chance they’re traditional buyers ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline. A well-timed win streak may be required, but it’s still possible. With that in mind, the Blue Jays are sure to monitor the markets for starting pitching, relievers and right-handed hitting outfielders just in case.
But buying is far from the only option on the table at this point. They could sell, something Ross Atkins has done on four previous occasions since becoming GM after the 2015 season. It’s an option we’ll be sure to explore here in the coming days if the losses keep piling up, but for now let’s explore the murky middle and look more closely at the types of trades the Blue Jays might make if their playoff positioning remains somewhat similar when it’s decision time in early August.
Looking beyond the traditional buyer-seller extremes, here are four possible approaches:
Just because there’s a trade deadline doesn’t mean you have to make trades. The Blue Jays could hold, trusting their players to rebound without dipping into their farm system for help.
Past Blue Jays examples: None.
Advantages: The core stays together for one last run.
Disadvantages: Other contenders will add and get better, so standing pat means taking a step back relative to the competition. Plus, there’s a considerable opportunity cost to holding onto pending free agents you might otherwise have traded.
Verdict: Regardless of their record, the Blue Jays have made at least three trades in each of their 10 years under Atkins. It would be a surprising departure to make zero trades. Tactically, this is too timid. It’s a bad idea.
Buy controllable starting pitching
If there’s one thing teams always need it’s controllable starting pitching. That’s especially true for a roster with four pending free agents in Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Patrick Corbin and Max Scherzer.
Past Blue Jays examples: Acquiring Francisco Liriano in 2016; acquiring Ross Stripling in 2020; acquiring Mitch White in 2022.
Advantages: Acquiring young pitching would not only help future teams and it might even give the 2026 team the jolt it needs, too. A buyer intent on winning in 2026 would likely prioritize proven pitchers, but if the Blue Jays are willing to broaden their search to those with higher risk profiles, the reward could be greater, too.
Disadvantages: The cost of controllable starting pitching is always high, so the Blue Jays would have to give up big-league players, prospects or both.
Verdict: Acquiring optionable pitchers who can throw strikes and miss bats is always a good thing, regardless of time of year. As always, it comes down to price, but if the Blue Jays can bolster their rotation for the present and future that’d be worthwhile.
This time of year leads to lots of conversation, and sometimes those talks allow teams to make need-for-need deals that balance out rosters. In a year where many teams have a shot at the playoffs, this genre of trade may be popular. For instance, the Mariners could trade from their starting pitching surplus for a right-handed bat or the Padres might part with some elite relief pitching to help their rotation.
Past Blue Jays examples: Acquiring Joaquin Benoit for Drew Storen in 2016; acquiring Trevor Richards and Bowden Francis for Rowdy Tellez in 2021; acquiring Brandon Valenzuela for Will Wagner in 2025.
Advantages: By dealing from an area of surplus, teams can bolster weaknesses. Case in point: do the Blue Jays really need Varsho, Yohendrick Pinango, Jesus Sanchez, Nathan Lukes and Sean Keys? Or is there a way to trade one of those left-handed hitters to address another area of need, like pitching?
Disadvantages: Sometimes teams overlook talent in their haste to sort out a so-called surplus. The Astros surely wish they’d never traded Teoscar Hernandez to the Blue Jays. And while there wasn’t a clear role for him in Toronto at the time, that’s how future all-star Otto Lopez ended up in Miami.
Verdict: Need-for-need trades can benefit all involved. There’s risk, but that can be mitigated by knowing your own personnel well. The Blue Jays would benefit from exploring these possibilities.
Take on bad money to get something valuable
As one of the biggest spenders in MLB, the Blue Jays can consider taking on ‘bad’ contracts as a means of getting other players they really covet.
Past Blue Jays examples: Acquiring Nori Aoki with Teoscar Hernandez for Francisco Liriano in 2017.
Advantages: Being willing to take on bad money can open up doors to better players. In 2017, the Blue Jays took on Aoki, who’d be released within a month, to acquire Hernandez, who hit 129 home runs with the Blue Jays.
Disadvantages: Teams that spend $284 million or more in 2026 will have their highest selection in the 2027 amateur draft moved back 10 places unless they pick in the top six. As of now, that applies to the Blue Jays, who have an estimated CBT payroll of $319 million, according to FanGraphs. Beyond money, teams only have so many roster spots. That means there’s an additional cost to taking on players who don’t really fit.
Verdict: For the right addition this can work well. But with uncertainty looming over what spending restrictions will exist in the next collective bargaining agreement, it’s prudent to tread lightly here.

Spain’s exciting FIFA World Cup victory over Argentina in extra time was marred by a post-match brawl that included Leandro Paredes and Eric García.
The aggressive tackling and chippyness from the Argentinian side led to a confrontation between the two squads. Paredes was seen coming over to a post-match fracas between players from the two nations and putting his hand on the throat of García.

Paredes was issued a red card after the whistle and was sent off. He was also given a yellow card during the match for a hard tackle shortly after coming into the match.
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni was held back by a Spain player while he shouted at someone. Nicolas Otamendi exchanged words with several Spanish players, including Rodri.
“We are gracious in victory, and we must be so in defeat,” Scaloni said, via ESPN. “We accept the loss; we gave everything. We were stretched thin coming into this, but giving it your all, like they did today, sets a great example for our people and our country.

“There was one man on the pitch who did have class and that was Lionel Messi, who shook hands with every one of those Spanish players,” he said, via Goal.com. “The game’s done. They could have absolutely no complaints about what happened today. Disgusting behavior.”

St. Louis, in a three-way tie for the final wild-card spot in the National League, squandered a 7-0 lead while dropping the decisive contest of their three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-7, in 10 innings on Sunday in Phoenix.
The seven-run comeback matched the largest in team history for the Diamondbacks, who are just a half-game back of the Cardinals, Miami and Pittsburgh in the race for the final wild card.
Max Kepler lined a double over the head of right fielder Lars Nootbaar with one out in the 10th inning to drive in automatic runner Jorge Barrosa to win it for Arizona, which trailed 7-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
It marked the first time since July 2010 that St. Louis blew a lead of seven or more runs in a loss. Rubbing more salt in the wound was the fact ex-Cardinal Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to forge a 7-7 tie.
“We don’t deserve to win that game in any way, to be quite honest with you,” St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol said. “We did a nice job early getting ahead, but the way that one unfolded … I tell you what, there’s a lot of learning opportunities in that one. It stings. It (stinks), and no one is more mad than me. At the end of the day, we gave that one away.”
Marmol said it was important for his team to move on from the bitter loss and focus on its three-game series against a Los Angeles team that owns the worst record in baseball at 39-61.
“We already talked about it,” Marmol said. “Dwell on (the loss) for the time being, take what you need out of it. Before you guys were let in here, they were already talking about some of the things that we felt that we gave away. Their ability to (rebound) quickly and move on to the next day is, at this point, part of our identity.”
Kyle Leahy (7-4, 3.73 ERA) gets the start in the potential bounce-back game for St. Louis. He will be opposed by fellow right-hander Jose Soriano (8-6, 3.49).
Leahy is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three career relief appearances against the Angels. He hasn’t allowed a hit over 5 1/3 innings.
He threw three shutout innings and allowed one hit in a 2-1 home win over Atlanta in his last start on July 10. He departed after throwing just three pitches in the fourth inning because of a two-hour, 44-minute rain delay.
Soriano has started against the Cardinals once in his career. That came in 2024 when he allowed two hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings and struck out six in a game that St. Louis used an eight-run seventh to rally for a 10-5 victory at Angel Stadium. Even more coincidental is the fact Leahy picked up the win with 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Soriano, the American League Pitcher of the Month in April, is 0-2 in his last five starts following an 8-0 home victory over Tampa Bay on June 13.
The Angels held on for a 3-2 victory over the visiting Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon to snap a four-game losing streak. It was just the third win in the last 15 games for Kurt Suzuki’s squad.
Right-hander Ryan Johnson allowed a leadoff homer to fellow rookie Kevin McGonigle on the third pitch of the game but rebounded to allow no more runs and just one more hit over five innings to pick up his third career victory.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever given up a leadoff home run, so that’s a new experience,” said Johnson, 23. “But I was able to stay focused, stay with the game plan and attack.”

For a little while, there’s been speculation aplenty about adding a sturdier EDGE3 in Minnesota. All of the online ink on that Vikings rumor hasn’t led to a deal getting done.
Consider, for instance, the opinion offered by Jeff Diamond. Writing for Vikings Territory, the team’s former GM insisted that Minnesota is an edge rusher short: “Unless Golday quickly emerges as a solid edge rusher (as indicated on draft day) in addition to his ability to play inside ‘backer, we’ll have to continue to harp on the ill-advised decision to trade Jonathan Greenard, an elite edge rusher when healthy unless a vet free agent of renown is brought aboard.”
More thoughts from Mr. Diamond: “they have to be concerned about who will be in the rotation to give Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner a break since rushing the passer is one of the most physically demanding jobs in football. And I’ve always believed pass rushers are the second most important position in the NFL after quarterback (I go back to something Bud Grant often said—’give me a great quarterback and a fourth-quarter pass rush’).”
Diamond’s perspective is shared by many. Do the Vikings agree?

Somewhat ironically, the Vikings’ third and fourth edge rushers may not be edge rushers at all. Filling those openings may come down to pushing a linebacker forward and by kicking a defensive lineman outward.
Eric Wilson, in particular, looks like a decent option. He’s coming off a breakout season. Mr. Wilson thrived under the tutelage of DC Brian Flores (both player and coach appear to enjoy working together). The former undrafted talent tossed 6.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and 17 tackles for loss onto the stat sheet. Better yet, Wilson boasted an eye-popping 4 forced fumbles.
Much of the damage got done within his job as an edge rusher, where he had 336 snaps (PFF).
Next up would appear to be Ty Ingram-Dawkins, the sophomore defensive lineman.
Much of what’s appealing about Ingram-Dawkins is that he’s capable of doing a bit of everything. He’s long, he’s fast, and he’s strong. Maybe he’s not totally elite at a single thing, but the well-roundedness of his game makes him an intriguing piece of the puzzle for Coach Flores.
The danger here rests in mirroring the careers of James Lynch, Jalyn Holmes, Esezi Otomewo, and others of recent Vikings history. Essentially, capable of being moved around but never settling into a clear job.
Dangers aside, Ingram-Dawkins appears ready to earn more snaps as an edge rusher. He looks visibly leaner, hinting at being asked to kick outside a touch more as a sophomore. Ideally, his long arms and explosiveness will lead to playing sturdy snaps at edge rusher. Quite possibly, that’s as a run stuffer due to being larger than most along the edge, but that’s speculative.
But then there’s the issue that still stands behind the Vikings rumor: is that going to be enough? Do the Vikings get enough from this cluster of talent?
Sitting on north of $13 million in space — with options to add plenty more — the Vikings could opt to pickup an assassin-for-hire to reinforce the pass rusher’s department. On Bleacher Report, there’s a listing of the best remaining free agents. Jadeveon Clowney, Von Miller, and Kyle Van Noy are among the players. Clowney, in particular, looks like a nice fit since he’s a 3-4 edge rusher coming off a productive year.
At training camp, the Vikings are going to get a much better understanding of where the roster is strong and less than strong. Accordingly, GM Nolan Teasley will be able to make decisions about a needed add to shore up a weakness (if that issue arises).
Minnesota wants to live in a world where everybody remains healthy as several options beyond Andrew Van Ginkel & Dallas Turner appear prepared to shine. However, the inverse could occur. Maybe an injury happens (hopefully not). Or maybe one of the planned options to fill the EDGE3 or EDGE4 snaps underperforms. Teasley could then be a touch more open to offering a decent deal to a free agent.
Training camp and the preseason offer clarity. As a result, the Vikings will soon be able to glean valuable insight to fully address a longstanding rumor about needing to add an edge rusher.

The Boston Red Sox were left for dead this season. Now, they’ve won 18 of 20 and are currently riding their longest winning streak since the lineup included Dom DiMaggio, Johnny Pesky, Bobby Doerr and some lefty named Ted Williams. They are just two shy of the franchise record of 15 straight wins, which was established by a different Williams-led team.
This past weekend series, the Red Sox toppled the first-place Rays in a four-game sweep. Meanwhile, the second-place Yankees lost two of three. Oh, and the Orioles swept the Astros and have won seven straight games. Things are tightening.
For much of the season, this division has looked like a two-team race. Maybe, if a third team snuck into contention, it would be the defending American League champion Blue Jays. The Orioles and Red Sox looked like they were coasting into the trade deadline as sellers.
Maybe that’s still the case, as things can change very quickly in two weeks. Look no further than what has happened here over the last several weeks.
It’s also entirely possible that all five teams could remain in contention all season here. Perhaps the AL East ends up with all three wild-card teams as the rest of the American League remains mired in mediocrity.
It’s not even that far-fetched. Right now, the Rays have the best AL record with the Yankees second. The Red Sox hold the third wild card. The Orioles are only two games out of a playoff spot. The Red Sox and Orioles would only need to squeeze past the Guardians (who are currently three games ahead of the Orioles) to give the East four of the six playoff teams on this side of the bracket.
Maybe the division race could even get juicy? The Red Sox have trimmed their deficit to just six games, with the Orioles eight back. The Rays looked like a regression candidate heading into the second half and if that coincides with the Yankees’ offensive woes continuing, things really could tighten up here.
