Radek Vitek played 45 minutes for Man Utd against Wrexham in Helsinki and then opened up on his future during this transfer window.
Radek Vitek wants to leave Manchester United during the transfer window and is ready to say a permanent goodbye to Old Trafford if the club receive an offer for him this summer.
The 22-year-old played the second half of United’s pre-season friendly defeat to Wrexham in Helsinki on Saturday, but then made it clear he has no intention of hanging around to play second fiddle to Senne Lammens next season.
Vitek has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons out on loan and after an impressive campaign with Championship outfit Bristol City last term, he wants to continue playing next season.
That isn’t going to happen at United, with Lammens now installed as the club’s No.1 goalkeeper, so Vitek has made it clear that he wants to leave during this transfer window and there has been plenty of interest in the Czech youth international.
“I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to be, hopefully, number one, so we will see. We will see what is going to happen,” Vitek said after the Wrexham game.
“At the moment, I am still here, but we will see. I hope so. I hope there will be some interest. I think you will know when things are more concrete.”
Asked if he wanted to leave on loan or was happy to consider a permanent exit from United, Vitek said: “I am ready for both, to be fair. Depends what the club wants and also depends on the options. We will see.
“There have been a few interests on the table. But we hope to get the best one and hopefully it will happen soon.”
United are tempted to cash in on the young goalkeeper after he swept the board at Bristol City’s player of the year award last season, with his chances of ever usurping Lammens considered unlikely.
With Andre Onana already returning to Trabzonspor on loan and Altay Bayindir also set to leave, there was a vacancy for a new No.2 goalkeeper at Old Trafford this summer.
But Vitek made it clear he had no interest in filling it, and United have since signed veteran Karl Darlow on a free transfer. Vitek said last season he felt it was important he continued to play regularly and he hasn’t changed his opinion.
“My mind is still the same,” he said. “I want to play. I want to play every week and that is the goal for next season. I think hopefully I will find out soon where that is going to be.
“I think I grew over the past two-and-a-half years when I went on a few loans. I grew in a person-wise, on the pitch as well.”
Vitek has been training at Carrington ahead of a move this summer and has again leaned on the experience of 40-year-old Tom Heaton and goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson to continue his development.
“I have been working here with Craig nearly six years now,” he said. “And obviously with Tom as well, quite a long time. They have been massively important. Also this pre-season, it helps me a lot. I can work with them and hopefully get myself ready as best as possible.”
