Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta jokes he will be ‘the biggest ever’ Bournemouth fan

Published

on

Mikel Arteta is ready to become “the biggest ever” Bournemouth fan with his Arsenal team on the brink of Premier League glory.

The Gunners are just one game away from winning their first title in 22 years after Kai Havertz’s first-half header secured a 1-0 victory against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Arsenal will be crowned champions on Tuesday night – and avoid the anxiety of a final-day shootout – if Bournemouth stop Manchester City from winning at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries have not lost a home game in the eight fixtures since their 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on January 3.

And when asked if he is now a Bournemouth fan for the next 24 hours, Arteta said: “The biggest ever.

“(Bournemouth manager) Andoni (Iraola), and all the players and all the supporters of Bournemouth, I think we are all fans because we know what it means if they get a result.

“I don’t think (a text to Iraola) is needed. What he’s done in that football club, the transformation, what they are playing for, I don’t think they need anything else. When you look at how Burnley played today, the spirit that they show, how difficult they made it, imagine tomorrow.”

Pressed as to whether he would watch the match with his players, Arteta replied: “I haven’t planned to do that.

“I am planning to watch it with my family. I don’t know for how long. I will be there in front of the TV, but I don’t know how much I am going to be able to watch it, and that is the reality.”

Havertz’s header from Bukayo Saka’s corner in the 36th minute proved enough for Arsenal, who face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, to beat an already-relegated Burnley side.

Arteta’s players could complete a historic double this month with a Champions League final against Paris St Germain to follow in Budapest on May 30.

Prior to leading his side on a lap of honour to mark the club’s final home game, captain Martin Odegaard said: “I am really proud. It has been an amazing season so far.

“We have one big one left and then the Champions League final and we want to take the trophies home.

“I can promise you all that we will give everything we have and keep going until the very end. With your support we are going to be ready.”

Burnley rarely looked like spoiling Arsenal’s party, but the hosts could count themselves fortunate to end the game with 11 men following Havertz’s high tackle on Lesley Ugochukwu.

Burnley interim boss Mike Jackson said: “It is a red card. It is dangerous, he is leaving the floor, and it is cynical foul to break up play.

“We are disappointed it wasn’t given because it changes the game for the last 20 minutes in our favour.

“When you look back at it and watch it frame-by-frame, and second-by-second, you must be able to see that.”

A TV camera suspended by wires fell on to the pitch during Hungary’s friendly against Kazakhstan at Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen, forcing a brief stoppage in play.

Hungarian media reported the camera began smoking midway through the first half after fire damaged the cable supporting it.

The camera then plunged from a height of more than 20 metres and landed just inside the touchline near Hungary’s warm-up area, two metres from a cameraman.

Nobody was injured and players took a drinks break in the 26th minute while the incident was dealt with.

T20 Blast round-up: Wins for Lancashire, Essex & Northamptonshire

Published

on

Lancashire’s quarter-final hopes were boosted by a seven-wicket win, their second victory in six games, at Chester-le-Street, while Durham’s fourth defeat in six means they are joined on eight points by a Red Rose team who remain bottom of the North Group.

Livingstone’s second successive Blast half-century – 85 not out off 31 balls with eight sixes – included four successive sixes off Kasey Aldridge’s seam bowling in a sensational innings.

Durham’s openers Graham Clark (49 not out) and Alex Lees (42) also impressed as the home side batted first and reached 128-2 from their 10 overs. England limited-overs quick Luke Wood returned 1-16 from two overs for Lightning, while Livingstone also struck.

After a near two-hour delay through to 20:25 BST, Lees pulled and muscled the contest’s first two balls from the spin of Tom Hartley for four and took four boundaries in all off the opening over.

When Livingstone bowled an attacking Lees, Durham had 94 in the eighth over. But Clark brilliantly scooped Tom Aspinwall for a boundary as the hosts ended well, despite the opener just falling short of 50.

In reply, skipper Keaton Jennings (1) and Ben McDermott (0) fell cheaply either side of a productive second over in which Livingstone pulled Matthew Potts for six. Michael Jones scored 27 from 15 balls before Livingstone was joined by Joe Moores (six not out) as Lancashire reached 130-3 to win with five balls remaining.

On the back of scores of 44 and 81 in his past two matches – both defeats against Yorkshire and Glamorgan – Livingstone went on to break the record for most sixes by a Lancashire batter in T20 history (163), previously held by his coach Steven Croft.

Four Brazil players and several staff shown red cards in physical 1-0 loss to USWNT

Multiple members of the Brazil national team earned red cards Tuesday during a game against the U.S. Two Brazilian players were shown red cards during the game, and two more were shown red after the final whistle. Brazil head coach Arthur Elias was also given a red card earlier in the second half and was sent off, along with several members of his staff.

After the match, the referees lined up for the usual postmatch handshakes flanked by two security officers with plastic shields.

The U.S. battled its way through the highly physical second and final meeting with Brazil during this international window to claim a 1-0 victory at the Arena Castelão in Fortaleza, wrapping up its trip to the 2027 World Cup host country. It was the team’s first win against Brazil in Brazil since 1997.

“My job is to have respect for the officials,” Emma Hayes said in a news conference after the match. “My job is to make sure I stay in my technical area. There is only one person allowed to stand. And my job is to be a role model for my players, to display the behaviors to them that I want from them.”

After a 2-1 loss to Brazil on Saturday night, the U.S.’s response was overshadowed by the final 10 minutes of the match.

Sophia Wilson nearly scored her second goal since becoming a mother in the 63rd minute of the match, battling her way from the touchline toward the penalty before firing a right-footed shot that deflected off a Brazilian defender before skidding past Kansas City Current goalkeeper Lorena. Though the goal stood, it was labeled an own goal on Brazil defender Isabela. Wilson scored the lone goal for the U.S. in their Saturday night fixture against Brazil in São Paulo.

Former WWE champion makes huge return after 1141 days

Published

on

A former WWE champion returned to his old stomping ground tonight. He is currently among the most popular acts on Friday Night SmackDown under Triple H’s creative leadership.

The name being discussed is Kit Wilson. On tonight’s episode of NXT, Wilson returned to the black-and-silver brand for the first time in 1141 days. He was the special guest judge for the inaugural Mr. NXT Pageant.

Before tonight, the former NXT Tag Team Champion’s last appearance for the Shawn Michaels-led brand came on April 25, 2023. Wilson and Elton Prince lost to The D’Angelo Family’s Channing Lorenzo and Tony D’Angelo at Spring Breakin’.

Following the abovementioned loss, Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson & Elton Prince) was moved to SmackDown as part of the 2023 Draft. The duo had a stellar run on the blue brand before Prince sustained a severe neck injury in May 2025.

In his tag team partner’s absence, Kit Wilson adopted a new gimmick, aiming to eradicate “toxic masculinity” from WWE. In recent months, the 31-year-old has become immensely popular among fans despite portraying a heel character. He has been working with The Miz to take down their common enemy, Danhausen.

Last month, The A-Lister and Wilson interrupted the legendary John Cena’s segment at WrestleMania 42. Before they could target the 17-time WWE World Champion, Danhausen showed up with Minihausens and humiliated the heels on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

At Backlash 2026, Wilson and Miz combined forces to face Danhausen and a Minihausen in a tag team match. Unfortunately for the heel duo, they lost the bout in Tampa, Florida. Despite their defeat, the former WWE Champion and the British superstar have not abandoned their mission of taking down Mr. Very Nice, Very Evil.

Danhausen is currently working on a major “science experiment” on SmackDown. Fans have various theories about the ongoing storyline involving the former AEW star. It will be interesting to see how the experiment affects Miz and Wilson.
