Bakhram Murtazaliev vs Josh Kelly live scorecard and full undercard results
Josh Kelly stars in his maiden world title challenge against destructive champion Bakhram Murtazaliev at the Newcastle Arena tonight.
The 2016 Olympian moved up to the super-welterweight ranks back in 2022 following a bruising loss to David Avanesyan, but has not yet faced world-level opposition in the division. He has, however, scored notable victories over Troy Williamson and Ishmael Davis on the big stage.
Russia’s Murtazaliev is an undeniable step up, known best to boxing fans for his three-round demolition of Tim Tsyzu last time out in October 2024. Could the long layoff, paired with Kelly’s slick style and the home advantage, spell trouble for the champion? Or will Murtazaliev’s steely composure and raw power see him remain undefeated and with the IBF belt firmly in hand?
Following the prelims, the undercard features rising heavyweight star Leo Atang in his fourth bout and likely fourth stoppage victory, Turkey’s Elif Nur Turhan looking to continue a knockout streak of her own and defend her lightweight belt, and Josh Padley challenging for the vacant European title at 130lbs.
Boxing News brings you the undercard results, summaries and a live scorecard for the main event.

Unsanctioned France cricket team plays international tournament amid ‘high’ legal risks
French sports fans normally swell with pride when their famous footballers, rugbymans and Olympians step out in the bleu, blanc et rouge. But when a dubious Équipe de France appeared at the Santarem Cricket Ground in Portugal on Sunday, few in France were behind them – not even their government.
The French sports ministry confirmed in a statement that France Cricket has not held official status since January 1 and therefore is “not legally authorised, under French law, to organise official national competitions, to award national titles, or to designate national teams”.
And yet there they were, taking part in an International Cricket Council tournament that runs through Thursday.
Read moreFrance Cricket faces power struggle as government backing hangs in the balance
France Cricket only held official status by virtue of an agreement with the French Baseball and Softball Federation (FFBS), which expired at the end of last year.
The website of the International Cricket Council (ICC) – the sport’s global governing body – notes that France must have government recognition to qualify as a member. An account of France Cricket’s history that has not been updated since 2016 reads: “France Cricket had to rejoin the FFBS … to comply with ICC requirements concerning government recognition.”
France Cricket is due $560,000 in development funding from the ICC for the period 2026-2027 and reported having made $328,172 in non-ICC income during the previous period.

Le rebel tour
France Cricket has long sought to become a fully independent federation in its own right, free from the FFBS umbrella and directly recognised by both the French government and the ICC. The signature of France Cricket chairman Prebagarane Balane is on the final agreement between France Cricket and the FFBS – which applied from December 2022 to December 2025 – but it specifies that France Cricket must first obtain official recognition, or agrément, from the sports ministry before attempting to be an independent federation: “Obtaining the ministerial agrément referred to in Article L.131-8 of the Sports Code is a mandatory prerequisite.”
“We are still waiting for agrément,” France Cricket acknowledged, according to the minutes from a January 30 meeting.
Minutes from a March 13 meeting in the presence of Jubaid Ahamed, president of the French National Teams Committee, noted attempts to arrange talks with the sports ministry and claimed: “The agrément procedure or ministerial delegation have no bearing on France Cricket’s ability to organise federal competitions.”
Those same notes announce plans for three Equipe de France national teams: The men will go on tour to Portugal, the women will begin training at the start of April and the under-19s will train every Sunday morning at Villiers-le-Bel, north of Paris.
In an email to those involved in the Portugal competition dated March 19, seen by FRANCE 24, Balane was defiant. He said, “France Cricket is a recognised national federation and fully authorised to field a national team.”
Read moreAllegations of fake matches, murky finances plague cricket in France
The French government’s position was already public by that point.
A report in The Cricketer magazine cited correspondence from France’s sports ministry to a dissatisfied cricket club saying that, under the French Sports Code, France Cricket may not use official designations including “Fédération française de cricket”, “Fédération nationale de cricket” or “Équipe de France de cricket” (France national cricket team).
“France Cricket has neither ministerial agrément nor a delegation [to run cricket],” the sports ministry confirmed in their statement to FRANCE 24 on March 25.
Spot the difference
Yet on April 5 – at the start of the T20i series between France, Portugal and Norway – “FRANCE” was clearly emblazoned across the blue, white and red kit of the senior men’s team. The French flag and France Cricket’s cockerel logo appeared on hats and shirts. Match results were diligently added to France’s tally on the official ICC website under the French flag and the name “France”.

The only difference to normal proceedings: on a YouTube stream set up by hosts Portugal, France was labelled as “France XI” (a reference to the 11 players on a cricket team). A person familiar with tournament preparations confirmed that France Cricket asked to field its team as such.
At the venue, a printed sign reading “France” had “XI” added beneath it in pen.

‘High criminal risk’
“The fact of organising international competitions knowing that the legal framework has collapsed constitutes a management fault on the part of the director,” assessed Jim Michel-Gabriel, barrister at the Paris Bar and founding president of the Association of Sports Agents’ Lawyers.
By losing its FFBS affiliation, France Cricket also lost its federated insurance contract, he pointed out – so players taking the field in Portugal do so without injury cover.
“Without the agrément, the association can no longer guarantee players for bodily injury,” he wrote in an email, noting that France Cricket could face insolvency if a serious incident led to major compensation claims.
Management also risks personal civil liability for fielding national or international competitions without the legal shield of a delegated federation, he said, or could even be held criminally responsible. Under the Sports Code, “the administrator or director of any legal entity” that uses official appellations without authorisation could be charged a €7,500 penalty.
“It would be very surprising if, in the absence of delegation … ‘France Cricket’ or ‘France XI’ could compete officially under the ‘France’ banner, which could be confused with the banner of a recognised federation,” said Paris lawyer Fabienne Fajgenbaum.
“France Cricket faces a convergent set of legal risks, primarily criminal and institutional, linked to the exercise of rights reserved for delegated federations,” she added, saying such behaviour put it at “high” to “very high” risk of legal exposure to criminal liability, civil liability and administrative misconduct.
Moreover, she said, these practices undercut its chances for official recognition.
According to an initial assessment, Isabelle Wekstein-Steg, a lawyer specialising in sports at Paris cabinet WAN Avocats, said the use of “France XI” does not appear to violate the French Sports Code, which prohibits unrecognised bodies from using designations including, “French National Team.” But she said that if a court were to determine that the team was being presented as a national team, it could be considered a violation of the code regardless of its name.

Also on the line in Portugal was ICC competition money.
The ICC recognises all 20-over matches between associate members as ranked international matches: Perform well and you climb the rankings. Perform badly and you drop.
The top 60 nations in the men’s rankings are remunerated: “France” was at 52nd before the tournament began, a rank worth $13,500 in bonus funding; the prize halved at rank 55, which is where France found itself after two losses on the first day. But this source of funding remains modest for an ICC member running a total budget of about $900,000.
There is, however, a bigger prize in their sights.
“France” is set for a shot at glory in European qualifiers for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, slated for May 16-23 in Cyprus, according to an ICC press release.
Vacuum
A potential rival emerged to vie for France’s cricket mandate – the multi-sports federation ASPTT – but pulled its candidacy amid concerns around taking on such a burden before securing ICC backing.
In its March 25 statement to FRANCE 24, the sports ministry said no federation had yet earned the delegation for cricket as of January 1. This means that cricket no longer has a recognised authority in France at all, and dozens of clubs across the country might soon struggle to secure funding.
Neither the ICC nor France Cricket responded to a request for comment. Citing an ICC source, The Cricketer reported that the matches would retain their T20 international status.
In a January 9 statement, France Cricket said no national or international authority had published a decision “withdrawing or modifying” its delegation, and that it had filed for ministerial agrément in August 2025 and was awaiting a response. “No ministerial decision calls into question either the recognition of France Cricket or its current management of the discipline,” it said.
The description on its Instagram page now reads “French cricket association”, and not “French Cricket Federation”.

CAF’s Motsepe welcomes corruption probe after Senegal dispute
Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe would welcome an investigation into corruption at the organisation, saying they have nothing to hide following a meeting with Senegalese officials in Dakar on Wednesday.
Senegal’s government last month demanded an investigation into corruption after the country was stripped of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title by the CAF Appeal Board and the trophy awarded to final opponents Morocco.
It follows unruly scenes in the January 18 decider in Rabat that Senegal won 1-0, but during which they left the field for several minutes in protest at a late refereeing decision.
Motsepe met with officials from the Senegalese Football Federation and Senegal president Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Wednesday, where he urged unity following the fall-out from the final. He will be in Morocco on Thursday for a similar set of meetings.
“I would welcome any investigation into corruption at CAF, be it by a government or any institution,” Motsepe told reporters. “In fact, I would encourage it. We will give them our full cooperation.
“I have been told there were problems in the past and we intervened. It is not just in football, but in business and politics too. We cannot give our children the perception that if you want to succeed in life, be corrupt. There has to be zero tolerance (for corruption).
“That’s the best gift we can give football in Africa. Not just talking about corruption, but intervene, put the necessary laws (in place) and implement them.”
Motsepe would not be drawn on the matter between Senegal and Morocco which is now in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“There is nothing I can tell you that I haven’t said already 10, 15, 20 times. You can ask me the same question 100 times, I’ll give you the same answer 100 times. I have an obligation to respect that the matter is now in front of the highest (sports) court in the world.”
Motsepe quashed any suggestion that Morocco had been treated favourably in the appeal process.
“Under no circumstances will any single country in Africa be treated more preferentially or more favourably than any other. That will never happen,” he said.

Updated IPL 2026 Points Table After Gujarat Titans’ Narrow One-Run Win Over Delhi Capitals
Gujarat Titans won by one run against Delhi Capitals.© X (formerly Twitter)
Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by one run despite KL Rahul’s heroic 92 off 52 balls in an Indian Premier League match in New Delhi on Wednesday. Needing two off two balls to reach the victory target of 211, David Miller had a brain-fade moment when he refused a single of the penultimate delivery from Prasidh Krishna and then missed the last delivery with Kuldeep Yadav failing to beat Jos Buttler’s direct throw. Shubman Gill led from the front with a belligerent half-century to help GT post 210 for four.

Besides Gill (70 off 45 balls; 4x4s, 5x6s), Jos Buttler also chipped in with an aggressive 52 off 27 deliveries while Washington Sundar made a fiery 55 off 32 balls after the Capitals opted to bowl.
For DC, Mukesh Kumar (2/55) and Lungi Ngidi (1/24) were the pick of the bowlers.
Chasing, Rahul’s knock went in vain but his 76-run opening partnership in 8.1 overs with Pathum Nissanka (41 off 24) gave momentum to DC’s chase.
But thereafter, none of the DC batters could produce substantial scores before David Miller’s unbeaten 20-ball 41 kept them in the hunt till the last ball.
Rashid Khan (3/17) was the pick of the bowlers for GT.

Realtor and golf amateur Brandon Holtz making most of Masters moments
Scottie Scheffler talks to Brandon Holtz at the practice facility during a practice round for the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. Mandatory Credit: Katie Goodale-Imagn Images AUGUSTA, Ga. — On a typical Saturday there are two places you’re likely to find 39-year-old realtor Brandon Holtz. An open house or participating in his standing 12-man scramble in the Bloomington, Ill., area.
This weekend, Holtz would love nothing more but keeping his feet planted on the pristine grounds at Augusta National. An amateur qualified through the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Troon Country Club in Arizona last September, Holtz has been to the Masters on 15 occasions. But this week, he takes in Masters No. 16, inside the ropes.
“I’m the old fat guy out here. It’s been great,” said Holtz, who will tee off at 9:02 a.m. Thursday in a group that includes two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson. “I’ve met a lot of guys, talked to them, just trying to understand their story a little bit. Played with Tommy Fleetwood (Tuesday), played with Jordan Spieth (Wednesday). Talk about two icons of the sport. Just learned some things from them. At points in time I was just sitting back and watching them play.”
Holtz played college basketball at Illinois State University and became a Masters regular not because of his golf game. His dad, Jeff, serving as Holtz’s caddie this week, was awarded lifetime Masters badges in 2004. On Wednesday, Brandon played in the par-3 contest with his wife, Liz, and 6-year-old son Baker. Daughter, Millie, 2, was also with the group.
Only a year removed from college basketball, Brandon Holtz turned pro. In golf. He wasn’t sponsored and by the time constant travel costs were tabulated, it didn’t take a math genius to compute Holtz was going to need a different path. He had two different college coaches at ISU. One who recruited the hometown kid and another for the final two seasons. Both said they would’ve pushed Holtz to golf had they known this week’s events were a potential reality.
“We can all — hindsight is 20/20,” Holtz said. “We can all sit and dream and wish. Just take life as it comes to you and live in the moment.”
Holtz sees his name published pre-tournament on a ranking of the full 91-player field this week and mostly he’s positioned at the extreme tail end of a rundown that begins with names like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
There is nothing for Holtz to prove on Thursday, Friday or beyond should he continue into the weekend. But he’s already feeling the benefits of being one of the select players at Augusta National this week. Because he felt like he was struggling with the club that got him here — the driver — one of his friends and the USGA arranged for Holtz to have his old driver sent to the course. He anticipated signing for it Wednesday afternoon. “Only got half a day left, but sometimes you just got to get out there and play. Shut the brain off and tee it up and hit it and go find it and hit it again,” Holtz said.
Most Saturdays, Holtz is at Lakeside Country Club. It’s a nine-hole track, memberships for a single golfer under age 40 runs $1,835 and Holtz’s preferred breakfast food gas station is adjacent to two holes. Use your imagination to picture the type of food and goodies runs the group might make between tee shots.
What would it be like to be playing a slightly more challenging round on Saturday for Holtz? He’s trying not to think that many shots ahead.
“I’m taking one shot at a time, trying not to get too far ahead of myself,” Holtz said. “You don’t know what you don’t know. Obviously I’ve been out here, but (it) hasn’t been tournament time yet. So one shot at a time and see what happens.” Augusta National club rules prohibit cell phones on course, and Holtz thought long and hard about breaking those rules after spending Tuesday with Fleetwood and Wednesday being looped into a pairing with Spieth.
“I wish I had my camera. I see all those people taking photographs and I’m wanting to take a shot or two myself. (Spieth is) a great guy,” Holtz said. Just got a lot of information off him. We just talked, talked as people talk. Learned a little bit about his family and he was asking about mine. So it was just really, really fun to play with him.”

Emmitt Smith’s advice to son before NFL Draft
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Living up to a legend’s name is no easy task, and no matter where EJ Smith goes on a football field, he’s looked at a bit differently than most.
That’s because the Texas A&M running back, who hopes to be drafted later this month, is the son of Emmitt Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher.
Smith worked primarily as a backup in college, but at the very least, he did get a workout with his dad’s former Dallas Cowboys earlier this month.

But there was a time in high school, the Hall of Famer said, that his son began to feel the pressure of living up to the likes of his father.
“He came to me one day, he asked the question, ‘How do I deal with all the pressure?’ And I was wondering the type of pressure he was under. He said, ‘Just the pressure of living up to what everybody expects and everything else,’” Smith recalled in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.
“And I broke it down pretty simply. I just asked the one fundamental question. I said, ‘What is everyone saying?’ ‘Everyone expected me to be this and everyone expected me to be that and do this and do that.’ I said, ‘What are your expectations? Are your expectations any different than what they want for you?’ And he said, ‘No.’ I said, ‘Where’s the pressure?’
“Here’s the thing – you gotta run your race, and you gotta disregard what other people are saying. Because you have whatever ability you have, you have to be yourself. And you have to work at being yourself and work at what you need to do to hone your craft. Just go play the game. Put your blinders on. Run your race. You like the horses at the Kentucky Derby. And then when the blinders come off, you may look up one day and find yourself in the damn Super Bowl. You never know.

“But stay the course, disregard all the noise out there ’cause it is noise. And they’re not playing. They’re trying to put their stuff on you and their expectations on you. But if their expectations are different than yours, it don’t matter. Just go meet every expectation that you’re trying to meet. Everything else doesn’t matter.”
Smith said he and EJ talk about “everything under the sun,” making it clear that his top role in life is being a father. That, along with other personal experiences, is why he joined Narcan’s “Ready to Rescue” initiative to stop overdoses during the current opioid epidemic.
Smith’s sister-in-law had a “couple of overdose episodes” while on pain medication for chemo for colon cancer treatment. Smith also noted that his former teammates have had issues with opioids, and friends have even lost children. Although the circumstances are unfortunate, the recent partnership is a natural fit for Smith.
“I think that’s what makes it such a natural way to talk about it. There’s dealing with someone that you lost, or even growing up and seeing cousins, getting hooked on hardcore drugs, and then seeing them wean themselves off of it, going through that whole entire process of not understanding that there’s mechanisms out there that people can go to get help,” Smith said, adding his concern for the “rampant” run of fentanyl.
“Anybody is subject to get caught up in something at any point in time anywhere, and not even realize it. And so when that happens, you want to make sure that the people that are closest to you or around you have access to something like the Narcan nasal spray.

The Smith family, of course, is hoping they get good news during the draft. But Smith has one more piece of advice for his son on how to deal with the pressure of waiting for a call.
“I told him on draft day, go play golf, go hang out, don’t even look at the damn TV,” he said. “Let your agent call you and say, ‘Hey man, we got something.’ Don’t even worry about draft day.”

‘Take this very seriously’: Australian cricket board breaks silence on David Warner’s drink-driving case | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: Former Australia cricketer David Warner has landed in trouble after being charged with drink driving in Sydney. The 39-year-old, who now captains Sydney Thunder and Karachi Kings, was allegedly caught during a routine breath test with a blood alcohol level of 0.104, more than double the legal limit. He is due to appear in court on May 7, though reports say the case will not affect his participation in the Pakistan Super League.
Cricket NSW responds, future impact
Cricket New South Wales (NSW) has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and said it will support Warner while the legal process unfolds.“Cricket NSW is a strong advocate of safe driving, including avoiding drink-driving, and takes incidents of this nature very seriously,” chief executive Lee Germon said, as quoted by AFP.“David is aware of the seriousness of these allegations. We will support him through the upcoming process.”
What happened and what Warner said
According to police, the incident took place during a random check in Maroubra. Officers noticed a vehicle stopping short of the testing site before approaching the driver. A roadside test returned a positive result, and Warner was taken to the police station where a second test confirmed the reading.“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra,” the police statement read. “A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing which returned a positive result.“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104.“The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026.”Reports claim Warner told police he had consumed three glasses of wine before driving home. While Warner continues to play in the PSL, the case could affect his reputation and commercial ties if he is found guilty.

Angels’ Jorge Soler suspended 7 games, Braves’ Reynaldo Lopez 5 for brawl
Apr 7, 2026; Anaheim, California, USA; A fight breaks out between Atlanta Braves pitcher Reynaldo López (40) and Los Angeles Angels right fielder Jorge Soler (12) during the fifth inning at Angel Stadium. Mandatory Credit: William Navarro-Imagn Images Los Angeles Angels outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler has been suspended seven games and fined an undisclosed amount and Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez agreed to a reduced five-game suspension and fine due to the fight that led to their ejections in the fifth inning of Tuesday night’s 7-2 Atlanta win in Anaheim, Calif.
Major League Baseball initially suspended Lopez for seven games, via its announcement on Wednesday, before the discipline was later reduced to five.
Soler’s suspension was scheduled to begin with Wednesday’s series finale but he appealed, meaning it will be paused until the appeal is resolved.
Soler, who hit a two-run homer in the first inning and was struck by a pitch on his left hand in the third, took exception to a high and inside fifth-inning fastball that glanced off the glove of catcher Jonah Heim and bounced to the backstop, enabling Nolan Schanuel, who had walked, to advance to second.
Soler stared at Lopez for several seconds before jogging to the mound. Both players then squared up and began throwing punches, none of which appeared to land squarely, as players from both teams rushed in. Lopez fended Soler off with his glove and threw punches with his right hand, which still held the baseball.
Braves manager Walt Weiss ended up tackling Soler on the first base line to help break up the fracas.
Lopez was nearing the end of his outing, at 80 pitches and 4 2/3 innings over which the right-hander struck out seven and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and two walks.
Soler was the 2021 World Series MVP for the Braves and is now on his third different team since that brief stint, plus a return to Atlanta in 2024.

Rangers ride 3-run inning to shutout win over Mariners
Apr 8, 2026; Arlington, Texas, USA; Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Winn (60) and catcher Danny Jansen (9) react after defeating the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field. Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images A three-run inning was all the Rangers needed to defeat the Mariners 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Arlington, Texas, giving Texas a three-game series sweep over slumping Seattle.
A bases-loaded throwing error by Mariners first baseman Connor Joe allowed two runs to score, and Texas added another in the bottom of the fifth against Seattle starter Bryan Woo (0-1).
The Rangers got five scoreless innings from starter MacKenzie Gore (2-0), who allowed one hit and struck out nine with two walks. Then, their bullpen finished off the Mariners with four scoreless innings: two for Chris Martin, one for Luis Curvelo and the ninth inning for Cole Winn, who earned his first career save.
The Mariners managed just three runs total in the series despite good pitching. Seattle lost its fifth straight game and seventh in its last eight.
Seattle has been shut out three times in that eight-game stretch and has not scored more than three runs in any of those games.
The Rangers have had a season of streaks thus far. After winning four straight, they lost four in a row and have now won three consecutive games.
In the decisive fifth inning, Texas got three straight singles from Danny Jansen, Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran. Then, Brandon Nimmo hit a slow chopper to first base, which Joe fielded but threw high to home plate and over catcher Mitch Garver in an attempt to get a force out.
The error resulted in two runs, and Corey Seager added a sacrifice fly before the inning was over.
Seattle was held to just two hits in the game. But right fielder Rob Refsnyder robbed a home run from Smith in the bottom of the third inning, leaping at the wall to make a catch on the run just before reaching the foul pole.
