David Benavidez admits he’s ‘not ready right now’ to face one champion: “I have a lot of respect for him”
David Benavidez has ruled out one fight in particular, despite Turki Alalshikh attempting to persuade him with a major opportunity.
The 29-year-old entered his first outing at 200lbs last month, becoming a three-weight world champion by dethroning Gilberto Ramirez for the WBO and WBA titles.
But while his emphatic sixth-round finish would suggest he is a natural cruiserweight, Benavidez clearly feels as though he could benefit from more experience at the weight.
As such, it is hardly surprising that he successfully lobbied the WBC to install him as the mandatory challenger at 200lbs, hoping to secure a three-belt unification match with fellow champion Noel Mikaelian.
The pair are now reportedly in deep negotiations to collide later this year, potentially leaving Zuffa champion Jai Opetaia without an opponent for his next outing.
Whatever the case, though, it certainly appears that Benavidez is eager to remain at cruiserweight, rather than challenge unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Despite coming off a sub-par performance against Rico Verhoeven, who he stopped in round 11 last month, Usyk is still widely considered the top dog of his division.
Reluctant to take a gamble against the Ukrainian, Benavidez has told Luis Parra that not even powerbroker Alalshikh can convince him otherwise.
“[Alalshikh] didn’t talk to me directly, [but] he was talking to the people around me and said he wanted to make that fight. But honestly, I have a lot of respect for Usyk, and I’m not ready for that right now.
“If he came down to cruiserweight then yeah, we could fight at cruiserweight. But I’m not moving up.”
Having been ordered to defend his WBC title against ‘interim’ champion Agit Kabayel, Usyk must now decide whether to pursue their mandated fight or vacate the belt.

Linda Noskova overpowers Jessica Pegula to win Berlin Open

Czech world number 13 Linda Noskova overcame American world number four Jessica Pegula to claim the Wimbledon warm-up WTA tournament in Berlin 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Sunday.
The players took the court almost six hours late after a day of wild weather in the German capital, which forced the tournament to be evacuated for several hours.
The 21-year-old claimed the opening set and maintained control in the match despite losing the second set against the 2024 champion to claim a second career title and a first at WTA 500 level.

Czech Noskova is set to climb into the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career when the new rankings are released next week.
“(This is) very incredible and unforgettable for me,” Noskova said.
“It’s my second title, so like I said, you never forget the first ones, but you always never forget the second ones as well.”
The result was a setback for 32-year-old Pegula, who has never won a Grand Slam, just a week out from the start of Wimbledon.
Pegula eliminated world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals on Saturday to reach the final in Berlin for a second time.
Noskova breezed past Filipina qualifer Alex Eala in the semis and continued her strong form to break Pegula twice and claim the opening set.
Pegula found her feet in the second, breaking her opponent once to take it 6-4, the first time Noskova had dropped a set so far this tournament.
The American looked to have a footing in the match but Noskova broke early in the deciding set to drag the match back into her favour.
Noskova is set to remain in Germany in the coming week to take part in the Bad Homburg tournament, another key Wimbledon preparation event, before travelling to England.

White Sox reinstate C Kyle Teel from 60-day injured list
Feb 26, 2026; Phoenix, Arizona, USA; Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel against the Los Angeles Dodgers during a spring training game at Camelback Ranch-Glendale. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images The Chicago White Sox reinstated catcher Kyle Teel from the 60-day injured list ahead of Monday’s series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians.
Teel, 24, opened the season on the IL. After straining his right hamstring during Team Italy’s World Baseball Classic game against the United States on March 10, he sprained the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee during a rehab stint at Triple-A Charlotte on May 16.
Teel just completed a four-game rehab stint at Charlotte, where he batted .500 (8-for-16) with one home run, four RBIs and five runs. He posted a five-hit game at Buffalo on Friday.
A first-round draft pick (14th overall) by Boston in 2023, Teel came to Chicago in the December 2024 deal that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox. Teel made his major league debut last season and batted .273 with eight homers and 35 RBIs in 78 games for the White Sox.
Chicago optioned catcher Edgar Quero, 23, to Charlotte in a corresponding move Monday. Quero is batting .187 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 55 games this season.

Iran Leave Message of Peace After World Cup Draw With Belgium
Iran’s national team left a touching message calling for peace, respect and friendship after their World Cup group match against Belgium at Los Angeles Stadium.
The handwritten note was found in the team’s dressing room after a goalless draw in their second Group G game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In the message released by the Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI), the players thanked the people of Los Angeles for their hospitality and expressed pride in representing their country during a difficult period.

“From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilised Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast,” the note read.
“We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honour, and leave with dignity.”
The team also thanked Iranian supporters for their backing during the tournament and ended the message with a call for unity among nations.
“May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations,” the statement added.
The note also paid tribute to the victims of an attack on a girls’ school in Minab, where at least 168 people reportedly lost their lives on the opening day of the conflict involving Iran.
Iran’s participation at the World Cup has been affected by ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, one of the tournament’s co-hosts alongside Canada and Mexico.
Several members of Iran’s backroom staff were denied entry visas into the United States, while the Iranian Football Federation also raised concerns after its ticket allocation was withdrawn shortly before the competition began.
As a result, Iran moved their tournament base from Arizona in the United States to Tijuana in Mexico. The team has also faced strict travel rules, allowing them to enter the United States only a day before matches and leave immediately after games.
Iran began their campaign with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand before holding Belgium to another draw. They will complete their group-stage matches against Egypt in Seattle on June 27.
Despite the challenges, Iran remain hopeful of progressing to the knockout stage as they prepare for their final Group G encounter.

Naoya Inoue’s promoter confirms target opponent and timeline: “I’m sure you can guess”
Naoya Inoue scored one of the standout victories of 2026 against Junto Nakatani, and now his promoter has confirmed that talks for another blockbuster clash are ‘in motion’.
Last month, Inoue got the better of fellow Japanese superstar Nakatani, in what was both the biggest fight in Japanese boxing history and one of the most anticipated bouts of the 2026 boxing calendar.
Attention has since turned to Jesse Rodriguez’, who held three super-flyweight world titles at the time of Inoue’s recent win. ‘Bam’ has vacated his belts and secured the WBA bantamweight world title with a knockout win over Antonio Vargas. The American’s trainer, Robert Garcia, has suggested that they will have one more fight at the weight before moving up again to challenge Inoue.
Speaking with Yahoo Japan, Inoue’s promoter, Hideyuki Ohasi, all but confirmed that Inoue will face Rodriguez in February next year, and that, despite ‘Bam’ looking for an interim fight, it may be the Japanese icon’s next outing.
“He will have a big fight in February next year, I am sure you can guess which one. That’s also in motion right now. Once that’s done, the next one will be in an extraordinary place.”
Rodriguez is expected to either defend his WBA bantamweight crown against Seiya Tsutsumi or attempt to unify the 118lb titles with WBO champion Christian Medina later this year ahead of a jump up to 122lbs.

Argentina vs Austria LIVE SCORE FIFA WC 2026: Argentina look to stay unbeaten; kick-off at 10:30 PM | FIFA World Cup 2026
Defending champions Argentina and Austria will be looking to keep their winning runs going in the FIFA World Cup 2026 when they take on each other in a Group J match today at Dallas Stadium in Arlington.
Argentina, in their campaign opener, beat Algeria 3-0 thanks to skipper Lionel Messi’s hat-trick. A win against Austria today means they are likely to keep their title defence alive at least until the Round of 32.
On the other hand, Austria beat Jordan 3-1 in their first game and will leave no stone unturned to create a major upset by beating Argentina in their second game. A win for them will also almost secure their place in the next round, while a loss will make their final group-stage game a do-or-die encounter.
But will Argentina extend their winning streak, or will Austria cause an upset? Stay tuned to find out.
Argentina look to maintain momentum
Argentina produced a statement performance against Algeria, with Messi once again demonstrating why he remains the focal point of Lionel Scaloni’s side. The Inter Miami forward scored all three goals as La Albiceleste began their campaign with a comfortable victory.
Scaloni is expected to make at least one change after Gonzalo Montiel was ruled out through injury, with Nahuel Molina likely to slot in at right-back. Julian Alvarez is also pushing for a starting berth after beginning the opening match on the bench, potentially replacing Lautaro Martinez alongside Messi in attack.
With six points enough to guarantee progress to the Round of 32, Argentina will be eager to avoid any slip-up and strengthen their grip on top spot in Group J before facing Iran in their final group-stage fixture.
Austria seek another statement result
Austria announced their return to the World Cup in style by defeating Jordan 3-1 to join Argentina on three points at the top of Group J.
Ralf Rangnick’s side relied on goals from Christoph Baumgartner, Michael Gregoritsch and substitute Marko Arnautovic to overcome the tournament debutants and will now attempt to test the reigning champions.
Changes could be on the cards, with Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso pushing for a place in the starting XI. His inclusion could allow captain David Alaba to shift to left-back, while veteran striker Arnautovic will hope his late goal against Jordan is enough to earn a start.
Austria have not reached the knockout stage since 1954, but another positive result in Dallas would put them on course to end that wait and potentially emerge as one of the surprise packages of FIFA World Cup 2026.

Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova handed four-year ban – here’s why | Tennis News
NEW DELHI: Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been handed a four-year ban after refusing to take an anti-doping test at her home in December 2025. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said an independent tribunal found the Czech player guilty of violating anti-doping rules. Her suspension will run until June 21, 2030, although she has the option to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.Vondrousova, who made history by becoming the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon in 2023, said the incident happened during a difficult period in her life and linked her actions to struggles with her mental health.“It is very tough for me to talk about this, but I want to be transparent with you about my mental health,” Vondrousova said. “The recent doping control incident happened because I reached a breaking point after months of physical and mental stress.”The 26-year-old had earlier said she refused the test because of “mental stress” and fear when the testing official “rang my door late at night without properly identifying themselves.”According to the ITIA, Vondrousova “did not submit a sample when notified by a Doping Control Officer (DCO) during an out-of-competition test attempt at her home at around 8 p.m. on 3 December 2025.”Vondrousova was represented by lawyer Howard Jacobs, who previously helped Simona Halep reduce her own four-year ban. The Czech star now joins a list of leading players linked to doping cases in recent years, including Halep, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. The decision comes just days before the start of Wimbledon.

Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson nightclub controversy: ECB delivers final verdict | Cricket News
England captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson have been cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation into a nightclub incident that occurred after their team’s victory over New Zealand earlier this month. The pair had already been handed written warnings by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for breaching a team curfew and were omitted from the second Test against New Zealand. However, both players are expected to return for the series-deciding third Test, which begins on Thursday at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. On Monday, the independent Cricket Regulator confirmed that no disciplinary action would be taken against either player after completing its review of the matter. The controversy stemmed from events following England’s win in the opening Test, when Stokes and Atkinson stayed out beyond the team’s midnight curfew and visited a London nightclub. During the same evening, a team security official was reportedly struck by a rugby player from Premiership club Saracens. The Cricket Regulator launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and said it examined a range of evidence before reaching its conclusion. “Having carefully reviewed all currently available information, the Cricket Regulator has determined that there is insufficient evidence to establish that any regulatory breach occurred,” the body said in a statement. According to the regulator, investigators pursued “multiple lines of inquiry to gather and assess evidence” before deciding that the case did not warrant further action. The episode reignited debate around the culture within the England men’s setup, particularly after criticism that followed the team’s unsuccessful Ashes tour of Australia, where reports of excessive drinking and unprofessional behaviour had attracted widespread attention. While the off-field issue has now been resolved, attention will quickly shift back to cricket. England and New Zealand head into the third and final Test with the series level at 1-1, setting up a decisive showdown at Trent Bridge.

Argentina fans building incredible atmosphere in Dallas
The noise is deafening surrounding this spaceship-like stadium with Argentina fans flocking to this Arlington hub for the latest glimpse of Messi.
There’s pride in the No 19 jersey, as much as the No 10, a hint to the journey that continues, despite No 3 for Argentina in Qatar.
Inside the stadium, the concourse underneath the enormous glass windows has thousands of Argentine fans gathering, quite whether they return to their seats at kick-off is unclear, it’s a unique vantage point.
There is only a smattering of red in this stadium, with the Red Eagles contingent tucked away in the far corner in the third tier of this football cathedral, with soccer now experiencing the magic of what Jerry Jones built for his Cowboys.
