East Bengal FC gave a dazzling display to score a comprehensive 5-0 victory over South United FC in their final Group A match of the Durand Cup on Friday, keeping their quarterfinal hopes alive in the tournament. Dani Ramírez (6′), Mohamad Basim Rashid (24′), Hardik Bhatt (73′), Bipin Singh (81′) and David Lalhlansanga (90 5′) scored for the Red and Gold Brigade. The result took East Bengal FC to six points from three Group A games, with a goal difference of plus-11, leaving them comfortably placed in the race to qualify for the quarterfinals as one of the tournament’s best second-placed teams.
South United FC, meanwhile, concluded their campaign with the heavy defeat.
With both sides playing their final group match, East Bengal started brightly, with Jesin T.K. Thonikkara dragging an early left-footed effort wide before South United captain Noel S made an important intervention to halt another dangerous attack.

The breakthrough came in the sixth minute through a moment of individual brilliance from Dani Ramírez. Receiving the ball from captain Mohamad Basim Rashid, the Spaniard shifted onto his preferred foot before unleashing a stunning long-range strike into the top far corner, leaving goalkeeper Sunil Singh with no chance.
East Bengal continued to dominate possession, with Jeakson Singh, Ramírez and Jesin combining neatly through midfield, while wingers Edmund Lalrindika and P.V. Vishnu stretched the South United defence.
Sandip Mandi delivered an inviting cross that narrowly evaded Vishnu before Jesin’s close-range header was denied by Noel S, who produced another timely defensive intervention. Moments later, Basim Rashid’s cross found Ignacio Monsalve Vicente inside the penalty area, but the defender’s header drifted wide.
Despite East Bengal’s sustained pressure, South United defended resolutely. Rowan James and Rishik Shetty produced a series of crucial blocks and clearances as the visitors crowded their own penalty area, forcing the Kolkata giants to attempt efforts from distance.

The second goal eventually arrived in the 24th minute from a well-worked corner. Dani Ramírez’s delivery from the right was flicked on at the near post by Jesin, allowing Basim Rashid to power a header into the net at the far post.
East Bengal continued to push for a third but repeatedly found South United defending in numbers. The third goal finally came in the 73rd minute through defender Hardik Bhatt. He unleashed a powerful low strike from distance that appeared to be comfortably covered by Sunil Singh, but the goalkeeper was wrong-footed by the late movement of the ball and could only watch as it slipped through his grasp and into the net.
The Red and Gold Brigade added a fourth eight minutes later. Christopher James delivered a dangerous cross from the left that was only partially cleared by the South United defence. Bipin Singh timed his run perfectly before guiding a close-range header inside the near post.
The final goal arrived with virtually the last kick of the game. David Lalhlansanga collected the ball inside the penalty area and emphatically slammed a left-footed finish into the roof of the net to complete a resounding 5-0 victory. PTI AM AM KHS

Spain’s Royal Family Welcomes World Cup Champions To Zarzuela Palace
Gianni Infantino’s alleged lover was given a severance payment over the affair by Uefa while he was its general secretary, according to a Daily Telegraph investigation, external.
A spokesman for the now Fifa president was reported to have told the paper Infantino “strongly denies these categorically untrue allegations”.
Uefa, for whom Infantino was general secretary from 2009 to 2016, issued a statement confirming “a departure payment was made to the individual in question”.
The allegations come as Infantino fights for his future as Fifa president following his aborted plans to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

BBC Sport has contacted Fifa and Infantino for comment.
The Telegraph reported that Uefa paid a six-figure sum to the woman, who had an alleged relationship with Infantino, who is married, during his time at European football’s governing body.
“Fifa president Gianni Infantino strongly denies these allegations, and they are categorically untrue. Any insinuation of inappropriate conduct or violation of statutes or regulations is defamatory,” a Fifa spokesman told the Telegraph.
“No employee at Uefa and Fifa has ever raised a complaint regarding Mr Infantino’s behaviour because there never was an incident where he was involved.”

Uefa confirmed a payment was made to the woman in question and that it covered the fees for her to complete an MBA course at a local business school.
It said all payments were in line with regulations at the time, but those regulations have since been tightened and “reflect those found in a modern, high-profile organisation”.
A guncharge against Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star James Harden has been dismissed, according to court records.
The charge was dropped on Thursday by Harris County Criminal Court Judge Alex Salgado in Houston, Texas, at the request of the Harris County district attorney’s office.
Harden completed an alternative resolution program, which allows defendants to avoid a criminal conviction through community service, though the specific terms were not detailed.
Harden was arrested on June 13 in Houston after police found a handgun in his vehicle. The California native was accused of “unlawfully, intentionally and knowingly” having a gun in his vehicle, which was unholstered and “in plain view,” according to a copy of the complaint obtained by The New York Post.
Texas law classifies having a gun “in plain view” in a vehicle without a license as a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Sources told the outlet that the shooting guard had been at a Houston hookah lounge with friends before the early morning arrest. Harden was released after paying a $100 bond.
The 36-year-old guard finished his 17th NBA season in May, when the Cavaliers were swept by the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals. He averaged 23.6 points per game during the regular season.
Harden has indicated he wishes to remain with the Cavaliers, but declined a $42.3 million option for next season in favor of a longer contract, which is not yet finalized.
An 11-time All-Star and eight-time All-NBA selection, Harden was named MVP in the 2017-18 season while with the Houston Rockets.

The start of the NFL season isn’t too far away now but there is still time to get some rankings in ahead of the 2026 season. The good folk over at Pro Football Focus have been doing just that. I previously looked at where PFF ranked the Vikings’ offensive playmakers; this time, I will be looking at the Vikings offensive line.
Where Vikings Offensive Line Players Land in PFF Rankings Ahead of 2026
PFF has been ranking the top 32 players at each position and the offensive line is split into tackle, guard, and center. When it comes to the Vikings offensive line, four of the team’s five starting linemen made it into the rankings. The one who missed out was Donovan Jackson who didn’t do enough in his rookie season to crack the top 32 for guards. Jackson did have a decent rookie season and showed the potential to be able to rise up any guard rankings with continued development.
The positioning of the players in their respective rankings tells a story that we already know. Minnesota’s strength is on the edge with their offensive tackles, while the interior of the offensive line remains a concern despite the amount of money and draft capital that has been thrown at it in recent years. The Vikings IOL comes into the season relatively inexperienced either in terms of years in the league or playing time at a new position.

Brian O’Neill – OT Rank – 14th

O’Neill played a career-low 734 snaps in 2025, but turned in some of his best work when he was on the field. His 81.6 PFF grade was the 12th-best mark among qualified tackles. O’Neill dominated on the ground with a career-high 84.5 PFF run-blocking grade that ranked eighth among that same group. Assuming O’Neill and running mate Christian Darrisaw are healthy, they should be the foundation of a premier offensive line in Minnesota.
Brian O’Neill recently signed a new four-year contract extension worth $96 million, which puts him in range of finishing his career as Vikings. Consistency in both pass protection and run blocking has made him a foundational piece of the Vikings offensive line for several years.
Christian Darrisaw is the Vikings’ best tackle, but O’Neill has been a solid presence on the right side for Minnesota ever since he was drafted in the second round of the 2018 draft. O’Neill has been healthier and more available as of late and his ranking at 14th is about right even if the Vikings fan in me wants to push him closer to the top 10.
Christian Darrisaw – OT Rank – 18th
At his peak, Darrisaw is one of the best tackles in the NFL. Unfortunately, he has yet to play all 17 games in a given season and suited up on fewer than 600 snaps in each of 2024 and 2025. He posted a career-low 65.6 PFF grade last season, but recorded an 80.0-plus grade in three consecutive seasons prior to that. Still just 27 years old, Darrisaw should have ample opportunities to prove himself an elite player once again.
Before his devastating knee injury that occurred during the 2024 season, Darrisaw was firmly in the conversation when picking the best five tackles in the game. His knee injury lingered into last season where he never looked quite right after returning to the field. The good news is Darrisaw has said he is back at 100% heading into the 2026 season. Minnesota will hope he returns to his elite level of play we saw pre-injury, where he could handle the best pass rushers in the game.

Will Fries – OG Rank – 31st

Fries didn’t quite live up to the five-year, $87 million contract he signed last offseason in his first year with Minnesota. His 61.8 PFF grade was much more in line with the level of play he showed in 2022 and 2023. Perhaps he can recapture the excellent form he displayed in 2024, but that performance came across fewer than 300 snaps. It’s possible, but Fries will need to show meaningful improvement this season to justify his hefty contract.
The best thing to say about Will Fries’ first season in Minnesota is that he was healthy. He was the only lineman who managed to play in all 17 games. His play was solid but the Vikings aren’t paying him to be solid and just scrape into a top 32 rankings. He got a huge contract on the back of a few very good games before a broken leg ended his 2024 season.
It was a big risk and Minnesota will be desperately hoping that a year to settle in, a more consistent group alongside him, and a new offensive line coach – Keith Carter – are a recipe for Fries to find the kind of form that earned him his big contract again. As one of the last major bits of business of the departed Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, there is a valid concern that the former GM has left the Vikings with an expensive flop but there is still time for Fries to prove himself and become a cornerstone of the Vikings offensive line.
Blake Brandel – OC Rank – 25th
The Vikings have no clean answers at the center position heading into 2026. Brandel, along with Michael Jurgens and rookie Gavin Gerhardt, stand as the team’s current options to fill the role, none of which provide a proven track record at the NFL level. While Jurgens and Gerhardt have more experience at the position dating back to college, Brandel has seen more action across his six NFL seasons, including a stint as the Vikings’ starting left guard in 2024.
Blake Brandel has been the utility man of the Vikings offensive line over the past few years. Starting as a swing tackle, moving to a starting guard role, and now to the starting center. I’ve seen rankings where Brandel doesn’t make the 32, and with his lack of games at the position that’s fair enough. PFF gives him credit for being a good lineman here with a 25th place in the rankings. How Brandel fares with all the different aspects that come with being at the center of the line will have a big impact on the Vikings’ fortunes this season.

Riding King Kannan GP, who also won on the opening day, the Derry rider took victory in the Reynolds Logistics Speed Derby with a clear round in 83.46 seconds.

Karl Cook & Foxy De La Roque win Cashel Palace Hotel Stakes
The Cashel Palace Hotel Stakes later in the afternoon went to American Karl Cook and Foxy De La Roque. The combination were clear in the opening round, before producing the fastest clear of 37.11 seconds in the jump-off.
Kevin Staut, the former World Number 1-ranked rider from France, was second aboard Ever De Turan, producing a clear in 38.43 in the jump-off round.
Former Ireland Chef D’Équipe, Rodrigo Pessoa from Brazil, completed an all-International podium, as Major Tom stopped the clock at 38.72 in round two, his second clear round of the class.
Sporting CP get underway in the new Portuguese Primeira Liga campaign when they visit the Estadio Jose Gomes to face Estrela Amadora on Saturday. Having lost each of the previous 10 meetings between the two teams since September 2007, Pepa’s men will be keen to end their 19-year hoodoo against Sporting and cause an early league upset.
It was another hugely disappointing league run for Estrela last season, with the Amadora-based outfit finishing 15th in the table for a second straight year and avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth.

Late NBA player Brandon Clarke died of a drug overdose, authorities announced Friday.
Clarke, then of the Memphis Grizzlies, was found dead on May 11 in his Los Angeles home from what the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said Friday was an accidental overdose from “the effects of heroin and cocaine.”
Authorities found drug paraphernalia in his home when he died. He was 29 years old.

While Clarke was a first-round pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019, his rights were traded to the Grizzlies in exchange for the rights to Darius Bazley and a future second-round pick. Clarke quickly made his impact known with the Grizzlies, earning MVP in the 2019 NBA Summer League, where the Vancouver native became the second non-American to ever win the award. Clarke spent the past seven years with the Grizzlies, where he mainly played a role off the bench.
This past season was a rough one for Clarke, though. He played just two games, initially sitting out due to surgery needed on his right knee before a right calf strain he suffered forced him to miss most games this season.

Memphis announced in March that Clarke was still rehabbing his injury, but recent tests showed he needed more time to heal. As a result, the expectation was he would return next season.
Clarke got into some trouble with the law in April, as he was arrested in Arkansas and booked on charges of improper passing, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing and exceeding the speed limit and trafficking a controlled substance. He was set to be in court on May 15.
Clarke starred for Gonzaga during his college career before his impact on the Grizzlies. He made the 2019-20 All-Rookie team after averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in his bench role that season.

Clarke averaged 20.8 minutes on the floor across 309 career games, while tallying 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest over his career.

Manchester United have encountered a complication regarding a move for Lewis Hall and are considering whether to match the valuation for a centre‑back signing
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up whether to meet Bologna’s €25million (£21.7m) asking price for Jhon Lucumi following an update on Lewis Hall. The Colombian centre-back has been strongly linked to several European teams with United among the frontrunners over other interested parties.
Sunderland were unsuccessful in their pursuit of him last summer, and he has since attracted interest from Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan. Those clubs now appear to join United among the frontrunners for his signature, with Lucumi understood to be open to leaving Bologna only for a ‘big club.’

Corriere di Bologna report that United are among the clubs considering paying Bologna’s valuation, alongside Chelsea. The west Londoners, who have sold Trevoh Chalobah to Como, can now explore a potential deal for Lucumi.
It’s also noted that Juventus have an agreement with the player over personal terms, but their offer has failed to satisfy the Italian club – leaving the door open to a potential move to the Premier League. Bologna are said to be hopeful that English clubs could spark a bidding war with Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest also in the mix.
United and Chelsea are described as being ‘capable’ of meeting Bologna’s €25m (£21.7m) valuation, however. This comes as Newcastle have informed the Old Trafford hierarchy that Hall is not for sale this summer, after an initial enquiry was rejected, according to Sky Sports.

Newcastle are also in the market to sign another full-back, meaning they cannot afford to lose one. Previous reports suggested United had been willing to pay £60m for his services.

Michael Carrick is keen to strengthen his left‑back options. Patrick Dorgu is expected to operate higher up the pitch, while youngster Harry Amass has been told he can leave the club. That leaves Luke Shaw as the only established option in the position.
Hall emerged as a leading target after impressing in the Premier League for Newcastle and narrowly missing out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.

The goalkeeper has completed a transfer away from Manchester United this week
Altay Bayindir has sent a goodbye message to Manchester United after completing a move away from the club. He has signed for Celta Vigo on a season-long loan.
The Spanish side also have the option to make the move permanent for a £3.5 million fee next summer. Bayindir’s wages will be covered by his loan club, with United also receiving performance-related bonuses and a high sell-on percentage if the deal becomes permanent.

The club confirmed the move on Friday, with the goalkeeper on search for more regular game time. He was a backup to Senne Lammens last season and played just six games during the campaign.
He has spent three seasons at United after signing from Turkish side Fenerbahce for a fee of £4.3 million. Following the confirmation of his exit, Bayindir took to social media to say his goodbyes to the club and United fans.
Along with pictures and videos from his time at Old Trafford, he wrote: “Thank you for every chant, every message and every moment we have shared. Your support means a lot to me and I’ll carry it with me throughout this next chapter of my life. I’ll miss Old Trafford but this is not goodbye.

“The country that invented the game, you know, you’d think we would have had a bit more of that attention. I have been part of Governments that have tried to bring the World Cup here, it’s just the voting.
“Let’s be honest, some of the practices within football haven’t supported even-handed decision-making. I’m being diplomatic here, but it’s not good, is it?”
Despite not hosting the World Cup for 60 years, the UK has hosted games at the men’s European Championships twice and fixtures at the 2028 tournament will be played in the UK and Ireland.
Meanwhile, the UK will host the women’s World Cup in 2035. It hosted the 2005 and 2022 women’s European Championships. The latter saw England’s women win the tournament for the first time on home soil.

Since entering Downing Street himself, Mr Burnham has called for Mr Infantino to resign, saying he is the “wrong man” to lead Fifa over his bungled attempt to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investors.
He told journalists: “I do not believe that he is the right man to lead football forward on the world stage.
“The plan that was put forward was offensive to many people, football people, around the world, and it can’t be the case that we just move on and forget that, it wasn’t acceptable.”
