Rory McIlroy’s Masters triumph was momentarily upstaged by an overzealous fan who attempted to photobomb his family celebration.
The awkward moment occurred just after McIlroy left the 18th green at Augusta, where he immediately embraced his wife Erica Stoll.
As the couple shared their heartfelt hug, a spectator wearing a watch and hat was spotted leaning forward, gesturing for a fist bump from the newly crowned champion.
The ill-timed interaction was captured on camera, showing the fan’s innocent attempt to insert himself into a private moment between McIlroy and his wife.

The photobombing quickly went viral across social media platforms, with the social media reaction to the photobombing swift and merciless.
One fan commented: “Shout out to the dude asking for a fist bump from Rory McIlroy as he celebrates his win at the Masters with his family.”
Another was less charitable, simply stating: “That’s entitlement.”
“The guy looks exactly like the type of guy who’d ask for a fist bump in a very inappropriate moment,” added a third observer.
His win at Augusta completed the career Grand Slam, a feat achieved by only a select few in golfing history, as he fended off competition from Justin Rose.
McIlroy was visibly emotional after his triumph, overwhelmed by the significance of his achievement.
The World No 2 had faced a long drought since his last Major victory, making this win particularly poignant.
As soon as he finished on the 18th green, his thoughts turned immediately to sharing the moment with his family.

The moment carried extra significance given McIlroy and Erica’s recent personal journey, with the couple reconciling last summer after the golfer filed for divorce in May 2024.
Speaking about his family after his win, the Briton broke down and said: “Last, but certainly not least over to my left. My family…my team…”
After regaining his composure, he added: “They’ve been on this journey with me the whole way through.
“They know the burden that I’ve carried to be able to come here every year and try and try and try again.
“The one thing that I would say to my daughter Poppy, who’s sitting over there: never give up on your dreams. Never, ever give up on your dreams.
“Keep coming back, keep working hard, and if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. I love you.”
