Gilas Pilipinas Youth clinch No. 2 seed, rout Thais in U18 Asia Cup

MANILA, Philippines–Gilas Pilipinas Youth bounced back with a 91-62 win over regional rival Thailand to clinch the second seed in Group A of the Fiba U18 Asia Cup on Monday at Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.
After a slow start that saw them trail by as many as 12 in the first quarter and four at halftime, Gilas Boys came out firing in the second half, turning a close encounter into a one-sided affair.
Knotted up at 50 at the 5:17 mark of the third period, the Philippines went on a blistering 33-0 surge over the next nine minutes and 23 seconds with Chog Moral’s layup making it an 83-50 spread with 5:54 left.

Luke Atacador led Gilas with 16 points on 3-of-3 shooting from long range, while Elias Gish and George Green combined for 30 points and 15 rebounds.
Gilas, which rebounded from a 107-69 loss to Australia on Saturday, shot 10-of-21 from three and dominated the rebounding department, 54-33.
The Philippines advanced to the knockout crossover, where it faces Group B’s third seed or the winner between Syria and Bahrain.
