Rory McIlroy won the 89th Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, April 13, in a nail-biting playoff against Justin Rose. The 35-year-old McIlroy is now the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam that includes winning all four major championships: The Masters, PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship.
Golfers who compete at the sport’s elite level can spend three to five hours on the course during an event like the Masters, typically under the stress of countless eyeballs, cameras, and commentary on every move they make. (1) While a clean stroke, a focused mindset, and a tender touch on the green are necessities at a skills level, how do the top golfers keep their bodies fueled up while walking miles on the course?
Well, we have an answer: During the Masters, McIlroy was seen eating a Transparent Labs Grass-Fed Protein+ Bar on the 18th hole.
Disclaimer:Rory McIlroy is not a Transparent Labs-sponsored athlete.
While crushing a protein bar after crushing 300-plus-yard drives isn’t unusual, let’s break down why the Protein+ Bar, in particular, has the macros to support the type of diet McIlroy follows.
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed Protein+ Bar Macros
Fat — 16 grams
Carbs — 23 grams
Fiber: 3 grams
Sugar: 10 grams
Added sugar: 5 grams
Protein — 15 grams
Calories — 280
In a Golf Digest interview, McIlroy shared that his diet was “not good ” during his youth, but this compelled him to “reassess what [he] was doing” regarding his choices of “fried food, burgers, pizza, and soda.”
Part of that reassessment was ensuring he hit his daily protein intake of 180 grams and eating protein before carbs since he discovered his blood sugar responded better to that sequence. (2)
Carbs and fat vary day-to-day. If I’m getting adequate protein, everything else falls into place.
—Rory McIlroy
Quality ingredients are among the elements that “fall into place.” The Transparent Labs Protein+ Bar McIlroy munched on comprised only 10 ingredients, all of which you’d recognize:
Peanut Butter
Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips
Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate
Dates
Tapioca Syrup
Egg White Protein
Gluten-Free Rolled Oats
Coconut Oil
Sea Salt

Among our favorite protein bars, the Transparent Labs Protein+ Bar packs plenty of protein per serving and uses only grass-fed whey, alongside other clean ingredients.
Even on the cusp of completing a career milestone, McIlroy understood the importance of hitting his macros and nourishing his body with quality ingredients that wouldn’t aggravate his gluten sensitivity or disrupt his digestion with dairy.
The “Masters Champion Starters Pack” starts with a hunger to win and an even bigger literal hunger to satisfy.
