The first is yes, if you do this in your living room, and yes you can do this in your garage, it is the simple most stupidest exercise ever for your neck and your lower back. Because if you’re over the age of 35, and you’re like us, over 40, then you need to be moving differently. And we’re to show you that right now. First the traditional sit-up. You see we have a dumbbell sitting over here. We’re going to use that in a second. Traditional sit up, see this?
Hands behind your head, coming up feet are on the ground, and then when she goes back, now what’s happening here? She’s putting stress on the back of her neck and putting a lot of stress on her lower back. Absolutely not.
OK, watch this. You don’t need any weights for this. OK so you see how she’s putting her hands under her butt here? All right, that is OK. The reason why she’s doing that is because it takes the pressure off the lower, right here right here on your back, OK. When you’re laying on the ground, especially if it’s hard, it’s going to put a lot of pressure on your spine. This helps relieve that.
Then she’s got her position here. Now scissor is going to be over and under, over, and under. This is triggering all your core muscles, firing all your abs, your obliques, and at the same time using all the muscles from the bottom of the glutes all the way to the top of the pecs. OK? So this is what you would do. See how she’s going over top, underneath, over top, underneath. That’s what I want you to replace that stupid, traditional sit up with as of today. OK you promise?
All right, perfect. Thank you so much. Now the next 1 is going to be she’s going to stay in this position. The worst is not only the traditional sit up, but now she’s going to grab this dumbbell. This is extremely bad. Listen to me, OK? This is 100 times worse than doing a regular sit up.
Now she has this dumbbell. This could be a medicine ball. This could be a plated weight. Any weight that you’re using to do, that again, into the sit up position, let’s go ahead show. Come up and then she raises, then raises this above the head.
Now all down in here in the lower back and your spine, it is the worst ever, because you have no support. Now I hear you. You might be triggering core muscles, but trust me go back in 1 more position for me. Go right back up 1 more time. Watch this. Coming up, boom. That lower back, your L4 and L5 area is struggling to do this exercise.
And I want you to stop doing this exercise because it’s the worst of the 2 for you. I’m going to tell you for injuries, you don’t want to do it. Now let’s show them what we’re going to do instead. So put that to the side. Thank you, Veronica.
Next is going to be, it’s a bicycle. But we’re going to do a left, right, touch. Which also engages your obliques. Here we go. So now, raise legs up off the ground. Get them at 90 degrees. Right? 90 degrees. Now your hands are going to come up as you bicycle. And you touch. See this? Look. Right hand, left foot. Left hand, right foot. Very simple.
And then, the back of the neck, you’re going to put your tip of your fingers on the back of your neck. Not your whole hand, OK? If you do that, it’ll keep the pressure off and just raise your neck just a little bit, or you can lay it on the ground. It’s up to you because in the end, ultimately, these exercises, they will work. And it will help you get that flat belly. You can rest now. She’s amazing. Is it burning? It’s burning. It’s burning.
