“I Never Give Up” — Qinwen Zheng completes Incredible US Open Comeback

Published

on

Qinwen Zheng pulled off one of the biggest comebacks of the US Open, fighting back from 0-5 down in the deciding set to beat Madison Keys 1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 and reach the fourth round.

Zheng saved a match point before winning the final seven games of the match. The victory comes after the elbow surgery that disrupted her career and forced her to come through qualifying in New York.

“I have to say Madison played amazing. I don’t feel like she got up to 5-0 because I played so bad, I just think she played amazing,” Zheng said.

“I kept telling myself keep holding every single point. Never give up. Stay there. And somehow little by little it just happened.”

The Chinese star admitted the comeback felt different from anything she had produced before.

“This is the first time I turned it around from 0-5. Usually before it’s always 1-5 or 2-5. It was a very dramatic match for me. But we both showed really strong tennis.”

Zheng is now into the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in more than a year.

Match fixing concerns? PCB takes Pakistan players’ phones into custody before final England Test | Cricket News

Match fixing concerns? PCB takes Pakistan players’ phones into custody before final England Test

Pakistan’s troubled England tour has taken another unexpected turn, with the Pakistan Cricket Board reportedly taking mobile phones belonging to members of the national team into its custody ahead of the third and final Test at Edgbaston.According to Pakistani 365 News, the players’ devices have been handed over to the PCB and will remain with the board until the conclusion of the final Test. The report did not reveal the identities of the players whose phones were taken, while the PCB has not publicly stated why the devices were placed in its custody. The development has raised questions about the extent of the authorities’ powers over players’ personal devices, particularly regarding when phones can be seized, retained or accessed and what safeguards apply to private communications.

What do ICC rules say about players’ mobile phones?

Mobile phones are already subject to strict restrictions in international cricket, particularly inside areas designated as restricted during matches.Under the ICC’s Player and Match Officials Area regulations, players and support staff are not permitted to possess or use mobile phones or other communication devices inside restricted areas, including dressing rooms, during an international match.Players are expected to place their devices in secure storage before entering such areas. The primary purpose of these regulations is to protect the integrity of international matches and prevent unauthorised communication. However, those match-day restrictions are separate from a situation in which a player’s personal phone is retained for an extended period. The ICC Anti-Corruption Code gives authorised anti-corruption officials considerably broader powers when a formal integrity investigation is underway.Under the code, an authorised anti-corruption official can make a written demand requiring a participant to surrender a mobile device or allow investigators to copy or download information from it when there are reasonable grounds to believe the material could be relevant to an investigation. The information potentially covered by such a request is wide-ranging. It can include telephone and internet records, text messages, WhatsApp conversations, photographs, videos, audio files and other electronically stored documents.Participants can also be required to provide passwords or access codes needed by investigators to obtain the relevant material.A failure to comply with a legitimate demand during an anti-corruption investigation can itself result in disciplinary action.

No confirmation of corruption investigation

Despite the ICC’s provisions, the reported decision by the PCB to take possession of the players’ phones does not, by itself, establish that an anti-corruption investigation is taking place. There has been no confirmation that the PCB’s action in England is connected to an integrity investigation involving corruption, betting or match-fixing. No player has been publicly accused of an integrity offence either. There is also a distinction between the ICC’s jurisdiction and the authority of national cricket boards. For international cricket, the ICC’s Integrity Unit has primary authority under the global Anti-Corruption Code, while national boards generally have direct anti-corruption jurisdiction over domestic competitions. The PCB could also have separate powers arising from player contracts, team regulations or internal disciplinary procedures. However, the board has not publicly cited any such provision as the reason for the latest move.

Another setback on a chaotic England tour

The phone controversy comes at a particularly difficult stage of Pakistan’s tour of England. After heavy defeats in the opening two Tests, the PCB overhauled the squad mid-series. Seven players were sent back to Pakistan, and the coaching staff was reshuffled ahead of the Edgbaston finale. Test coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has been replaced by Mike Hesson, who will oversee Pakistan in the third and final Test. The decision to place players’ mobile phones in PCB custody adds another unusual development to an already turbulent tour. For now, however, the precise reason behind the move remains unclear. Until the PCB provides an explanation, it cannot be established whether the phone custody is linked to an internal disciplinary matter, team regulations or any formal integrity-related process.

LIVE: Alex Eala vs Iva Jovic – US Open 2026 third round

MANILA, Philippines–Alex Eala congratulated Iva Jovic with a hug following their epic US Open third-round clash, smiled, and waved to the crowd in a graceful exit at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday.

The smile eventually wore off as Eala tried to hold back her tears the moment she reached the arena’s tunnel.

Eala came so close to reaching the last 16 in Flushing Meadows, but crumbled late in a heartbreaking 5-7, 6-3, 5-7 loss to her close friend and budding rival under the bright lights of the world’s largest tennis stadium.

The 21-year-old Filipino sensation was on the verge of a stunning victory, leading 4-2 with all the momentum on her side and the crowd rallying behind her.

But the World No. 14 Jovic showed steely nerves to outlast Eala, whom she has now beaten for the third time in as many meetings this season.

“I don’t even know what to say; that felt like a marathon, and I felt like I lost my sanity five times over to win that match, but it’s really worth it for this feeling,” said an emotional Jovic, who displayed maturity beyond her years.

“I’m usually not one that shows that many emotions, but this one really meant a lot to me. It’s everything to have another match at the US Open,” the 18-year-old American added.

Navy vs. Towson live stream, where to watch online, CBS Sports Network channel finder, odds

Published

on

The 2026 college football season gets underway in full on Saturday with Week 1 action, and on CBS Sports Network that means a quadruple header of teams getting their seasons underway.

This week’s slate begins on Saturday with Army kicking off its season at home against Bryant, as the Black Knights look to build off a solid 2025 season. Following that will be Navy getting its season started by hosting Towson in Annapolis, with the Midshipmen hoping for another strong campaign after going 11-2 in 2025.

After the service academies get things started, the action shifts west for the evening. Utah State hosts Idaho State in their first game as a member of the new-look Pac-12, and then Nevada hosts Western Kentucky in the nightcap in what is expected to be a highly competitive battle between quality Group of 6 squads.

CBS Sports Network will carry all four games, with full viewing info, betting lines and key storylines to follow as Week 14 unfolds.

Nevada vs. Western Kentucky

Date: Saturday, Sept. 5 | Time: 10:30 p.m.
Location: Mackay Stadium — Reno, Nevada
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App

The nightcap is, on paper, the most competitive game of the day. The Wolf Pack will be short home underdogs to the Hilltoppers, as Big Red comes rolling into Reno for a CUSA-Mountain West showdown. Carter Jones is back for another year under center for the Pack, who are looking to improve on a 3-9 campaign last season, but will have.a stiff challenge on their hands in the opener. Tyson Helton’s squad won nine games in 2025 and will turn things over full time to Rodney Tisdale Jr. as quarterback, albeit with some fresh faces around him at the skill positions. This is a big game for both teams, as the Hilltoppers want to prove themselves as a threat again in Conference USA, while Nevada needs to build some confidence to try and take a leap into bowl eligibility.

Obucci chasing dry ground and city success in Adelaide 2026

Published

on

The Phillip and Tommy Stokes stable has dispatched Obucci to Adelaide, hoping to secure another metropolitan victory.

Obucci is scheduled to contest the Adelaide Galvanising Industries Handicap (1250m) at Morphettville Parks on Saturday, with Noel Callow taking the reins.

Phillip Stokes confirmed that Obucci was sent from their Pakenham stable to their Morphettville base in search of firmer ground conditions.

The filly began her career in Stakes company in Adelaide, finishing unplaced, before transferring to Melbourne. There, she suffered a defeat at Benalla first-up and later won a 1300m maiden at Sandown in October last year.

Stokes was ‘aggressive’ with Obucci, aiming for Caulfield during their Cup Carnival, but she faced a strong field of three-year-old fillies in a race won by Point Barrow.

Following one more race, Obucci was given a break and did not return until July on a heavy track at Sandown, finishing in the second half of the field.

“She needs a dry track,” Stokes commented.

“I took her to Sandown, and she didn’t like the wet track, so we put her back on the synthetic where she won (at Pakenham) and then ran second.

“If she gets a dry track, she’ll be around the mark. We’re happy with how she’s going and she should be very competitive.

“It’s the right sort of race to try and get another city win on the board.”

Stokes added that the stable has been pleased to support Callow, who has been based in Adelaide since completing a suspension.

Callow returned to riding at the start of the new season and has ridden four winners from 37 rides since his comeback.

“He’s been coming in for quite a while and helping us,” Stokes said.

“His feedback has been good and he’s a revitalised Noel Callow.

“He’s having a crack at it which is good and we’re happy to have him on our horses.”

In addition to Obucci, Callow is also booked to ride Cosmic Shower, Princess Painton, and Divergent for the Stokes team.

Given the conditions Obucci prefers, she appears a strong chance in the Adelaide Galvanising Industries Handicap this Saturday; consider the betting markets for the race.

Green Spaces building towards spring targets after Derby win in 2026

Published

on

Currently the early favourite for the Caulfield Cup and with expectations of performing strongly over longer distances, jockey Rachel King suggests Green Spaces could cause an upset in the Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick.

The Australian Derby winner was seen finishing strongly when eighth behind Autumn Glow in the Winx Stakes (1400m) last month. While the mile distance of the Chelmsford Stakes is considered short of his optimum, he did demonstrate his capability by winning Newcastle’s Spring Stakes over the same trip as a three-year-old.

King, who rode him on that occasion, indicated that the entire remains a viable chance of winning this weekend.

“I wouldn’t be surprised,” King said.

“I know it was only a Spring Stakes at Newcastle, but he did win that over a mile convincingly so he can do it over this distance. It’s obviously a different gravy against these types of horses, but the way he ran first-up against those really top class weight-for-age horses, he’s in for a really good ‘prep’.”

With Attica now a scratching and scheduled to run in the Tramway Stakes (1400m), Green Spaces will face a field of eight competitors in the Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), including Ceolwulf, Fangirl, and last year’s winner Lindermann.

King anticipates that Green Spaces will have a less taxing run from his inside draw, allowing him to produce his best in the latter stages of the race.

“He’ll appreciate stepping up in trip and it’s a slightly easier field. He’s not against some of the superstars like he was first-up, but there are still good horses in it,” she stated.

“Drawn a nicer gate as well makes it a little bit easier. He’s building up towards his pet distance, not quite there yet, but I think he can still run a good race on Saturday.”

King is booked for rides in nine of the ten races at Randwick, with four of those being for Green Spaces’ trainer, Bjorn Baker, including the filly Rachini in the Furious Stakes (1400m).

Blind Raise kicks off 2026 Caulfield Guineas tilt at Sandown

Published

on

The connections of Blind Raise hold aspirations of the colt being a major player in upcoming spring features, with his campaign set to commence at Sandown.

The Listed McKenzie Stakes (1300m) on Saturday is seen as a potential stepping stone to a Group 1 contest, or possibly two, in Melbourne and Sydney.

The Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10 and the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick two weeks later are on the radar for the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained galloper.

However, the colt must first navigate Saturday’s event successfully.

Busuttin noted that the distance at Sandown was a key factor in the decision to use it as a starting point.

The meeting on Saturday is a Moonee Valley Racing Club fixture. Had the race been held at The Valley, it would have been run over 1200 metres.

With the track undergoing a rebuild, the fixture has been moved to Sandown.

“He’s forward enough to run well,” Busuttin said.

“If this race was 1200 metres, we’d be waiting for the Mike Moroney (1400m at Flemington on Saturday week), so the way it has fallen, 1300 metres at Sandown, it’s perfect first-up. He’ll be strong late.”

Blind Raise won his first two starts, both over 1400m, before venturing to Queensland where he finished midfield in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

“He pulled up full of mucus up there,” Busuttin stated.

“It was too bad to be true, so we didn’t push on and he had a month off up there. If they’re running in Queensland, they can only have two or three weeks off, but it appears to help them being up there. Years ago, everyone used to do it, and for whatever reason people stopped, but now they’ve gone back to doing it. Does it do them any good, I don’t know. If they’re a good horse, they can come from anywhere.”

Busuttin is eager to discover the true calibre of Blind Raise this campaign.

He indicated that the Caulfield Guineas is the logical race to aim for.

“But you have to get there,” Busuttin added.

“The Caulfield Guineas, then the Spring Champion Stakes, that might be a nice race for him, but in a perfect world, he will end up in the Caulfield Guineas.”

US Open 2026 results: Coco Gauff wins but Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys out

Published

on

Keys appeared on course for a first fourth-round appearance at her home slam since 2023 after taking a commanding third set lead against Olympic champion Zheng.

But the 2025 Australian Open winner would miss a match point and lose each of the final seven games in a 1-6 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 loss that stunned the crowd.

The 31-year-old Keys said she felt as though she “couldn’t play tennis anymore” in the final set.

“I obviously got off to a really good lead, and then I got really scared, like I couldn’t swing [the racquet],” Keys said.

“I felt like I couldn’t play tennis anymore. It just felt like it was a much bigger deal than just playing a tennis match all of a sudden.”

Keys, who lost the 2017 US Open final to fellow American Sloane Stephens, went out in the fourth round at the other three majors in 2026.

“I feel like I’ve been struggling for a while now. I’m going to have to make some sort of changes,” Keys said.

“I just kind of keep putting it off because that’s how the tennis world works. It’s just to the point where I actually need to do something about it.”

Anisimova, beaten by world number one Aryna Sabalenka in last year’s US Open final, lost in straight sets to Russian-born Austrian 24th seed Anastasia Potapova.

The 25-year-old was visibly frustrated with herself throughout the contest, losing her serve twice in the first set and four times in a topsy-turvy second.

Katie Taylor ecstatic after perfect end to ‘dream career’

Published

on

Katie Taylor acclaimed becoming a three-time undisputed world champion in her farewell fight at Croke Park as the most special moment of her decorated career.

Taylor outclassed Flora Pili in a unanimous points victory in front of a crowd of 80,000 to ensure her three decades as an amateur and professional boxer ended in fairytale fashion.

Wild celebrations followed the announcement she had overwhelmed the previously unbeaten Pili 100-90 100-90 98-91 on the scorecards.

For Taylor the feeling of signing off in front of her fans bettered winning Olympic gold at London 2012, headlining Madison Square Garden and her trilogy against Amanda Serrano.

The 40-year-old said: “This was definitely the highlight of my whole career.

“I didn’t think anything could get bigger than London 2012 and then MSG came along.

“I didn’t think anything could get bigger than that first fight with Serrano and then here we are at Croke Park.

“I ended my career on top, like every athlete wants to do, on my terms, and I ended it as the undisputed champion.

“That’s exactly how I wanted it to end. It was so important to me all along to end my career well.”

Taylor thrilled Croke Park with a spine tingling ring walk and also delivered in the ring by outclassing Pili across all 10 rounds.

She finished the fight by launching an all-out assault in the final 10 seconds that was roared on by the crowd and once the bell sounded, she smiled and hugged her opponent knowing she had thrown her final shots.

Taylor said: “This night was everything I expected and more. Thankfully I was able to hold my emotions together because I was getting emotional all week speaking about this event.

“And over the last few months, the preparation for this has been so emotional. But the atmosphere was so special. It was beyond my wildest dreams. It was unbelievable.

“What an amazing night. Looking back on an amazing career, this was just a dream ending to a dream career for me. What a way to end.

“I don’t think there’s another country in the world that would sell 80,000 tickets for a female athlete. I’m convinced Ireland was the only country that would actually do that.

“What a way to end this amazing journey. I started off this career and I had the dream of becoming an Olympic champion.

“I achieved that, but then these last 10 years have been beyond my wildest dreams. It’s been a remarkable 10 years.”

Where to watch Ole Miss vs. Louisville : TV channel, stream, prediction, picks, odds, spread

Published

on

The only game on the  Week 1 schedule featuring two teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 pits No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 24 Louisville for a Sunday night showdown at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. It marks an immediate and massive test for two established programs with College Football Playoff aspirations but unforgiving schedules.

Louisville is a rare team with 11 Power Four opponents on its slate, and Ole Miss faces an unforgiving league grind during the SEC’s first season with a nine-game conference schedule. Thus, the stakes will be high for a meeting between two teams with major offensive expectations.

Ole Miss coach Pete Golding retained star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and standout running back Kewan Lacy amid the transition away from coach Lane Kiffin. Those two spearheaded the Rebels’ charge to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff last season and have designs on making another deep postseason push.

Louisville finished 9-4 last season, but the Cardinals were left to wonder what could have been following a 7-1 start that included a road win over then-No. 2 Miami. November losses to Cal and Clemson by a combined four points wrecked the Cardinals’ hopes of a truly special season and should serve as motivation entering 2026.

Follow along for LIVE updates as Clemson and LSU start the season with a heavyweight clash.

How to watch Ole Miss vs. Louisville live

Date: Sunday, Sept. 6 | Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
Location: Nissan Stadium — Nashville, Tennessee
TV: ABC | Live stream: Fubo (Start watching, save $20!)

Ole Miss vs. Louisville: Need to know

The Kienholz factor: Louisville’s expectations of an elite passing game didn’t quite pan out like expected last year with USC transfer Miller Moss at quarterback. His production tapered off significantly in the season’s second half, and Louisville’s running game wasn’t good enough to make up the difference. Fourth-year coach Jeff Brohm went back to the portal in 2026 to land ex-Ohio State backup Lincoln Kienholz. The former four-star prospect was edged by Julian Saying in a quarterback battle last year and is raring for his first starting opportunity as a redshirt junior. He’s expected to bring an element of elusiveness to the Louisville offense that quarterbacks in Brohm’s system don’t always have.

Brohm has the upset gene: In each of his three seasons at Louisville, the Cardinals have slayed a top-11 opponent. Last season, it was No. 2 Miami. In 2024, it was No. 11 Clemson, and in 2023, Louisville knocked off No. 10 Notre Dame. The trend goes back to Brohm’s Purdue tenure, when the Boilermakers slayed a pair of top-5 opponents in 2021 (Iowa and Michigan State) after stunning No. 2 Ohio State in 2018. As a veteran coach who’s had an entire offseason to implement a game plan for Ole Miss, expect to see some creativity from Brohm as the Cardinals try for another head-turning victory.

Establishing new targets: Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss enters the season with legitimate Heisman Trophy aspirations after totaling nearly 4,500 yards from scrimmage last season. But he’ll be throwing to a mostly new group of targets in 2026. Who will step up? Deuce Alexander is the leading returning target after reeling in 44 passes for 684 yards last season. After that, it will be on a group of transfers. Among them are Darrell Gill Jr. and Johnny Cook II (both from Syracuse), Isaiah Spencer (Virginia Tech) and Cameron Reed (Kentucky). Gill and Cook each surpassed 500 yards receiving within a weak Syracuse passing attack last season and should flourish within a better system. But whether the Rebels’ passing attack can click immediately may determine how this Week 1 showdown pans out.

Ole Miss vs. Louisville prediction, picks

Ole Miss has a savvy veteran playmaker at quarterback who led the Rebels to key victories in major moments last season. Simply put, it’s not smart to bet against someone like Trinidad Chambliss, even if the Rebels are breaking in new receivers and two new offensive tackles. Louisville’s defense will be tested as they seek to contain Chambliss and star running back Kewan Lacy, and the Rebels should eventually be able to break the dam to build a two-possession lead. Pick: Ole Miss -7
