Jack Draper spoke from the heart after storming into the ATP top 10 for the first time after defeating world No 3 Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells.

“Relief, joy, just a huge feeling of big emotion,” said Draper following the match.
He acknowledged his challenging journey, adding: “I’ve been through a lot in my few years with playing and especially the last ones with some injuries and a lot of hard work to always try and get back to a decent level.”
His triumph over Alcaraz represents a significant breakthrough against one of tennis’s elite players.

Draper enjoyed a positive campaign last year, lifting titles in Stuttgart and Vienna while reaching the US Open semi-finals.
However, his journey hasn’t been without challenges. He missed the 2025 season-opening United Cup due to hip problems.
He later described the tendinitis as a “ticking time bomb” after retiring against Alcaraz at the Australian Open.
“It was my goal at the end of last year that I obviously had some good results, but I want to really achieve some consistency and get to the point where I’m pushing these top players,” Draper said.
Looking ahead to his Masters 1000 final against Rune, Draper is focused on recovery and preparation.
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow already. I’ll make sure I look after my recovery,” Draper said.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, admitted the defeat was particularly painful for him.
“I mean, this one hurts. I don’t want to lose any match, but I think this one was even more special to me,” the Spaniard said.

“What could I have done better? Just to play my style and, you know, stepping on the court with less nerves. I think that was a big difference.”
