Darts referee Huw Ware has described calling Luke Littler’s record-breaking nine-darter in Cardiff as one of the greatest moments of his career.

The official was on duty during Thursday’s Premier League Darts night seven final when the 18-year-old sensation achieved the perfect leg against Michael van Gerwen.

Ware, who hails from Cardiff, struggled to contain his emotions as the Utilita Arena crowd erupted in celebration of Littler’s extraordinary feat.

The historic moment came during Littler’s 6-4 victory over the Dutch star and the nine-darter marked the third televised perfect leg of his career.

“The Nuke” secured his third leg of the match with a clinical T20, T17 and D15 finish.

The achievement was particularly notable as it made history, becoming the first televised nine-darter to conclude on double 15.

Following the remarkable moment, Ware took to social media platform X to express his gratitude.

“Not that this is about me, but calling a nine-darter in my home city is right up there with my career highlights,” he wrote.

The referee added: “Well done @LukeTheNuke180.”

For Ware, the significance of officiating such a historic moment was amplified by it taking place in Cardiff, his hometown.

The referee’s struggle to maintain his composure highlighted just how special Littler’s achievement was for everyone in attendance.

“But to come here and win, six points clear as you’ve just seen, so now I’m comfortable.”

The victory in Cardiff marked Littler’s third Premier League win of the season.
