The only game on the  Week 1 schedule featuring two teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 pits No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 24 Louisville for a Sunday night showdown at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. It marks an immediate and massive test for two established programs with College Football Playoff aspirations but unforgiving schedules.

Louisville is a rare team with 11 Power Four opponents on its slate, and Ole Miss faces an unforgiving league grind during the SEC’s first season with a nine-game conference schedule. Thus, the stakes will be high for a meeting between two teams with major offensive expectations.

Ole Miss coach Pete Golding retained star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and standout running back Kewan Lacy amid the transition away from coach Lane Kiffin. Those two spearheaded the Rebels’ charge to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff last season and have designs on making another deep postseason push.

Louisville finished 9-4 last season, but the Cardinals were left to wonder what could have been following a 7-1 start that included a road win over then-No. 2 Miami. November losses to Cal and Clemson by a combined four points wrecked the Cardinals’ hopes of a truly special season and should serve as motivation entering 2026.

Ole Miss vs. Louisville: Need to know

The Kienholz factor: Louisville’s expectations of an elite passing game didn’t quite pan out like expected last year with USC transfer Miller Moss at quarterback. His production tapered off significantly in the season’s second half, and Louisville’s running game wasn’t good enough to make up the difference. Fourth-year coach Jeff Brohm went back to the portal in 2026 to land ex-Ohio State backup Lincoln Kienholz. The former four-star prospect was edged by Julian Saying in a quarterback battle last year and is raring for his first starting opportunity as a redshirt junior. He’s expected to bring an element of elusiveness to the Louisville offense that quarterbacks in Brohm’s system don’t always have. 

Brohm has the upset gene: In each of his three seasons at Louisville, the Cardinals have slayed a top-11 opponent. Last season, it was No. 2 Miami. In 2024, it was No. 11 Clemson, and in 2023, Louisville knocked off No. 10 Notre Dame. The trend goes back to Brohm’s Purdue tenure, when the Boilermakers slayed a pair of top-5 opponents in 2021 (Iowa and Michigan State) after stunning No. 2 Ohio State in 2018. As a veteran coach who’s had an entire offseason to implement a game plan for Ole Miss, expect to see some creativity from Brohm as the Cardinals try for another head-turning victory.

Establishing new targets: Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss enters the season with legitimate Heisman Trophy aspirations after totaling nearly 4,500 yards from scrimmage last season. But he’ll be throwing to a mostly new group of targets in 2026. Who will step up? Deuce Alexander is the leading returning target after reeling in 44 passes for 684 yards last season. After that, it will be on a group of transfers. Among them are Darrell Gill Jr. and Johnny Cook II (both from Syracuse), Isaiah Spencer (Virginia Tech) and Cameron Reed (Kentucky). Gill and Cook each surpassed 500 yards receiving within a weak Syracuse passing attack last season and should flourish within a better system. But whether the Rebels’ passing attack can click immediately may determine how this Week 1 showdown pans out.

Ole Miss has a savvy veteran playmaker at quarterback who led the Rebels to key victories in major moments last season. Simply put, it’s not smart to bet against someone like Trinidad Chambliss, even if the Rebels are breaking in new receivers and two new offensive tackles. Louisville’s defense will be tested as they seek to contain Chambliss and star running back Kewan Lacy, and the Rebels should eventually be able to break the dam to build a two-possession lead. Pick: Ole Miss -7

India produced a dominant all-round performance to thrash Pakistan by seven wickets in their Group A clash of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.After Pakistan opted to bat first, India’s spinners ran riot, bowling them out for just 55 in 18.1 overs, their lowest-ever total in T20Is. India then chased down the modest target in only 8.4 overs, reaching 57/3 with 68 balls to spare.The victory saw India finish the group stage at the top of Group A, having already sealed their semi-final spot with wins over Thailand and Hong Kong.

Pakistan collapse under India’s spin attack

Pakistan never found their footing after being asked to bat. Shawaal Zulfiqar top-scored with 14, while Muneeba Ali made 13, but no other batter managed to offer sustained resistance. India’s spin attack was relentless. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat claimed three wickets apiece, while Deepti Sharma picked up two. Shafali Verma also chipped in with a wicket as India’s spinners accounted for all 10 Pakistan wickets.Charani returned excellent figures of 3/7 from four overs, while Rawat finished with 3/9. Deepti was equally economical, conceding just five runs for her two wickets. Pakistan’s collapse was particularly dramatic after they lost six wickets for just 15 runs, leaving them struggling at the bottom of the innings. Their 55 all out marked their lowest total in T20I cricket.

Shafali gives India flying start

India’s chase began aggressively, with Shafali Verma smashing 12 off just six balls, including a six. She also crossed the landmark of 3,000 T20I runs during her brief stay at the crease.Fatima Sana provided Pakistan with their only real resistance, dismissing Shafali, Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana to finish with impressive figures of 3/17. Despite those breakthroughs, the target was far too small to give Pakistan any genuine hope.Captain Harmanpreet Kaur held the chase together and finished unbeaten on 18 off 18 balls. She completed the victory in style, hitting a six as India reached 57/3 in 8.4 overs. The result extended India’s overall T20I head-to-head advantage over Pakistan to 15-3 and their Women’s Asia Cup record to 7-1.More importantly, India finished the group stage in pole position and head into the semi-finals without any loss.

He was one of the top big-play receivers in the league last year, finishing second in the league with an average of 21.3 yards per reception. He finished the year as a top-25 Fantasy WR with a 47-1003-6 receiving line, cashing in on a four-year, $114 million contract extension. 

He is rehabbing an ankle injury in camp and the Colts added veteran Keenan Allen, which are some of the reasons that he’s slipped to an ADP of around No. 75 overall after starting near No. 70. Now he joins a Kansas City backfield without a lot of competition, and he’s going off the board at pick No. 16 overall on average in Fantasy drafts, up three slots in recent days.

Andy Reid’s pass-first offense hasn’t been friendly to running backs, however, from a Fantasy standpoint as no Kansas City back has cleared 1,000 yards on the ground since 2017. Walker also brings some injury risk after missing at least one game in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Former world champion Barry Jones picked out the final 20 seconds, when Taylor produced the kind of rapid combinations which defined so many of her biggest fights.

“That’s what you really remember about her,” he said on the Dazn broadcast.

“Those rallies of big punches, combinations and that’s how she finished her last fight.”

American Mikaela Mayer – who was also ringside – was struck by the final image of Taylor placing her gloves in the centre of the ring.

“I was sitting there watching her put her gloves in the centre of the ring and it’s like a story,” she said.

Taylor had long dreamed of fighting at Croke Park and had made clear she wanted the stadium to stage the final chapter of her career.

Bellew said there was “no way” Taylor would return to boxing, although he could see her remaining involved by mentoring younger fighters.

“She will always be there to give her advice, speak to her and help her,” he said.

“But ultimately she will sail off into the sunset and who could possibly deserve it more.”

Metropolitan hopeful Thebudgiesmugla is undefeated in five attempts over 2400 metres and will seek to make it six when he contests the Drinkwise Cup at Randwick.

The six-year-old was a revelation of the off-season, winning three of his four starts between May and July. These victories included the Winter Cup at Randwick and the Caloundra Cup in Queensland, both contested over the same distance as Saturday’s race.

With the benefit of a recent fourth-place finish behind Boniface over a middle distance, Thebudgiesmugla is expected to be a strong contender at Randwick.

“He was great first-up and he’s five from five at the 2400 and gets 2400 again on Saturday,” trainer Bjorn Baker’s racing manager, Luke Hilton, remarked.

“It wasn’t always in our mind to run Saturday. We were going to give him a bit of time into the Newcastle Cup, but this race came up, and it looked so good for him we decided to run him.”

“He is obviously a bit better with his toe in the ground, but he’s putting together some good performances on better ground as well.”

Thebudgiesmugla is currently positioned on the fourth line of early markets for The Metropolitan at $11 and is the $2.25 top pick for the Drinkwise Cup.

His most significant challenge might come from stablemate So You Are.

So You Are, a recent addition to the Baker stable, was less than a length behind Thebudgiesmugla in both the Winter and Caloundra Cups. Furthermore, So You Are finished ahead of his stablemate in their last starts.

However, Hilton suspects that the horse, known colloquially as “Thebudgie”, possesses more scope for improvement.

“So You Are had a little bit more residual fitness than TheBudgie first-up,” he stated.

“He’s going to strip a bit fitter as well, but I’d say TheBudgie has got a bit more improvement to come.”

Interestingly, Baker only achieved his first city winner of the season on Wednesday with Appeared at Warwick Farm. The leading trainer had experienced a challenging start to the new term, with seven second-place finishes, two of which were recorded by the speedy filly Blue Door in stakes races.

Betting markets for the race are already heating up at Australian betting sites.

Kidambi Srikanth’s run at the China Masters Super 750 came to an end in the quarterfinals here on Friday as the former world No.1 was outplayed in straight games by Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu.

The 33-year-old Indian, who had shown flashes of his vintage best while finishing runner-up at the US Open Super 300 earlier this year, went down 16-21, 16-21 to the 25th-ranked Lee Cheuk in a 39-minute contest.

Srikanth had looked sharp in the previous round, dispatching world No.9 Victor Lai of Canada 21-18, 21-19 in the Round of 16.

But against Lee Cheuk, the Indian found himself chasing the game for long stretches, particularly after surrendering the momentum midway through the opening game.

Srikanth made a brisk start, racing to a 3-0 lead, but Lee Cheuk was quick to settle into a rhythm. The Hong Kong shuttler reeled off three points to level at 3-3 before turning the screws with a six-point burst that took him to 14-6.

Srikanth tried to claw his way back, but the deficit proved too steep as Lee Cheuk kept his composure to pocket the opening game.

The second game produced a much tighter battle. Srikanth again came out firing, moving 4-0 ahead, only for Lee Cheuk to draw level at 4-4. Thereafter, the rallies grew longer and the margins thinner, with the lead changing hands several times as the two traded points all the way to 15-15.

Just when Srikanth appeared to be within touching distance, Lee Cheuk found another gear. He strung together three points to surge 18-15 ahead and then shut the door with another three-point burst, wrapping up the match in straight games.

Lee Cheuk, 30, who had produced one of his standout performances at the Singapore Open in May, recovering from a difficult position to stun All England champion Lin Chun-yi, will next face world No.2 Christo Popov of France in the semifinals.

If the Vikings fizzle in the upcoming season, then change will be afoot. 3 Vikings stand out above the rest.

Most notably, there’s going to be the quarterback position to consider. Does anyone within the quartet — Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz, and Max Brosmer — get kept around in the event of underperformance? Others from within the organization seem like candidates to take off if there isn’t true success in the upcoming season.

3 Vikings Set to Depart if 2026 Flops

No. 1 — WR Justin Jefferson

Not very often, folks, does a receiver who is so tremendous show so much patience.

There’s no sense of exaggeration when saying that Justin Jefferson is a historic talent. What he has done in his opening six seasons has been phenomenal — the yards most prominently — especially since the passers have been so varied.

Presumably, there’s going to be an expiration date on his patience. Jefferson is moving into his seventh NFL season and has yet to win a playoff game. The pair of good passers in his career, Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold, have been allowed to walk. There’s a pile of pressure on the Vikings to get things figured out in 2026.

A brutal truth: Jefferson probably should ask out if Minnesota can’t elevate to his level.

No. 2 — HC Kevin O’Connell

Truth be told, Kevin O’Connell is sitting on the hot seat. The Wilfs, like Jefferson, are patient, but they’ll want actual results at some point.

O’Connell can commonly be found doing what a company man does: saying the correct things. He’s good in front of the microphone as he praises the fans and compliments the ownership. So, too, does he make a consistent effort to praise his guys as he maintains an upbeat, positive personality.

The cold reality: he’s 0-2 in the playoffs.

Kevin O’Connell is a good football coach. The Vikings will fire him in a year or two if he can’t show that he’s a great football coach who can win in the playoffs.

No. 3 — A Pile of Veteran Mainstays

Edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel is a football cyborg. He’s moving into the final year of his contract. Extending him after a failed season would be odd given that he’s an older player.

Consider some others working in a contract year:

• CB Isaiah Rodgers
• WR Jauan Jennings
• QB Kyler Murray
• RB Aaron Jones
• TE T.J. Hockenson
• C Blake Brandel
• LB Ivan Pace Jr.
• RB Jordan Mason

Other players would be plausible cut candidates, such as S Theo Jackson, S Josh Metellus, CB James Pierre, and various others. In short, the final player isn’t a player at all. Rather, the final player is a collection of guys in their prime or a touch later in their careers who could get moved out in favor of a rebuild.
