MANILA, Philippines—National University continued its dominance over University of Santo Tomas on Sunday in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament.

The Bulldogs beat the Golden Spikers for the fourth consecutive time dating back to last year’s Finals after a 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22 win on the final day of eliminations.

“Yesterday, we found out that the game would have no bearing, but I told my players that no matter what happens, we should still set our mindset to win because the victory we get here, we can carry into the Final Four,” said NU coach Dante Alinsunurin, whose squad also faces UST in the semifinal round.

“They responded well, although there were some set plays or plays that changed today, but at least we were still able to adjust to what UST did.”

The Bulldogs notched their sixth straight win to end the elimination round with a 12-2 record.

Jade Disquitado powered the Bulldogs with 23 points while Leo Ordiales added 15.

Josh Ybañez finished with 20 points for third seed UST, which wrapped up the eliminations at 9-5.

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines squeaked past Adamson in a thriller, 21-25, 19-25, 25-11, 25-12, 15-12.

Despite not having any more chances for a Final Four spot, the Fighting Maroons still showed up to fight and ended the season at 4-10. The Soaring Falcons, meanwhile, finished with a 2-12 record.

“Ever since we found out that the season was over for us, we made it our mindset that this season would be our foundation going into the next one,” said UP coach Carlo Cabatingan.

Olayemi Raheem had 19 points while rookie Tommy Castrodes tallied UP with 16 points and 13 excellent receptions for the Fighting Maroons, who only won four games against 10 losses.

Jude Aguilar scored 15 while Dan Gutierrez chipped in 13 points for Adamson (2-12).
