CROMVOIRT, Netherlands — When stats guru Justin Ray first starts to put potential pairings together, he takes the names and faces away and simply looks at the data. Allisen Corpuz’s incredible accuracy off the tee, coupled with Nelly Korda’s world-class approach play, seemed like a no-brainer to Ray. Add in Corpuz’s cool-headed, comfortable approach to the spotlight, and it was a partnership 2023 U.S. captain Stacy Lewis was keen to put in play.

Now the first duo to win five consecutive matches in Solheim Cup history, Korda and Copuz have anchored a foursomes revolution for the red, white and blue.

“It’s like having an ace at the top of your rotation in major league baseball,” said Ray, who Lewis first brought on to help with the 2023 matches in Spain. It marked the first time the U.S. had ever used a stats-based system to help with the Solheim Cup, a practice that’s been done for years at the Ryder Cup.

Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr are preparing two colts for the Poseidon Stakes at Flemington, with the trainers eyeing more significant spring carnival targets.

This Saturday’s 1100-metre dash down the Flemington straight is expected to serve as a lead-up to the Danehill Stakes (1100m) on October 3, the Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 17, and the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington two weeks later.

Price noted that Big Sky possesses the class edge over his stablemate Buggsy, but Buggsy’s fighting spirit could take him far.

“My man, Henry Jaggard, who rides a lot of my good ones and a lot of the Freedman’s good ones, he’s a very good judge,” Price stated.

“He rides Buggsy and he rides Big Sky and he said he would go Big Sky, on class.”

Big Sky has been unbeaten in his two career starts, including a victory down the Flemington straight on debut in January, followed by a win in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield.

He was subsequently scratched from Melbourne’s premier juvenile race, the Blue Diamond Stakes, due to undergoing arthroscopic surgery on a knee.

Price and Kent Jnr have given Big Sky three jump-outs in preparation for his return to racing.

“Big Sky has had three trials knowing that he’s a colt and I want to keep his form good in case someone likes him as a colt,” Price commented.

“His job, all being well will be the Poseidon, the Danehill, the Blue Sapphire and the Coolmore, being a sprinting Bivouac that he is.

“I think it’s a better race for him (than Buggsy) on class and I think Big Sky has improved as a horse.

“As a young horse he wasn’t getting it right but still winning well.”

While Price concedes Big Sky holds the class advantage, he is certain that Buggsy will be up for the fight.

Buggsy scored on debut at Sandown and later ran third in the Redoute’s Choice Stakes at Caulfield in April.

He resumed last month with a victory at Sandown over 1000m.

“The Redoute’s Choice caught him on the way down,” Price recalled.

“I was in two minds whether to run him, and I know he ran third, on paper, but it was not the right Buggsy that ran in that race.

“His tenacity, his fitness, his soundness, his desire, it may get him there.”

Zilla Fatu may be pushed into the WWE main roster very soon

The son of Umaga, Zilla Fatu, may have only just arrived in WWE and is just now making his mark in NXT, but he may be set for a huge push. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Zilla Fatu was doing huge numbers for WWE. He said that his numbers on social media were the biggest NXT had in years and were at the level of Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins. He admitted that they fell short of Oba Femi, Brock Lesnar, or Roman Reigns, but not by that much.

Given his popularity, it appears that WWE could push him into the main roster very soon.

“Whatever it is, you know what I said about freaking Borden, this Zilla Fatu is another one. Whatever it is, it’s like the people just gravitate towards him. So there you go. I mean, like, you know, it’s not just he got a big pop in Full Sail. Lots of guys do that. But I mean, he… I don’t know why he’s a difference maker, but he is. And like the YouTube, you know, the YouTube numbers for his debut were just like the biggest NXT numbers in God knows how long. I mean, they were right up there with, you know, like your Seth Rollins-level guys and your Cody Rhodes and Punk and people like that. That’s how big they were. You know, not Roman Reigns, not Oba Femi, not Brock Lesnar. You know, Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar, like, the biggest by far. But his numbers — on NXT, you know, NXT is like a tenth of the, you know, as far as that type of interest. And so there’s something there with that freaking Zilla Fatu, and I’m sure he’ll be on the main roster relatively soon.”

Thus, another Anoa’i Family member may be on the main roster sooner rather than later.
