Streisand’s 2026 Flemington return on the cards

Published

on

Following a demanding initial season on the track, Streisand is set to make her reappearance at Flemington.

The filly, a previous victor of the Blue Diamond Stakes, will compete as a three-year-old for the first time in Saturday’s Group 3 Cap D’Antibes Stakes, a 1100-metre contest.

This race represents the commencement of trainer Clinton McDonald’s planned three-run spring campaign for the filly, with a greater emphasis placed on autumn racing.

“She had seven starts as a two-year-old, so that’s why we want to give her a light spring, only three runs, and that will set her up for the better sprint races in the autumn,” McDonald explained.

“We don’t want to be hard on her, she’s rewarded us all the way through and being by Magnus, she should get better with age.”

Her Saturday return will be succeeded by the Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on October 10, and then a choice between the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) or the Champions Sprint (1200m) at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.

McDonald mentioned that Streisand has completed a superb preparation for her upcoming run.

“She had 10 weeks in the paddock and has had a nice, easy preparation,” McDonald said.

“She’s not fully wound up for Saturday. It’s not her Grand Final. She will be ridden quiet and will be strong late, and if she can win there, she will be in for a very good spring.”

“She runs on Saturday, then goes to the Schillaci at weight-for-age four weeks later and then into either the Coolmore Stud Stakes or Champions Sprint.”

“If Yulong taps me on the shoulder and say that they have too many colts going there (Coolmore), we’ll go to the Champions Sprint.”

“That’s the beauty of Streisand, she’s adaptable to anything and she’s consistently good at everything she does.”

McDonald also manages the Yulong-owned colt Tales Of Time, who he is hoping will target the Coolmore Stud Stakes after his recent win at Sandown on Wednesday.

The colt’s next scheduled race is expected to be the Danehill Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on October 3.

“It will nearly be the race of the carnival,” McDonald stated. “We think he’s up to that level. He’s been down the straight before and raced very well in the Maribyrnong, and that’s the path we will take with him.”

3 Key Vikings On Defense vs. Packers

Published

on

The Minnesota Vikings start the 2026 season with a home game against their division rivals the Green Bay Packers. After looking at three key Vikings on offense for this game, it’s time to look at the other side of the ball.

3 Key Vikings On Defense vs. Packers

The Brian Flores defense was the strength of this team last year, and while Minnesota will be hoping for better from their offense in 2026. The defense will still have a major role to play. Here are three guys I think will have particularly key roles in this game.

Jalen Redmond

With Josh Jacobs missing for Green Bay, the Packers are left without a major focal point in their offense. Establishing the run is a big part of their offense and without Jacobs, they will have to rely on a mixture of MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and Kaleb Johnson. The Vikings need to shut down this supporting cast of running backs and force the ball into the hands of Packers QB Jordan Love.

As the main man on the interior of the defensive line, Jalen Redmond needs to lead that charge and be dominant in run defense. Redmond has been a revelation since arriving in Minnesota two years ago via a stint in the UFL. If the Vikings are able to stop the run, Redmond will also have a role in getting after the quarterback, such is his ability in both phases of the defense. He is an invaluable player for the Vikings and in his second season as a starter, I hope for him to kick on even further.

Dallas Turner

There is a lot of pressure on Dallas Turner to step up this year. Minnesota showed a lot of faith in their third-year, former first-round pick when they traded away Jonathan Greenard and thrust Turner into position as the team’s leading pass rusher. After a rough rookie season, Turner picked up last year, especially when Greenard was absent through injury, and led the team with eight sacks. The question this year is whether he leads the team for a full season and gets the sack figure into double figures, which is where you’d expect top-tier edge rushers to be.

Sunday sees the first look at Turner as “the guy” and the pressure will be on. He potentially has a favorable matchup as he comes up against a Packers offensive line that has three starters on the injury report this week, including both starting tackles. Lingering injuries that have seen the Packers offensive line unable to compete or practice together over the preseason are a major concern currently in Green Bay. It’s a chance to start the season off with a bang and if Turner can take it, he will put the Vikings well on the way to a victory.

Harrison Smith

He took his time but eventually Harrison Smith came back for his 15th season as a Viking. The Hitman brings a wealth of experience and football intelligence to the Vikings’ defense. The question is what the 37-year-old version of Smith who missed out on all of training camp and preseason looks like. There’s no getting away from the fact that he’s not the player he once was, but can he maintain a reasonable standard in coverage and coming downhill to make tackles or rush the passer?

If he can then his leadership and football IQ will still be an invaluable part of what Flores wants his defense to do. If the Vikings can stop the run then the secondary needs to be sharp against Green Bay’s passing attack. I do expect Smith to slot right back into his every-down role and we will see if he’s still up to it on Sunday.

Blue Jays designate Jesus Sanchez for assignment, select Rudy Martin Jr.

Published

on

A handful of outfield errors have cost Jesus Sanchez his spot on the Toronto Blue Jays‘ roster.

Sanchez was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays, and in a corresponding move, outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. was recalled from triple-A Buffalo, the team announced Friday ahead of a game against the Baltimore Orioles (Sportsnet, 7:07 p.m. ET / 4:07 p.m. PT).

Sanchez, 28, has been a decent bat for the Blue Jays this season, slashing .260/.318/.416 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 99 games, but has an MLB-leading three errors on the season and only a .955 fielding percentage.

Despite the solid offensive production, Sanchez’s play has tailed off in the last month as the Blue Jays push for a playoff spot, batting only .212 with a .679 OPS and one home run in August and September.

The Dominican outfielder was acquired in a trade with the Houston Astros in the off-season, with outfielder Joey Loperfido going the other way.

Martin will be active for Friday’s game against the Orioles in what could be his MLB debut after 12 years in the minor leagues.

The third baseman joined the Blue Jays organization in July, when he was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.

Martin Jr. has a .253/.351/.379 slash line with three home runs and 11 RBIs across 95 plate appearances. He has also added 12 stolen bases in 27 games.

Martin is known for his speed, having stolen 45 bases this season and 239 in his minor-league career.

Rams Superteam Debut Fails After Australia Travel Decisions Backfire

Published

on

The Los Angeles Rams debuted their superteam in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday night, and they started off with a big thud down under.

The heavy Super Bowl favorites were trounced in primetime by the San Francisco 49ers, who won the game 27-7.

So much was made about Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers decision to leave California one week early so their bodies could acclimate to the time difference in Australia. The Rams, meanwhile, deployed two employees to study extensive sleep and circadian science research. They left California the day before the game, keeping their bodies on Pacific Standard Time.

To put things lightly, that didn’t work. And whatever nerds told Rams coach Sean McVay that taking a 16-hour flight just 28 hours before kickoff was a good idea should be fired. The team looked completely exhausted.

Unless the grander plan was to just punt this game, anyways.

When you put aside the sleep science gobbledygook, it actually makes no sense to sit on an airplane for 16 hours, giving yourself just 12 hours before competing in a high stakes NFL game. Perhaps the Rams understand that there’s a lot of season left, and now there’s no need to adjust back to Los Angeles time. Instead, they can flush this blowout loss and immediately start preparing for their home matchup against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

Would a team really punt a divisional game in their season opener?

It sounds silly, but down three scores with several timeouts and the two-minute warning, Noah Eagle and Luke Kuechly were stunned on Netflix’s broadcast as McVay benched reigning MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford in favor of Stetson Bennett with the game somewhat still in reach.

Bennett saw his first real NFL action since being selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He didn’t do much, running around and helping the Rams kill time until they were allowed to escape Australia.

Speaking of a guy that didn’t do much? Myles Garrett.

The newly-acquired Garrett didn’t look worth Jared Verse and three draft picks in his Rams debut. Garrett played in 39 defensive snaps and didn’t record a single stat. He was missing from Los Angeles’ defensive line in key red zone moments, as he was gasping for air after not practicing all offseason.

There’s still plenty of games left for Garrett to turn around his first season in Los Angeles, but his postgame comments were jarring.
“This was the worst version of myself that I’ve put out there. And I’ve got to be better,” Garrett said. “I’ve got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I’ve shown that I’ve been before.”

The 30-year-old superstar acknowledged that his knee injury still isn’t 100%. Hopefully the Rams can get 35-year-old Aaron Donald up to speed quickly, because Brock Purdy’s Niners had no trouble marching up and down the field on Garrett’s defense for 379 yards of total offense.

The sky isn’t falling in Hollywood.

They still have a league-high 14% chance of winning the Super Bowl on Kalshi, which is a popular prediction market that allows users to buy and sell contracts of real-world outcomes like the NFL. The Rams are going to win plenty of games. But for one night, you’re allowed to question the genius of McVay, general manager Les Snead, and everyone involved in the Week 1 Australia meltdown.

Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn official weigh-in results after cut concerns

Published

on

Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn hit the scales in Las Vegas today ahead of their highly anticipated WBC welterweight world title fight at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

Garcia makes the first defence of the WBC welterweight title he won by defeating Mario Barrios earlier this year, while Benn challenges for a world championship for the first time in his professional career.

The weight has been one of the major talking points throughout fight week, with Benn repeatedly admitting that the cut back down to 147lbs – his first in four years – has been extremely difficult.

The Brit has competed as high as middleweight in recent years and said last week that he will immediately move up after this fight, win, lose or draw.

Yesterday, Garcia had publicly questioned whether Benn would make the limit and even sought an exception from the Nevada State Athletic Commission over glove size in the event that his opponent came in heavy, meaning both could still wear 8oz gloves rather than moving up to 10. The request led some to speculate that Garcia himself was struggling with his own cut.

Despite the worries, Benn came in at 146lbs while Garcia – who took to the scales slightly later than his challenger – was 145.5lbs, both men clearing the 147 limit by a notable amount.

Making the weight is not the entire story, however, with hard cuts often showing their effects come fight night, even after rehydration, via a lack of punch resistance or energy down the stretch. The pair will come face to face at the ceremonial weigh-in this evening, where fans will get a better look.

The fight headlines a Zuffa Boxing and Ring Magazine card at the T-Mobile Arena, with Jai Opetaia 199lbs facing Noel Mikaelian in the co-main event. The show will be streamed on Paramount+ in the United States, while viewers in the UK and Ireland can watch on DAZN.

BERLIN— Buoyed by partisan home fans, host Germany upset Belgium 93-74 on Thursday to reach the women’s FIBA World Cup semifinals, where the United States will play Spain.

Leonie Fiebich scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Germany to a showdown with France on Saturday. Nyara Sabally also had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Megan Gustafson scored 16 points and led Spain to an 89-66 win over injury-hit Australia in the last quarterfinal, ending the Americans’ wait to learn their next opponent. The four-time defending champions routed Hungary 108-56 in the first quarterfinal to stretch their winning streak in the tournament to 34 games.

Australia was without forward Ezi Magbegor, who tore her right ACL in the win over Italy, and Alanna Smith, who re-aggravated a leg injury at the start of the tournament.

“It’s really hard to compete against the best in the world when you don’t have all your best players, but I think it was a great experience for all our younger players,” Australia coach Sandy Brondello said.

Brondello is married to Germany coach Olaf Lange and she said she was “really proud of my husband, which is very weird to say,” after what Lange had called the “ best day in German basketball ” as Germany progressed.

“I was a little teary out there, I went and watched the end of the game,” said Brondello, who previously also coached some of the German players.

Germany had never reached the semifinals before. The players screamed and whooped in celebration.

“I can’t quite believe it yet,” forward Frieda Bühner said. “We’re among the best four teams in the world. I can’t believe it. It’s crazy.”

Germany had lost its opening game by 30 points to Spain, but bounced back with impressive wins over Japan and Mali before routing South Korea in a playoff to reach the quarterfinals.

Egged on by fervent commentary from the announcer, fans cheered, jumped and waved Germany flags at the Berlin Arena to help the home team keep its momentum going.

“It’s always really cool to play in front of such a crowd,” Sabally said. “I couldn’t have wished for more, especially in Germany. It’s really cool to see that there’s so much hype and the whole venue is caught up in it. It’s really, really cool.”

It’s the sixth straight World Cup at which the host has made the final four since China failed to make the semifinals in 2002.

Belgium, the European champion, was one of three teams that advanced through group play without a loss.

Emma Meesseman led Belgium with 29 points and added eight rebounds, but her team was unable to regain the lead after Bühner made it 20-19 toward the end of the first quarter.

Patriots WR A.J. Brown headed to injured reserve with high ankle sprain

Published

on

New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown is headed to the injured reserve list and will be out for the next four games, according to multiple reports. Brown suffered a high ankle sprain during the Patriots’ season-opening loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks

Brown was acquired via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason, with the Patriots surrendering a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick in exchange for his services. He was expected to serve as Drake Maye’s No. 1 target throughout this season.

Before the injury, which occurred early in the third quarter, Brown had caught three passes for 26 yards on four targets. New England’s passing game fell apart down the stretch after Brown left the game, with Maye throwing three fourth-quarter interceptions as the Patriots blew their lead and eventually lost the Super Bowl rematch.

Now, they’ll be without Brown for at least the next month. Brown will miss games against the Steelers, Jaguars, Bills and Raiders, at minimum.

Zverev is through to All Four Grand Slam Semifinals in 2026

Published

on

Alexander Zverev is back in the US Open semifinals after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 in straight sets.

The German top seed has now reached the semifinals at all four Grand Slams in 2026, becoming only the second-oldest player in the Open Era to achieve the feat. He has also reached his 13th Grand Slam semifinal and won 51 matches this season.

Zverev has steadily found his best form in New York after a difficult start to the tournament. He is also the only Grand Slam champion left in the men’s draw after Ben Shelton eliminated Carlos Alcaraz.

“I don’t take it for granted at all. I know it can change in a heartbeat in tennis.”

Zverev will face Karen Khachanov in the semifinals. The Russian reached the last four after Alexander Blockx retired while trailing 6-2, 7-5, 3-2. Zverev leads their head-to-head 6-3.

The other semifinal will be an all-American battle between Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe, meaning the 2026 US Open men’s champion will be one of these four: Zverev, Khachanov, Shelton or Tiafoe.

How to Watch Missouri vs. Kansas: TV Channel, Live Stream, Time

The Missouri Tigers visit the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 at 8 p.m. ET from David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas. Missouri opened its season with a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to move to 1-0, and Kansas is also 1-0 by way of a 51-6 win over Long Island.

Missouri’s offense carried the opener. Quarterback Austin Simmons threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns without an interception, and the Tigers scored 54 points while allowing 14.

Kansas leaned on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Isaiah Marshall passed for 246 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, running back Yasin Willis added 72 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and the Jayhawks’ defense allowed just 6 points in the win.

The Tigers are 5.5-point favorites over the Jayhawks at DraftKings, with a total of 50.5 and a moneyline of -221 for the Tigers and +178 for the Jayhawks.

Below, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game.

Players to Watch

Missouri needed a jolt at quarterback, and the Ole Miss transfer delivered one immediately, completing 17 of 19 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns before halftime of a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The left-hander beat out returning options Matt Zollers and Nick Evers for the job this spring, and he now gets his first true road test against a Kansas defense that just gave up 613 total yards in its own opener. Simmons will lean on a Missouri receiving corps built around Donovan Olugbode in a game the Big 12 moved to a Friday night, prime-time window. Another efficient outing keeps the No. 25 Tigers unbeaten and validates the offseason quarterback overhaul in Columbia.

Kansas is playing its first game at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium against Missouri since 2005, and it’s Marshall’s job to make sure the revived Border Showdown feels like a coronation. The redshirt sophomore won the starting job out of fall camp and answered with 246 yards and two touchdowns through the air plus 49 rushing yards on just seven carries in a 51-6 rout of LIU. That dual-threat element gives offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki another wrinkle against a Missouri front that will be seeing Marshall as a starter for the first time. A repeat performance would give Kansas a signature statement in a game the Big 12 shifted to national primetime.

Fresh off a season-opening connection with Austin Simmons that produced 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Olugbode enters as Missouri’s most established target after leading all Tigers freshmen in snaps a year ago with 30 catches for 401 yards. He and new quarterback Simmons have already shown chemistry, and that rapport matters against a Kansas secondary that will be facing a Big 12 opponent’s top receiver for the first time this season. With Cincinnati transfer Caleb Goodie and Ole Miss transfer Cayden Lee also in the mix, Olugbode figures to see plenty of coverage attention. Sustained production from him would keep Missouri’s passing game ahead of the sticks all night.

McMillan barely needed a transition period after arriving from Buffalo, catching six passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in his Jayhawks debut against LIU. The First Team All-MAC selection topped 100 yards receiving in six straight games last season for the Bulls, and he immediately looks like Kansas’s new No. 1 option opposite a Missouri secondary adjusting to a new-look Big 12 slate. His size at 6-foot-1 gives Isaiah Marshall a reliable outlet on early downs and in contested situations. If McMillan keeps producing like he did in week one, Kansas has the vertical threat it needs to make good on its home-field return against the Tigers.
