Manchester United are dealing with several injury concerns after their defeat to Man City in the Manchester derby
Manchester United will be reeling from the disappointment of their defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, and still have several players on the sidelines through injury. United were on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat in the Manchester derby as City walked away with all three points in the Premier League clash.
Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in controversial fashion, with Pro Ref later acknowledging that an “error” had been made in allowing the goal to stand. United will now dust themselves off and prepare for their first match in the Carabao Cup this season, when they face Brighton in the third round of the competition on Wednesday night.
However, Michael Carrick will be without several key players through injury ahead of their return to Old Trafford in midweek.
Here, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at United’s current injury list and potential return dates after the Manchester derby.
Carlos Baleba
Carlos Baleba is yet to make his first appearance for United after suffering an ankle injury during pre-season before he completed a move to Old Trafford.
Carrick confirmed last month that he expects Baleba to spend a further three weeks on the sidelines, but it remains to be seen if the midfielder will return before the end of the week.
“He’s got a little ankle issue, so maybe a couple of weeks or so, maybe three weeks,” Carrick told reporters on August 28.
“We’ll see. We knew that before, so it’s no major issue. It’ll be great to have him back when we can.”
Potential return date: Fulham (A) – September 20
Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw has missed United’s last two matches with an unspecified injury “Luke is not quite ready,” Carrick said in an interview with Sky Sports. “But he is very close. It’s very small but, unfortunately, not for today.”
Potential return date: Brighton (H) – September 15
