Trainer Robert Garcia sums up Errol Spence’s chances of beating Tim Tszyu after 3 years out
Robert Garcia has questioned whether Errol Spence Jr can rediscover the qualities that made him one of the sport’s “best fighters” between 2019 and 2022.
‘The Truth’ was once considered a top 10 pound-for-pound operator, back when he dethroned Shawn Porter and Yordenis Ugas to unify the WBC, IBF and WBA welterweight titles
Around that time, many even predicted that he would defeat Terence Crawford, only for him to lose their undisputed clash via a one-sided ninth-round stoppage in 2023.
Since then, Spence has remained out of the ring but now looks to reignite his career against Tim Tszyu, a fellow former world champion, on July 25.
The pair will square off at a catchweight of 158lbs in Australia, with Tszyu claiming a home advantage as he, too, looks to restore his place on the world stage.
His last outing at world level resulted in a seventh-round stoppage defeat to Sebastian Fundora, who edged their first encounter by split decision in 2024.
That same year, Tszyu found himself on the receiving end of a devastating third-round finish against Bakhram Murtazaliev, but now comes off back-to-back victories following his rematch with Fundora last July.
Spence, on the other hand, appears to be taking a sizable risk by jumping straight into a perceived 50/50 clash, with top trainer Garcia telling ESNEWS that the 36-year-old would have been forgiven for taking a “tune-up fight”.
“Errol Spence was a f***ing badass – pound-for-pound one of the best fighters.
“When he fought Crawford, you can tell that was not the Errol Spence we were used to seeing. He didn’t look good at all.
“Three years later, he wants to come back to boxing – and he’s not going to start off [with] a tune-up fight. I think he doesn’t know what he’s got left and, if he does a tune-up, he might get his ass kicked.
“That’s probably why he [made] the decision to go straight into the Tim Tszyu fight. If he’s fresh and he’s good, then he can win.”
As Garcia highlights, there is no way of knowing how much Spence has left due to the inactivity, which is largely what makes this such an intriguing contest against Tszyu.

Sydney Roosters vs North Queensland Cowboys Preview
Tom Dearden’s ankle injury looms as a major storyline for North Queensland, with the Cowboys now forced to adjust without the player who best straightens their attack. His combination with Scott Drinkwater has been crucial this season, allowing the Cowboys to create width and isolate defenders on the edges. Without him, more responsibility falls to Jake Clifford and the North Queensland forward pack to generate momentum.
The Roosters, meanwhile, are beginning to build nicely into the representative period. James Tedesco, Sam Walker and Daly Cherry-Evans all enter this clash with Origin selection talk intensifying, and the Roosters’ attack is showing signs of clicking into gear at the right time. Their ability to control possession and pressure tiring middles could expose a Cowboys side still adjusting to life without Dearden. If Easts starts fast, they may be difficult to reel back in.

Pep Guardiola: Man City preparing for boss’s departure at end of season
Manchester City are preparing for Pep Guardiola’s exit after Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.
Sources have told BBC Sport that the managerial great is expected to leave Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
City maintain Guardiola has a contract for next season and are hopeful he will remain as manager.
However, work towards his anticipated exit is under way at the club, with members of staff of the understanding he will leave.
It is understood members of the squad are also anticipating his departure after the final game of the season against Villa, while the club have turned their attentions towards how best to mark the tenure of their iconic boss.
Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who worked under Guardiola at City, is the front-runner to replace the 55-year-old.
Guardiola has led City to 17 major trophies – and 20 in all – including six Premier League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups and five EFL Cups during his 10 years at City.
The club’s greatest boss is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, and could yet still cap his stellar spell at Etihad Stadium with a seventh Premier League title, having already won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup this season.
Speculation about the manager’s future has been rife for months, with the question about his tenure at Manchester City often coming up in news conferences.
He was asked on Friday whether the following day’s trip to Wembley for the FA Cup final would be his last visit there. “No way,” he said, reminding reporters he had “one more year” on his contract.
And in a interview with BBC Sport before Saturday’s FA Cup final, when asked if he will still be at the club next season, he replied: “Yeah.”
The ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss added: “I am here, I have a contract.”
The same question came earlier on Monday at a news conference to preview Tuesday’s trip to Bournemouth.
Guardiola was asked about Andoni Iraola’s departure from the Cherries and whether he had thought about his own farewell.
He sighed and said: “Next. So many times – I have one more year.”

Nationals ban fan who unfurled white nationalist banner during game
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
The Washington Nationals banned an attendee from their home Nationals Park after showing a banner promoting a white nationalist website during a game on Sunday.
The team issued a statement to multiple media outlets saying it identified at least one of the individuals involved, though it would not release their identity.
“The Washington Nationals vehemently condemn discriminatory and hateful rhetoric, and we strive to make our home field a safe space for our fans,” the Nationals’ statement read following the game against the Baltimore Orioles.

During the Nationals’ game against the Orioles on Sunday, three people unfurled the banner in an upper deck section along the first baseline at Nationals Park, promoting the white nationalist website and calling for the deportation of “100+ million.”
The attendees reportedly resisted removing the banner after an usher tried to confiscate it before they left the ballpark, according to a team spokesperson.
Jake Lang, a conservative influencer and among those who stormed The U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, took credit for the banner on his social media.
The banner unfurling came during the Nationals’ usual “Salute to Service” ceremony, where they honor a veteran military service member before the fourth inning begins.
Nationals Park guidelines state that “signs, banners and fan activities” must not “distract from the enjoyment of sports games or other forms of entertainment.” Also, the stadium is “not a forum or place for use by the public at large for assembly and speech, for use by certain speakers or for the discussion of certain subjects.”

There is also a restriction on the size and material of objects, which brings about how the banner got into the stadium in the first place.
It is currently unclear how the banner got through stadium security, per The Athletic.
Signs and banners must also adhere to Major League Baseball guidelines as well as the Nationals guest conduct policy. The policies prohibit any “derogatory matter relating to race, ethnicity, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, age, personal appearance, familial status, familial responsibilities, matriculation, political affiliation, source of income, status as a victim of an intrafamily offense, place of residence or business or any other category protected by D.C. law.”

Onyekuru And Etebo Face Uncertain Future Despite Gençlerbirliği Survival
Henry Onyekuru and Oghenekaro Etebo are facing uncertain futures at Gençlerbirliği despite the club’s dramatic escape from relegation in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Gençlerbirliği secured survival on the final day of the season after beating Trabzonspor 3-0 away from home.
While the club celebrated staying in the top division, both Nigerian players endured difficult seasons for different reasons.
Onyekuru struggled throughout the campaign after joining the club on a free transfer following his spell in Saudi Arabia. The former Super Eagles winger failed to score or provide an assist in 17 league appearances.
The 28-year-old played only 301 minutes all season and started just three matches. Most of his appearances came from the bench, while he was left out of the squad for the important final-day victory over Trabzonspor.
Despite having a contract until 2027, reports suggest Gençlerbirliği could allow Onyekuru leave this summer through a reduced transfer fee or mutual contract termination.
Etebo also had a frustrating season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon during training. The injury ruled the midfielder out for almost the entire campaign.
The former Watford and Stoke City player made just one appearance for the club this season, playing only 42 minutes.
However, Gençlerbirliği still value Etebo highly because of his important role in helping the club gain promotion last season.
The Nigerian midfielder has now returned to light training and is expected to recover fully before the start of next season. The club will assess his fitness during pre-season before making a final decision on his future.
Both Nigerian stars will now hope for a better campaign next season as they look to rebuild their careers.

Parramatta Eels vs Melbourne Storm Preview
Melbourne snapped its losing run last week but Craig Bellamy will still see areas requiring improvement, particularly through the middle once fatigue began to creep in. The Storm’s defensive structure around the ruck and short side has looked vulnerable at times this season, an issue dangerous against a playmaker like Mitch Moses.
Parramatta enters this clash riding the emotional high of a golden-point victory, though backing up physically and mentally will be the challenge. Moses remains the key, especially with his ability to identify compressed defensive lines and attack narrow edges. If the Eels can hold firm through the middle and avoid gifting Melbourne momentum, they have the attacking weapons to stay within striking distance throughout. The Storm still possesses the class and experience to control key moments, but this shapes as a far tighter contest than the ladder might suggest.

Flamingos Set For Guinea Clash In U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, will leave for Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday, May 20, ahead of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea.
The team, led by head coach Akeem Busari, will continue final preparations before the first-leg match scheduled for May 23.
The Flamingos are currently training at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne as they intensify preparations for the important qualifier.
Team officials said the squad travelled from Abuja to Lagos before arriving in Ikenne later in the evening.
Coach Busari and his assistants have been working on the squad after several impressive performances in friendly matches during camping.
The coach invited 36 players to camp in Abuja on April 10, and the team has shown strong form in their preparatory games.
The Flamingos defeated SoloWonders Babes 7-0, beat YAFA 5-0, thrashed Nazareth 6-0 and also recorded a 7-0 victory over Generation Next. Their only draw came against Real Rising in a 1-1 result.
The team also secured a comfortable 5-0 win against Lakesides at the Remo Stars Stadium, boosting confidence ahead of the clash with Guinea.
The Flamingos remain one of Africa’s top women’s youth teams, having reached the semi-finals of previous FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup tournaments while producing talented players for Nigerian women’s football.
The two-legged qualifier against Guinea will decide which team moves closer to qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco later this year.

Tyson Fury confirms August ‘runout’ fight: “Then it’s the big one”
With a long-awaited battle with Anthony Joshua looming, Tyson Fury has revealed when he will be fighting once before.
Fury defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov by unanimous decision in April in what was the first ring appearance for ‘The Gypsy King’ since suffering back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.
After that win, Fury was involved in a back and forth with long-term rival Joshua, with it since confirmed that the pair will finally square off later this year.
That is dependent on Joshua first coming through a warm-up bout against Kristian Prenga in July, while Fury also confirmed plans to compete again before the showdown with his countryman.
‘The Gypsy King’ has now revealed when that is expected to be, telling FurociTV that he is set to compete in August before then meeting Joshua a few months later.
“My fight plan this year is three fights. April, August, and whenever the big fight is announced; either October or November.”
Fury also gave an update on his opponent, but insists that it doesn’t matter who he shares the ring with.
“We haven’t got an opponent yet, but it’s never about the opponent. It’s just about me versus me always. Whoever the opponent is whether it’s Joe Bloggs or Mike Tyson. It’s unimportant to me, it’s just a runout to get sharper for the big one.”
Boxing fans will be hoping that both Fury and Joshua can come through their interim bouts unscathed, before then turning their attention to the contest that really matters later this year.

Manuel Neuer extends Bayern Munich contract by another year at 40 | Football News
Manuel Neuer has extended his contract at Bayern Munich for another year, keeping the 40-year-old goalkeeping great at the German champion as he mentors his long-term successor.
Neuer will head into another season at Bayern, 15 years since joining the club, and remains the captain and first-choice goalkeeper after impressive performances in the Champions League despite fitness issues this season.
Neuer has played 597 times for Bayern and is set to become the fifth player in club history to hit the 600 mark.
Backup Jonas Urbig is considered Neuer’s long-term successor and has increasingly been given games this season. Neuer’s role includes mentoring Urbig.
The announcement came on Friday ahead of Bayern’s last Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday at home to Cologne.
Neuer’s long-time understudy Sven Ulreich has also signed on for another year.
“Manuel and Sven will continue to support Jonas on his path to becoming the future of FC Bayern,” Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said in a statement.
Neuer won his 13th German league title with Bayern a month ago and could make it a domestic double for the first time since 2020 if Bayern beats Stuttgart in the German Cup final on May 23.
Neuer has been focused on Bayern since retiring from the German national team after Euro 2024. Oliver Baumann of Hoffenheim is likely to be Germany’s starter at the World Cup next month.
