Virgil van Dijk reportedly congratulated every Newcastle player after the Toon beat Liverpool 2-1 to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
The Reds had gone into the showdown as the overwhelming favourites to secure glory, despite their Champions League exit in midweek.
But Liverpool weren’t at their best on Sunday, with Newcastle a level above as they secured a first trophy since 1969.
Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak gave Eddie Howe’s side the prize, with Federico Chiesa managing a late consolation for Liverpool in response.

After the game, Newcastle players were jubilant as they celebrated ending the club’s agonising wait for a trophy.
Yet Stephen Warnock, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, has revealed that Van Dijk congratulated every Newcastle player on their win – despite being disappointed himself.
“There was an embrace between Virgil van Dijk and Dan Burn,” he said after the pair tussled in the closing stages.
“Van Dijk stood at the Newcastle huddle – he went around and shook every player’s hand. He respected what Newcastle have done today.

The Brazil international wept as he observed Wembley and all the Newcastle fans serenading him by singing his name.
And Guimaraes, speaking to Sky Sports, admitted that it was the best day of his life.
“It’s all for these fans. They deserve everything. When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in history,” he said.
“We can now say we are the champions again. This is one of the best days of my life.

“For them [the fans] it’s like the World Cup. People have grown up and not seen us as champions. My first year as captain of this club and it’s one of the best days. This is unbelievable.
“This is my second home. We are making history.

Newcastle are next in action against Brentford in the Premier League on April 2.
As for Liverpool, they can take another step towards glory in the league when they do battle with Everton on that same day.
