Keir Starmer accused of ‘gaslighting’ Britons as ‘Awful April’ slaps nation with huge bill hikes: ‘Nonsense!’
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of “gaslighting” Britons after the nation was slapped with a swathe of household bill hikes, including council tax, water bills and energy bills.
Following Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s Spring Statement, the country was hit with “Awful April” – which saw the average bills hit £1,849 annually for gas and electricity on a standard dual-fuel direct debit plan.
The energy price cap, which covers 26 million households in England, Wales and Scotland, also increased from April.
Water bills will rise by an average of 26 per cent, adding £123 to annual costs for homes across England and Wales. Energy bills will increase by 6.4 per cent as Ofgem raises the price cap, adding around £111 to yearly costs.

Council tax will also rise by five per cent in most English areas, adding approximately £109 to a typical band D property.
Discussing the hikes on GB News, broadcaster Cristo Foufas claimed that the Labour Government are “gaslighting” and “lying” to Britons about their financial futures.
Foufas told the People’s Channel: “Do you know what’s so frustrating about all of this? I am going to call it lies, but I’m also going to call it gaslighting.
“Because we get constant tweets from them – Rachel Reeves saying, ‘I’ve given you all a bit of a pay rise, promise made, promise kept’, and it’s just nonsense.”

Foufas received an astounding applause from the GB News live audience, as he also claimed that Labour “were in favour” of many of the Tory measures that were implemented before they inherited the economy.
Foufas stated: “It’s just absolute nonsense. The other thing that really irritates me about this is that they will say that they inherited the economy in a dreadful state, when actually, okay, it wasn’t brilliant, but it was in a better state than it is now.
“And also all of the measures that created this inflation, they were in favour of – the Covid measures and all of the printing money, Labour wanted that to happen. It’s as if they got into power and said, ‘oh I don’t know what to do about it’.”
As broadcaster JJ Anisiobi claimed that the economy “wasn’t growing” when Labour inherited it, Foufas hit back and claimed that Britain was “one of the fastest growing” economies in the G7.

Anisiobi then claimed: “The economy was not in a better position when before Labour took over – it’s not as if they took this amazing Great Britain and our GDP was growing, flourishing. It wasn’t.
“The Tories had been through about four different prime ministers because they’re such a bad job.”
