NPR and PBS don’t deserve taxpayer funding

» NPR and PBS don’t deserve taxpayer funding

President Donald Trump requested that Congress defund NPR and PBS. Taxpayer relief from the burden of having to fund two liberal media outlets that disdain half the country is overdue.

Trump’s requests were sent to Congress alongside an ask to strip funds from the State Department and programs such as the U.S. Agency for International Development. Among these things, NPR and PBS have the fewest redeeming qualities. They serve as contributors to the liberal media ecosystem that prioritizes Democratic Party narratives and toxic partisanship over factual coverage.

NPR CEO Katherine Maher exemplifies the outlet’s radical left-wing bent. Maher has said the United States began in “black plunder and white democracy” and that “America is addicted to white supremacy.” The NPR staff is left-wing all day down, with former NPR reporter Uri Berliner revealing in his own examination of the NPR staff that he found 87 Democrats and not a single Republican. That is clearly reflected in NPR’s coverage of various matters, from the outlet saying the Hunter Biden laptop story would “waste our time” to saying there is “limited scientific evidence” that men have speed and strength advantages over women.

PBS is in a similar boat. The outlet’s coverage of the Republican and Democratic national conventions was determined to be biased by the conservative watchdog group Media Research Center. It found that PBS’s coverage of the DNC was 88% positive, and its coverage of the RNC was 72% negative. PBS’s White House correspondent during Trump’s first term was Yamiche Alcindor, an overly dramatic liberal who gets basic facts wrong to cover for Democrats and hijacks important press briefings to push her own ridiculous race-baiting agenda.

LIBERAL MEDIA SCREAM: MEDIA EAT THEIR OWN AND RIP BILL MAHER FOR DINING WITH TRUMP

The bias from the outlets only goes one way, as do the “mistakes” that Maher acknowledges only after the damage has been done. NPR and PBS are horrendously biased, and both insult the intelligence of critics by pretending that they are neutral arbiters of the truth. From regular liberal outlets such as NBC or CNN, this is grating. From NPR and PBS, which are funded in part by taxpayers, this is unacceptable.

NPR and PBS are free to be as biased as every other mainstream liberal outlet on someone else’s dime. Both have proven they are incapable of being anything close to “neutral,” and Republicans should cut them off from taxpayer funding once and for all.
