However, people within the departments are often holdovers from previous administrations and may be hostile to the current president’s agenda.
Elon Musk summed it up in a Feb. 28 post on X.
“Imagine if you were suddenly appointed AG or head of the FBI. You were just thrown on a ship with a hostile crew,” he wrote. “Until you appoint some new crew members and figure out the ropes, you can’t steer the ship effectively. It’s literally impossible.”
A president needs to have his Cabinet on his side if he wants to be effective.
In an interview with Robinson Erhardt, Victor Davis Hanson pointed to the regime change when former President Barack Obama took office.
“I was on the American Battlefield Monuments Commission,” Hanson said. “He [Obama] fired every Republican on that commission. I don’t blame him. That was what he wanted: people on the same team.”
It is perfectly reasonable for a president to want to be surrounded by people who are loyal to him and ready to carry out his agenda. Now, President Donald Trump should do the same.
Hanson mentioned that Trump, in his first administration, rusted establishment insiders to enact his agenda. Those picks took advantage of Trump’s relative inexperience and caused him to achieve less than he originally hoped.
In light of the recent disappointment regarding the release of the Jeffery Epstein files, Attorney General Pam Bondi called on FBI Director Kash Patel to release the entirety of the files.
It is likely not Bondi or Patel’s fault that there were delays in releasing the files.
Assuming Bondi and Patel are genuine in their attempts to release the files, those within their departments should take the blame.
“The FBI is entering a new era – one that will be defined by integrity, accountability, and the unwavering pursuit of justice,” Patel said in an X post. “Anyone from the prior or current Bureau who undermines this will be swiftly pursued.”

It is time for Bondi and Patel to take a deep look at the Department of Justice and the FBI and examine if anyone is involved in delaying the files’ release. FBI agents can’t be fired without just cause, but defying orders likely would qualify as such a cause.
While there have been setbacks, Bondi has continued to promise that she will release the entirety of the files. Now that Bondi and Patel know who to trust, the release of the files should go more smoothly. If they don’t, however, we will probably know who to blame.
