The mutual has extended the deal for the Principality Stadium for a further three years
Principality Building Society has extended its naming rights sponsorship of the Principality Stadium until 2030. The original deal was worth around £12.5m and paid on an annual basis (£1.25m).
Both the WRU and the sixth biggest building society in the UK, have not disclosed the value of the new extended contract. However, on an annualised basis it is understood to represent a significant increase on the current deal which will expire at the end of this year.
The 2015 deal was supposed to run for 10 years, but there was a one year extension due to the pandemic.

Chief executive of Principality Building Society, Iain Mansfield, said: “I am delighted to announce the renewal of the naming rights of Principality Stadium until 2030 – taking us to the end of the decade.

WRU chief executive Abi Tierney said: “This new investment in Welsh rugby will provide vital support to the community game across the nation and directly positively impact improvements to our professional game,

The WRU extended the 10 year deal for one year as a gesture of goodwill, after Covid-19 saw many events cancelled or held behind closed doors during the 2022 season.
Principality had a option to renew, so striking a three year extension is not a huge surprise. Whether it will look to continue beyond the end of 2029 is another matter, but it gives the union breathing space to look at options for a possible new naming rights partners
However, any new partner would factor in to any financial deal the fact that it would take a number of years for its name, or brand, to bed into public consciousness. That was also the case when the Millennium Stadium was rebranded the Principality Stadium.
