Liverpool keeper Alisson targeted for shock transfer to European giants managed by Premier League legend

VINCENT KOMPANY’S Bayern Munich are watching developments on Alisson Becker.

The Liverpool keeper, 31,  has been linked with a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia, possibly as early as the end of the season.

Bayern, who have fitness concerns over their No 1 Manuel Neuer, are also very keen but it would take a fortune to land Alisson next summer.

Ex-Burnley chief Kompany is a big fan of Alisson from his time in English football and could launch an ambitious move at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool are braced for Alisson leaving and have already signed Valencia’s Georgian stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, 23, to join them permanently next year.

Alisson joined the Reds from Roma following a £67million deal in 2018.

Since then, the star goalkeeper has inspired immense confidence between the sticks – something Liverpool had been sorely lacking prior to his arrival.

The Brazil international shone bright during Jurgen Klopp’s reign at the helm.

The shot stopper helped the Merseysiders win their first Premier League title in 30 years back in 2020.

The Brazilian also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Champions League.

Alisson has amassed a grand total of 269 appearances with Liverpool during his six-year stint at the Kop.

So far this season, the ex-Roma star has played six times across all competitions.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot, though, could also call upon Caoimhin Kelleher if Alisson decides to leave at the end of the season.

England's record-breaking innings played in almost deserted stadium despite tickets being available for FREE

JOE ROOT and Harry Brook set a new record for the highest Test Partnership in England history – but it all happened inside an almost empty stadium in Pakistan.

This comes after tickets were available for FREE inside the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Harry Brook and Joe Root are applauded by their team mates as England declared at 823-7

England racked up 823-7 against Pakistan before stand-in captain Ollie Pope declared in the first Test in Multan.

Brook hit a triple century and Root made a double ton as records tumbled.

Together, they surpassed England’s previous record partnership of 409 runs – set by Colin May and Peter Cowdry against the West Indies in 1957.

When Root eventually fell for 262, it brought an end to a partnership of 454 – the fourth-highest in the history of Test cricket.

Meanwhile, Brook went beyond his teammate before eventually being dismissed for 317 from just 332 balls.

But all of these record-breaking successes occurred in front of, at best, almost 1,000 people inside a near EMPTY stadium.

Former England captain and co-commentator Mike Atherton voiced his disappointment over the extremely low turnout.

He said: “There are probably more security staff at the stadium than people in the crowd.”

Following the lacklustre turnout on Day 2, the PCB announced that fans would be allowed free entry to the stadium for Days 3 and 4.

The main issue which has contributed to bad crowds is that it was only confirmed 17 days before the first day of the opening Test.

Joe Root speculates on beating Alastair Cook’s record to become England’s highest ever Test run scorer

But the poor attendance also comes at a time when Test cricket in Pakistan is facing difficulties.

A lack of crowds could highlight the diminishing interest in the longer format of the game.

Another reason why there are so few fans is because there aren’t many English spectators.

The Barmy Army often organise all of the trips abroad for England members, but they revealed ahead of the tour, there would only be about 20 going.

Many members are also simply saving for The Ashes next year.

Both Root and Brook recorded their highest Test scores, with the former overtaking Alastair Cook to become England’s all-time leading Test run scorer with 12,472.

Brook also became the first Englishman to score over 20,000 international runs across all three formats.

Between the Links: Alex Pereira shines again at UFC 307, Pennington robbed vs. Pena? Plus, UFC Vegas 98

Alex Pereira did it again, as he knocked out a game Khalil Rountree in the main event of UFC 307 to retain the UFC light heavyweight title. “Poatan” now has options galore, so is sticking around at 205 the way to go, or should he move up to heavyweight to entice Jon Jones or Stipe Miocic to stick around?

On an all-new edition of Between the Links, the panel discusses the fallout of this past Saturday’s pay-per-view event, comparing Pereria’s run to any other we’ve seen in the UFC, Julianna Pena regaining the women’s bantamweight title, whether or not Raquel Pennington was robbed, and other storylines from the card. Inverness CT: '15-point deduction would probably relegate us'

Inverness Caledonian Thistle face a “nearly impossible task” to avoid successive relegations if the club goes into administration, admits head coach Duncan Ferguson.

On Monday, the board of directors revealed that administration was the most likely course of action, although it could be averted if fundraising efforts reach £200,000 by the end of next week.

That fund currently stands at £75,000.

Caley Thistle are second bottom of Scottish League 1 with nine points from nine matches, having dropped from the Championship over the summer.

Administration would bring a 15-point penalty from the Scottish Professional Football League, along with a threat to jobs.

“Everyone at the club is finding it difficult at the moment,” Ferguson said. “I hope everybody is still here next week, but we know there’s a big cloud hanging over us.

Usman Nurmagomedov ‘the fight everybody’s wanted to see’

Usman Nurmagomedov ‘the fight everybody’s wanted to see’

A.J. McKee is closing in on his desired shot at Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov.

But first, McKee (22-1) has to get past Paul Hughes (12-1) at PFL: Battle of the Giants on Oct. 19 at The Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN+).

McKee thinks him vs. Nurmagomedov (18-0) is the fight to make.

“I think it’s been the fight that everybody’s wanted to see for quite some time now,” McKee told MMA Junkie Radio. “Obviously, myself catching staph through the tournament, something happened with him during the tournament  testing wise or whatever, so he went on a little suspension. But we just continue to fight, perfect our craft.

“I can’t really look past Paul Hughes, because styles make fights and every fight is a different fight. So for me, it’s staying focused on Paul Hughes. But after that Usman fight (vs. Alexandr Shabliy), Khabib (Nurmagomedov) did walk by and he goes, ‘See you in Dubai, brother,’ and I started laughing. It was just funny, because he knows I’m watching, why I’m there.”

Prior to retaining his title against Alexandr Shabliy in September, Nurmagomedov said he sees McKee as the top contender. McKee isn’t sure why he was booked against Hughes instead of being the next title challenger, but says a fight with Nurmagomedov is inevitable.

“I have no idea – he might need a little break,” McKee said. “I think that’s the next fight regardless, though. Khabib kind of said it to me, I’ve been veering for it for a minute, and I think everybody knows that’s the fight to make.

“I think that’s the fight they’re going to make. It’s the fight that kind of makes sense to make. But obviously, I’ve got to go do my job. It’s one more man in front of me. When you look at the stats, we all know who deserves that title shot, but I’ve just got one more step to prove.”

Wuhan Open Snooker 2024 LIVE RESULTS: Latest as Judd Trump faces Chris Wakelin in quarter-final, Murphy THRASHED

Wakelin standing in his way

Judd Trump will meet Chris Wakeklin in the last eight, after he pulled off an impressive win against local hero Ding Junhui.

Wakelin said: “I just believe in myself now. The results over the last couple of years have given me the confidence to go into these sorts of situations and have belief that the game is there.

“The biggest thing for me wasn’t the three centuries on the trot, it was the last frame.

“He missed a red in the middle and given what happened before, I came to the table unsure about how I was feeling.

“When I got motoring through the balls I was confident I was going to get over the line.

“Every single player on tour is capable of playing like that, but to do it on the big stage is something that I’ve not been capable of.

“I’ve not had the temperament and the belief to stand there and knock in three centuries on the trot in front of Ding and a home crowd in China.

“That is a massive moment for me and it will give me a lot of confidence going forward.”

Trump moving through the gears

Judd Trump faces Chris Wakelin in the quarter-finals and believes he can move up several gears before the end of the week.

He said: “I didn’t play my best. I just tried to hang in there.

“I got fortunate in one of the frames with the green and then played a safety in the final frame and potted a red.

“There were a couple of pivotal turning points in that game which went my way and that’s enough to swing a game.”

Cue must be joking

Judd Trump made a bizarre error during his 5-2 win over John Higgins.

The World No 1 picked up the wrong cue on his way to the table, resulting in an embarrassing moment.

Reflecting on the bizarre incident after his win, Trump said: “I have never done that before. It was a bit of a shock.

“It wasn’t until I really got to the table that I noticed. I was going to break off and the cue felt strange, so I looked down and it wasn’t my cue.

“Luckily for me, John was very nice about it and he just told me to wait as long as possible.

“I think it has happened before and someone got awarded the frame, but John was nice enough just to allow me enough time to get my cue back.”

Zhang vs Si – head to head

This will be one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament so far for fans of China, as the two stars (ranked no 11 and no 13 in the world, respectively) come to blows for just the fourth time.

Zhang has had dominated all three of their previous meetings, dropping just three frames, but a lot has changed for Si since their last match at the 2023 Scottish Open.

Si, still just 22, is seen as one of the future stars of the game and he has proved that with a brilliant win at the German Masters and a run to the semi-finals of the Saudi Arabian Masters last month.

Zhang is no slouch, of course, and China’s second and third ranked players meeting at this stage will be box office in the Far East.
