Ronnie O’Sullivan thumped the table in frustration as John Higgins reeled in the seven-time world snooker champion in an enthralling second session of their second round match at the Crucible on Sunday night.

O’Sullivan twice led by five frames and looked set to cruise towards the quarter-finals at the expense of the out-of-sorts Scot, before Higgins drew on his decades of top-level experience to end the evening just two adrift at 9-7.

A pivotal final frame of the session proved too much for O’Sullivan, who gave the cushion a painful rap with his knuckles after missing an early red, before Higgins edged over the line to finish much the happier of the two players.

Higgins never got going in the early stages, but clawed out frame 14 despite fluffing an attempted escape from a snooker, and never looked back. He reeled in a 55-point deficit in the next, then held his nerve in an edgy last frame of the night in which both players went in-off at crucial moments.

Wu Yize fashioned a 9-7 lead over four-time champion Mark Selby in an intriguing clash that is also set to conclude on Monday afternoon.

Selby had threatened to overwhelm his opponent after firing successive centuries in the first two frames, but the 22-year-old Wu hit back to haul level at 4-4 after their opening session.

And it was the Chinese player who dominated upon their return in the evening, pulling clear at 9-6 before Selby chiselled out the final frame of the night to keep himself within touching distance.

Earlier, defending champion Zhao Xintong moved closer to cracking the so-called ‘Crucible Curse’ by booking his place back in the quarter-finals with a 13-9 win over compatriot Ding Junhui.

Zhao shrugged off some evident nerves to build on a 9-7 overnight advantage despite losing an error-strewn, 46-minute opener that saw Ding temporarily reduce the arrears to a single frame.

The 29-year-old – looking to become the first first-time winner to retain his title at the Crucible – capitalised on a series of misses by his opponent to pull away, a break of 108 in the penultimate frame helping seal a last eight clash with Shaun Murphy.

“Today I think there was more pressure,” Zhao told BBC Sport. “I know Ding didn’t play very well in the last session but the pressure is very big. This year I just don’t want to lose any match so it feels very different.”

World number one Judd Trump inched closer to booking his place in the quarter-finals after establishing a 9-7 overnight lead in a pulsating contest against Iran’s Hossein Vafaei.

Resuming at 4-4, Trump struggled to get into his stride as his inspired opponent edged 7-6 in front, but Trump responded brilliantly, a century followed by further breaks of 74 and 94 seeing him end their second session with a precious advantage.

Neil Robertson took advantage of a controversial moment in the 14th frame of his clash with Chris Wakelin to move four clear at 10-6 ahead of Monday’s conclusion.

Wakelin was well in the ascendency when he potted a long red, but a foul was called by referee Peggy Li who noticed him feather the yellow ball in the process.

Wakelin clearly did not agree with the referee’s call but the decision stood after Li called for a replay, and Robertson capitalised to take the frame with a 65 break, before further breaks of 65 and 101 took him to the brink of his first last eight appearance since 2021.

Experienced Nigerian coach Abdul Maikaba has been appointed as the new head coach of the Flying Eagles.

Maikaba takes over from Aliyu Zubairu, who led the team to the second round of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile last year. Zubairu, who was appointed in September 2024, enjoyed a successful spell with the team.

During his time in charge, the Flying Eagles won the WAFU B U-20 Championship and also qualified for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. They defeated Ghana 2-1 in the WAFU B final in Togo and were known for their strong organisation and discipline on the pitch.

Maikaba is no stranger to the team, having previously worked as an assistant coach. He has a wealth of experience in Nigerian football, managing several top clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League, including Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Enugu Rangers, Akwa United and Plateau United.

One of his major achievements came at Akwa United, where he guided the club to win the Aiteo Cup, showing his ability to build strong and successful teams.

At continental level, Maikaba also worked as assistant coach to Okey Emordi during a CAF Champions League campaign that reached the semi-finals. He has also been involved with Nigeria’s U-17 and U-20 teams, including the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

His appointment marks a new chapter for the Flying Eagles, with hopes that his experience and tactical knowledge will help the team continue to grow and achieve more success.

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe has become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours.

The 30-year-old set the milestone by winning the London Marathon in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds on Sunday, breaking the previous record.

The time for the 26.2 miles (42.2km) distance was 65 seconds faster than the mark set by fellow Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum in Chicago in 2023.

It was also 10 seconds quicker than Eliud Kipchoge‘s time from 2019 in Vienna. That finish was not recognized as an official record because it was not in open competition and the Kenyan was assisted by pacemakers.

Another record set in women’s race

There was also record-breaking performance in the women’s race, where Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa defended her title in 2 hours 15 minutes and 41 seconds — the fastest time ever in a women’s-only race. Assefa had pulled ahead in the final 500 meters.

The mark was 16 seconds slower than the overall course record set by Briton Paula Radcliffe in 2003 in a mixed race.

In the wheelchair events, Switzerland secured a double as Marcel Hug claimed a sixth straight men’s title and eighth overall, while Catherine Debrunner edged out Tatyana McFadden to retain the women’s crown.

There are legitimate players every year who do not hear their names called during the NFL Draft. Most of these players are picked up by teams and invited to participate in their rookie minicamps. If they perform well, they can eventually make a final roster in September.

Some of the best undrafted players in NFL history include Kurt Warner, Antonio Gates, Priest Holmes, Drew Pearson, Jason Peters and James Harrison. These players fell out of the draft for various reasons but eventually became NFL legends. There’s no rule that says you need to be drafted to make it to Canton one day.

Several notable players went undrafted this year, including a wide receiver compared to Calvin Johnson, a Heisman Trophy finalist, and the player who served as Alabama’s quarterback on defense. Let’s take a look at some of the top undrafted players from this weekend.

1. EDGE Nadame Tucker, Western Michigan

As you will see, the Chargers quietly put together an impressive list of undrafted free agents. Nadame Tucker was a top 160 player in this class, according to CBS Sports, as he broke out in 2025 with 14.5 sacks. That tied for most in the FBS, and landed Tucker MAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He’s not the biggest player in the world at 6-foot-2, 247 pounds, and turns 26 in June. But Tucker is an electric pass rusher who has shown both speed and power. 

2. DT Zxavian Harris, Ole Miss

His name isn’t a typo and neither are his measurements. There haven’t been many 6-foot-8, 330-pound defensive tackles we’ve broken down before. Zxavian Harris blocked six kicks during his collegiate career and finished sixth in the FBS with 27 run stops last year. He likely fell out of the draft because of off-field issues, which include multiple arrests. 

3. TE Michael Trigg, Baylor

There were a total of 22 tight ends selected, so it was surprising that Michael Trigg was not one of them. He’s not going to be a mauler in the blocking game at 240 pounds, but this is an athletic pass-catcher that could flourish in the right scheme. An easy comp for him is Chigoziem Okonkwo, who led the Tennessee Titans with 56 receptions and 560 yards receiving last season, leading to a three-year free-agency deal from the Washington Commanders. 

4. WR Jeff Caldwell, Cincinnati

Team signed with: Kansas City Chiefs

Jeff Caldwell was one of the most fascinating players in this class, and it’s pretty surprising he went undrafted. Not only does he possess great size at nearly 6-6 and 216 pounds, but he’s also a freak athlete. At the NFL combine, he ran a 4.31 40-yard dash, registered a 1.48 10-yard split, 42-inch vertical and 11-foot-2 broad jump. Caldwell registered a perfect 10.00 out of 10.00 RAS. It ranked No. 2 out of 3,926 wide receivers from 1987 to 2026, behind only … Calvin Johnson. 

The problem is that Caldwell doesn’t have the kind of production to go along with his athleticism. In his lone season with Cincinnati, Caldwell caught just 32 passes for 478 yards and six touchdowns.

5. OT Isaiah World, Oregon

Team signed with: Los Angeles Chargers

Isaiah World was a four-year starter at left tackle, with the first three seasons being played at Nevada. Some teams imagine he could move inside to guard at the next level, but this was a Second Team All-Big Ten player last year. 

6. LB Deontae Lawson, Alabama

Team signed with: Philadelphia Eagles

Deontae Lawson returned from an ACL injury this past season and registered the worst missed tackle rate of his career (16.3%, per PFF). However, this high-IQ player is lauded for his instincts and has potential in coverage as well. 

7. EDGE Logan Fano, Utah

Team signed with: Cleveland Browns

This is pretty cool, as the Browns added the brother of their No. 9 overall pick, Spencer Fano, as an undrafted free agent. Logan Fano is about 6-foot-5, and was named Second Team All-Big 12 this past season after recording 44 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. 

8. OT Diego Pounds, Ole Miss

Team signed with: Baltimore Ravens

Diego Pounds is a 6-foot-6, 325-pound left tackle who allowed zero sacks on 583 pass-blocking snaps this past season, which earned him Third Team All-SEC honors. However, Pounds is another tackle that could move inside at the next level. 

9. QB Haynes King, Georgia Tech

Team signed with: Carolina Panthers

Haynes King is a fun weapon that earned ACC Player of the Year after leading the Yellow Jackets in rushing with 953 yards and 15 touchdowns. He leaves Atlanta as one of the best quarterbacks in Georgia Tech history. However, King is 25, and it remains to be seen if he can be an NFL-thrower. 

10. QB Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt

Diego Pavia became the first Heisman Trophy finalist to go undrafted since 2014. He’s certainly the most famous undrafted player this year, as Pavia led the SEC in completion percentage (70.6%), passing touchdowns (29) and yards per attempt (9.4). His 4,402 total yards led all Power Four players. After helping the Commodores register their first winning season in more than a decade in 2024, Pavia got Vandy to 10-3 in 2025. It was the first time the Commodores registered double-digit victories in a season. 

No one can argue that Pavia isn’t an elite competitor who shines when the lights are brightest. But his 5-foot-10 stature is the start of the skepticism for NFL scouts, who certainly followed his name in the headlines.

Michael McGreevy gave the St. Louis Cardinals a crucial quality start and JJ Wetherholt and Nathan Church provided the power, but the bullpen wasted all of it as the Mariners pulled out a late inning victory 3-2.

Both Emerson Hancock for the Mariners and Michael McGreevy for the Cardinals gave their teams strong starts Sunday. Both offenses were quiet until the bottom of the 3rd inning when JJ Wetherholt turned on a pitch and deposited it in the right-field bullpen with an exit velocity of 107.4 mph traveling 375 feet making it 1-0 Cardinals.

The Seattle Mariners answered in the top of the 4th inning when Cal Raleigh showed proof that his bat is starting to wake up hammering a McGreevy pitch over the wall to tie the game 1-1.

Michael McGreevy’s performance was remarkable. He threw 6 solid innings only surrendering 5 hits and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts and no walks. He gave the St. Louis Cardinals an absolutely crucial long start at a time when the bullpen need it most. To give credit where credit is due, Emerson Hancock also threw a strong game completing 6 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs striking out 4 and walking 2.

The St. Louis Cardinals offense would flex its muscle again in the bottom of the 6th inning when Nathan Church unloaded on a Hancock pitch and deposit it in the right-field stands giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Can you say 110 mph exit velocity? Yes, you can and Nathan Church did.

Matt Svanson gave the Cardinals an efficient start to the 7th inning getting two quick outs including a great defense play by Ramón Urías at third base. However, Connor Joe would double and then score on a 2-strike broken bat single by Young tying the game 2-2.

The Cardinals would threaten in the bottom of the 7th inning when JJ Wetherholt barely missed another home run flying out to deep right-center with a ball caught up against the wall by Rodriguez. Ivan Herrera walked, but was out on a force play when Alec Burleson grounded out. Burleson the pitch before had yanked a foul ball with home run distance. Jordan Walker grounded out to end the Cardinals threat in the 7th.

Ryne Stanek entered the game in the top of the 8th inning for the Cardinals to face the top of the Mariner’s lineup and he was sharp. He got Crawford out looking thanks to a nice ABS challenge by Herrera. Stanek would also punch out Cal Raleigh thanks to a 100 mph corner painter. He would strike out Rodriguez, too, with his 22nd pitch of the 8th inning which was a 101 heater that Rodriguez missed.

The only Cardinals highlight in the bottom of the 8th inning wasn’t a player, but a fan. After Nathan Church flied out to deep left field, Randy Arozarena flipped the ball into the stands which was caught by a gentleman who, without hesitation, handed the ball to a young girl. Well done, sir.

JoJo Romero came in to pitch the 9th for the Cardinals. He was able to retire Arazorena on a flyout to Jordan Walker in right field. However, Rob Refsnyder ruined everyone’s day with a pinch-hit home run into the Mariner’s bullpen in left field giving Seattle a 3-2 lead.

Jose Ferrer was brought in by the Mariners to face the Cardinals in the bottom of the 9th. He got Ramón Urías to flyout to Arazorena in left field. Yohel Pozo pinch-hit for Victor Scott II. He grounded out for the second out. That brought up JJ Wetherholt who popped out to third to end the game.

The St. Louis Cardinals begin a crucial 4-game series in Pittsburgh Monday night as Dustin May will get the start for the Cardinals. The Pirates have yet to announce their starter as of now. First pitch scheduled for 5:40pm central time at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya have offered conflicting perspectives on a potential rematch with Devin Haney while a rumoured fight with Conor Benn becomes more likekly.

Garcia claimed his world welterweight title in February, dethroning Mario Barrios with a unanimous decision victory after scoring a first-round knockdown.

Since then, his name has been linked most closely with Benn, the WBC’s No.1 contender at 147lbs, whose last outing was fought at a catchweight of 150lbs against Regis Prograis.

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Garcia confirmed this is the fight he wants.

“Devin Haney never wanted it. He don’t want the rematch at all … [I’m going to return in] August. I can’t wait. I only want Conor [Benn].”

In contrast to Garcia, Golden Boy promoter De La Hoya has told Fight Hype that he would “love” to make the rematch with Haney a priority.

“The one that interests me the most is the rematch with Devin Haney. That can be a blockbuster event.

“I would love to make that fight happen in Las Vegas at the Allegiant Stadium – that’s how big it can be.

“I believe that fight is the best fight to make right now.”

Garcia edged a majority decision against Haney in April 2024, only for the result to become a no-contest after he twice tested positive for banned substance Ostarine. It remains one of the most intriguing fights in boxing, particularly given the doubt over the first result and the fact that it is now a unification in the welterweight ranks.

However, Benn looks set to land his shot, despite recently signing with Zuffa Boxing, the sport’s newest major promotional company, whose frontman Dana White has no interest in working with the four traditional sanctioning bodies.

Esme Hamilton held off a challenge from fellow Englishwoman Cara Gainer to win her first European Tour title at the South African Open.

Hamilton started the day as joint leader with Slovenia’s Pia Babnik and stayed the course to finish two shots clear of Gainer.

The 26-year-old endured a difficult front nine, picking up a bogey on the third and a double bogey on the ninth, but settled on the home straight to end the day with a two-under-par 71.

It is the first time Hamilton has laid her hands on European Tour silverware, at the 22nd attempt.

Prior to this week’s event in Cape Town, Hamilton had only managed two top-10 finishes.

Gainer, 30, went into the final round in third place, and a shot adrift of the clubhouse leaders, but a one-under-par 72 meant she fell just short.
