SUN Blade-System 6000 teardown ($50'000 when new) (PWJ63)
We got some SUN/Oracle Blade 6000 systems for scrapping and I took one apart….
The chassis was about $5000 when new and the blade servers were $3500 to $6000 in basic configuration. Hard drives, CPUs and memory were billed extra. I/O cards too… .

Tupavco TP1701 – Rack Mount Fan – 4 Fans Server Cooling System – How To Video
Buy now: https://www.tupavco.com/products/tupavco-1u-19-rack-mount-fan-4-fans-server-cooling-system-heat-monitor-display
This unit finds use in a wide variety of situations, from home theater setups to server and computer network cabinets, to music and DJ equipment racks, and audio-video (AV) subtracts. The four high volume cabinet fans pump out 300 CFM of air through a top exhaust, providing a healthy flow stream to keep your setup cool.
The server cooler system is controlled by an easy to use, user-friendly programmable controller set through an LCD display screen, which is used to monitor the temperature of the system through a probe attached to the fan cabinet, telling the fan when to turn on. Automatic adjustments are then made accordingly to keep the airflow of the rackmount optimal. This keeps your valuable equipment operating at the temperature range of peak performance and is a safety check against overheating.
To set the minimum temperature at which the thermostat tells the fans to turn on, press the “S” button on the display. At this point, the display should start to blink. Then, adjust the displayed temperature with the up/down arrows by the display. This is the set “ON/OFF” Fahrenheit temperature for the system. Press the “R” button or wait until the display stops blinking to lock the temperature. .

How do you keep servers cool without building a dedicated cold room? You cool the rack! Today, I’ll be installing the Tripp Lite SRCOOL7KRM into my home server rack, and pushing all of the heat generated by the rack out of the house. Why cool down my 900 SQFT, uninsulated garage when I can cool just the rack itself?
A massive shoutout to Tripp Lite for sending over the SRCOOL7KRM and ducting kit to make this project possible.

Tupavco TP1701 – 1U 19" Rack Mount Fan – 4 Fans Server Cooling System – How To Video
Tupavco TP1701 4 Fan Cabinet Cooling Unit with Digital Display and Adjustable Temperature ON/OFF Control
Buy now: https://www.tupavco.com/products/tupavco-1u-19-rack-mount-fan-4-fans-server-cooling-system-heat-monitor-display
This unit finds use in a wide variety of situations, from home theater setups to server and computer network cabinets, to music and DJ equipment racks, and audio-video (AV) subracks. The four high volume cabinet fans pump out 300 CFM of air through a top exhaust, providing a healthy flow stream to keep your setup cool .
To set the temperature you want your system to be at, press the “S” button on the display, and hold for 3 seconds. At this point, the display should show “F1”. This is the “Set Temperature” parameter. Then, adjust the displayed temperature by simultaneously pressing “S” and the up/down arrows by the display. Once you have arrived at your desired temperature, press the “OFF” key to save the set system temperature, the display will then show the current system temperature.

– Noise controlled fans makes the cooling system useful for a quiet office or business space
– Compact design mounts to any 19″ inch cabinet and takes up only 1 unit of space
– Simple and easy to use LCD display allows user to control temperature
– Air pumped through to the top exhaust system of the fan .

So, ive watched, i really like theese system teardown, theese systems were designed for reliability, not built for a specific price. The engineer team didnt spare on quality components and design hours. Im a second year ee student in Hungary and i would like to ask(if i remember correctly you live on Europe) if is there any way that you would send me some DC-DC converters if i pay you the postage, and what would i do with 400A@12V(but it really depends on the price)? I would also want the power supply but i think i dont wanna pay that much for shiping(oh geez it looks so fantastic) 😀 I am planning to specialize in DC-DC converters and power electronics and i can't get my hands on theese kind of quality stuff. Great video, i love theese teardowns 😀

I always wonder what the engineers who design this sort of thing think the first time they turn it on. If it was someone who'd never heard one, they'd have to be shocked at the volume level. Like the guys who designed MRI machines in a quiet office somewhere and heard it in operation.

the removable design for those PSU fan units is super cool – professional audio amplifier manufacturers would do well to take a note of it !
@PrinceJohn84
October 8, 2024 at 3:17 am
Old video but fantastic teardown. I bought one of these power supplies for a project and they are monstrous things. Sun even produced a system that had an almost identical PSU in it but with three 12v / 240 Amp rails as opposed to two as in the video. Each of these supplies is capable of drawing 16 Amps per supply at full load (on 230v), so with all 4 supplies at full load, that's 64 amps out of the mains!! Not that the thing would ever come close to those dizzy heights but purely hypothetically, it's possible. I pity the person who had to pay the bill 😂😂😂
@Primetime94
October 8, 2024 at 3:17 am
Those look like SATA cables to me (not SAS). SAS cables combine power and data into a single cable. Also, you need a minimum of three drives for RAID-5. Since they only had two in the system, they would have had to use either RAID-1, RAID-0, or a JBOD.

$50,000 for that??? it is easily the worst example of an expensive professional system I have seen… (I mean the enclosure and powersupplies, the blades themselves are not so bad)
I wonder why someone would buy this instead of some separate 1U/2U servers, especially when you have only 3 blades.
