Maps for York Station Gateway closures during roadworks

City of York Council maps show which sections of roads are set to be closed overnight during highway works on the Station Gateway scheme.

Road users and people travelling to, from and in and around York Station have been urged to plan ahead before their journeys.

A new cycle diversion is set to be in place due to Toft Green remaining closed.

Cllr Kate Ravilious, council’s Labour transport spokesperson, said people should take public transport, walk or cycle where possible to help reduce congestion in the area during the works.

Cain’s gesture in Emmerdale for honorary Dingle Kammy will leave you teary-eyed | Soaps

Cain's gesture in Emmerdale for honorary Dingle Kammy will leave you teary-eyed | Soaps
The face of a happy man! (Picture: ITV/Metro)

Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is a lot of things, but on the odd occasion…he can actually be quite thoughtful.

This week, Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) feared she had fallen for another man’s manipulative ways when Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) told her that he believes Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) is the Emmerdale Farm firestarter.

Kammy looked like the culprit because Aaron and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) caught him in a field with a petrol can and lighter in hand. He revealed to the couple that he was planning on torching his car, but due to the fact Kammy didn’t reveal everything about his situation, it looked like the claim about his vehicle was just a cover up.

In reality, Kammy wanted to burn his beloved Kamilla for an insurance claim. He told best friend Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) that he wanted to pretend that the firestarter had burnt his car so he could get some money.

This led to Kammy revealing to Vinny that he’s currently homeless and has been sleeping in one of the barns on Robert’s farm. Belle arrived a few moments later, but left with a broken heart as Kammy couldn’t bring himself to tell her about the life he’s been living.

We finally learnt more about Kammy’s life this week (Picture: ITV)

He had a moving conversation with her yesterday though, and it came after Vinny told Aaron and Belle the truth about the young man. Kammy explained to Belle that his whole world fell apart when his father died. He said that he couldn’t handle being at home and witnessing his devastated mum attempt to process her grief, so he passed the time by stealing cars with his sister.

Kammy’s sister got into an accident at one point but he took the fall for her. He was very nearly handed a prison sentence, but the court recognised the troubled teens were trying to distract themselves from a family tragedy.

Still, because of Kammy’s choices, he left the home and his community. He berated himself for causing his mum so much pain, and believed everything that happened to him after was well deserved.

Kammy expected Belle to view him as someone ‘sad and alone’, but she was desperate to support him. That evening, Kammy sat at the dinner table with the rest of the Dingles and was told that he’d be looked after by them for as long as he needs.

This was very sweet, and Kammy was touched, but Cain realised today that there was actually a bit of a problem having another person live at Wishing Well.

At the moment, Belle, Cain, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), Kyle (Huey Quinn), Isaac (Bobby Dunsmuir), Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) all reside there, which meant adding Kammy to the mix made an already packed house even more cramped.

After being summoned to the scrapyard in today’s episode, Kammy was over the moon when Cain presented him with a caravan to live in, right by Wishing Well so he can still enjoy Lydia’s homecooked meals.

The caravan (if his car is called Kamilla, this definitely needs a name) is a bit run down, and Kammy definitely needs to add his flair to it, but it’s a space he can call his own.

Most importantly, though, it’s a home.

Mum of Archie Battersbee jailed after forcing driving off road believing he ‘bottled family member’

Published

on

Daily Record

Hollie Dance was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, while her son Thomas Summers was convicted of related charges

The mother of Archie Battersbee has been jailed after a road revenge incident against the ‘wrong’ man. Hollie Dance and her son Thomas Summers forced a man off the road believing he had ‘bottled’ a member of their family.

Dance, 50, was behind the wheel of a BMW in October 2022 as she pursued the victim’s Peugeot from Southend to Basildon in Essex, eventually forcing him off the road. DailyStar reports Dance is the mother of Archie Battersbee, who tragically passed away at the age of 12 in August 2022 following a High Court battle.

Her mitigation emphasised the “harrowing months” she had endured prior to her criminal behaviour. Prosecutor Richard Scott informed Basildon Crown Court that the other driver was “run off the road by Hollie Dance, forcing him into a tree” and ejecting him from his vehicle.

Her son Summers, 26, who was operating a rented Toyota, then “rammed into (the man) and sent him into a bush”, Mr Scott added. The prosecutor stated that the man sustained injuries including a fractured and dislocated shoulder and a foot fracture.

Mr Scott explained that the backdrop to the incident was that the defendants, both from Southend, “believed the complainant in this case had been involved in an incident in which another member of their family had been hurt”.

He revealed that the family member was Dance’s daughter, Summers’ sister.

In a victim impact statement summarised by the prosecutor, the man said he was “aware there were rumours I had bottled someone prior to the collision”. “I can confirm this is not true, this is something I would not have done,” the man declared.

Both defendants were convicted following an earlier trial of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. Dance admitted dangerous driving and was convicted of possessing a prohibited weapon – a gas canister.

Summers admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was convicted of affray. Archie Battersbee died after his life support was withdrawn following failed attempts to overturn a High Court ruling that doctors could lawfully do so.

An inquest later determined the boy, who was discovered unconscious with a ligature over his head at home in Southend, died accidentally in a “prank or experiment” that went wrong and had not intended to harm himself. Bibi Ihuomah, for Dance, said an expert described the defendant as “a woman whose life had been profoundly damaged by a terrible event”.

She continued: “She had been through five harrowing months. In the sixth month, which was August, her son’s life support was withdrawn. The night before the offences she had been assessed regarding her mental health status.”

Archie’s funeral took place on September 13, 2022, and Ms Ihuomah said “weeks after the burial of her son these offences were committed”. Mr Scott said Dance had previous convictions including for actual bodily harm (ABH) in 1996 and drink-driving in 2017.

Emily Lauchlan, for Summers, said it was an “impromptu pursuit without forward thinking or planning”. The judge, recorder Peter Clark, addressed the defendants, stating that the loss of Archie was “desperately sad” and that afterwards “somebody assaulted and injured your daughter and your sister”.

He emphasised that there are “correct ways to respond to unlawful behaviour”. “Your response was completely unlawful, you sought revenge,” he admonished them.

He further noted that “all the evidence suggests you sought revenge against a person wrongly identified as the perpetrator”.

He sentenced Dance to four years in prison and imposed a driving ban of 43 months. Summers received a five-year prison sentence and a four-year driving ban.

As she was led to the cells on Friday, Dance blew a kiss to the public gallery, while Summers made a peace sign when he was led down separately afterwards.

Woman visits ‘incredible’ Norfolk charity shop but 1 thing leaves her feeling ‘sad’

Published

Cambridgeshire Live

Caroline Butler, from Norfolk, is well-known online as Caroline Shops, and regularly shows some of her amazing discoveries. She recently shared a video following a visit to a charity shop in a Norfolk town.

There are so many incredible deals to be found in the thousands of charity shops up and down the UK, from clothes and fashion accessories, to toys and records, and much more. One bargain-hunter with a combined social media following of more than 600,000 people revealed some of the discoveries she uncovered in one charity shop – and why the visit left her feeling “quite sad”.

Caroline Butler, from Norfolk, is well-known online as Caroline Shops, and regularly shows some of her amazing discoveries. She recently shared a video following a visit to a charity shop in a Norfolk town.

Opening her video, Caroline said: “I came to a charity shop this bank holiday weekend, and I was not happy about the customer service I received.”

Continuing, she said: “Ninety-nine per cent of the time I have incredible service at charity shops, but this was the exception. Now, don’t get me wrong, the charity shop is incredible and I got some bargains, however, while I was in there they criticised social media, grilled me about how I made my money as a content creator, were seemingly very disparaging about my career, and I left feeling really quite sad about the whole exchange.”

She revealed she had visited the Pricilla Bacon Hospice Charity Shop in the town of Diss, saying she had found some “really good stuff”. Among her findings was a like-new Radley purse for £6. “Radley purses aren’t cheap, and this one really did look like it had minimal wear,” she said.

She also displayed a silver and black Austin Reed dress, which she described as a “bargain” at £15, adding: “I wish this had been in my size.” Other discoveries included a black and red Whistles blouse for £5.95, a red Windsmoor top for £3.95, and a lime green Lands’ End cardigan for £4.

Caroline also uncovered a Seasalt dress with a floral pattern for £12.50, which she described as “maybe a little bit pricey.” Other discoveries included a brand new multicoloured pair of Nike shorts for £4.50, and another pair of red shorts, on sale for £9.95, as well as floral summer dress for £4, and a bright pink tote bag for £6.

She also displayed a red t-shirt with the 1960s cartoon character Batfink, describing it as “a blast from the past”, on sale for £3.95, as well as an England t-shirt for £3. “The shop really is laid out beautifully and I love this bric-a-brac section,” she said.

Showing off some of the items in the section, she highlighted a “stunning” perfume bottle for £4, and a model of a “rather grumpy-looking” westie dog for £1.50. “They’ve got a beautiful section for children, with toys and games and kids wear,” she added, showing a Winnie-the-Pooh spinning top for £2.50, and a mysterious action figure, who Caroline described as a “scary fella”.

Concluding, she said: “Like I say, the shop is beautiful and there’s loads of bargains, but I wasn’t happy with the customer service.”

People in the comments added their own views. One said: “It’s time they accept in 2026 reselling and social media platforms are a real thing.” Caroline clarified she is “not a reseller”, to which the commenter added: “Doesn’t matter, even if you were a reseller, and you are on social media. The point is that staff should treat everyone the same, especially as these are both what many people are doing in 2026.”

Another said: “I went to a charity shop the other week, I got dirty looks from them. I walked in wearing a hoodie and leggings with my two kids and judging by their prices I should [have] gone in with a Bentley.”

And someone else said: “Beautiful shop. But people are the problem always. No one has the right to criticise you. You help the shops by showing place and stock. What a shame.”

The Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity fundraises for the Pricilla Bacon Lodge, in Colney, Norwich, where specialist hospice care is provided by the East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust. The charity was contacted for comment.

Champions League final: Jurrien Timber fit to start Champions League final, says Mikel Arteta

Arteta also dismissed the suggestion that the pressure is off for Arsenal, having already won a trophy in the shape of a first Premier League title in 22 years.

“No, the ambition is bigger, we have one [trophy] and we want the second one,” said the Spanish manager.

“That is all we have been talking about. There has to be a platform to reach bigger destinations and to aim for more.

“The team is capable because they have shown it in the last seasons [in] this competition, what we have done this season in the competition.

“I want the players to be so confident that we are going to go and do it.”

PSG come into the match as favourites and the French side defeated Arsenal in the semi-finals of the tournament last year.

They are looking to become only the second team to win back-to-back titles in the Champions League era.

“They are defending the trophy and they are the champions and we are here to take that away from them,” Arteta said.

Busy road next to Cambridgeshire train station to close for 3 weeks as works take place

Published

on

Cambridgeshire Live

A diversion will be available

A road next to a busy Cambridgeshire train station is set to close for three weeks while works take place. Greater Cambridge Partnership has announced that Station Road will be closed to vehicles at the Shepreth level crossing for approximately three weeks from Monday June 1.

This is part of the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP)’s work on the Melbourn Greenway, which aims to make walking, wheeling and cycling from Melbourn into Cambridge easier and safer. The closure of Station Road in Shepreth will prevent all vehicle access to and from Barrington Road via the level crossing.

Access to the station, local businesses and Docwra’s Close will remain open and managed through temporary traffic lights. Vehicles may need to follow a diversion. Pedestrian routes, including those over the level crossing, will remain open for the duration of the work.

As part of the project, the GCP said Shepreth will benefit from new, more accessible crossing points, including outside Shepreth Village Hall. There will also be new double yellow lines on Station Road, which aims to reduce congestion and improve safety around the level crossing, and a new 20mph zone from the Barrons Green / Fowlmere Road junction to Shepreth railway station.

Works also include raised tables at key junctions to slow vehicle speeds and support safer crossings along Fowlmere Road. Traffic‑calming measures on Fowlmere Road, including speed humps, a reduced speed limit, and upgraded street lighting, will also be completed.

Kerry Allen, GCP Project Manager, said: “These works are a key part of creating a safer and better‑connected route for everyone who travels through Shepreth. Once complete, the improvements will support safer crossings, calmer traffic and a more welcoming environment for walking and cycling.

“We know this work will cause some short-term disruption and would like to thank the community for their patience as we move closer to delivering the benefits of the Melbourn Greenway.”

Chris Hansen has cryptic response to Robert Pattinson playing him in To Catch A Predator movie

Chris Hansen has cryptic response to Robert Pattinson playing him in To Catch A Predator movie

Chris Hansen, the former host of NBC Dateline’s true-crime series To Catch a Predator, has reacted to Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of him in A24’s new eerie drama Primetime.

Set to arrive in theaters this September, the forthcoming movie tracks the origins of the hit investigative news program, which ran from 2004 to 2007 and followed Hansen’s operations to catch adult men arriving at a sting house to have sex with minors. Primetime also features Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine, and marks director Lance Oppenheim’s narrative feature film debut.

The film’s first trailer was released earlier this week, and teases Pattinson’s strikingly transformed voice as Hansen. “At the end of the day, man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Do you agree?” he says in a voice-over. “Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC, and you’re about to be a part of television history.”

Appearing on a recent segment of News Nation, Hansen, 66, addressed the movie’s first look.

“What? There’s a movie trailer?” he exclaimed, feigning shock. “What will they think of next?”

“He’s an actor, right? Young, talented guy?” he asked of Pattinson before being shown the clip.

“I mean, he sounds a lot like you,” argued newscaster Jesse Weber. “Did you have any idea about this? Did you have any working relationship with this?”

“We had heard that there was something like this in the works,” Hansen replied. “They reached out to me this week, and I’ve been asked not to talk about it a great deal at this point.”

When Weber again suggested Pattinson’s impression was fairly accurate, Hansen somewhat agreed. “Little bit,” he said. “Very dramatic.”

Hansen presented NBC Dateline’s To Catch a Predator across its entire three-year run. The series was canceled in 2008, following the suicide of Texas assistant district attorney Bill Conradt after he was “caught” and served an arrest warrant during production.

Hansen first joined the network in 1993 as a correspondent for Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric. He has won a total of eight Emmy awards throughout his career for his investigative reporting.

Food recall warnings at Tesco, Waitrose & Morrisons

Food recall warnings at Tesco, Waitrose & Morrisons

The warnings come after multiple products sold nationwide were recalled over potential health risks.

The Food Standards Agency has issued several “do not eat” notices affecting items stocked across major supermarkets.

Customers who may have purchased affected products are being advised not to consume them.

Officials say anyone who has bought the products should follow recall guidance, which may include returning items for a refund or disposing of them safely.

Morrisons recall

Morrisons is recalling one of its Morrisons Savers items from supermarkets across England, Scotland and Wales because it may contain pieces of glass.

The supermarket chain has recalled the Morrisons Savers Cashews as a result of the possible presence of glass.

The affected items come in packs of 125g and have best before dates of August 9, September 6, September 26, September 28 and October 9.

A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Morrisons is recalling the above product.

“Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling it. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.

“If you have bought the above product do not consume it. Instead, return it to the nearest store for a full refund.”

A Morrisons spokesman added: “No other products are affected by this issue.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”

Gü recall

Shoppers at Tesco and Waitrose have been issued a “do not eat” warning after a Gü dessert was recalled.

The Gü Double Sea Salted Caramel Frozen Dessert, sold at Tesco and Waitrose, has been removed from supermarket shelves because it may contain hazelnuts and soya not mentioned on the label.

As a result, the dessert is a health risk to anyone with an allergy to nuts or soya.

The affected product has a lot number of 126135 and a best before date of June 30, 2027.

A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Gü is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to hazelnuts (nuts) and/or soya do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“No receipt required. For more information, please contact recall@gupuds.com.”

A Gü spokesman added: “The issue is limited to a very small number of products (believed to be less than 10 units). However, as a precautionary measure and in line with our commitment to consumer safety, the affected date code is being recalled.

“We have taken proactive steps to further mitigate the issue, including strengthened allergen and packing controls within production.

“We believe the majority of consumers who purchased the affected products will already have been contacted or notified.”

What is a product recall?

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued.

This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.

Mikel Arteta makes Champions League final admission after ending title wait

Published

Daily Mirror

Arsenal are set take on French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday evening as they continue their hunt for what would be a historic double

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal’s “ambition is bigger” to win the Champions League as he eyes a historic double. Arsenal boss Arteta dismissed any suggestion there is less pressure on his players now after they won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.

Instead, Arteta says they are determined to win another trophy and complete a historic season because Arsenal have never won the European Cup before.

Arteta said: “The ambition is bigger. We have one, and now we want the second one. That’s all we’ve been talking about. There has to be a platform to reach bigger destinations and to aim for more.

“And the team is capable, because we’ve shown it in the last two seasons, in this competition. What we’ve done this season in the competition, and I want the players to be so confident that we’re going to win.

“I think it’s the opportunity to own the moment, because, as you said, it’s the second time in our history that we are here, and we have the opportunity tomorrow to write a new chapter in the history of this football club.

“And in order to do that, we have to play tomorrow. With such a clarity, a lot of courage, and a relentless desire to win. We have those three aspects, and I’m sure we’re going to be close to winning.

“The players want more, I think. Going through those moments brings you a different kind of desire, because you lift it, you know exactly how it feels, and you want to reproduce that feeling as many times as possible. And tomorrow we have the opportunity to do that.

“It would mean something new for all of us, and we know how tough it is in a club like Arsenal to write a new history. But that’s the aim, and that’s why we are all so excited and we have such a desire to make it happen.”

Arteta accepts that Paris Saint Germain will start as favourites – but is super confident that his players can upset the odds.

Arteta added: “Well, they are defending the trophy, so they were the last ones that had the right to lift that trophy, and they are actually the champions, and we are here to take that away from them.

“But I feel it, it’s great, we’ve done it, we earned it, we’ve fought for so long in the Premier League to achieve that after 22 years, and now we have another opportunity to do it.

“And the journey that we have in the competition shows that we are capable of doing that tomorrow, and the boys are, you know, with the level of desire at the maximum, for sure.”

US fast food chain to rival McDonald’s as it comes to UK

Chili’s Grill & Bar has confirmed it is relaunching in the UK after more than 15 years, with hopes of eventually opening more than 100 restaurants across the country.

Chili’s originally arrived in Britain during the 1990s and operated restaurants in places including Cambridge, Reading and London’s Canary Wharf.

However, by 2009, every UK branch had closed.

Now, the company is making a fresh attempt at cracking the UK market, aiming to open a flagship restaurant within the next 12 to 18 months before it aims to roll out more sites, reports Need To Know.

The brand has partnered with The Franchising Centre on these relaunch plans.

Industry insiders say they believe the chain could open between 85 and 100 restaurants if successful.

Potential locations currently being considered include London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Reading, and Solihull, according to reports.

It’s the latest US food brand to venture into the UK market, following the likes of Popeye’s, Dave’s Hot Chicken, and Chick-fil-A.

John Overdijking, franchise recruitment specialist at The Franchising Centre, told Propel Hospitality about the company’s plans.

He said there are “significant” opportunities for the brand in Britain.

Mr Overdijking added that Chili’s could operate using several different formats.

This includes full-service restaurants, compact city sites as well as fast-casual locations.

However, it’s thought that the chain’s initial focus will be on traditional sit-down restaurants.
