Joey Barton Slammed For Angry Ginge I’m a Celebrity Comments
Popular Manchester United supporter and Baller League manager Angry Ginge – real name Morgan Burtwistle – has taken to the jungle in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in search of winning the well-watched competition and Joey Barton has been slammed for mocking the internet personality.
A huge hit on the ITV show alongside fellow Mancunian and rapper Aitch, whose birth name is Harrison Armstrong, Angry Ginge is a regular at Old Trafford to watch his beloved boyhood club in the flesh. But the Salford-born streamer has taken a break from watching Ruben Amorim‘s men.
Sportspeople – including Harry Redknapp, who was crowned King of the Jungle in 2018, and former boxer Tony Bellew – have been a staple part of the jungle show since its inception in 2002, and Angry Ginge, alongside former Lioness Alex Scott, were the two stars that entered the jungle this year with a connection to sport.
Angry Ginge and Alex Scott’s Winning Chances Revealed: I’m a Celebrity 2025 Odds
The odds of Angry Ginge and Alex Scott winning I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here have been revealed.
Angry Ginge has made a name for himself in the online sphere, but he has since taken part in a number of football-related events over the years – including Soccer Aid in 2025 when he went viral for a crunching tackle on ex-United striker Carlos Tevez. Barton, however, has taken aim at the 24-year-old.
“I’ve seen you cry on the telly! I’ve seen him crying for his ma the other day and I’m like, ‘How old are you?’. He’s only been away for a couple of weeks – it’s not like his ma’s died. Why you crying? Honest to God,” Barton said, on his controversial Common Sense podcast, in response to Angry Ginge breaking down in tears as he admitted to missing his family.
Angry Ginge, who is likely to earn north of £100,000 for his participation per reports, broke down in tears when Lisa Riley read out a letter from home – a tradition in I’m A Celebrity folklore – and that rubbed Barton up the wrong way.
“When you get out and watch this Angry Ginge – you’re crying because you haven’t seen your ma for a few weeks – don’t be talking about proper dudes like me in public.”
“I’m not saying he’s a bad lad, by the way,” Barton continued before insinuating that Angry Ginge ‘playing computer games’ from the confines of his bedroom is why he has shown a vulnerable side in Australia. “There was three separate occasions where he broke down in tears. That’s what happens if you’re sitting in your bedroom playing computer games. Get out, get yourself about.”
While he remains in the jungle in pursuit of following in the footsteps of player-turned-pundit Jill Scott, Sam Thompson and Danny Jones, those online have rushed to Angry Ginge’s defence. “What a strange, strange man,” one wrote in response to Barton’s remarks as another added: “The world would be a better place if Joey Barton just shut his mouth.”
“This is why men are afraid to show their emotions. If the man wants to cry cos he’s missing his mum, so what? He’s human.”
“Sad little man,” another added, as a fifth reiterated the fact that Barton’s comments are damaging to men who want to open up emotionally. “And people wonder why men bottle up their emotions. Joey’s just an insecure little man, who thinks showing any emotion is weakness, rather than a strength.” Put bluntly, a final fan commented: “This is low.”
Inside Joey Barton and Angry Ginge’s Previous Feud
This isn’t the first time that Barton, who played for Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle United during his career, has received backlash for comments regarding Angry Ginge’s endeavours. Hitting out at the Sidemen Charity Match, a charity event which Angry Ginge was part of, when a clip of IShowSpeed went viral, the former midfielder wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“How is Wembley rented out a week before a League Cup Final for the R***** Bowl? F****** embarrassing. Those clowns shouldn’t be anywhere near the hallowed turf. Especially, the big fat f***** in a bandana.”
In response, the current I’m A Celeb star said: “He was calling us every name under the sun. At the end of the day, Joey Barton is f***ing slagging us all off, but when I went to Misfits, his son asked me for a photo. I don’t think he actually understands social media. He can sit behind a camera begging it with his greasy f***ing head,” Angry Ginge continued in response to the 43-year-old’s comments. “The guy’s son’s begging for photos, and yet he wants to start calling us, the guy needs to get a grip of his own f***ing life.”
