After big-screen international intrigue turns in movies like No Time to Die and Ballerina, Ana de Armas is taking her spycraft to the small screen. She’s circling a role in Safe Houses, a new spy drama from AppleTV. Also set to star on the series is Top Gun: Maverick‘s Jennifer Connelly.
According to reports, the series is based on the 2018 Dan Fesperman novel of the same name. It centers around the mysterious murder of a CIA agent in Madrid, and two women who are determined to get to the bottom of it. De Armas will play Sofia Jiménez, a fellow agent who’s been framed for the murder, while Connelly will play Ambassador Elizabeth Winthrop, the dead man’s widow. As the two race towards an inevitable collision, they uncover a global conspiracy. It will be de Armas’ first major television appearance since the early days of her career, starring on the Spanish TV drama El Internado.
De Armas has been on an action tear recently. After a scene-stealing and henchman-kicking performance in No Time to Die, Daniel Craig‘s swan song as James Bond, she starred in the actioners The Gray Man (alongside Ryan Reynolds and Chris Evans) and Ghosted (alongside Adrien Brody and Evans, again). Last year, she headlined the John Wick spin-off Ballerina, starring as a renegade assassin out to avenge the murder of her father. She also played a manipulative baroness in Ron Howard‘s historical survival thriller Eden. She is next set to star as an obsessive fitness influencer in the psychological thriller Sweat, from director J Blakeson (I Care a Lot). Meanwhile, Connelly has kept a low profile lately after starring alongside Tom Cruise in the mega-hit Top Gun: Maverick. She starred in and executive produced the dark comedy Bad Behaviour in 2023, and currently stars in the AppleTV science fiction series Dark Matter alongside Joel Edgerton.
Safe Houses was created by Gideon Raff (Homeland). He will also executive produce alongside Alexandra Milchan, and with Paul Lee and David Flynn for Wiip. Raff will also direct several episodes, as will Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders). Sara Gonzalo will produce, while author Fesperman will serve as a consulting producer.
Ana de Armas and Jennifer Connelly are circling the lead roles on the new Apple thriller series Safe Houses; no release date has yet been announced. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
Despite recent examples of success, such as the Walton Goggins- and Ella Purnell-led Fallout, video game adaptations remain a major point of controversy in the film industry. Among these video game adaptations to struggle, it is often those in the horror genre that prove most painful, as die-hard fans are regularly let down by cheap interpretations of a beloved original IP. This, sadly, is the fate that has befallen Return to Silent Hill, the third movie installment in the Silent Hill franchise.
After making its debut on January 23, any excitement about a long-awaited return to one of horror gaming’s best titles was destroyed as both critics and fans delivered damning reviews of the movie. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, an audience score of 30% is positively glowing compared to critics’ 18%, with the consensus on the site reading, “A visually tacky sequel that lumbers along with a plodding pulse and lacking the thematic resonance that distinguished its source material, Return to Silent Hill gets lost in the haze.” In Ross Bonaime‘s review of the movie for Collider, he called it “an ugly, laughable adaptation that proves that maybe we should’ve never gone back to Silent Hill.”
At the U.S. box office, the movie hasn’t found much luck either, with its disappointing second week compounded by a recent third that saw the movie slip from 12th in the charts to becoming unranked. Thanks to a drop in theaters from 1,608 the week before to 273 this past weekend, Return to Silent Hill earned just $115,559. On Sunday, revenue fell 89% to $35,000 compared to the prior Sunday, even as the number of theaters showing the movie declined.
Against a reported budget of $23 million, Return to Silent Hill‘s dismal $5.5 million domestic haul to date suggests it could be one of the worst flops of the year financially. However, the film has proven much more popular internationally, with a $13 million run in China so far, helping take its global total past the $25 million mark. That being said, any chance of this proving a successful financial venture for those involved remains slim.
Return to Silent Hill is available to watch in some theaters. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest box office updates.

The development comes hours after authorities released surveillance footage appearing to depict “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s alleged kidnapper.
Yesterday, Virgin River fans were treated to a sight for sore eyes when Netflix dropped the debut trailer for the show’s highly-anticipated seventh season. Now that it’s been more than one year since the title celebrated its Season 6 finale, patience is waning within the fandom for more episodes of the cozy drama that stars Alexandra Breckenridge (My Secret Santa) and Martin Henderson (The Ring). While going back and binging the entirety of the series is certainly on the to-do lists of some fans, others are turning to the streamer’s on-point equivalent to keep them going during these trying times.
Set in the titular Northern California town, Virgin River follows the lives of an intertwined community, who share their highest highs and lowest lows with one another for better or for worse. From what we saw in yesterday’s trailer, there are plenty of exciting things looming over the horizon for the title’s Season 7 return, including the potential of Mel (Breckenridge) and Jack (Henderson) getting the family they’ve always wanted and the comeback of the town physician, Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson), after a slight stumble.
If these small-town tales are the kind that you find yourself drawn towards, and you want to get to know an entirely new cast of characters ahead of Virgin River’s next batch of episodes, you can join the already growing list of people from around the globe who are tuning into Sullivan’s Crossing. According to FlixPatrol, the Virgin River replacement series is a worldwide success, nabbing the sixth spot on Netflix’s coveted Top 10 chart. The spike in viewership is notable, as the third season aired last spring and summer, meaning months have passed since new episodes were released. And yet, perhaps thanks to a Season 4 greenlight, Sullivan’s Crossing is making its way back into the spotlight.
If Sullivan’s Crossing feels eerily familiar during your first watch-through, that’s because it hails from the same mind behind Virgin River. Both projects are based on the beloved novels by Robyn Carr and feature powerful leading ladies who leave their lives in the big city behind to strike out in smaller surroundings. Leading the cast of Sullivan’s Crossing is a lineup that includes Morgan Kohan (When Hope Calls), Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls), Tom Jackson (Outlander), and Andrea Menard (Supernatural).
Sullivan’s Crossing is now streaming on Netflix.

Charli XCX is having a bit of a moment, literally, on the big screen. Her A24 mockumentary, The Moment, went wide in theaters over the weekend and built off a record-breaking start as a limited release to outperform lingering Oscar contenders like Marty Supreme and Hamnet at the box office. The film itself satirized and capitalized on the momentum of Brat Summer, following the pop icon in the run-up to her arena tour debut after a culture-defining breakout season thanks to her smash hit album. Now, however, she’s already gearing up for her next stint on the big screen in April, which will focus less on her identity as a superstar and more on romance.
1-2 Special released the first trailer for her new film, Erupcja, a fiery drama about a luxurious getaway between a couple that quite literally erupts into chaos. Charli plays Bethany, who finds herself trapped in Warsaw, Poland, with her soon-to-be fiancé, Rob (Will Madden), after the eruption of Mount Etna keeps their flight home grounded. The unexpected event leaves Bethany questioning things, despite having what looks like a loving relationship on the surface. In the footage, she and Rob appear to have a strong bond, learning certain phrases like “You’re welcome” in Polish and reminiscing about how romantic and beautiful Warsaw can be. However, knowing that he’s about to propose, she opts to meet with an old friend to catch up, party like old times, and express her fears about committing to him. While he’s “nice,” she notes that, with Rob, “the Earth doesn’t shake,” and she’s not certain that’s what she wants for the rest of her life.
Like the volcano itself, the trailer builds towards an eruption of emotions with a montage of scenes of a worried Rob and an unsure Bethany moving through lofts, clubs, and back alleys while trying to get a grip on her sense of self. There always seems to be a volcano going off wherever they go, and, after talking with her friends, she takes it as a sign that maybe she needs to shake things up. The tension and drama will only keep bubbling to the surface until they untangle the emotional web between them and finally confront what they both need. Lena Góra gets much of the spotlight alongside Charli and Madden, with Jeremy O. Harris rounding out the main cast.
At the helm of Erupcja is indie director Pete Ohs, who previously directed last year’s The True Beauty of Being Bitten By a Tick, which featured Harris, and Love and Work, which starred Madden. He also co-wrote the screenplay with both Charli XCX and Góra and produced the film with the pop star alongside Harris, Luke Arreguin, Josh Godfrey, Malia Paul, Alexandra Tynion, Olivia Tyson, Will Westwater, and Cham Zhao. Unlike The Moment, which debuted to more mixed reviews, the romantic drama earned a more favorable reception from critics upon its Toronto International Film Festival debut, earning an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. For all the tension between Bethany and Rob, it’s been hailed as another chill hangout film from Ohs that shows a different side of Charli XCX’s talents as an actor.
Erupcja is set to premiere in theaters on April 17. Check out the trailer in the player above.

A massive police presence lit up the quiet town of Rio Rico, Arizona late Tuesday night and it’s all tied to the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy.
Videos online show a swarm of law enforcement vehicles descending on a neighborhood less than 15 miles from the Port of Nogales, a major U.S.-Mexico border crossing.

The person detained for questioning’s mother-in-law told reporters outside the house her son-in-law was the person detained, but insisted he has nothing to do with Nancy’s disappearance.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed they’re conducting a court authorized search at the location as part of the ongoing investigation into Nancy’s disappearance.
We broke the story … law enforcement sources told us the person of interest that was detained by sheriff’s deputies for questioning earlier on Tuesday is NOT a member of the Guthrie family.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, the person was stopped during a traffic stop south of Tucson.
As we first reported, Guthrie’s disappearance has sparked growing concern and a multi-agency effort to track down answers. Now, with federal agents on the ground and a search underway near the border, the case appears to be intensifying.

As we told you, the abductor was promising to return Nancy to Tucson within 12 hours of receiving the $6 million ransom … which means they’re currently somewhere within a roughly 700-mile radius of Tucson.
There were 2 ransom deadlines, both of which have passed … even though Savannah tried reaching out to the kidnapper and even offered to pay up.
Tuesday afternoon we noticed activity for the first time in the Bitcoin account listed in the first ransom note that was sent.
This morning, the FBI released the first images of Nancy’s apparent kidnapper … and the feds blasted the footage out to the public on the same day they received the info.
Nancy has a pacemaker and needs daily medication. The feds have been offering a $50,000 reward “for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance” … anyone with information is asked to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit tips.fbi.gov.
The new guests just keep arriving at The White Lotus. The fourth season of HBO’s acclaimed dark dramedy anthology is adding another notable name to its cast. Actor and comedian Sandra Bernhard will be jetting off to France with the rest of the show’s new cast.
According to reports, Bernhard’s role, like that of her fellow new cast members, is being kept under wraps for now. She joins Helena Bonham Carter (Fight Club), Steve Coogan (I’m Alan Partridge), Caleb Jonte Edwards (Black Snow), Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games), Chris Messina (The Mindy Project), AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs), and newcomer Marissa Long. Like all previous seasons, the series will be set at a luxury resort operated by the fictional White Lotus corporation; judging by the previous three seasons, season 4 will likely also climax with the death of a guest or staff member. After previous seasons took place in Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand, this season will move the action to France; it will be filmed at a 19th-century palace-turned-luxury hotel, the Château de La Messardière, in Saint-Tropez on the Côte d’Azur. It will also film in Paris and on the French Riviera, and may coincide with the Cannes Film Festival.
A native of Flint, Michigan, Bernhard began to gain attention as a stand-up comedian in the late 1970s; she became a household name when Martin Scorsese cast her as obsessive stalker Masha in 1981’s The King of Comedy. She was a frequent guest on Late Night with David Letterman, and often collaborated with her close friend and fellow Michigander Madonna. Openly bisexual, she recurred on Roseanne as Nancy, one of the first bisexual characters on American network television. Other notable film roles include Hudson Hawk, Babes, and last year’s A24 hit Marty Supreme. She has also recurred on The L Word, Brooklyn Nine-Nine (as the mother of Chelsea Peretti‘s character), and 2 Broke Girls. She recently starred on AppleTV’s Severance as Nurse Cecily, and guested on Percy Jackson and the Olympians as Anger, one of the Gray Sisters.
The White Lotus is created, written, and directed by one-man band Mike White. Initially intended as a miniseries, its smash success in its first season resulted in its expansion into an anthology series, following a new group of guests and staff members every season. It has won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards to date.
Season 4 of The White Lotus is in pre-production; no release date has yet been announced. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Quinton Aaron couldn’t move and was “shaking uncontrollably” when his “spiritual wife” called 911 for help ahead of his hospitalization last month.
In the 911 call obtained exclusively by Us Weekly, Margarita — who is not identified in the audio but confirms with Us she made the emergency call for firefighters and paramedics — detailed the frightening moments that led to The Blind Side actor being rushed to the hospital where he was put on life support.
“My husband is six-foot-eight, 370 pounds. He’s laying on the floor, and he’s shaking,” Margarita, who is not legally married to the star, told the 911 operator. “His upper body is shaking uncontrollably, and he can’t feel his legs.”
Margarita held her composure, calmly telling the operator, “He has no mobility. He’s telling me he can’t move. And he’s literally laying on the floor, like he’s dead weight. I’m gonna need some help.”

She then informed the 911 operator that Quinton’s “body locked up on him and his jaw and his eyes rolled back just a little bit.” She said he told her, “’I can’t move, can’t move,’” as she shared, “He could barely talk.”
“He said it feels like his throat is closing up on him,” she told the operator.
When asked whether he might be having an allergic reaction, Margarita informed the 911 operator that Quinton, 41, hadn’t been drinking or eating much and noted, “He’s missed dinner all this week” due to his back pain.
According to her, Quinton had been taking an anti-inflammatory for the pain, but it wasn’t helping.
“I haven’t been asleep for like three days because we’ve been dealing with his back pain for a few days, and today, it just took a toll for the worse,” she said on the call.
While waiting for help to arrive, Margarita addressed Quinton directly.
“I’m gonna put socks on you, but I don’t know if I can because you keep jerking. I’m trying to get all this done, Quinton,” she told him.
After the call was made, the actor was put on life support at an Atlanta hospital. His family later shared he had suffered a “spinal stroke.”
Sources close to Quinton’s loved ones exclusively told Us last week that Margarita had been “banned” from his hospital room while they investigate their suspicions of her further. (On February 3, his relatives publicly questioned the legitimacy of the pair’s marriage and accused Margarita of not being a registered nurse, as well as being married to someone other than Quinton.)
“We are spiritually married. We are tied as one,” she confirmed to Us following their allegations.
When asked about her hospital ban, Margarita responded, “I’m OK with it, I’m at peace with this. Quinton and I pray a lot and believe in God and believe in a higher power. I can feel his presence telling me this will work itself out.”
Days later, Quinton’s family gave a positive health update ahead of the Super Bowl.
“Quinton is in a jovial mood, now laughing and smiling and is communicating to the best of his ability while he continues to recover,” his loved ones said in a statement on February 6. “He’s watching TV and getting ready to root for his favorite team this weekend.”
Quinton is best known for his portrayal of former NFL offensive lineman Michael Oher in The Blind Side. Tim McGraw, Lily Collins and Sandra Bullock also starred in the 2009 film.
There’s good news for fans still mourning S.W.A.T. after CBS dissolved the squad last year. However, the news isn’t all good. S.W.A.T. Exiles, a new spin-off series that will star the returning Shemar Moore, has wrapped filming its inaugural season. There’s only one problem: it doesn’t have a “home base” yet.
According to reports, no TV channel or streaming service has yet acquired the series. However, the series is apparently attempting to follow in the footsteps of recent streaming hits Heated Rivalry and The Hunting Wives, both of which were fully completed series that didn’t find a home until they were in the can…and then went on to become big hits for content-hungry streaming services. While homoerotic hockey drama Heated Rivalry went to HBO Max and the steamy, soapy Hunting Wives found a home on Netflix, it’s Prime Video and the Fox TV network that have expressed interest in housing S.W.A.T. Exiles. The series will be screened by production company Sony for both domestic and international buyers in the coming weeks and days, when it will likely find a home.
Picking up where S.W.A.T. left off after its season 8 series finale, S.W.A.T. Exiles stars Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr., a veteran of the Special Weapons And Tactics squad. Retired after the conclusion of S.W.A.T., he’s pulled back into action after a high-profile mission goes sideways, and assigned to lead an experimental new S.W.A.T. team full of raw and untested recruits. It will star Lucy Barrett (Charmed), Adain Bradley (The Bold and the Beautiful), Zyra Gorecki (La Brea), Freddy Miyares (Grey’s Anatomy) and Ronen Rubinstein (9-1-1: Lone Star). Guest stars will include Rebecca Romijn (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Jerry O’Connell (Sliders), and Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions); Lenora Crichlow (Bel Air) will recur. Meanwhile, several of Moore’s S.W.A.T. squad mates will be joining him in guest roles, including Victor Tan (David Lim), David “Deacon” Kay (Jay Harrington), and Robert Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit).
S.W.A.T. is a remake of a short-lived 1970s TV series; created by mega-producer Aaron Spelling, it was popular, but was swiftly cancelled as part of a backlash against violence on television. The reborn S.W.A.T., which debuted on CBS in 2017, ran into cancellation problems of its own; it was cancelled by CBS after its sixth and seventh seasons, but was swiftly renewed instead both times, although its third cancellation proved to be permanent. The series also inspired a 2003 film starring Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell.
S.W.A.T. Exiles has completed filming its first season; it has not yet found a broadcast or streaming home. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

General Hospital reveals Drew Cain Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) being held prisoner by his angry wife, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), which frankly he deserves. I think we can all agree on that. But eventually, somebody is going to figure it out. Katelyn MacMullen said that it was all going to come out in a recent interview she did. And it was going to lead to the worst moment of Willow’s life.
We’re going to talk about what unlikely person rescues Drew in a big twist coming on General Hospital.
All right, let’s dig into the messiness ahead. So, right now, Drew is in his own home with a hospital bed all set up. And Willow’s telling everybody she’s going to take really, really good care of him. But then once she got Drew settled in, Willow wasted no time, and she went off on Drew. Absolutely shocked him.
She unleashed everything she’s been holding in. Willow has been pretending to still be in love with Drew, to be loyal to him. And playing the devoted wife. It was pretty glorious when Willow told Drew she’s the one who shot him twice in the back, but of course he survived, which was not her plan at the time.
Willow blamed Drew for his own shooting and for what’s happening now and said she really tried to find another solution, but she couldn’t. And Willow then read off a big laundry list of his foul deeds and crimes. She called out Drew for everything, including sabotaging her visit with Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) when she went to the clinic in Germany.
Then Willow brought up that awful incident that upset Wiley Quartermaine Corinthos (Viron Weaver) when he let the kid hear him lying and saying Michael didn’t want him around now that he had baby Daisy. On top of that, Willow told Drew that her only regret was he didn’t die when she shot him. That was awesome.
Willow also told Drew he didn’t have a stroke. Willow drugged him into collapsing, faked the stroke. And she’s causing Drew’s locked-in syndrome. She plans to keep drugging him to keep Drew paralyzed and in that bed until Willow decides she’s done with him.
Of course, General Hospital fans are loving that Drew’s finally being punished for all the rotten things he’s done to so many people. But we also know eventually he is going to be saved. But hopefully not too soon. I’d like to see Willow torment him for a little while before he’s saved.
Now let’s talk about a big GH twist I expect to see. I suspect it’ll be a real bombshell when the ABC soap reveals who saves Drew and ends the misery of his captivity and torture at Willow’s hands. I suspect it will be somebody very unlikely who rides to his rescue. Somebody whose help he doesn’t deserve.
The first possibility as Drew’s improbable savior is his twin brother Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). These two hate each other, but him saving Drew could go a long way to rebuilding their bond as brothers. I think that we could see something like Drew using Morse code to signal Jason with his eyes to let him know he’s a prisoner.
Drew was a Navy SEAL, so he should absolutely know Morse code. That’s the sort of thing I also think Jason probably has picked up since he worked in that paramilitary group Pikeman for those couple of years. If it is him that saves Drew, that’d be a game-changer. Maybe in the end he and Jason could become real brothers in a way that they never have been before.
Another person I suspect might save Drew is actually someone who’s likely to save him. Unlike the other people on my list, we could see Kai Taylor (Jens Austin Astrup) saving Drew because he’s already suspicious of Willow. Kai might look at the medications that Willow has sitting around that room and just do some googling and research.
Since Kai knows that Willow is the one who shot Drew, he is worried that Willow may hurt Drew while he is stuck in that bed. So even though Kai doesn’t like Drew anymore, he’s still going to look out for him because Kai’s a good guy.
He told Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) he can’t just leave Drew alone with his murderous wife Willow. I could totally see Kai figuring out that Willow is doing something with the medications, and then Kai might alert somebody else and then together they save Drew.
Another really unlikely person that might save Drew is Michael. That would be the ultimate irony. If he found out that Willow was torturing Drew, I think Michael might consider for a minute just letting it go on given that Drew stole his wife and his life and that he wants Michael in prison.
But in the end, I think he would save Drew if he figured out what Willow was doing. Primarily because if Michael exposed Willow, he could permanently block her from seeing their kids. Even if she can’t be prosecuted for shooting Drew, the custody court would absolutely consider it if there was that confession and Drew said, “Okay, Willow confessed it to me.”

Another really unlikely person that might save Drew from Willow is another person that really hates Drew, his aunt Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). She already saved Drew once when Willow shot him because Tracy showed up. She called the ambulance and got him the help he needed.
Now, she may save Drew a second time. But like Michael, if Tracy found out Willow was tormenting Drew, she might decide to leave him to suffer at Willow’s hands for a little while longer and then go back in and save Drew. If it is Tracy who rescues Drew, I don’t think that she would do it for his sake.
I think Tracy would do it to help Michael keep Willow away from the kids. Also, Tracy might like to hold it over Drew’s head for the rest of his life that no matter how awful he is, Tracy saved his life not once but twice. Drew might actually then make amends with the Quartermaines, beg forgiveness, and be a better human.
The last person who might save Drew to me would be one of the most unlikely given recent events, and that is Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth). That would be the ultimate irony since Drew stood there over him while Ned was lying on the ground in agonizing pain having a coronary, and of course Drew didn’t lift a finger to help.
Instead, he accused Ned of faking the heart attack and walked away. All the Quartermaines are furious about this. So Drew better hope it’s Ned who finds out he’s trapped at Willow’s mercy. Because if Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero) found out, I think she would walk away, never look back, wouldn’t tell anybody, and wouldn’t save Drew.
But I could see Ned going over there to visit Drew, to see for himself what’s going on, if he’s really trapped inside his own body, and check on his cousin because Ned has compassion. If he realizes that Willow is keeping Drew prisoner and medicating him to keep that paralysis going, I do think that Ned would do the right thing.
He might consider leaving Drew to his fate, but I think Tracy and Olivia are more likely ones to leave Drew to wallow in captive misery than to save him. But Ned is a good guy. He’s a forgiving person, and I think he would absolutely save Drew.
I think Tracy probably would save him, too. But Olivia, nah, I think she would laugh at Drew and close the door behind her on the way out. I feel like this whole ordeal in the end is meant to demonize Willow, make her into a permanent villain, and to redeem Drew. I don’t think fans are necessarily going to ever accept him, but I think that’s the plan of the writers.
So, having somebody that Drew has done dirty wind up saving him, of course, would be the soapiest outcome. My favorite choices to save Drew are either Michael or Jason. I think that would be the biggest drama. We’ll see how it goes.
