R-Rated Mad Max Ripoff Is An Ambitious Seek And Destroy Disaster

By Robert Scucci
| Published

You know what’s a pretty good indicator that a movie is going to be a total disaster? When it’s called Def-Con 4 (1985), suggesting that we’re in a profound state of imminent danger, which would actually be DEFCON 1. Everything about this movie is as misguided as its title, but like a trainwreck, or a crash-landed space station, it’s impossible to look away. The film starts out as a space-based Cold War thriller, but somehow ends up traversing the wasteland like Mad Max. Watching these genres collide is jarring because there are so many different ideas and set pieces competing for attention.

For a film shot on an $800,000 budget, it’s actually pretty impressive how many scenery changes there are in Def-Con 4. But here’s the counterpoint: it’s pretty obvious why this one only earned a little over a million dollars at the box office, barely breaking even on its production budget. Even worse, the film has an abysmal 19 percent Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes across more than a thousand ratings, and in this case, the numbers don’t lie.

Def-Con 4 1985

Having sat through the whole thing out of morbid curiosity, I can’t in good conscience recommend Def-Con 4 to anybody who actually wants to watch a decent movie. But if you’re willing to stick around for something fueled almost entirely by raw potential, you may find yourself wondering what other kinds of work writer-director Paul Donovan was involved with. That road eventually leads to LEXX, one of the raunchiest sci-fi series of all time.

That’s A Lot To Unpack in 88 Minutes

Def-Con 4 opens with one of the most wonderfully misguided bits of Cold War optimism you’ll ever see, assuring viewers that the ultimate nuclear defense system has made global conflict “unthinkable.” Naturally, within minutes, the world is on fire. Set aboard the orbital weapons platform Nemesis, the film follows astronauts Cecil Howe (Tim Choate), Eva Jordan (Kate Lynch), and Walker (John Walsch) as they watch helplessly from space while escalating tensions between the United States and Soviet Union erupt into full-scale nuclear war. Cut off from Earth and unable to determine if anybody survived, the crew is eventually forced back to a planet they barely recognize.

Def-Con 4 1985

Once on the ground, Def-Con 4 shifts into full post-apocalyptic mode, introducing a wasteland populated by desperate survivors, paranoid militias, and enough homemade armor plating to make George Miller blush. Along the way, Howe crosses paths with world-weary survivalist Vinny McKinnon (Maury Chaykin), the imprisoned J.J. Jameson (Lenore Zann), and the increasingly unstable Gideon Hayes (Kevin King). What follows is a low-budget but surprisingly ambitious mix of nuclear paranoia, survival thriller, and dystopian sci-fi that feels like somebody tossed The Day After, Escape from New York, and a VHS copy of Mad Max into a blender and hoped for the best.

Ambitious To A Fault

As much as I wanted Def-Con 4 to succeed, it was pretty much doomed from the start. Like most lower-quality Mad Max clones, it’s undone by its own overambitious worldbuilding. The film constantly asks you to bite off more than you can possibly chew, and then, when you’re begging for something to wash it all down, it busts out the hotdog cannon to finish you off.

Def-Con 4 1985

It’s not that any of its plotlines are difficult to follow either, which is what’s most tragic about Def-Con 4. The story beats are perfectly serviceable, but they never have time to fully develop before we’re onto the next thing. I could see it working as a movie closer to the two-hour range, where its conflicts actually have time to meaningfully gestate, but they don’t, so everything feels rushed in the worst possible way.

While I maintain that Def-Con 4 isn’t 19 percent bad, it’s not exactly a diamond in the rough either. In terms of raw potential, it’s an impressive feat when you consider its financial limitations. But if less attention had been focused on worldbuilding and more on characterization, we’d have a pretty fun adventure on our hands. It’s still a fun watch, but ultimately underwhelming when all is said and done.

As of this writing, Def-Con 4 is streaming free on Tubi.

General Hospital Early Spoilers June 22-26: Carly Panics in Total Chaos – Britt Suffers Deadly Collapse!

Published

on

General Hospital Spoilers: Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) - Britt Westbourne's (Kelly Thiebaud)

General Hospital early spoilers for the week of June 22nd through the 26th stun with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) going into panic mode when a search warrant is served that puts everything at risk. Plus, Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) collapse could be fatal and a cry for help might come too late.

We’re going to get into what is coming the week of June 22nd including big big stuff for July sweeps which kicks off next week. And as we always do on early edition day, we start with what is happening the rest of this week and then we talk about what is ahead for next week.

General Hospital Spoilers: Lulu’s Transparency and Cullum’s Search Warrant

With that in mind, let’s dive right in. On Wednesday, June 17th, Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) is transparent with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), which is a nice change. I think we can all agree. And this may come after an intense talk with Lulu, Dante and Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), possibly also after she has a talk with Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey).

So, Cullum has been talking to the dirty WSB agents under his control, and he’s wondering why Dante and Lulu haven’t involved the FBI in Rocco going missing, which they should be as a kidnapping across state lines.

So, Cullum shows up to interrogate Dante and Lulu and asks, “What exactly are you protecting her from?” And I’m assuming the her is Britt. And what’s ironic is it’s Cullum that they are protecting Britt and Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) from since they all know that he shot Cullum, but Cullum doesn’t know that Rocco’s parents know.

GH Spoilers: Chase on the Spot

So, Dante asked Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) up at the PCPD whether he was following the law or what Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) wanted him to do when he arrested Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). So, is he doing this for Willow or doing the right thing? I’m sure Chase is going to deny anything inappropriate and reminds Dante that Tracy has a history of doing dodgy things, which is true.

Also, Ethan Lovett (Nathan Dean Parsons) pulls a fast one on Friday. He stole evidence and we know he’s insisting on a closed adoption. Plus, he still has Ava Jerome (Maura West) wanting a price for her silence about him being Phoebe’s dad. Although, a lot of fans still don’t think Ethan is really her father. He may be protecting a secret.

General Hospital: Valentin’s Mission and Carly’s Search Warrant Shock

So, also we’ve got Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) all done up in a suit. He’s ready to sneak over to Geneva and talk to mystery person Z for help taking down Cullum and saving Josslyn from Spoon Island. Valentin is about to go and he tells Carly that he doesn’t know if they will see each other again.

They’re both emotional and may be interrupted because Carly is shocked by who’s at the door. It is Cullum who’s got a search warrant to go through Carly’s house looking for Valentin. Now, Charlotte Cassadine (Bluesy Burke) is also over there saying goodbye to her dad, Valentin, and she’s still there when Cullum shows up. Now, hopefully Valentin’s already gone by then, or he sees him coming and runs off. This was triggered by the trace on his call that went to Anna’s clinic.

General Hospital Spoilers:

Also, Tracy demands answers from Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton). So, Tracy’s ranting at her granddaughter and wants her to tell her if she believes Willow or her. As long as Chase isn’t around, I’m sure Brook Lynn will tell the truth.

And this may be when she tells Tracy that she is framing Willow as the other driver in Jordan Ashford’s (Tanisha Harper) crash. We also have Willow taken off guard by Felicia Jones (Kristina Wagner) on Wednesday and she tells Willow she made an arrangement for Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) to start communicating.

Remember, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Felicia were talking about Liz offering Willow some way for Drew to communicate and they thought it was strange she turned it down. And at this point it’s going to be hard for Willow to refuse.

We also have Scout Cain having scenes played by a one-day recast. Cossette Abinante wasn’t available to film that day and soon she’s going to get her rapid age-up recast.

General Hospital Spoilers: Rocco’s Discovery and July Sweeps Preview

So, we may see her with her dad, Drew, and maybe he’s communicating to Scout, but he really can’t lay all this out for her. Thursday, June 18th, Rocco is horrified when he finds Britt collapsed. So Rocco comes in and he finds Britt down on the floor of the cottage where they’re hiding. Looks like she’s completely unconscious. Rocco’s yelling, “No, no, no.” He runs to check on Britt. Then he makes a phone call asking for help. I suspect that Rocco may call Cassius because of events that unfold on Thursday and also because Britt is his sister. Meanwhile, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) tells Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) about his strategy.

Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) doesn’t want to know anything about Sonny’s plans to get rid of Sidwell and Cullum permanently. But I’m sure Ric’s happy to listen to Sonny’s murder plans when Ric’s not busy planning the party with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn). I’m enjoying watching them bicker over Molly Lansing’s (Kristen Vaganos) big book launch event. Meanwhile, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) sets a trap. He hates Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), so it might be Sidwell coming for him or Sonny or Laura or even Ava if he’s looking to get to her to ask for help.

General Hospital Spoilers: Dante Confides in Liz

Plus, Laura makes somebody an offer. We’ll see if it’s to help Lulu or Sonny. and Dante goes up to General Hospital to vent to Elizabeth. So Dante may be looking for advice or help or just a sounding board. Quick note, in a recent interview, Dominic Zamprogna, who plays Dante, seems really interested in Elizabeth and Dante being together. And at a fan event, he confirmed that there is no Lulu and Dante reunion ahead even after she finds out about Cassius.

Speaking of him on Friday, June 19th, Cassius has some information for Lulu. And this could be that Rocco has called Cassius because he remembers how much Cassius went to a lot of effort to protect him and because it’s his sister Britt who’s collapsed and he may think that Cassius knows something about her Huntington’s. So, Cassius may update Lulu. I do wonder if Rocco is going to give Cassius their location, which could be really dangerous.

General Hospital Spoilers: Carly Spencer – Britt Westbourne

General Hospital: Ethan’s Message and July Sweeps Begins

Ethan delivers a message to Ava. He may be trying to shut down her blackmail. And Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) is alarmed. Hopefully, Cullum doesn’t show up to tie off that loose end. It could be Carly coming to tell him about Cullum and the search warrant. I’m sure him showing up at her house could change Valentin’s plan to go see Z, like Brennan said, which would honestly be bad for them all.

Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) considers her next move. This may be about the music showcase or her problem parents. And Felicia offers somebody some encouragement. It may be Drew. You know, Willow may be unable to stop Felicia from coming to see him with the communication board. So, we’ll see if Willow has what she needs to blackmail Drew. If Brennan can’t get it, not yet. You know, Willow may be able to convince Drew that she has it anyway.

General Hospital Spoilers: Sidwell’s Getting Desperate for Revenge

Then the week of June 22nd through the 26, big stuff coming because on Thursday, June 25th, July sweeps kicks off, carries on through July 22nd. Sidwell’s getting desperate for revenge. He doesn’t want to walk away from all the big plans he’s made in Port Charles. And we have heard a rumor that Cullum is dead during July sweeps, and I will say yay to that.

Carly, of course, was horrified when Cullum searched her house, and we’ll find out the fallout from that. Meanwhile, Carly is sweating that Josslyn may be running out of time while she’s trapped at Wyndemere, presumably there with Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati). We know as viewers that they are together, but Carly is assuming Brennan needs to get out of Turning Woods before Cullum comes to finish him off and Sonny pushes forward with his plan to get rid of the villains.

Brooklyn continues with her scheme to discredit Willow and spread lies that she was the driver who left Jordan and Curtis for dead in a car crash. Brooklyn is honestly on a road to crash her own marriage. Time’s almost up for Willow with Drew and the Brook Lynn plot both. So, I think we’re going to see Willow facing big trouble in sweeps.

Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is also back in sweeps and actor Dominic Zamprogna confirmed she will be back as police commissioner soon. And Lulu may take action if Cassius tells her Rocco reached out. And we’ll see what happens in the aftermath of Britt’s collapse. That is a signal that her Huntington’s is in a dire situation.

Bold and Beautiful Early Spoilers June 22-26: Katie’s Shocking Betrayal Revealed – Wyatt Saves the Day!

Published

on

Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Katie Logan (Heather Tom) - Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks)

Bold and the Beautiful early spoilers for the week of June 22nd through the 26th stun with Katie Logan (Heather Tom) shocking betrayal exposed and Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) coming through in a big way for his family.

So, we’re going to get into what is coming the week of June 22nd, including the kickoff of July sweeps. And as we always do on early edition day, we’re going to start with what is going on the rest of this week and then we will get into what is going to happen next week.

Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Steffy’s Last-Minute Offer and Sheila’s Surprise

On Wednesday, June 17th, we’ve got Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) making an offer at the last minute, and that should change everything for somebody. Now, I fully expect that this is Hope and Steffy’s conversation that began on Tuesday that will carry over onto Wednesday.

And this, of course, was after Steffy shared some suspicions with Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) because Steffy told Brooke that she thinks that Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) is hiding something. So, Steffy claims to know what Hope is up to, but I don’t think Steffy knows.

She may accuse Hope of taking the leave of absence to make a statement and force her hand. And Steffy tells her, “Okay, you can come back now. It’s time to relaunch.” And she may tell Hope, “We really want you here.” However, Steffy may actually be on a fishing expedition like her namesake Grandma Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery).

Because she’s clearly already suspicious of Hope. And Steffy’s conversation with Brooke might have planted the seed when she told Steffy that Katie can only hire Spencers. Because unlike Brooke, we know Steffy is analyzing every angle of every deal. I expect her to gauge Hope’s reaction during their conversation, expecting her to say, “Yay, I’ll be here tomorrow.” Which, of course, she can’t do.

B&B Spoilers: Spencers on Edge

Meanwhile, Katie, Bill Spencer (Don Diamont), and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) are all on pins and needles waiting to hear back. They are very worried about Hope and what Steffy wants with her, and they may need to talk Hope down after this interaction because once Steffy tells Brooke what she said, then we’re going to see her ecstatic, thinking that Hope is going to be back to Forrester Creations right away.

And we are getting closer to Brooke’s epic tantrum and the inquisition she engages in over at Logan. Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) and Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig) are rattled on Wednesday. So, Deacon’s canoodling with Taylor at her office at the hospital when somebody barges in without an appointment, without knocking. Taylor screams, Deacon shocked, and guess what? It’s Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown). So, what does she want and how long until Taylor runs this news back to Steffy?

Bold and the Beautiful: Dylan’s New Assignment and Brooke’s Confrontation

On Thursday, June 18th, Miss Dylan (Sydney Bullock) is caught off guard when she gets a new boss at Forrester Creations. Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire) was her boss on the fragrance line, but it could be retasking her to work with RJ Forrester (Brayan Nicoletti) or Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace).

Or they may tell Dylan that they want her on Hope for the Future now that it’s coming back, except as we know, it’s not. We find out what Sheila is really up to and why she showed up and busted in on Deacon and Taylor at her office. So, we’ll see what Sheila says she wants and whether her stated reason for popping up and her actual motives align because she’s always got ulterior motives.

And we may see her leave this encounter with Deacon and Taylor and run back to her secret roommate. And again, I’m thinking Remy Pryce Christian Weissmann) or Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda). If it’s one of them, I hope it’s Remy because Finn Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) and Steffy might ban Li from their lives for cohabitating with Sheila. Plus, it’d be super weird if Finn’s two moms turned out to be roommates.

Bold and Beautiful Spoilers: Brooke Ready to Celebrate

Friday, June 19th, we’ve got Brooke ready to break out the champagne and celebrate with Hope for the end of her leave of absence and the relaunch of Hope for the Future. And with Brooke gushing like this, that puts Hope in a corner, and she’s likely gonna have to lie and offer some excuses about why she’s not ready to come back, which of course won’t make any sense to Brooke because Hope’s sabbatical was only supposed to be until Steffy brought back the line.

So, then we may see another chat between Brooke and Steffy that could be the catalyst for Brooke going over to confront her little sister, Katie. This is a confirmed spoiler, but I don’t have the exact date. It may be the end of this week, but I tend to think it’s more likely to happen next week. So, Brooke is going to storm into Katie’s office at Logan and just goes wild on Bold and the Beautiful.

Hope is scrambling to hide behind the partition and she’s shocked at the way that Brooke is ranting at her little sister. And Katie is also in shock when Brooke demands that she tell her who’s her new designer and she needs to tell her right now. And when Katie refuses, Brooke threatens to search every room and hall at Logan until she finds out who it is.

Bold and the Beautiful: Wyatt’s Diamond Deal and July Sweeps Begin

And then Katie tells Brooke she’s being ridiculous, but she amps up and tells Katie that she will do it. Try me. I dare you. So, Brooke’s ready to go tear the place apart until she gets the answer, which means she’s suspicious. Now Katie knows that Hope is panicking, so she keeps Brooke distracted so Hope can sneak out of the office while Brooke’s back is turned. And Katie antagonizes Brooke, saying if she wants to know who the new designer is, then she can find out at the launch tomorrow with everybody else.

So, I suspect these spoilers are for the week of June 22nd based on the outfits and the context, but it is coming very soon. Meanwhile, Bill and Liam get a big pitch from Shauna Fulton (Denise Richards) and Wyatt, and it looks like they are proposing a jewelry line that they would both design together. I still think there’s something going on there. We’ll see. So, after Shauna asks, “Do we have a deal once the presentation’s done?”

Bill says, “Not so fast.” Says he needs something from Wyatt. And of course, Bill wants the real big blue hope diamond. Bill is not going to settle for the fake one that Wyatt showed Liam. So, with Hope’s line nearly ready to launch, Bill is eager to lock the jewel down for the debut.

Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Katie Logan (Heather Tom) - Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks)Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Katie Logan (Heather Tom) - Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks)
Bold and the Beautiful Spoilers: Katie Logan – Wyatt Spencer

B&B Spoilers: Huge Stuff Coming for July Sweeps

Then June 22nd through the 26th, it’s going to be big stuff. We’ve got July sweeps kicking off on Thursday, June 25th. And I expect to see both Eric Forrester’s (John McCook) new couture launch and Hope’s new collection at Logan also debut during sweeps. Wyatt and Shauna are going to cut a deal with Bill on their proposal.

If it’s a yes, Logan’s going to get even bigger even faster because their jewelry design team should outstrip just Electra working alone at Forrester Creations because she was pretty much Ivy Forrester’s (Ashleigh Brewer) assistant designer until her aunt had to walk out when she got exposed for all the things she did. So, I kind of don’t think Electra is up to the level that Wyatt and Shauna will be.

Bold and Beautiful Spoilers: Will Wyatt Deliver?

Also, we will find out if Wyatt comes through with the real Hope for the Future diamond for the launch. RJ and Dylan keep heating up and she’ll soon share an update with Electra on her love life. Will Spencer (Crew Morrow) is going to face more pressure from Electra about Katie’s new designer.

We’re also going to have Brooke and Katie’s feud reaching a nuclear detonation level during sweeps. Once Hope walks the runway with Deacon at her launch and Brooke finds out her sister and daughter lied to her and betrayed her. Steffy and Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) are going to go berserk as well.

Katie will remind Brooke that she said she could hire Spencers and Hope is a Spencer. That’s not going to hold water, though. And Brooke will probably turn around and grill Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis) and she’s going to have to admit that she knew this whole time. This could honestly fracture the Logan sisters for good.

We’ll also find more about what Sheila has in store for Deacon and Taylor. More on Sheila’s mystery roommate, and I’m curious to see if Remy’s going to blab Deacon’s big news about being on the Logan design team to Sheila.

Young and the Restless Early Spoilers June 22-26: Nikki’s Health Rapidly Deteriorates – Diane Terrified!

Published

on

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) - Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters)

Young and the Restless early spoilers for the week of June 22nd through the 26th reveal Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) health deteriorating and she is going to get a really scary diagnosis. Meanwhile, Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) is terrified, held captive, and is scrambling for a way to save herself.

We’re going to get into what is coming the week that starts June 22nd, which sees the kickoff of July sweeps. And as we always do on early edition day, we’re going to begin with what’s going on the rest of this week and then get into what is happening next week.

Young and the Restless: Diane’s Captivity and Nikki’s Health Crisis

So, on Wednesday, June 17th, we’ve got Diane, still captive, poking around Dr. Markham’s (Jere Burns) house while he’s away. And she finds a cell phone, but unfortunately it needs a password to open. And then the doctor shows up. So Diane quickly hides the phone away and she tells Markham she accepts that she’s had a breakdown.

But Diane doesn’t want to be transferred to a clinic and she asks him if she can stay. So, she badgers Markham until he agrees to at least consider letting her stay instead of being transferred. I’m sure that’s going to cost Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) more money, though.

Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) gripes to Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) about their wedding venue not being available, and Sally asks about them having their ceremony at the Abbott mansion, but Billy says Diane’s missing, Patty’s moved in, and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) had to kick everybody else out. Sally worries that Jack’s in danger from Patty, but she also wants Billy to mostly focus on them.

He agrees that Sally comes first and she discourages Billy from confronting Patty and derailing Jack’s sneaky plan. Also, Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James) corners Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) and he’s ranting about Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) making him CEO and Devon’s raging about Cane disappointing Lily and their kids so many times.

Young and Restless: Lily’s Trust in Cane and Nikki’s Confrontation

Meanwhile, Nikki confronts Lily about her deal with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). But it turns out Nikki’s actually more upset that Lily made Cane CEO of Chancellor. So, Lily thinks that Katherine would have approved and says that Cane deserves it and a second chance as well. And Lily reminds Nikki that she loves Victor even after all the awful things that he’s done. And Nikki says some things are unforgivable. I don’t know how she thinks Cane is worse than Victor who paid Patty to rape Jack. And this isn’t the first time that he has paid someone to molest Jack. So sorry, not sorry. I’m team Lily on this.

Devon continues berating Cane and calls him a bad influence on Lily. Right as she walks in, she tells Devon that she believes in Cane, but Devon says Lily is going to regret ever trusting Cane again and storms off. Lily apologizes to Cane, but he says Devon’s justified. Lily takes Cane to see his new CEO office, and he asks Lily again, doesn’t she want to run Chancellor? So, they talk about Katherine always rooting for them and that Chancellor has brought them back together and they’re having kisses and sweetness.

Y&R Spoilers: Jack’s Deception and Patty’s Escalation

Jack tells Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) they have to move out and they agree to it to help save Diane. And then Patty shows up with all her emotional baggage and her regular baggage and drapes herself across Jack talking about their love. Tracy and Kyle are playing along with it and talk about how disgusted they are and that they’re certain Jack’s going to come to his senses. Kyle rants about never forgiving Jack for this. And then he and Tracy storm out.

Patty plops down on the couch talking about how it’s great to be home, but Jack rejects it when she tries to kiss him and says they got to take it slow. Jack demands that he gets to speak to Diane’s doctor and Patty says she’s waiting on contact info. She is lying right to his face on Young and the Restless.

Young and Restless Spoilers: Nikki Going Downhill

At the Genoa City Athletic Club, Nikki is struck by another awful headache when Traci shows up to check in and she tells Nikki and Lily that Diane is missing, that Patty’s behind it, and that Jack had to kick them out. And Traci says Jack’s playing along with Patty to protect Diane while they try and find her.

Nikki says she’s gonna go see Jack, but Tracy says, “Please don’t let Patty know that Jack is playing her.” So, Nikki goes over to the mansion, asks Jack what’s he thinking, threatens to throw Patty out.

Nikki’s headache gets worse as Patty joins them, and Nikki reminds her Jack is a married man and says Patty belongs in a mental institution. She reminds Nikki her own marriage is in the toilet and that she knows she hates Diane, too. And Patty says, “Leave us and go away.”

Nikki calls her crazy and then leaves. Patty tells Jack she moved into a guest room, but says her door is unlocked and she is sure that Jack will be in her bed soon and forces a kiss on him. Outside, Nikki’s eyesight goes all wonky and she’s so wobbly that she can barely keep standing.

Young and the Restless: Matt’s Orders and Victor’s Schemes

Thursday, June 18th. Victor sets things straight with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth). So, he’s reluctant to go dark again, but Victor is insistent that he follows orders. Also, we have Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) slapping at Cane, hitting him where it hurts. So, I think Phyllis is going to rub it in Cane’s face that Victor gave her Arabesque. But I can see Cane clapping back that he got Chancellor and he got Lily. Phyllis and Victor are both going to hate how happily smug that Cane is.

Meanwhile, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) is stressing over Nikki’s health problems after she nearly collapsed outside Jack’s house. It looks like Victoria is not gonna let up until Nikki agrees to go to the doctor, which she will very soon.

Young and the Restless: Phyllis’ Discovery and July Sweeps Preview

Friday, June 19th, Phyllis comes across valuable info. This may be about Patty, Diane, or something to do with Matt. Also, Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun) snaps on Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver). Noah Newman’s (Lucas Adams) much older lover is clearly jealous and feeling threatened. And Victoria opens up to Claire Newman (Hayley Erin). This could be about Nikki and her health issues, but I think Victoria may also be ranting about Victor yanking Chancellor away from her and giving it to Lily without even giving her a heads up. Another crappy thing that Victor has done to his family.

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) - Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) - Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters)
Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki Newman – Diane Jenkins Abbott)

Young and Restless: July Sweeps Erupts with Major Plot Developments

The week of June 22nd through the 26th, things really heat up because July sweeps kicks off on Thursday, June 25th. Cane and Lily keep getting closer. It’s not going to be too long until they’re hitting the sheets and she and Cane are going to have to deal with all the haters that are mad about him being CEO and their romantic reunion. Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) is back to Genoa City soon, but I’m not sure she’s going to stick around. We’ll get more on Matt’s efforts to get closer to Cane. I do wonder if Matt might wind up just confiding in Cane.

Noan is going to be stuck mediating between Audra and Sienna, but will he enjoy the attention? Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) recovery hits roadblocks during sweeps with a relapse heading his way and Victor amps up his plan to destroy Cane. Victor is more enraged after hearing that Lily appointed Cane CEO of Chancellor, but Matt may push back on what Victor has ordered him to do.

Y&R Spoilers: Nikki & Victor Reunion Coming

Victor and Nikki are on a path to reuniting because of her health struggle, but at first we’re going to see her hiding it from Victor because she doesn’t want her scary diagnosis to be what brings him back. So, Nikki is going to head to the doctor soon and she finds out something terrible is wrong with her.

Very time-sensitive, a new diagnosis. It’s not her multiple sclerosis. Also, we’ve got Diane struggling while stuck with wicked Dr. Markham and she’s desperate to find a way to get out. That cell phone should dial 911. You can always dial emergency without a passcode. I maybe she’ll figure that out soon. Meanwhile, Jack’s trying to play Patty, who’s gonna lose patience soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if she drugs Jack again and slips back in the sheets. And the same day that July sweeps kicks off, Thursday, June 25th, watch for recast Jill Abbott (Lauren Koslow) in the role for five episodes only.

Days of our Lives Early Spoilers June 22-26: Kristen Horrified by Major Bombshell – Xander Seeks Redemption!

Published

on

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) - Xander Cook Kiriakis (Paul Telfer)

Days of Our Lives early weekly spoilers for the week of June 22nd through the 26th indicate we’ll see Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) horrified when the sins of her past come back to bite her. Meanwhile, Xander Cook Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) is trying to atone for his past sins. But it might not go well.

We’ve got exciting stuff coming the week of June 22nd, and as we always do on early edition day, we begin with what is happening the rest of this week on Days of Our Lives, then dive into next week’s action, which includes the kickoff of July sweeps starting on Thursday next.

Days of Our Lives: Johnny Learns Xander’s Confession and Philip Apologizes

All right, Wednesday, June 17th, we’ve got Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) getting a confession from Xander. Looks like he’s working a 12-step type of program for his anger management therapy, trying to be a better man, as Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) advised. So, Xander admitted to Johnny that yes, the Titan team set him up.

I’m curious if Xander is going to keep Kate Roberts’ (Lauren Koslow) name out of it or if he thinks it’s okay to mention it since she told Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) the truth. We’ll see how Johnny reacts. He’s already stressed about Chanel Dupree’s (Raven Bowens) cancer. But Johnny’s pretty even-keeled. I tend to think he’s more upset about Kate’s involvement because it’s not like he had a high opinion of Xander.

DOOL Spoilers: Philip Visits Theo

Anyway, also on the Kiriakis apology tour is Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier) who goes to see Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson). And it could be that Philip’s apology is for Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) falsely accusing Theo of blabbing the secret to him about the hidden bug. I’m curious to see if Philip will tell Theo that it was Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) who told him on Days of our Lives.

Days of Our Lives: Chad & EJ’s Jealous Rivalry and Gabi’s Warning to Leo

Chad DiMera (Connor Floyd) and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) are both jealous of each other’s relationships. Of course, Cat Green (AnnaLynne McCord) using EJ and isn’t really dating him. However, EJ thinks it’s real, so he’ll be sure to rub it right into Chad’s smug face.

And I think he’s going to rub it right back in EJ’s smug face that he and Belle Black (Martha Madison) are very happy together. But of course, we know that Chad is the one that Cat really wants and EJ is going to be crushed when all that comes out. But it’s not coming out for a while.

Gabi tells Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) to take a whole step back. I’m sure this is about Gabi trying to keep Leo out of Javi Hernandez’s (Jacob Martinez) life. Gabrielle doesn’t want her primo to have to deal with Leo messing up his love life now that Javi is happily dating hunky firefighter Gus. But I don’t think Leo is going to back off.

Also, look for new Javi actor Jacob Martinez to debut on June 30th as we get into the next week of sweeps. Looks like Al Calderon might have already had his last air date by the way. But we’ll see. He landed a role on Brilliant Minds and an NBC prime time drama which unfortunately just got cancelled.

Days of Our Lives: Kristen’s Day of Reckoning and Ralph’s Medical Breakthrough

Thursday, June 18th, Johnny gets a warning from his murderous auntie, Kristen, and this may alert Johnny to Kristen playing some role in the attack on him by Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) that nearly killed him. Kristen’s day of reckoning is going to come in July sweeps.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wilhelm Rolf  (Richard Wharton) has promising news for EJ, who’s been frantic about Lexie Carver’s (Nikki Crawford) troubling symptoms. So Rolf ran a bunch of tests. He’s thoroughly checked out Lexie. And this week, Rolf shows EJ what he came up with. It’s a vial of some new super serum that Rolf concocted to address Lexie’s ill health and hopefully fix everything.

Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) and Theo are both there to support their sister Chanel as she gets her port surgery and then she is going to begin chemotherapy very soon. Although Paulina would still like Chanel to get a dose of Rolf’s super serum.

Maybe it would work on Chanel since she wasn’t terminal like Lexie was. Also, it is Abe Carver’s (James Reynolds) and Paulina’s Juneteenth wedding anniversary. And of course, Paulina is worried sick about Chanel and she doesn’t have her husband Abe there to support her. And naturally, he’s glad that Lexie’s alive again and still loves her. But that doesn’t mean his love for Paulina has just evaporated.

Days of Our Lives: Holly’s Collapse and Kristen’s Confessions

Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis) and Tate Black (Leo Howard) romantic interlude is interrupted. So, they were getting frisky while an annoyed Aaron Green (Louis Tomeo) and Ari Horton (Vico Escorcia) went kayaking. But then all the young people have a night outside under the stars by the fire. So this week, either Thursday or Friday, Holly is sitting outside with them. But she collapses and Tate catches her.

It could be that Holly maybe has gotten some of those same DiMera Enterprises Pharmaceutical pills that were problematic and caused Destiny Rowland (Sarah Bartholomew) and Clea to get sick. Or maybe Holly messed up and had a cocktail on top of her new anti-depressants. Maybe not even on purpose. You know, maybe she thought she was drinking juice.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: Lani Geills Kristen

Friday, June 19th, Lani Price (Sal Stowers) has some questions for Kristen. They’re hanging out at the DiMera mansion. And I wonder if Kristen might confess to her gal pal Lani that she did something that she can’t take back. However, I don’t actually think Kristen regrets trying to have Johnny killed.

I think Kristen’s only regret is that it didn’t work. And after the chat that Johnny has with Kristen, he’s going to alert EJ about something. So either Johnny figures out Sophia was working with Kristen or something that Johnny tells EJ will have him reaching that conclusion because Kristen is about to be in a whole heap of trouble.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: EJ & Kristen Face Off

Very soon, EJ faces off with Kristen and EJ is screaming in her face in a blind rage that she tried to murder his son. So also we’ve got Kristen getting snatched soon and I’m sure it’s a henchman working for EJ. We’ll see if she’s missing and presumed dead in July sweeps. Tate, Aaron, and Ari try to get Holly back in a good mood.

Something is clearly going on with her meds. Also, Lexie and Abe show up to the Juneteenth celebration in Horton Square, and Lexie is shocked to find out Juneteenth is his and Paulina’s anniversary. Theo, Lexie, and Abe run smack into Paulina at the event, and things could not be more awkward.

Days of Our Lives: The Chess Set Key and EJ’s Revenge

Also this week, Chad and Theo are checking out the chess set from Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo), and a key falls out of it right into Theo’s hand. The week of June 22nd through the 26th is going to be hot because July sweeps kicks off on Thursday the 25th, and there’s so much good stuff coming. We’re going to have Rachel Black (Lorelie Olivia Mote) crying to Kristen and Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) because she’s scared she will never get better and may end up like Sophia because the baby doctors couldn’t help her friend.

We’ll also have EJ punishing Kristen for the attack on Johnny. And when she goes missing, you know, to be honest, Brady might be relieved for his part. And of course, Rachel’s going to be upset. But long run, I think the kid is better off if Kristen’s not around.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: Roman Livid with Kate

We’re going to see Roman furious about Kate’s schemes and lies. Marlena told Kate that she’s really hoping they work through this rough patch. But fact is Roman may not forgive Kate this time. Theo and Chad try to figure out what the chess set key unlocks.

And Belle’s going to be in the loop on this as well because she and Chad talked about figuring things out. Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Brady talk to Liam Selejko (Hank Northrop) about Destiny and Clea, and Brady’s going to be digging into DiMera Enterprises Pharmaceuticals.

And that may be why EJ ends up firing Sarah from the hospital and that should happen also during sweeps. Gabi gets the cash from Stefan Dimera’s (Brandon Barash) inheritance soon, and it looks like she’s going to relent and either give it to Xander and Titan, or Gabi may pay off their loan directly, and long-term that’s going to lead to more trouble.

Holly starts feeling funny because of her meds, and there’s a big scene coming soon with her raging at Tate at the hospital in front of Sarah. So, we’ll also see Johnny getting involved in this, and he’s helping from the DiMera Enterprises side.

The Real Reason Ariana Grande Broke Down On Stage

Published

on

Ariana Grande at Oscars 2025: Nominees Dinner

Ariana Grande’s emotional moment on stage in Los Angeles quickly sparked speculation among fans.

Many assumed her tears were connected to her recent breakup with Ethan Slater, but a family insider claims the truth is far more complicated.

According to the source, the singer has been carrying emotional wounds that go back years, and one particular event forced her to confront painful memories she had long tried to leave behind.

When Ariana Grande became visibly emotional while thanking fans during a recent concert, many linked the moment to the end of her relationship with Ethan Slater.

The pair, who met while filming “Wicked,” were together for roughly three years before reports surfaced that they had quietly ended their romance months ago. While the breakup attracted widespread attention, a family insider told the Daily Mail that it was not the main source of Grande’s current struggles.

“It has been on-again, off-again. We didn’t know the last ‘off’ was going to be the final ‘off,’ but here we are,” the insider explained.

According to the source, the relationship had become increasingly unstable over time, with periods apart growing longer as the years passed.

“I’m not saying she and Ethan were toxic, but they should definitely have ended things earlier. They weren’t connecting, not vibing,” the source said.

The insider added, “The relationship was not serving either of them, they knew it, but neither one of them wanted to pull the plug. No one wanted to say it was over, but it was over, and it had clearly been over.”

The source insisted the breakup was hardly a surprise to those closest to the singer, noting, “We all saw that one coming, and that’s not why things are hard for her now.”

The Documentary That Reportedly Changed Everything

According to the insider, Ariana Grande’s emotional struggles intensified after the release of the 2024 documentary “Quiet on Set,” which examined allegations involving children’s television programming during the years she worked for Nickelodeon.

“She’s really hurting… and it’s hard to watch for anyone who really loves her,” the source said. “She loves hard, she follows her heart, and she’s had a lot of trauma. That’s made the last few years so hard for her.”

The insider claimed the documentary forced Grande to revisit aspects of her early career that she had never fully processed.

“You want to know what the worst thing has been for her? The thing that sent her off? The Quiet on Set documentary,” the source revealed. “It really f-cked with her head, in a very big way.”

The source said Grande initially tried to avoid watching the series altogether.

“She didn’t want to watch it, was going to avoid it, and then it became so huge, and it did a number on her.”

According to the insider, the documentary caused her to rethink experiences from her teenage years in a way she never had before.

“It really triggered her, knowing how she had been used, when she was a teenager, and not even realizing how much she was being used,” they shared.

Ariana Grande Confronted Painful Nickelodeon Memories

Grande was only 16 years old when she landed the role of Cat Valentine on “Victorious.” She later reprised the character in the spin-off series “Sam & Cat.”

During that period, Nickelodeon produced additional online content tied to the shows, including comedy sketches and web-exclusive videos featuring cast members.

Several of those clips have faced criticism in recent years because of their suggestive nature. According to the insider, revisiting those videos as an adult was deeply unsettling for the singer.

“Seeing herself at 16 trying to milk a potato on a bed, that f-cks you up when you’re older and you rewatch it and are like ‘oh that was to make old men get off,’” the source said.

The insider added simply, “That’s a lot for anyone.”

The renewed focus on those clips reportedly brought back emotions Grande had never fully dealt with, leaving her struggling to reconcile her childhood fame with how some of that content is viewed today.

Ariana Grande Faces Growing Concern About Her Health

As the singer launched her first tour in seven years, fans began expressing concern over her appearance and energy levels.

Social media discussions intensified as videos from performances circulated online. Many questioned whether Grande was struggling physically or emotionally.

The insider firmly denied suggestions that she suffers from an eating disorder and instead pointed to stress as a major factor.

“Ari doesn’t eat when she gets stressed, and then she loses weight, and then people make comments, which makes her more stressed, and then she doesn’t eat. It’s a vicious cycle,” the source explained.

The insider also criticized public scrutiny surrounding Grande’s appearance.

They said, “It’s weird that people feel like they can make comments about her body. You wouldn’t say that to someone on the street, why is it okay to say it about Ariana Grande? It’s just weird to me.”

The source also rejected suggestions that the shorter schedule for the Eternal Sunshine Tour was connected to lingering fears from the 2017 Manchester Arena attack.

“It started long before Manchester,” the insider said.

Searching For Peace While Staying In The Spotlight

Despite the emotional challenges, Ariana Grande continues balancing a demanding schedule that includes touring, promotional appearances, and preparations for her upcoming album, “Petal.”

Those closest to her reportedly believe she would benefit from slowing down. “People around her have told her to rest, to relax, to take care of her mental health,” the insider shared.

The source added, “She doesn’t need to be working as hard as she is. But she feels that working is part of her self-care.”

Finding balance remains difficult for someone whose career has defined much of her life.

“What she needs is peace. But what does it take to be at peace? Because she wouldn’t be happy to take her money and go live in obscurity,” the insider said. “That wouldn’t give her peace. But the stadiums and the movie premieres and the constant talk about her weight isn’t peaceful too. She’s got to figure that out.”

For now, those close to Grande say she is actively focusing on healing.

“She’s doing a lot of therapy now, a lot of working on herself. She is practicing self-care, meditating, praying, taking stock of herself,” the insider explained.

According to the source, she is also prioritizing healthy habits and leaning on trusted loved ones as she moves forward.

They concluded, “She’s eating, good meals, healthy meals. Writing music in her downtime, processing things, healing from it all. She’s really trying hard to be in a healthy place, and she’s got a support system who is helping her a lot.”

SyFy Urban Fantasy Series Was Doomed To Fail From The Very First Episode

SyFy Urban Fantasy Series Was Doomed To Fail From The Very First Episode

By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

The hottest genre in literature right now is dark romantic fantasy, or romantasy as fans have called it, and often it can combine with another genre, urban fantasy. When you take the witches and werewolves out of the forest and out of the middle ages, put them in the heart of a city, you get urban fantasy. As popular as it is, urban fantasy television shows have fallen out of favor, and even one of the most successful book series of all time, The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, was unable to get a decent adaptation. It’s so different in fact, that even Butcher told fans to treat it as an alternate reality.

Who You Gonna Call?

The Dresden Files aired a grand total of 12 episodes  on The Sci-Fi Channel in 2007. Starring Paul Blackthorne (Known now as Quentin Lance from Arrow) as Occult Detective Harry Dresden. Based out of Chicago, in the novels, Harry often finds himself at the center of supernatural power struggles. They could be economic, political, or over an ancient relic, the point is, the world of The Dresden Files novels is dense with layer upon layer of intrigue and hundreds of characters to keep track of.

That’s not the case for the television series, which adapts a case of the week format, and never even skims the surface of the real appeal of Butcher’s novels. Another change is Bob, an intelligent spirit, manifests as Terrence Mann, while in the novels, he’s an invisible spirit who enjoys working through Dresden’s cat (Terrence made it work, but that was the only star tof the character’s changes!). Book plots sort of appear, if you squint and tilt your head, you’ll see “Storm Front” and “Fool Moon” in two episodes. Why The Sci-Fi Channel decided to option the novels and then throw them out is a complete mystery. Fans knew the series was in trouble even before the pilot ever aired.

The Dresden Files Aired Out Of Order

The pilot, “Storm Front,” was developed as a two-hour movie of the week to serve as a backdoor pilot into launching the series. That never happened. Instead, the third episode aired as the first episode of the series, and the pilot was butchered to one-hour and aired as Episode 8. Studios airing shows out of order used to be a common occurrence, notably with Fox messing around with Dollhouse and Enlisted, but this was a whole new level of interference.

Paul Blackthrone at least fit the mold of Harry Dresden and gave it his all. If anyone were to adapt the current novels, the older, wiser version of Harry would perfectly fit Blackthorne’s performance. The problem is that he started out as younger, a little bolder, little more daring, and not quite as beaten down by the politics of the supernatural world. As a case of the week urban fantasy, The Dresden Files is fun, as The Dresden Files brought to life, it’s one of the worst adaptations of all time.

Urban Fantasy Needs To Be Saved

dresden files

Jim Butcher, author of The Dresden Files, warned fans that the series would be different and to not treat it as a direct adaptation of his novels. Even with that warning, fans were upset that Bob was a literal ghost, Officer Karrin Murphy was now Connie Murphy and a completely different character, and they decided to not tune in. With low-ratings, The Dresden Files was mercifully canceled months after airing.

In the last decade, urban fantasy is in the same neglected place as it was back in 2007. A resurgence thanks to What We Do In The Shadows and Lucifer, proved to be short-lived, with only Supernatural truly catching on. The Buffy revival was canceled in pre-production, Carnival Row would come back if we lived in a just world, and The Winchesters could have been something great if given time to grow. At any moment, The Dresden Files could be attempted again, especially with the continued popularity of the novels, which will, supposedly, come to an end with the 25th book.

In the meantime, you can watch The Dresden Files series for free on Pluto TV, Tubi, Plex, and The Roku Channel.
