Oliver Glasner Shares Crystal Palace Contract Update Amid Liverpool Links

Oliver Glasner says he is in ongoing discussions to extend his Crystal Palace contract amid recent speculation linking him with Liverpool.

The Austrian tactician has been named as a potential candidate to replace Arne Slot, following the Reds’ difficult start to the season, but it now appears that staying at Selhurst Park could be a serious option for him.

Speaking to Sky Sport Austria, Glasner revealed that he and Palace are ‘always in discussions internally’ over a new deal, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Glasner is reportedly admired by several Premier League clubs due to his impressive spell at Selhurst Park, with Manchester United also reportedly tracking the 51-year-old.

Speaking to Sky Sport Austria, Glasner declined to speculate on when a breakthrough in talks with Palace might occur but suggested that discussions over a new deal are likely to continue into the new year:

“We’re always in discussions internally, but with the tight schedule, there’s hardly any time to think about it.

“I really don’t know when we’d be able to sit down at the moment. We definitely have this schedule until January 10th, then we’ll move into the final discussions.”

Glasner took over at Palace in February 2024, replacing Roy Hodgson, and has achieved unprecedented success at the club, leading the Selhurst Park side to two major trophies.

The Eagles lifted the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Manchester City last season and won the Community Shield in August after a penalty shootout victory against Liverpool.

After finishing 12th under Glasner last term, Palace have been performing even better in the Premier League this season, sitting fourth after 15 games.

The Reds won 1-0 away at Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, with star forward Mohamed Salah absent.

The Egyptian was left at home following his post-match rant at Leeds United on Saturday, during which he accused the club of ‘throwing him under the bus’.

It remains to be seen whether Salah will return to the squad for Liverpool’s home clash with Brighton, his final game before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.
