In a separate incident, a 72-year-old walked away from the scene after crashing his car into a ditch
Two drink drivers have been disqualified from driving after crashing their cars. Police were called to High Street in Barrington on November 14 at about 9am after receiving reports that a black Ford had crashed into a ditch.
Peter Pesci, 72, walked away from the crash. He was picked up by a member of public and taken back to his home.
Officers found Pesci at home where he blew 96, more than double the legal limit of 35. He was arrested.
On November 16, police were called to a crash at a roundabout on the A428 near Cambourne. Milan Szlovak, 32, was travelling with friends and crashed his vehicle. He admitted being drunk after he blew 102 at the roadside.
Both men appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (December 4). Pesci, of West Green, Barrington, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified for 19 months and ordered to pay a fine of £230.
Szlovak, of Iceni Way, Cambridge, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified for 20 months and ordered to pay a fine of £120.
PC Ben Place, who investigated, said: “Driving under the influence not only puts your own life at risk, but also endangers your passengers and other road users. As a force, we remain committed to cracking down on drink driving and urge the public to report anyone they suspect of driving while intoxicated.”
The force operates a dedicated, confidential hotline – 0800 032 0845 – which is available 24/7 and allows the reporting of those believed to be driving under the influence.
