7 Most Unfairly Hated Movie Characters of All Time, Ranked
It takes more than a great movie premise to pull in an audience. If the viewer doesn’t care about the characters, nothing else matters. There have been many iconic heroes and villains over the decades, but there are also those characters fans hate, and not for the right reasons. Some films have been criticized for creating protagonists who were supposed to be cheered, but were instead so annoying that the viewer turned against them. These seven, however, don’t deserve the hate. Rather than disliking them, it’s time to see them for the complicated and realistic characters they are.

Jenny Curran in ‘Forrest Gump’ (1994)
Forrest Gump was one of the biggest movies of 1994, winning multiple Oscars. Based on Winston Groom‘s novel of the same name, the story follows Gump (Tom Hanks), a mentally disabled man who rises above his limitations to live an extraordinary life. He’s even given a love story with Jenny Curran (Robin Wright), who begins as Forrest’s childhood friend, then appears and disappears from his life over the next several decades.
Many fans don’t like Jenny because of how she treats Forrest. Sure, she’s kind to him when others aren’t, but she’s also abandoning him and outright rejecting him over and over. This makes her easy to dislike until you take a deeper look at who she is. Jenny lived a hard life as a kid, which included sexual abuse. She is suffering from that pain and finds it hard to open herself up to love. It doesn’t excuse the fact that she didn’t tell Forrest he was the father of her child for so long, but Jenny eventually grew and found love with her soulmate in the last days of her life.

Karen Nelson in ‘Halloween’ (2018)
In 2018, the Halloween franchise returned with David Gordon Green directing the eleventh film. After the disastrous Rob Zombie entries, the new movie started on the right track by bringing back Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Here, Laurie is a broken woman traumatized by a terrifying past. For four decades, she has been waiting for Michael Myers to return, and her PTSD was taken out on her own child, Karen (Judy Greer).
The 2018 Halloween shows a complicated relationship between Laurie and Karen, and many fans can’t stand Karen’s portrayal. She’s seen as whiny, her dialogue flat. All she does is complain, with an aura of detachment, about how her mom treated her growing up, and how she can’t let go. Why wouldn’t Karen act this way, though? She didn’t get to have a normal childhood because of Laurie’s obsession and was even taken away by the state. All Karen has ever wanted was a normal life with a mom who focused on her. In the end, she fights against the Shape, showing how much she was listening to her mother all of those years.
5
Cho Chang in ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ (2007)
In the Harry Potter books and films, Cho Chang (Katie Leung) first appears as a fellow student at Hogwarts whom Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) has a crush on. Sadly, for Harry, he waits too long to act, and Cho becomes the girlfriend of Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson). Then, in a shocking moment, Cedric is killed. Some time later, Cho and Harry become a couple. They’re not meant to be, though, and fans couldn’t wait for Harry to get away from her.
Moviegoers and readers alike were frustrated with Cho’s character in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. They were bothered that all she did was whine and cry about the past, while being jealous about Harry’s friendship with Hermione Granger (Emma Watson). Did fans expect perfection from the character? Her boyfriend was murdered! Why would she not be grieving, especially as a scared and confused teenager? Acting all happy, as if nothing happened, would have been nonsensical. Her jealousy over Hermione shows how afraid she is to lose someone else she cares about.
4
Summer Finn in ‘500 Days of Summer’ (2009)
500 Days of Summer is one of the most realistic and heartbreaking romances. In the movie, Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) meets Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) and falls madly in love. There’s just one major problem: Summer doesn’t look at love the same way that Tom does. While he’s a hopeless romantic, Summer is guarded, having come from parents who divorced. It leads to a struggle between opposing goals.
500 Days of Summer does not have a happily ever after. Summer breaks up with Tom, and those craving a sweet ending were not thrilled. They took their anger out on Summer, but it’s a hate she doesn’t deserve. She told Tom how she felt about relationships and how she didn’t want to be a girlfriend, yet he continued to pursue her anyway. Over and over, she shared her honest feelings, only to be ignored because Tom was falling in love with the idea of Summer, not the real, complicated, and independent woman. His heartbreak is all his fault and no one else’s.
3
Rose Tico in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi’ (2017)
To say that fans hated the latest Star Wars trilogy is an understatement. Some of that hate isn’t unfounded, as Episodes VII through IX are a step down creatively. Still, one character got so much undeserved derision that it hurt the actress playing her. In Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, we’re introduced to Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), a woman mourning her murdered sister who works with Finn (John Boyega) to help in the fight against the First Order.
In the era of social media, Kelly Marie Tran received a tremendous amount of ugliness on Twitter. They thought there was zero chemistry between her and Finn and found Rose and the preachy dialogue she was given unrealistic. Worse was the hate the actress received for being a strong Asian woman. It led to her penning a piece for The New York Times where she wrote about the online harassment and her refusal to be marginalized by keyboard warriors.
2
Jar Jar Binks in ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)
In 1999, after a 16-year absence, George Lucas returned to the franchise that had made him a household name with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The film follows the childhood of the future Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), who is helped by Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). It was also the introduction of one of the most divisive characters in movie history, Jar-Jar Binks (Ahmed Best).
Binks is a goofy Gungan who helps the heroes. He’s there as comedic relief, and Star Wars fans couldn’t stand him. His character was seen as over-the-top and his voice infuriating, and he took up too much time when we wanted to see the bigger stars. Although those are valid arguments, Jar Jar is still a hero and a sidekick who deserves some moments to shine. Is he annoying? Sure. But he’s also supposed to be. No one likes him, yet he keeps trying and fighting anyway.
1
Wendy Torrance in ‘The Shining’ (1980)
Stanley Kubrick‘s adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Shining is considered to be one of the greatest horror movies ever made. Kubrick’s direction is celebrated, as is the acting talent of Jack Nicholson, who plays Jack Torrance, a winter caretaker at the Overlook Hotel slowly being driven mad by the building’s ghosts. As he turns murderous, it’s up to his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), to protect their gifted young son, Danny (Danny Lloyd).
While The Shining was being celebrated, Duvall’s performance was mocked. She even won a Razzie as the worst actress of the year. Some didn’t like her version of Wendy, who whines and cries often. Duvall didn’t deserve the grief she received. Wendy is not meant to be a badass final girl. She’s showing the trauma she’s going through. How is this physically weak woman supposed to act when the love of her life is trying to kill her and her child? Wouldn’t you be terrified and find it hard to move, too? Duvall perfectly sold the trauma as Wendy overcame and fought back. In the end, the Razzies rescinded their “award” and recognized how great the performance was.

Severance Season 3 Officially Begins Filming as Production Gets Underway : Coastal House Media
Apple TV+’s upcoming psychological thriller Cape Fear is already generating buzz from critics ahead of its June 5 premiere.
Based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners and inspired by the classic 1962 film and Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed 1991 remake, the new 10-episode series stars Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson. The project comes from creator Nick Antosca and features executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
Early reviews have praised the series for its modern approach to the familiar story. Critics highlight Javier Bardem’s chilling performance as Max Cady, a man whose release from prison reignites a dangerous conflict with attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson.
In its review, Collider called the series a gripping update that successfully expands the story into a long-form thriller. Other critics have echoed similar sentiments. The Guardian described the show as an “immaculate update” and praised its tension-filled storytelling, while the New York Post called it a “brutal summer thriller” anchored by strong performances from its lead cast.
Javier Bardem, Cape Fear [credit: Apple TV+]
Unlike previous adaptations, the Apple TV+ series introduces new layers of moral ambiguity and contemporary themes, including media manipulation, misinformation, and the consequences of past decisions. The expanded format allows the story to explore the psychological warfare between Cady and the Bowden family in greater depth.
Not every review has been glowing. Some critics have questioned whether the story needed a 10-episode adaptation, arguing that certain plotlines feel stretched beyond the scope of the original material. Even so, the performances, production values, and suspenseful atmosphere have received widespread praise.
With an all-star cast, acclaimed filmmakers behind the scenes, and strong early reactions from critics, Cape Fear is shaping up to be one of Apple TV+’s most talked-about releases of the summer.

Keyshia Cole Shares Pics With Fans Amid Skrilla Romance
Keyshia Cole shared some pictures with her fans on Monday, July 27, amid her romance with Philadelphia rapper Skrilla. The ‘Love’ singer’s picture featuring several bouquets of roses is going viral after being shared in Cole’s Instagram Stories.

Keyshia Cole’s Roses Go Viral
Cole is going viral after sharing a picture of two rose bouquets with her fans. One bouquet of multi-colored roses is arranged in a heart shape and tied with a pink ribbon. Additionally, a bouquet of red roses displayed in a white box is next to the heart-shaped bouquet, and the pic includes the word “Baby.”
A bag of rose petals from Lex & Roses was on the other side of the big bouquet, and another photograph includes a note reading, “Love u beautiful XOXO.”
The recording artist recently seemed to confirm a romance with Skrilla, whose real name is Jemille Marrail Edwards, on Instagram.
The 44-year-old singer recently shared a selfie with the 27-year-old on social media. In it, she is standing behind him with her arms wrapped around his torso. The post is captioned, “Yup.”
Skrilla shared another photo Cole posted of them at a nightclub, and he also shared a picture of the ‘Heaven Sent’ artist on a boat wearing all pink.
Fans Believe Skrilla Sent The Roses Amid Romance
Cole apparently broke up with another 27-year-old rapper, Hunxho. To note, in 2024, she stunned fans when she had his name tattooed on her breast. In May, Cole had told The Breakfast Club that she wasn’t ready to date yet, but it seems that has changed.
Although the recording artist did not confirm that Skrilla sent the roses, roomies flooded the comment section after the pictures were shared on The Shade Room’s Instagram page.
Several fans congratulated Cole for moving on, while others warned her to be careful dating another younger man.
User @liv3lyf3 wrote, “If you finding love congrats happy for you.”

User @clout___lord29 was more optimistic about the alleged couple. “Skrilla might be the one to make her happy be happy for them 🤷🏾♂️.”
Cole Had Tattoo Of Ex Covered After Break Up
Cole said last year that she wasn’t ready to date following her relationship with Hunxho. During her interview with ‘The Breakfast Club, she noted the tattoo on her breast. However, she added she wasn’t sure about having it removed.
“Am I ready to move on? No,” she said. “I still got that tattoo here.”
In July of 2025, the singer had the tattoo covered and shared footage of the moment on Instagram. At the time, text over the video read, “Thank God. Covered.”

Alex Rodriguez & New GF Skip The Formalities
Alex Rodriguez‘s new romance is heating up!
The former professional baseball shortstop, nicknamed “A-Rod,” appears to have a thing for fitness trainers, as his new lover is in the same line of work as his ex.
Alex Rodriguez moved on with fitness enthusiast Meghan Hayden months after ending his three-year romance with Jaclyn Cordeiro. Their breakup made waves in May, but they allegedly ended things around March.

A-Rod is wasting no time with his new lover, as he reportedly skipped the formalities by cohabitating with the fitness instructor. A source confirmed the news, noting the couple rented a house out east together for the summer.
Their new living arrangements seemingly hint at them going full throttle in their relationship, as the duo was first spotted together at Michael Rubin’s star-studded Fanatics bash in the Hamptons earlier this month. Since then, Rodriguez and Hayden have been seen around the Hamptons on multiple occasions.
Page Six reported that they have been spotted spending time at Bounce Beach in Montauk and walking around Sag Harbor. Most recently, Hayden was seen teaching a workout class at Surf Lodge in Montauk this weekend. But her beau was not in attendance.
The New Couple Debuted Their Romance With A Kiss
The outlet was the first to reveal Rodriguez’s new relationship, reporting that he was caught kissing the fitness enthusiast at Rubin’s star-studded Fanatics bash in the Hamptons. A source confirmed their romance, claiming:
“They are dating. It’s new. She’s a really nice person from a great family.”
Following the star-studded bash, A-Rod and Hayden turned heads over the Fourth of July holiday weekend at Bounce Beach in Montauk. An eyewitness noted they came with a group of people and “looked coupled up.”
Alex Rodriguez Found Love Again After Ending A Three-Year Relationship

The outlet reported that Rodriguez’s romance with Hayden came months after a source told them he had quietly ended a three-year relationship around March. The Blast covered more on the split in May, reporting that the former MLB star’s ex had confirmed the news in a statement.
Jaclyn Cordeiro, a fitness instructor, noted that her romance with A-Rod had ended but their love and respect for each other remained. She declared that they were still supportive of each other and shut down any speculations of animosity or drama.
Although Cordeiro did not share the reason for their breakup, she implied the exes did not split on bad terms, claiming they “continue to be very close.” She also asked for privacy, stating that she was “navigating a serious health matter involving a family member.”
The Former Couple Shared A Blended Family During Their Relationship

Cordeiro and Rodriguez had many similarities that strengthened their bond during their romance, including their status as the proud parents of two daughters, respectively. The fitness instructor welcomed two daughters from a previous relationship while the former baseball player had two daughters from his marriage to Cynthia Scurtis.
Before their separation, Cordeiro and A-Rod were frequently spotted spending time as a blended family with their daughters. They were first romantically linked in October 2022 after they were seen walking down Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.
Cordeiro and Rodriguez reportedly bonded over family and a mutual love for fitness. A source even claimed the former athlete would never date someone who didn’t work out daily for more than a few months because fitness was “a major part of his life.”
Alex Rodriguez Allegedly Never Moved On From Jennifer Lopez

Following the end of his relationship with Cordeiro, A-Rod began trending for allegedly making moves on his former fiancée, Jennifer Lopez. The Blast shared that sources claimed the media personality had contacted the actress after splitting from the fitness instructor.
They alleged that Rodriguez reaching out to Lopez wasn’t surprising because he had never fully moved on from the “Kiss of the Spider Woman” actress. “The relationship meant everything to him,” an insider said of the former athlete’s feelings for Lopez.
A-Rod and the actress were once one of the most publicized couples in Hollywood, dating from 2017 until 2021. Their engagement never made it down the aisle, with the pair separating amid reports of relationship struggles and public scrutiny.
Is Alex Rodriguez’s new relationship another shot at happily-ever-after?

Macaulay Culkin Has Disney ‘Salivating’ For ‘Home Alone’ Reboot
Macaulay Culkin might have already started laying the blueprint for his return to the Holiday blockbuster!
The iconic actor rose to fame for playing Kevin McCallister in the 1990 family Christmas film, “Home Alone,” and stole the hearts of millions around the globe. Behind-the-scenes arrangements may already be in the works for a reboot of the classic film.
Macaulay Culkin, in recent years, has expressed that he is open to returning to the nostalgic franchise that put his name in lights globally even after over three decades.

Culkin was reportedly seen at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, to meet up with executives amd discuss a potential new “Home Alone” movie.
According to veteran entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni, who reportedly received a tip about the actor’s presence at the studio, Disney is beyond thrilled about Culkin’s ideas.
“I got a tip the other day that there was a very interesting sighting on the Disney lot: Macaulay Culkin was there. He’s talked about having an idea for a new ‘Home Alone,’ and Disney is like salivating,” Belloni shared on a recent episode of his “The Town” podcast.
He also claimed that Disney is going out of its way to offer Culkin another movie in addition to the holiday classic film. “They’re offering him another movie, like, he could do his own passion project if he could also do another ‘Home Alone’ and they have a good idea,” the podcaster shared.
A Reboot Is Still In Doubt
Speaking further on his podcast, Belloni, who is a founding partner of the digital media company Puck, shared that a reboot of the classic film may not happen; however, he personally thinks it will, adding, “They are courting him like nobody’s business.”
Belloni also remarked that “Home Alone” is one of the top-streamed franchises every holiday season; hence, a reboot “would be gigantic” for the studio. In addition to his comments, the podcaster revealed that he had insider information about the ideas on the table for the reboot.
“I’ve talked to people who have heard it, and it’s a really good idea for a ‘Home Alone’ reboot with Macaulay Culkin,” he said after joking that the former child star’s brother, Kieran Culkin, should be “the hot one” in Hollywood currently. Belloni’s comment stemmed from the fact that Kieran just won an Oscar for his role in “A Real Pain” last year.
The Actor Previously Said Terms And Conditions Apply To His Return To The ‘Home Alone’ Franchise

Last year, during his event “A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin,” the TV star got candid about the possibility of returning to his iconic onscreen role after more than three decades.
He admitted to his fans that he is open to reprise his role as Kevin McCallister in another “Home Alone” sequel; however, there are conditions his return would largely depend on.
Culkin shared that the supposed sequel would have to meet a very high standard and “would have to be just right,” teasing one of his iconic lines in the film. As reported by The Blast, the actor disclosed some of his personal ideas for the film.
The 45-year-old shared that for his envisioned sequel, since Kevin is all grown up, he isn’t the one doing the locking out; rather, he is the one locked out of the house.
“I’m either a widower or a divorcé. I’m raising a kid… I’m working really hard, and I’m not paying enough attention, and the kid is getting miffed at me, and then I get locked out,” Culkin explained.
The Actor Keeps His Iconic Character A Secret From His Kids
Culkin, who shares sons Dakota and Carson with his longtime partner, Brenda Song, revealed that his kids are still in the dark about his role as Kevin that made him a star.
This is not to say that they do not watch the movies, as he shared they watch them as a family and he enjoys seeing the films through his children’s eyes.
However, he is yet to drop the bombshell on them that their dad played Kevin in the classic films. “I try to keep the magic alive,” he said after sharing an instance of their conversation around the film as shared by The Blast.
“They don’t even call it ‘Home Alone,’ they just say ‘Kevin. They’re like, ‘Wow, Kevin’s really funny.’ I go, ‘He’s also handsome, somebody that your mom might be into,’” Culkin recalled.
The actor’s oldest son is beginning to catch on, as Culkin recalled showing him an old family photo where Dakota pointed his young dad out and said, “That looks like Kevin.”
Macaulay Culkin Recently Mourned His ‘Home Alone’ Mom
The ‘Home Alone’ reboot would definitely be missing an OG character, Kevin’s mother, played by Sara O’Hara. O’Hara passed away on January 30, 2026, after a brief illness at the age of 71.
After her death, Culkin took to social media, sharing an emotional tribute where he honored her legacy and the memories they shared during her lifetime.
The actor uploaded a throwback photo of himself and his on-screen “mama” from “Home Alone,” writing how much he wished they had more time to spend together. In a separate interview, the father of two shared that O’Hara’s death came as a shock to him because they had “unfinished business” to handle.
Even though he did not detail what the business entailed, he admitted that the news of her death hit him hard and close to home. The Blast also reported that Culkin remembered O’Hara for being supportive from the beginning of his career in the industry.
Will Macaulay Culkin’s plans result in another blockbuster film?

The Perfect ‘Friends’ Cast if the Sitcom Were Made in 2026
Fancasting is a popular pastime. Don’t you love to look at classic shows, wonder what the characters might look like if the show were made today, then picture current celebrities in the key and supporting roles? Friends is the perfect show to do this with. The iconic sitcom features a mixed bag of personalities. It’s famously known for lacking diversity, and you can’t help but wonder who might play each of the characters in a modern-day version.
The way the characters look might change, but with the right actors playing them, their essence would remain. Consider that while most of the cast was in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s when the series started, celebrities today tend to look younger than ever. That means casting a 35-to-40-year-old wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. When you consider who’s hot right now, a few names stand out as actors who could nail these characters in a modern-day dream casting scenario.
1
Rachel Green: Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney is this generation’s “it” girl — a status that Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, understood all too well at the height of Friends‘ success. Sweeney has proven herself capable of handling both drama and comedy in shows like Euphoria. Though that HBO series has some of the heaviest TV episodes of the last 20 years, there are also lighter moments. Sweeney’s whiny and at times insufferable character Cassie sometimes delivers laughs, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Sweeney also starred in the romantic comedy Anyone But You, where she showed off more of her comedy talents.
She has the same distinct look Aniston does — a beauty that stands out from others. We could totally see whoever plays Ross having pined for her since they were in high school. And Sweeney would be believable as the runaway bride who works as a waitress in a coffee shop until pursuing a career in fashion.
Honorable mentions: Jenna Ortega (her comedic timing is brilliant); Zendaya (she’s a consummate pro who can tackle any role).
2
Ross Geller: Jesse Eisenberg
Fans either loved or hated Ross, played by David Schwimmer, who came across as annoying and complaining at times. But deep down, he was a good guy who not everyone understood. He lacked confidence in himself and couldn’t seem to figure out his love life until the bitter end of the show.
Jesse Eisenberg is a perfect actor to play him. He’s known for playing anxious characters, which fits right into the Ross wheelhouse. His characters are often intelligent, but also socially awkward like Ross. From portraying Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network to the illusionist in Now You See Me, one of those perfect action movies anyone can enjoy, his resume speaks for itself. While he’s already in his 40s, Eisenberg still has a boyish face, so he could pull off early 30s.
Honorable mentions: Jay Baruchel (he plays the awkwardly confident nerd so well); Tyler James Williams (his uptight and awkward character in Abbott Elementary proves he has what it takes).
3
Chandler Bing: Daniel Radcliffe
It would take a huge actor to tackle the role of Chandler Bing, and Daniel Radcliffe could be a good fit. While he’s best known for playing Harry Potter in that massive franchise, it’s easy to forget that he also portrayed “Weird Al” Yankovic in the musical parody Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. He’s also currently killing it in the sitcom The Rise and Fall of Reggie Dinkins. He knows how to command a screen like the late Matthew Perry does, and he has demonstrated his skill for comedic timing as well.
Chandler often used sarcasm and self-deprecation to hide his insecurities, and we could totally see Radcliffe doing the same. He isn’t afraid to be silly either, playing everything from a flatulent dead body in Swiss Army Man to several humorous characters in Miracle Workers. Though older than Perry was when he started on Friends, Radcliffe forever has that youthful look.
Honorable mentions: Skylar Astin (he has a similar look and a reputation for playing sweet and likable characters); Joe Keery (the flowing hair and talent for sarcasm in Stranger Things make him a viable candidate).
4
Monica Geller: Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the most sought-after young actors of this generation. Rising to fame in The Queen’s Gambit, one of the greatest miniseries masterpieces of the 21st century, then the movie The Menu, and now most recently starring in the Apple TV series Lucky, she has taken on diverse characters. While many have a certain sex appeal, Monica, originally played by Courteney Cox, is more upright. But Taylor-Joy is the type of actor you know could handle any type of character that’s thrown at her.
This version of Monica might have to change slightly, but we could see it working. She could be a cute pairing with Radcliffe, Astin, or Keery, and I could see Eisenberg as her annoying older brother. It would be a role out of Taylor-Joy’s usual darker, more intense shows and movies, but she could be convincing as the uptight, neat-freak, hard-working chef.
Honorable mentions: Hailee Steinfeld (she has the same adorably magnetic quality); Millie Bobby Brown (she has a sweet innocence about her like Monica); Ayo Edebiri (she’d taps into Monica’s sarcastic side); Chase Infiniti (she has the same classic beauty and tremendous acting talent); Maude Apatow (she’s an up-and-comer whose Euphoria character you could imagine as being a younger Monica).
5
Joey Tribbiani: Dave Franco
Matt LeBlanc beautifully portrayed the handsome but goofy and not very academically intelligent friend. This is a character type Dave Franco knows all too well and could play to a T. He leaned into the comedy angle in movies like Superbad and the Now You See Me films, as well as in shows like The Afterparty and The Studio, the latter of which he played an embellished version of himself.
While Franco is already 40, his boyish face would fit with a more mature version of the character. He could easily replicate Joey’s doe-eyed look, womanizing ways, and adorably naïve personality.
Honorable mentions: Zac Efron (he fits the hunky persona and knows comedy); Timothée Chalamet (he’s a versatile young actor who can take on any role); Robbie Amell (he’s dabbled in comedy with Upload, showing he can handle goofy, macho roles).
6
Phoebe Buffay: Haley Lu Richardson
It’s tough to imagine anyone but Lisa Kudrow embodying Phoebe. But when considering the younger generation of actors, Haley Lu Richardson is easy to picture in a boho outfit, playing her guitar in the coffee shop, singing about her smelly cat, and playing up the eccentric, kooky personality.
Richardson has shown her range in roles like The White Lotus, one of the most perfect HBO shows of the last 15 years, where she played a young assistant trying to find herself. She more recently appeared in the Peacock series Ponies as a confident and rebellious wife of a CIA agent in the ’70s. There’s no doubt she’d tackle Phoebe with a modern 21st-century twist.
Honorable mentions: Elle Fanning (she’s one of the most versatile young actors of this generation); Sadie Sink (the sarcastic slant of Max in Stranger Things would be perfect for the character); Hunter Schafer (her nuanced performance in Euphoria included some comedy as well); Emma Myers (her upbeat character in Wednesday has hints of Phoebe).
7
Gunther: Suraj Sharma
The late James Michael Tyler quietly played Gunther, the manager of Central Perk who not-so-secretly pined for Rachel. He quietly puts up with the antics of the group and keeps their favorite couch perpetually reserved so it’s always available to them when they want it. For a time, he was Rachel’s boss when she worked there as a waitress.
Suraj Sharma feels like a good actor for this role, perhaps because of his role as Sid in the short-lived How I Met Your Mother spin-off, How I Met Your Father. On that show, he’s a member of the core group who happens to own a bar. Even though he’s part of the friend group, they often visit the bar while he’s working. Beyond that, he could lend more personality to the role, since Tyler was mostly a background character with a few lines here and there. Sharma has great comedic timing, so even with a single line, he’d command attention and garner laughs.
Honorable mention: Reba McEntire (she would bring loads more comedy to the role with some good one-liners).
8
Jacob Elordi: Richard Burke
For some time, Monica dated the handsome Richard, played by the handsome Tom Selleck. He was tall, suave, wealthy, and much older. Unsurprisingly, Chandler was threatened by Richard when he felt like the old beau might return to Monica’s life. In this generation, I could easily see Jacob Elordi playing Richard. He’s tall and handsome as well, and while young, there’s no reason Richard couldn’t be switched to a young, successful businessman instead of an older one.
Given the shift to female empowerment nowadays, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to have Monica dating a younger man and swapping the story angle. Elordi, for his part, knows how to play the prince charming type, having done so in projects like The Kissing Booth and Wuthering Heights.
Honorable mentions: Liam Hemsworth (has the same classic handsome look); Robert Pattinson (his characters often have an air of mystery about them); Glen Powell (his smile lights a room, and he’d easily fit as the ex that makes Chandler jealous).
9
Isabela Merced: Janice Hosenstein
Aside from Monica, Chandler had one other major girlfriend through the show’s run. Janice (Maggie Wheeler) is best known for her distinct accent, loud personality, bold clothing choices, and obnoxious cries of, “Oh my god!” Isabela Merced is an up-and-coming young actor who is best known for her role in The Last of Us. But her experience from Nickelodeon shows, as well as more serious ones like in Alien: Romulus, suggest this could be a fun role to show her comedic side, too.
Janice appears in multiple seasons of Friends, coming back into Chandler’s life more than once. Sometimes, the group just runs into her in various scenarios. Merced proved in Season 2 of The Last of Us that she could dominate scenes. That’s something Wheeler did whenever the camera was on her as Janice, oozing main character energy even though she wasn’t one.
Honorable mentions: Joey King (her range is tremendous, and though she mostly does serious roles, she’d ace this one); Melissa Rauch (she perfected the nasally, squeaky voice for Bernadette on The Big Bang Theory).
10
Paul Rudd: Mike Hannigan
I mean, could anyone else possibly play Mike, Phoebe’s long-term boyfriend and eventual husband, other than Paul Rudd himself? Sure, decades have passed since he last played the role, but as many joke, Rudd doesn’t seem to age. He still looks like he did back then, so it would be hilarious to have Rudd return in this same role.
The age difference might be a little unsettling, depending on who’s playing Phoebe, but would it really be any different than when Selleck played the older Richard dating Monica? Rudd has such a boyish charm that he’d slink so easily back into the role that everyone would forget he’s pushing 60 and totally believe that Phoebe has fallen head over heels for the weirdly wonderful pianist and former lawyer.

Stephani Sosa Accidentally Injures DWTS: Next Pro Contestant
Ezra Sosa‘s sister, Stephani Sosa, was involved in an incident on Dancing With the Stars: Next Pro that resulted in a contestant’s abrupt exit.
During the Monday, July 27, episode of the ABC show, Stephani accidentally hit Natalie Jolley in the face while they were practicing choreography as a group. Stephani didn’t notice that she swung her arm in Natalie’s face until the latter started to cry.
Natalie said she felt dizzy as one of her eyes started to swell shut. Stephani explained in a confessional that she didn’t even realize she had hurt Natalie.
“I don’t know what happened. The dance was moving so quickly, and Natalie got hit in the face,” she explained. “I just hate being the one that caused that. Like, I just feel horrible. I know she’s worked really hard to be here, and I hope she’s OK. … Sorry, I just care.”
Natalie was pulled out of rehearsals by production to get medical attention. An ambulance was eventually called once Natalie mentioned she couldn’t breathe through her nose.
“It hurts really bad,” she said before producers reassured her that the medical team would help, adding, “They’re going to give you some pain relief, OK? Just try to slow your breathing down.”

Natalie never returned to perform her group dance on DWTS: Next Pro. Instead, judge Shirley Ballas told the group that no one was going to be eliminated because Natalie’s health scare prevented her from continuing on the show.
“Tonight was the last dance for … neither of you,” she announced. “Following Natalie’s injury, she was not medically cleared to compete, and so she has been eliminated. This means you will all live to dance another day.”
Despite her abrupt exit, Natalie was given the chance to say goodbye.
“I’m really sad and disappointed that I won’t be able to continue in this competition, but the most important thing is just to take care of my body so that I can dance again,” she said. “I love all of you so, so, so much and I’m going to miss you all. Thank you so much.”
Before DWTS: Next Pro premiered on ABC, Stephani spoke exclusively to Us about the pressure of competing on the show while her brother is already a pro on Dancing With the Stars. (Stephani was previously part of the DWTS troupe during season 33.)
“I honestly felt like I was treated like everyone else,” she shared earlier this month. “I definitely feel like the experience for me wasn’t easy. It was very hard, and I definitely feel like they expected a lot more from me because I was Ezra’s sister.”
Stephani noted she “had a lot more to prove,” adding, “I went in being like, ‘Yeah, I’ve done this. I am Ezra’s sister, but this is a new chapter.’ This is me proving myself fully and there are no excuses.”
Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. Stream new episodes the next day on Hulu.

‘Stargate’ Creator’s New Sci-Fi Series Returns for Season 3 Tomorrow
Just last month, Stargate fans were dealt another major disappointment when Amazon reportedly scrapped its planned revival of the beloved sci-fi franchise. The series was set to be led by franchise veteran Martin Gero, who wrote for all three previous live-action Stargate shows. Reports initially suggested Amazon executives were concerned the project wouldn’t appeal beyond the franchise’s existing fanbase, although later reports indicated the cancellation stemmed from leadership changes within the company. The decision sparked an immediate backlash, with fans launching online campaigns urging Amazon to reverse course and reinstate Gero’s project.
While fans continue to hope for good news about Stargate‘s future, another ambitious space-set sci-fi series deserves their attention, especially since it comes from one of the franchise’s original creative minds. Long before the cancelled Amazon revival, Dean Devlin, who co-wrote and co-produced the 1994 Stargate film alongside Roland Emmerich, helped launch the franchise. Nearly three decades later, Devlin returned to science fiction with The Ark, which he created alongside fellow Stargate veteran Jonathan Glassner.
Premiering on February 1, 2023, The Ark returns for its third season in just 24 hours, nearly two years after the Season 2 finale. Set 100 years in the future, the Syfy series follows the crew of Ark One, a spacecraft carrying humanity’s hopes of survival after Earth becomes increasingly uninhabitable. When disaster strikes en route, the surviving crew must overcome impossible odds to find a new home for the human race.
Season 3 Looks Like ‘The Ark’s Strongest Yet
With just one day until The Ark returns, anticipation is building for Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke) and the crew of Ark One as they continue humanity’s fight for survival. Season 2 concluded with Garnet receiving a mysterious distress signal from the Ross 128 system, while another cliffhanger viewers were left with was what the mysterious alien stone tablet discovered by Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) could mean for the colony’s future.
The upcoming season promises to expand the sci-fi mystery’s mythology even further. Speaking about Season 3 in a recent interview, Burke teased new technologies, deeper explorations of The Ark‘s origins, and “incredibly complicated” new villains. She also revealed that viewers will learn much more about Garnet’s backstory, while every major character will receive meaningful development. Perhaps most encouraging of all, she believes the new episodes surpass everything the sci-fi drama has done so far, saying that Season 3 “is genuinely our best season.”
The Ark Season 3 premieres on Syfy on July 29, 2026.

‘Fire Country’ Season 5 Leads CBS’ Massive October 9 Premiere Night
CBS has always been able to rely on Paramount Plus to deliver some of the biggest streaming hits in the world, and right now, it’s Taylor Sheridan and his legendary Western empire making the network a fortune right now. Sheridan’s original neo-Western drama, Yellowstone, is once again the #1 show in the world on Paramount Plus, where it streams around the world except in America, where the show has found a home on Peacock courtesy of NBCUniversal. Sheridan also has other shows like Dutton Ranch and Tulsa King dominating Paramount Plus right now, along with the first season of Marshals, which was Sheridan’s first-ever network show. CBS even announced yesterday, as part of a wider range of release date confirmations, that Marshals Season 2 will officially premiere on October 4, with new episodes releasing weekly after Episode 1.
Late September and early October is going to be a great time to be tuned into CBS, as now that the full slate — or most of it — has been revealed, we finally have an idea of how things are shaping up for the 2026 season on the network. One of the most exciting days heading into the new season is Friday, October 9, which will see the return of three beloved shows, some of which have been on the air longer than others. Kicking off the premiere Friday night on CBS is Sheriff Country, which will premiere its second season at 8. Following Sheriff Country Season 1 is Fire Country Season 5, which will air at 9 pm and lead directly into Boston Blue Season 2 at 10. New episodes will stream on Paramount+ the day after their premiere on CBS.
October 4 Is Another Big Day for CBS
Only a few days before the massive slate of new releases on October 9, CBS is bringing back even more shows that Sunday, October 4. Kicking off the night is the NFL on CBS doubleheader, which will lead directly into the second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Marshals, arriving on October 4 at 8:30. Once Marshals goes off the air at 9:30, Tracker fans will step in to see what’s next with Colter Shaw (played by Justin Hartley) in Season 4 of the hit series. Both shows will move to 8 and 9, respectively, after the season premiere.
Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of all the new projects coming to CBS this season.
