well thunderbolt can be good , a friend of mine does it a bit different , he and his family have 5 computers and 3 laptop/notebooks , and a gaming pc , most pc,s only have small storage cause he uses Domain controller , his house also has ethernet in the wall (they renovated the home to be able to do it ) big server pc rack in the basement and super POE switch , if lets say he wants to browse the internet on Youtube orso and he uses his game pc , and want to switch pcs , he just logs out , logs in to another pcs lets say the one of his wife , that pc with his account now just is set to exactly where he left off on the gaming pc , he uses Cat7 ethernet , its expensive but it works .

to keep his gaming pc clean he uses a 2 way fan instalation , couple a fans that blow cool air in it and 2 smallerones on the bottom to blow air out at bit slower pace as the cooling fans , once every 2 days just vacume round the pc dust free

Hi need something similar just to be able to do gaming on TV in different room. Distance of HDMI needed from PC to TV is about 7 – 8 meters and distance of usb hub could be as low as 3 meters (hub just needs to reach through the wall to the second room to have usb controllers plugged into it. Is simple optic HDMI + normal standard 3m USB cable + Hub solution for my case? Or do i need better cable for usb? How long can standard nonactive USB cable be to do the job?
    Thx

This. A thousand times this. You are not alone. Placing the noisy, ugly box out of sight and earshot has been my highest PC priority for more than 20 years. It is the fist thing I consider when designing my office workspace. A garage, attic, unused bedroom, utility room, get all this ugly noisy crap as far from my mental space as possible. People often centralize their homelab servers and networking equipment in remote location in the house, then unnecessarily share their precious life/work space with one of the biggest, ugliest, nosiest, hottest appliances in the home. You wouldn't share your office with your HVAC or water heater, why share it with an big, loud, hot computing appliance?

I have the same inexpensive solution you describe but extended the length to 150 feet. The key is modern inexpensive optical HDMI cables. $100 optical HDMI cables can drive 4K monitors at 60Hz at 100 ft or longer. I think the primary market are presentation/projection rooms, but it works great in the home setting to distance your desk from your PC. I have three 4K monitors at 60Hz in my office connected to my PC in the server room. In this same cable bundle include a Cat6 extender ($50) to provide a six port USB 2.0 hub for keyboard, mouse, audio (Soundblaster USB dongle). With this setup I have no perceivable lag or latency compared to having the PC in the same room, even when gaming. I have to sacrifice USB 3.0. at my desk, but if I need that speed for a peripheral I just walk to the server room and plug it directly into the PC.

If you have one monitor the total cost is ~$150 plus the time to run the cables.

I cannot emphasize how important this is to my sanity. Why don't more people do this? Why are people only getting around to this now? I am no tech junkie, I had to figure this out myself decades ago by trial and error because nobody else seemed as adamant about getting that hideous box out of sight, sound, and mind. Such a simple path to blessed peace, quiet, space, and aesthetic minimalism in your work/life/play space.

I just got a PC so me and my daughter could stream and play games or both on YouTube but I went way over budget and cannot afford to do my original 2 build 😅for now so we will be sharing but I just spent all kinds of time and money turning her bathroom into a PC room and she was disappointed to say the least that it was going to be in the living room however the walls are literally joining so I'm like wait can I just run through the walls with a separate display and wireless peripheral 😅 then I googled to find hey I'm not the only one doing this ….

I Made The World's Smallest Server Rack - With UPS and SSD Storage

Having your own home server rack or homelab is really useful, but you have to have a relatively large space to set it up, it generates a lot of heat and can be pretty noisy. So that’s why I built this, the world’s smallest server rack that fits right in on my desk alongside a drink or cup of coffee. In this video, I’ll show you how I made it.
