8 Thriller Books That Can Be Called Masterpieces

Published

on

The Day of the Jackal book cover

Thrillers can fool readers with speed. Hide one fact, delay one reveal, add a killer, and the pages will probably turn. A masterpiece has a harder job. The tension has to survive after the secret is known, and the characters must stay interesting after the danger passes.

That is the standard here. Every book on this list can be reread without losing its grip. The shock may change, but the psychology, fear, moral pressure, and human damage become clearer. These are stories people finish quickly and continue thinking about for years. That’s also perhaps why most of these were later adapted into books as well.

‘The Day of the Jackal’ (1971)

The Day of the Jackal book cover Image via Penguin

The Day of the Jackal should have no suspense. Frederick Forsyth is writing about a fictional attempt to assassinate Charles de Gaulle, and readers already know de Gaulle was never killed. Forsyth turns that limitation into the smartest part of the book. The question shifts from whether the Jackal succeeds to how close an unknown professional can get before the French authorities identify him.

The preparation is incredibly detailed without becoming lifeless. The assassin builds false identities, commissions a custom weapon, changes his appearance, studies security, and removes anyone who threatens the plan. On the other side, investigator Claude Lebel has almost no useful description and a deadline that keeps shrinking. Forsyth respects procedure enough to make paperwork, border checks, phone calls, and hotel records genuinely tense. The Jackal remains frightening since he treats murder as a technical assignment rather than a personal cause. You understand every step he takes, yet you never really know him. That distance makes the hunt colder and much harder to shake.

‘Shutter Island’ (2003)

Shutter Island book Image via William Morrow/ Abacus Books / Little, Brown

Most twist-driven novels become smaller once the answer is revealed. Shutter Island becomes crueler. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels arrives at Ashecliffe Hospital in 1954 to investigate the disappearance of patient Rachel Solando. A hurricane cuts the island off, the staff answer questions carefully, and Teddy suspects that the hospital is conducting experiments on people who cannot defend themselves.

Dennis Lehane lets Teddy’s investigation operate as both detective story and personal escape. His memories of Dachau, grief over his wife Dolores, anger toward the doctors, and obsession with a patient named Andrew Laeddis all influence what he sees. The clues are real, but Teddy has arranged them into a version of events he can survive. That is much more painful than a cheap reveal. The doctors are also divided over treatment, punishment, and whether a damaged mind can be reached without violence. Once the truth is known, every earlier conversation changes. The staff were never hiding only one secret. They were trying to find out whether Teddy could face his own life.

In Misery, Stephen King traps bestselling novelist Paul Sheldon in a farmhouse with Annie Wilkes, the nurse who rescued him after a car accident. Paul initially thinks he has been saved. Then Annie reads his latest book, learns that he killed off her beloved character Misery Chastain, and decides that he owes her a new novel.

Annie is terrifying since her violence comes with rules that change whenever she needs them to. She calls herself Paul’s number-one fan, but she has no interest in Paul as a human being. She wants ownership over his imagination. The captivity also forces Paul to confront his own contempt for the books that made him successful. Writing becomes survival, punishment, and eventually a source of control. King understands the physical misery of the room too. Paul’s injuries, painkillers, thirst, typewriter, hidden pills, and attempts to move around the house make every small decision dangerous. Annie later amputates his foot, and even that horror does not end the deeper fight. Paul has to finish a story for the person destroying him and somehow keep part of it for himself.

‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ (2005)

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 2005 book cover Image via Norstedts Förlag

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo follows Harriet Vanger who vanished from a family gathering decades ago, and her uncle Henrik still receives a pressed flower every year on his birthday. He believes her killer is taunting him. Disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist accepts the investigation, partly to escape the damage caused by his libel conviction. Lisbeth Salander enters from another direction, first hired to investigate Mikael before becoming the person he needs most.

Stieg Larsson takes his time connecting the Vanger mystery to corporate corruption, misogyny, financial crime, and generations of protected violence. That slow build has a purpose. The respectable surfaces of Swedish business and family life begin to look worse with every document Mikael and Lisbeth uncover. Lisbeth is also far more than a brilliant hacker attached to a male detective. Her distrust has been earned through institutional abuse, and her methods come from knowing official systems rarely protect people like her. The investigation succeeds through journalism, research, memory, and technology working together. Then Lisbeth allows herself one small hope outside the case, only to have it crushed. The crime is solved. Her loneliness is not.

‘Rebecca’ (1938)

The first Mrs. de Winter is dead before Rebecca begins, yet the unnamed narrator cannot find a single room at Manderley that seems free of her. She marries Maxim de Winter after a rushed courtship and arrives at his estate painfully aware of her youth, lower social position, and lack of confidence. Everyone appears to know how the new Mrs. de Winter should behave except her. Daphne du Maurier turns insecurity into genuine suspense in this book.

Mrs. Danvers protects Rebecca’s memory with frightening devotion and knows exactly how to make the new bride feel like an intruder. Maxim responds to questions with anger or silence, which leaves his wife guessing what kind of marriage she has entered. The later revelations change Rebecca from an idealized dead wife into something far more complicated, but they also expose Maxim in ways romance cannot clean up. The narrator gains confidence while becoming involved in his secrecy. That moral shift is easy to miss if the book is treated only as a Gothic love story. Manderley was never simply haunted by Rebecca. It was built around people choosing which version of her helped them live with themselves.

‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ (1955)

The Talented Mr. Ripley - 1955 - book cover Image via Coward-McCann

The Talented Mr. Ripley follows Tom Ripley who wants Dickie Greenleaf’s money, confidence, clothes, friends, and freedom. He also wants Dickie himself in a way Tom cannot separate from envy. When Dickie’s father pays him to travel to Italy and persuade his son to return home, Tom treats the assignment as entry into the life he believes he should have had.

Patricia Highsmith puts the reader dangerously close to Tom’s thinking. His lies are quick, his shame is intense, and his ability to copy other people becomes more impressive as his crimes become worse. Dickie’s rejection humiliates him, but murder is never presented as one sudden break from normality. Tom has been studying how to disappear into other identities long before violence becomes necessary. The truly disturbing choice is Highsmith’s refusal to build the story around punishment. Readers start worrying about whether Tom will be exposed, even though exposure would be justice. That uncomfortable loyalty is the whole trap. Tom does terrible things, and Highsmith makes us anxious on his behalf.

‘Gone Girl’ (2012)

Gone Girl turned a missing-wife plot into one of the nastiest books ever written about marriage. Amy Dunne disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary, and Nick quickly becomes the husband everyone suspects. He lies badly, smiles at the wrong moment, has an affair, and cannot control how television turns his marriage into public entertainment.

Then Amy’s account tears up the story readers thought they understood. This is written by Gillian Flynn and she uses the competing narrators to show two people who spent years performing ideal versions of themselves. Amy created the Cool Girl Nick wanted. Nick created the attentive husband Amy expected. Resentment grew once both stopped enjoying the act. Amy’s revenge is extreme, brilliant, cruel, and built around a precise understanding of how gender shapes public sympathy. Nick is a victim of her plan, but he is never rewritten as innocent. The book refuses that easy comfort. They know each other too well, hate each other too deeply, and still find a reason to stay together. Murder would have been a cleaner conclusion. Marriage becomes the real life sentence.

‘The Silence of the Lambs’ (1988)

The Silence of the Lambs book Image via St. Martin’s Press

Hannibal Lecter gets most of the cultural attention, but Clarice Starling is the reason The Silence of the Lambs belongs at number one. She is still an FBI trainee when Jack Crawford sends her to interview Lecter, hoping the imprisoned psychiatrist can help identify the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. Lecter immediately notices her accent, cheap shoes, ambition, and discomfort. He understands how badly she wants to escape the life she came from. Thomas Harris makes every conversation between them a contest.

Clarice needs information, while Lecter demands personal memories in exchange. She has to remain honest enough to interest him without surrendering control. Outside the cell, Buffalo Bill’s latest victim is still alive, which gives the psychological games a real deadline. Harris also fills the investigation with forensic detail, institutional pressure, sexism, and mistakes that cost time. Clarice earns progress through observation rather than sudden genius. Her fear never disappears, especially when she enters Bill’s house alone. She continues anyway. In a book filled with men who study, test, dismiss, or hunt women, Clarice refuses to become someone else’s object.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

Katie Holmes’ Reaction To Daughter Cutting Ties With Tom Cruise

Published

on

Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise’s daughter Suri has officially dropped his last name, opting to legally go by “Suri Noelle,” her mother Katie Holmes’ middle name.

While the news has shocked many, an insider close to the family shared that Holmes was not “surprised” by it, noting that it’s not something that “happened overnight.”

Suri’s name change has also renewed scrutiny of her father Tom Cruise’s ties to the Church of Scientology, which is believed to be at the center of their estrangement.

Holmes wasn’t shocked by her daughter’s decision to ditch her dad Cruise’s last name, with an insider hinting that the actress saw it coming because of how “independent” Suri strives to be.

Speaking to Page Six, the source said, “Katie wasn’t surprised by Suri’s decision to legally drop ‘Cruise’ from her last name because that’s just who Suri is.”

“She’s always been incredibly independent and confident in making her own choices,” the insider continued, noting, “This also wasn’t something that happened overnight. It was a decision that evolved over time, and Katie respected Suri’s process every step of the way.”

While it’s unclear when exactly Suri legally changed her name, public data reveals that she updated her information when she signed up to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in October 2024 while she was a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University. She was 18 at the time.

By registering with the name Suri Noelle, the college student confirmed that it was her official legal identity, and according to Pennsylvania courts, all residents who register to vote are mandated to use their real name.

The Name Change Move Was ‘Entirely’ Suri’s Decision: ‘This Wasn’t Something Katie Pushed Or Encouraged’

The Page Six source further shared that Holmes never influenced her daughter into dropping Cruise’s surname, stressing that it was entirely Suri’s decision to adopt a brand new identity that sets her apart from her father.

“This wasn’t something Katie pushed or encouraged. It was entirely Suri’s decision,” the insider explained. “Katie has spent years raising Suri to think for herself and become her own person, and she’s incredibly proud of the confident, independent young woman she’s become.”

They continued, “She’s an adult now, and Katie has always believed those kinds of personal decisions are hers to make.”

Concluding, the source shared that “more than anything, Katie just wants Suri to be happy and live life on her own terms.”

Suri’s decision to ditch her father’s last name was first noticed in 2024 while she was still in LaGuardia High School. The unexpected shift reportedly served as a heartfelt homage to her mother Holmes, who has raised the teenager largely on her own.

“She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name,” a source revealed to Page Six at the time, noting that Suri “wants her own identity” to live by, one entirely separate from her estranged father.

The new name initially caught the public’s eye on a casting roster for her high school production of “The Addams Family: A New Musical,” in which she played the role of Morticia Addams.

Her graduation program from LaGuardia High School similarly reflected the update. Furthermore, reports surfaced that her billing for the production of “Head Over Heels” by a local theater also credited her simply as “Suri Noelle.”

The Actor’s Loyalty To Scientology Strained His Relationship With His Daughter After His Split From Katie Holmes

Amid Cruise’s enduring estrangement from his daughter, experts on the Church of Scientology argue that the actor’s primary allegiance rests firmly with his religion rather than his family.

Speaking with In Touch, expert Tony Ortega noted: “Tom has proven over and over again that his No.1 loyalty is to [his religion] and David Miscavige.”

This sentiment aligns with a 2019 report from Page Six, where actress Leah Remini revealed that Cruise’s standing is unmatched. She asserted he is effectively “second to” Miscavige, the current organizational leader, and is generally “considered a deity within Scientology.”

Remini also debunked the narrative that Cruise is being held against his will by the organization. According to a NewsWeek report in 2023, she clarified that high-profile devotees willingly remain due to the extraordinary social leverage they inherit.

“It’s like nothing you can imagine,” Remini stated. “The amount of power they receive from this Church is like nothing in Hollywood. There is no reason for them to leave this environment.”

Cruise even once admitted in a 2013 deposition that Holmes’ worries about Scientology played a role in their divorce, as the actress, who is a devout Catholic, wanted to protect their daughter from the organization.

Tom Cruise Once Said He Would ‘Always Be There’ For His Kids

Cruise’s broken relationship with Suri today offers a staggering contrast to the picture-perfect image presented at her birth in 2006.

Back then, the movie star spoke to Vanity Fair, admitting that becoming a father was everything to him, while stressing how important it is for him to be supportive of his children.

“I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep,” Cruise insisted during the chat with the publication.

He further emphasized his deeply involved approach to raising kids, noting, “I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way.”

In addition to Suri, Cruise has two older children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman: Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31.

According to reports, Suri has no relationship with either half-sibling, with insiders claiming that, much like their father, Connor and Isabella’s loyalty to Scientology made it impossible for them to ever connect with Suri.

Greta Lee Opens Up About ‘Late Fame’ And Why Its Meant For Her

Following a string of acclaimed performances in recent years, Greta Lee is set to return to the big screen with “Late Fame.”

Speaking about the project in a recent interview, Lee described “Late Fame” as “a precious secret gem.” She also reflected on how she approached the role after replacing the film’s previously attached star, Sandra Hüller.

Lee’s film, “Late Fame,” had its world premiere in the Orizzonti section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in August 2025.

Now, nearly a year later, the movie is set to open in select U.S. theaters through Magnolia Pictures.

Reflecting on the film’s journey ahead of its theatrical release, Lee told The Hollywood Reporter that she is “just so appreciative” the movie was made in the first place.

“It does feel like this precious secret gem,” the “Russian Doll” star said of the project. “Certainly that feels reflected in the kind of distribution and release it’s going to have. I’m just hoping that it can find an audience. It’s one of those films that I feel like is this gift that I want people to receive and to get to see it in a theater.”

In “Late Fame,” Lee plays Gloria, an actress determined to win the attention of former poet Ed Saxberger (Willem Dafoe) after discovering his little-known collection of poetry while searching for acting opportunities.

However, Lee almost never landed the role. She stepped into the part after Sandra Hüller, who had originally been cast, withdrew from the project.

Looking back, Lee said she is grateful the opportunity came her way because she believes the role was meant for her.

“The idea of Gloria and who she was in my mind was so firm and so separate from anyone else, including Sandra,” she said. “It felt like it was mine — like, ‘I really want to take the plunge and run with this idea of exactly who this person is.’”

Lee’s enthusiasm for the role was also evident during a Q&A following the film’s screening at the Venice International Film Festival.

“It was one of those moments when I thought, ‘Oh, God, I have to play her.’ Then, when I was lucky enough to get the chance to, I couldn’t believe it,” Lee said at the time, per Deadline.

According to Lee, the kind of woman Gloria represents is rarely seen today, which is why she had extensive conversations with director Kent Jones to ensure every detail of the character felt authentic.

“The kind of woman who is incredibly nostalgic and romantic and looking to the past, looking to women like Marlene Dietrich,” Lee noted. “Those were a few of the things we tried to incorporate into the character.”

Greta Lee Says ‘Past Lives’ Still Touches Audiences

While it remains to be seen how “Late Fame” will be received when it arrives in theaters, Lee is still enjoying the enduring impact of her acclaimed 2023 film, “Past Lives,” which earned multiple award nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination.

Earlier this year, she revealed that people still approach her wherever she goes to share how deeply they connected with Nora Moon, the character she portrayed in the film.

Speaking about those encounters, Lee said she feels “really lucky” to have formed such a genuine connection with strangers through her work. She also recalled one particularly memorable interaction that reinforced that feeling.

“One of the most profound encounters I had was meeting a young person who said that they’d never been in love. And seeing the movie made them excited to fall in love. I said, ‘Good luck. It gets real screwy after that,’” Lee shared.

Given the success of “Past Lives,” speculation about a potential sequel has persisted. However, there has been no official announcement about a follow-up, and Lee previously admitted she remains uncertain about whether it will happen.

“While we were filming, there were many jokes about the sequel and the trilogy—giving it the full Linklater treatment. We’ll see,” the “HouseBroken” star said.

Looking ahead, Lee will return to the small screen in Netflix’s “The Last House,” which debuts on the same day as “Late Fame.” She is also attached to “The Eyes Are the Best Part,” a project being produced by Searchlight Pictures.

Stassi Schroeder’s Husband Says They Feel Like ‘Roommates’

Published

on

Beau Clark and Stassi at Los Angeles Premiere Of Netflix'S 'Stranger Things' Season 5

Stassi Schroeder and Beau Clark are confronting a painful disconnect in their six-year marriage. During Thursday’s premiere of the former “Vanderpump Rules” star’s new Hulu series, “House of Stassi,” Clark became emotional while admitting that he feels “angry and resentful” over the couple’s current dynamic.

The stay-at-home father revealed that Schroeder’s demanding career has left him feeling detached from his wife and that he compares their relationship to that of roommates. Despite the difficult conversation, the couple agreed to work on rebuilding their connection.

Clark initially opened up about his struggles during a conversation with Taylor Strecker, Schroeder’s podcast co-host. The 46-year-old explained that he is attempting to support Schroeder’s career while managing their home and caring for their two young children, five-year-old Hartford and two-year-old Messer.

“I’m trying to balance wanting her to have her space and to be able to not stress out when she’s working,” Clark shared. “But then also I’m sitting here, and I’m angry and resentful.”

Clark admitted that he had been “shoving it down” rather than discussing the issue directly with his wife. The approach only increased the emotional distance he felt developing between them. “I just got so detached from her that it’s like we’re roommates. I don’t feel worthy,” he confessed.

Clark became overwhelmed and cried as he discussed how deeply the change in their relationship had affected him.

During a confessional, Clark explained that his reluctance to speak up stemmed partly from his desire to avoid adding more pressure to Schroeder’s life. “I’m trying not to stress out Stassi. She’s got the show going on and her podcast. She’s got brand deals,” he told the camera.

Between her new reality series, podcast, and promotional commitments, Schroeder has become the primary breadwinner in the household while Clark focuses on raising their children. Although he had delayed addressing his feelings, Clark recognized that the couple could not continue ignoring the growing resentment.

“But Clark hoped that ‘at some point’ he would ‘find the words to just have a chat’ with Schroeder,” he said. “With Stassi, I will let her know how I’ve been feeling.”

Clark eventually followed through and initiated an honest conversation with his wife about the toll their family arrangement had taken on his mental health and sense of identity.

When Clark finally spoke to Schroeder, he explained how leaving the workforce to become a stay-at-home parent had changed the way he viewed himself. He told the reality star that he sometimes feels like “a 1950s housewife where I have my apron on and I’m cleaning everything while feeding the kids [and] sometimes that’s how I feel because we don’t have that connection all the time.”

His admission that they had begun to function like roommates visibly affected Schroeder, who became emotional as he listened. Schroeder reassured her husband that she wants him to “say things” rather than allow his frustrations to “build up” over time. She acknowledged that she needed to “make more of an effort” within their marriage and promised that they would “work through” the difficulties they were facing.

The conversation marked an important first step for the couple after Clark spent months silently attempting to balance his responsibilities with his desire to protect Schroeder from additional stress.

Although the conversation exposed serious issues in their marriage, Schroeder emphasized that Clark has consistently supported her through major changes in her life. During her own confessional, the 38-year-old reflected on the role he played as she became a mother and rebuilt her career.

“All I know is him being with me in the thick of it every day for the last five years. I became a mom, and he was with me the whole entire time,” she said.

Schroeder also described Clark as “supportive,” recognizing how much he had taken on while she pursued professional opportunities. However, she made it clear that his emotional struggles did not cause her to regret returning to reality television. “I’ve already been working for years to get here. I can’t just stop now because all of a sudden, Beau waited until this very moment to tell me that,” she told producers.

Rather than abandon her career, Schroeder appeared determined to find a better balance between her work and her marriage.

Schroeder began dating Clark in 2017 while she was still appearing on “Vanderpump Rules.” Their romance followed her on-and-off relationship with Patrick Meagher, which ended that same year. Schroeder also famously dated her former co-star Jax Taylor during the first season of the Bravo series.

Schroeder and Clark legally married in California in 2020, months after she was fired from “Vanderpump Rules” amid a racism scandal. The couple later celebrated with a larger destination wedding in Rome, Italy, in 2022.

They began building their family before their legal ceremony. Schroeder became pregnant with Hartford in April 2020 and welcomed her on January 7, 2021.

Street Fighter’s First Official Clip Pits Jason Momoa’s Blanka Against Andrew Koji’s Ryu : Coastal House Media

Published

on

Michael B. Jordan Backs David Jonsson as the Next Black Panther : Coastal House Media

Marvel fans have spent the last 48 hours dissecting every frame from the Avengers: Doomsday Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, and one of the biggest mysteries wasn’t in the trailer at all. It was stitched directly into Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom-inspired jacket.

Now, the hidden Latverian runes embroidered across the costume have been translated, revealing several ominous messages that appear to hint at Victor Von Doom’s mindset heading into Avengers: Doomsday.

A Secret Language Hidden in Plain Sight

The mysterious symbols first caught fans’ attention during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel. At first glance, they appeared to be decorative runes inspired by Doctor Doom’s homeland of Latveria.

However, eagle-eyed fans quickly realized they matched the same fictional alphabet previously used on the “Dom Latveria” coffee promotion released earlier this year. By comparing those symbols to English lettering, fans were able to decode nearly every phrase embroidered onto Downey’s jacket.

What the Jacket Says

The translated messages include several chilling phrases:

“THERE IS NO PROMISE OF TOMORRO”

The final “W” is intentionally absent, likely reflecting the stylized Latverian alphabet rather than a typo.

Other translated phrases include:

  • JUSTICE
  • REVENGE
  • TO THE VICTOR
  • GO THE SPOILS

The last two combine to form the classic saying:

“To the victor go the spoils.”

It’s an especially fitting reference considering Doctor Doom’s real name is Victor Von Doom, making the phrase both literal and symbolic.

SDCC [credit: Amy Sussman/Getty Images]

What It Could Mean for Doctor Doom

Marvel hasn’t confirmed whether the embroidered messages carry story significance, but they certainly fit Doom’s comic book history.

Justice and revenge have long defined Victor Von Doom’s motivations. While Doom often sees himself as humanity’s rightful savior, he justifies nearly any action if it leads to what he believes is a better world. The phrase “There is no promise of tomorrow” also aligns with the multiversal stakes already teased in Avengers: Doomsday, where reality itself appears to be on the brink of collapse.

Marvel’s Attention to Detail

Marvel Studios has become known for hiding Easter eggs in costumes, props, and production design, but this may be one of its most elaborate yet. Rather than random decorative symbols, the runes form complete messages that reinforce Doctor Doom’s philosophy before audiences have even seen the film.

It’s another example of the studio rewarding fans willing to examine every detail frame by frame.

With Avengers: Doomsday releasing later this year, don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last hidden message Marvel has tucked away for fans to discover.

Claressa Shields Reacts Question Relationship Remy Ma Husband Papoose Video

Claressa Shields Reacts To Question About Dating Papoose

Shields appears to be on a press tour for an upcoming boxing match against Kaye Scott on August 15. The fight is set to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. She stopped by the city’s radio station, Streetz 94.5 FM, and chatted about the event, her career and overall personal life. At one point, the interviewer asked, “How much longer are you willing to be in a relationship with somebody’s husband?” Before the interviewer wrapped up the question, Shields had already started jumping in to respond. Still, the interviewer continued, saying, “Because at the end of the day, that’s what people are looking at.” Shields immediately responded, clocking the interviewer’s description of Papoose.

“Well, pause. ‘Cause that’s not somebody’s husband. Papoose filed for divorce. Y’all hate to say that word, but it’s the word that’s out there. He filed for divorce because he’s serious about me. So, I’m not with somebody’s husband and if you’re going to call him her husband, make sure you call her his wife and also hold her accountable for what she’s doing in her life.”

Claressa added that Remy Ma, who she didn’t explicitly name, is also living her life with someone else. “So don’t make it seem like it’s just one-sided. I’m not with somebody’s husband. I’m with the man who filed for divorce, who’s serious about me, who’s done things for me that I’ve done for him. So that’s not what it is,” Shields clarified.

What’s Going On With Remy Ma & Papoose?

In this new interview, Claressa Shields said that Papoose is going through the courts. However, she didn’t clarify whether their divorce has been finalized. “It takes time,” she said. This is nearly the same statement Claressa made last December, when ‘The Breakfast Club’ hosts invited her to join an interview they were holding with Papoose. She spoke out after DJ Envy spoke of wanting Remy Ma and Papoose to mend their friendship and lock in on co-parenting.

“That takes time. It’s a divorce. It’s not something that just happens overnight, but people life don’t stop because of that. It’s papers, it’s time, it’s stuff that gotta happen, but at the end of the day, we move forward with our lives,” Claressa said. Pap jumped in at that point saying, “Like I said, I wish her the best..” and Claressa added, “Yeah, for sure.”

Claressa Gives Chrisean Rock Advice

Claressa Shields recently linked up with Chrisean Rock for boxing training and filmed their session. But the sport isn’t the only topic that women discussed. Claressa also gave Chrisean a bit of love life advice. Shields didn’t name names, but fans put two and two together. She advised Rock to duck, hide and dip anytime the ‘Thotiana’ rapper is on the scene in order to maintain control over her narrative. The boxer’s advice came after Rock went viral for a livestream interaction with Blueface on a yacht. During their encounter, Rock confronted Blue about denying he’s her son’s father, while he called her out for alleging he’s gay.

Usher Returns With Another Spicy Performance Following Fan Drama

‘The R&B Tour’ had a show in Birmingham, Alabama, on Tuesday, and Usher brought things back to normal following some drama with a fan in Nashville over the weekend.

Usher is notorious for getting veeeeery close with his fans onstage, and most are enthusiastic after being chosen for the special moment. However, a fan named Gabrielle Cheyenne was booted off the stage in Nashville after she failed to go along, but things are back to normal as Usher heated up the Birmingham stage.

The singer brought a fan onstage while performing ‘Can U Handle It?’ However, this time he had a fan who was very enthusiastic, and she went IN, okay?! Not only that, Usher seemed to co-sign her performance when he looked at the audience in shock after she got on top of him.

Things got even more spicy after a bowl of cherries got involved. As the fan straddled Usher, a bowl of cherries was brought to the stage. The fan was supposed to feed the cherry to Usher, but she sucked on it for a moment beforehand.

As she attempted to feed him, the ‘Good Good’ artist opened his mouth wide. Just as he was about to eat the cherry, he turned his head and sent the audience into hysterics.

Fans Are Howling Over The Performance

Live Bitez shared footage of the moment on Instagram, and users reacted to the video.

User @bruushay wrote,Baby she ate. If u gon go on stage it should go something like this!! 😂👏.

Instagram user @layylowkee joked, “I DONT THINK HE WANNA BE ON STAGE!!🫪🗣️😭.”

Usher Warned Fan Before Bringing Her Onstage

Usher warned the fan before bringing her onstage following the drama in Nashville. Cheyenne clapped back on social media after fans dragged her for getting kicked off the stage.

“First off NOBODY is declining to go on stage. I looked good… you thought I wasn’t gonna let THOUSANDS of people see me?? On the big screen, where you Will never be???? My mom and I had FLOOR SEATS. Their team approached us and moved us to VIP before the show even started !! PRETTY PRIVILEGES something you will never know about!! They don’t say what you’re going up there for!! Y’all wanted me to get up there and f**k him atp ?? CHATT FOLKS AREN’T USED TO ANYTHING. That’s the most exciting thing that would’ve happened in y’all little a** lives !! F**k yall, DISRESPECTFULLY

Usher noted the fan’s comments during the Birmingham show and seemed to throw some shade in the process.

“Before we get started, don’t bring your a*s up here if you don’t wanna be here,” he said. “God, don’t like ugly, but he most certainly don’t feel too good about pretty privilege, either.”

It would appear that the Birmingham fan understood the assignment. That is, until she tried to feed Usher that cherry.

Debbie Turner Sound of Music Updates

UPDATE 7/30/26, 4 a.m. ET: Folk singer Linda Perhacs has been “found safely” after concerned friends reported her missing earlier this week.

“We are grateful to share that singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs has been located and is safe,” Perhacs’ former manager Laurel Stearns said in a statement to Rolling Stone on Thursday, July 30. “After a period of concern during which friends, collaborators, and members of the music community were unable to establish contact with Linda and had filed police reports accordingly. Law enforcement has just confirmed that she has been found and is safe.”

The statement continued, “We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped amplify this effort by sharing information, reaching out with support, and expressing genuine care for Linda’s well-being. The overwhelming response from fans, fellow musicians, journalists, and the broader creative community has been a powerful reminder of the profound impact Linda’s music. We are especially grateful to the authorities for their assistance and to all those who worked behind the scenes to help bring clarity to this situation.”

“At this time, we ask that Linda’s privacy be respected as those close to her determine the best path forward,” Stearns added. “We hope this moment allows for compassion, healing, and continued support for an artist whose work has touched so many lives. Thank you again to everyone who stood with Linda and helped ensure that she was found safely.”

Original story below:

Folk singer Linda Perhacs has been reported missing months after being released from a residential care facility.

Perhacs’ friend Mark McNeill shared a plea for help via Instagram on Monday, July 27, writing, “Linda Perhacs our dear friend and legendary singer-songwriter was discharged from a residential care facility approximately eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian.”

McNeill claimed that Perhacs’ loved ones have been unable to get in touch with her.

“Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have been unable to reach her and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered,” he continued.

In the social media post, McNeill urged his followers to reach out to Perhacs’ former manager Laurel Stearns via email with any “verified information regarding Linda’s whereabouts or current means of contact.”

McNeill’s post was jointly shared by Stearns, Jessica Hundley, who directed the music video for Perhacs’ song “Prisms of Glass,” and musician Julia Holter.

Stearns broke her silence about her former client’s disappearance in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, claiming “concern is growing” among Perhacs’ close friends, collaborators and the music community.

According to Stearns, “numerous friends and longtime collaborators report they have been unable to establish direct contact” with Perhacs since she was discharged.

“Repeated attempts to communicate with her guardian have also, they say, gone unanswered,” she added.

Perhacs, 83, is best known for her debut album, Parallelograms, which was released in 1970.

Despite its low sales, the album was rediscovered three decades later and was reissued numerous times due to growing demand during the New Weird America movement.

Perhacs went on to release The Soul of All Natural Things in 2014, followed by her third studio album, I’m a Harmony, three years later.

Cardi B Addresses New Plastic Surgery Speculation

Published

Cardi B is seen leaving her hotel during Paris Fashion Week

Cardi B is setting the record straight about her appearance following renewed speculation over whether she altered her famous curves. During a recent Instagram Live, the rapper confirmed that she previously had her butt injections reduced. However, she denied recently undergoing surgery to achieve her current figure and said she has not had another procedure since January 2024. Her candid admission came days after her appearance at Pacha NYC sparked widespread discussion about her noticeably plump posterior.

Cardi addressed the rumors after fans repeatedly encouraged her to undergo a reduction. “A lot of y’all keep telling me to go get my a-s reduced,” the “WAP” rapper said, per Daily Mail. “I don’t need to go get my *ss reduced. News flash: I did get my a-s reduced.”

The 33-year-old explained that reversing the cosmetic work entirely would not be as simple as some fans seem to believe. Cardi said she “can’t just go and lipo[suction] my butt, because my skin is, like, kinda loose,” which she explained was “why my *ss shakes so much.”

Although liposuction could remove additional volume, the rapper claimed that taking that approach could cause her backside to droop due to loose skin. Correcting that result would require a more invasive operation and a lengthy recovery period, neither of which currently appeals to her. “So I would have to cut myself. And I’m not cutting myself,” Cardi continued. “I’m not sitting down for four months. I’m outside, like I said.”

Rapper Says She Is ‘Comfortable’ With Her Current Body

Despite the constant commentary surrounding her curves, Cardi insisted she is happy with her appearance. “I like my body how it looks right now. I’m comfortable in my skin,” she said.

The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker also emphasized that she has never attempted to hide her cosmetic procedures from the public. “I’m very, very honest,” she said. “First of all, I got two lipos and one a-s reduction.”

Cardi explained that she originally decided to reduce the injections because she felt the exaggerated shape did not properly suit her naturally small frame. “First thing first, I am a small girl,” she said. “I’m a very small, petite girl. My mom is petite. My sister’s petite. My aunts are small.”

While Cardi was willing to explain her decisions, she also made it clear that she does not believe fans are entitled to continually scrutinize her body. “Y’all acting like y’all new to this,” she said. “Y’all been seeing my body for how many years now? Too many.”

Cardi also addressed claims that her increasingly defined waist and svelte figure must be the result of additional cosmetic procedures. “Oh, ‘You look super super snatched,’” she said mockingly. “Yes, b-tch, just stop hating. I’ll tell you what I do so I could look snatched.”

The Grammy winner claimed that her current approach includes consuming lean proteins such as grilled chicken and salmon. She also prioritizes fiber, including through healthy beverages.

Cardi cautioned her followers against attempting to “starve” themselves to lose weight, as extreme restriction can be dangerous and counterproductive. “That’s what I do. I’m being as honest as possible,” she continued, according to PEOPLE. “[Anytime] someone’s talking about, oh, I look good, y’all say I’m doing surgery.”

The rapper then offered a blunt response to those continuing to question her figure. “So shut the f-ck up,” she said, urging viewers not to behave like “hating a-s b-tches.”

“Enjoy your life. Enjoy yourself, enjoy your everything,” Cardi advised.

Kehlani Was Shocked By Cardi B’s Curves

The latest discussion follows a viral backstage encounter between Cardi and Kehlani in February. During the exchange, which was captured in an Instagram video posted by radio personality Big Boy, Kehlani appeared stunned after touching the rapper’s backside. “You have so much a-s!” Kehlani exclaimed in the crowded hallway.

Cardi then announced that she was considering having more of her injections removed once she completed her tour. “After this tour, I’m taking some out,” she said. “After this tour, I don’t wanna hear nobody for three months. I’m going to Colombia; nobody hit me up, nothing. I’m taking this a-s out!”

The declaration suggested Cardi was prepared to disappear from the public eye for several months while recovering from another procedure. Those plans did not last long.

Approximately one month later, Cardi revealed during an appearance on the “Today” show that she no longer intended to travel to Colombia for the reduction. “I was saying that, but I’m not gonna do it,” she said. “I was just gonna take a little bit of butt out, but I don’t have time for that.”

The performer also explained that she was feeling “really comfortable” with her body, making another procedure seem less necessary.
