Charity, Move Against Cancer, is looking to partner with operators in the fitness industry to get more people living with cancer active.

Recognising the benefits that exercise and community can have for this cohort, Move Against Cancer currently focuses on empowering people to complete 5k in any way they can – be it a jog or walk – or alternatively volunteering or having a coffee and a chat. 

The charity was co-founded 10 years ago by oncologist and iron-distance champion, Dr Lucy Gossage, who has experience of working with teenage and young adult cancer patients, along with athlete Gemma Hillier-Moses, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 24.

Already collaborating with PureGym – which offers free membership to young people with cancer who have completed the charity’s bespoke movement programme – the charity is now looking to build more partnerships in the industry. It wants to spread the message that exercise can help to prevent cancer and help fitness professionals make exercise more accessible to people affected by cancer.

“The fitness industry has the expertise, equipment, and infrastructure for exercise. We bring the understanding of the cancer journey and the limitations – physical and psychological – many people with cancer face,” says Gossage.

There are already 130 ‘5k Your Way’ events taking place across the UK each week, located at designated parkrun sites. Every month, the charity is supporting an average of three new groups to get underway. More people are being diagnosed with cancer and also more people are surviving the illness. Exercise is one of the most important things anyone diagnosed with cancer can do to enhance wellbeing and improve health outcomes both during and after treatment.

“With 5k Your Way, we focus on empowerment over performance and community over competition to help not just those affected by cancer, but also the wider population, to reframe movement as accessible and essential,” says Gossage. 

“We emphasise the social aspect of movement, fostering a sense of belonging, support and mutual encouragement among participants. We share real-life stories from our community to show that movement is possible and beneficial at any stage of recovery.”

The charity delivers Move Mentor training to community groups, equipping volunteers and staff with the knowledge and confidence to support people living with and beyond cancer to move more. 

The charity has also expanded its community engagement work, building partnerships with grassroots organisations across the UK. It aims to reach people affected by cancer who are least likely to access physical activity support, particularly within ethnically diverse and underserved communities, thereby laying the foundations for long-term, community-led behaviour change.

Elijah Bieniemy, the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, won’t make a court appearance until he has completed a mental-health competency evaluation, court records show.

The 27-year-old was arrested on Monday after shooting his mother, Mia, who suffered “multiple gunshot wounds” at their home in Ashburn, Virginia on Sunday.

Elijah was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A new court filing has Elijah’s public defender arguing the client “appears to suffer from significant mental health issues,” according to The Athletic.

The filing also said Elijah “does not appear able to assist in his own defense at the present time.”

The mental-health competency evaluation has reportedly been granted, while a motion for a request for a mental-health evaluation was temporarily withdrawn.

Elijah’s preliminary hearing is now set for Sept. 9 — days before the Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football” to begin the 2026 NFL season.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave an update on Mia on Wednesday while addressing the media, saying “she’s doing great.”

“She’s doing better and great from where she was,” Reid said at training camp. “Out of the ICU unit, happy about that. EB is still with her, that part’s important.”

After the arrest, Elijah was transported to Loudon County Adult Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

The Chiefs coaches and team are set to report to camp at Missouri Western State’s campus this Friday, with veterans having already reported on Tuesday.

The 56-year-old Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator this offseason following time with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears and UCLA’s football squad in collegiate ball.

Former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho is still looking for his next club after being released at the end of his Manchester United contract

Former Manchester United star Jadon Sancho is training at 10th-tier Flixton FC as his wait for a new side goes on. The winger is making use of the club’s facilities to maintain his fitness until securing a transfer.

Sancho’s time at United came to an end when his contract expired in June, leaving him available for a free transfer. The 26-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Aston Villa and Chelsea, having spent half of the previous term at Borussia Dortmund after falling out with Erik ten Hag.

Earlier this week, Sancho spent time at Flixton’s Valley Road ground, not far from United’s Carrington training base. Ryan Giggs’ brother, Rhodri, is said to be serving as assistant manager for Flixton as the team prepares for its first competitive season since reforming.

Flixton FC said: “Great to have Jadon Sancho down at Flixton FC today. The former Manchester United winger has been using our facilities to train, and we had the chance to catch up with him during his visit.

“Thanks for spending some time with us Jadon, and all the very best for what’s next.”

The club posted a video that included a short interview with Sancho. The England international said: “It’s going well, first of all thank you for letting me use your pitch, it’s much appreciated.

“You’ve got a nice layout here. It’s my first time around this area and it’s the first time I’ve seen a nice pitch other than United or City.”

Sancho has reportedly been offered a deal to sign for Qatari side Al Rayyan, who are looking to return to the top of the Qatar Stars League for the first time since 2016. A move would see him link up with ex-Premier League striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored five goals in 11 games after joining in September.

The £73million signing was also spotted in Portugal last week. Sancho spent time with fans in Vilamoura, Quarteira, Portugal, which is just 20 minutes away from Albufeira.

The attacker posed for a photograph with an employee at the Forca Portugal store, a shop that sells Portuguese football products.

A spokesperson for the store said: “Another big name visiting our stores. This time we received a visit from Jadon Sancho at our Vilamoura store. Thank you for the visit.”

Jeeno Thitikul is well aware of the conversation that surrounds her every major championship.

But that doesn’t mean she’s buying into it.

In a year where World No. 1 Nelly Korda won the first two majors and World No. 3 Haeran Ryu won the next two, Thitikul, the World No. 2, is still hunting for her first.

After a round in which Thitikul parred her first three and last three holes and birdied seven of the 12 in between them, she was willing to admit she was pleased with a strong performance in one of golf’s biggest events.

“I knew I hit some good shots, but some of the best shots luckily bounce over the pot bunker,” she said with a laugh. “When it’s your way, it’s really your way. And I knew I had a really good putter today, too.”

As for the big-picture question? Thitikul, who’s 23, demurred.

“It’s nothing. I feel like, I know that I haven’t won one yet, but I feel like I’m so young and then I still have I don’t know how many majors ahead of me,” she said. “I feel like one day it will come if I do my job, like keep improving at my job and then … when my game is ready, I’ll win it. Because when my time comes, it should be sweeter than what it felt.”

The key, Thitikul says, is not to show up thinking about the trophy at the end but focusing on the controllables.

“What I can control is if I’m beating the course every day, I should have a really good chance to be on the leaderboard,” she said. “Because, you know, if you can put a red number on your scorecard every day, which means you beat the course, right, and the golf course in a major week isn’t that easy to be beating.”

On Thursday, just 25 players from the 144-player field finished in red figures. Korda posted two-over 73, while Ryu sits among the group at five under par, T2.

Thitikul’s close calls are well documented; her top finishes at majors date back to her fifth-place finish at the 2021 Evian Championship. She’s logged 11 top-10s since then, her closest call coming in a playoff loss at last year’s Evian, when she lost to Grace Kim’s eagle on the second playoff hole.

She comes into this week in strong form, off consecutive top-10s in majors and with two tournament wins already this season, at the Honda LPGA Thailand and the Mizuho Americas Open.

Now comes her last and biggest test.

“I think majors really tests our games, mentally-wise, physically-wise,” Thitikul said.
