India’s Seema Kaliramna made three successive fouls but her third attempt of 58.65m was enough to clinch a bronze medal in the women’s discus throw, while compatriot Nidhi Rani finished fourth in the Commonwealth Games on Thursday. Seema endured a nervy finish, fouling her fourth, fifth and sixth attempts, but her third-round effort proved enough to hold on to bronze. Tunks then moved to the top with an opening effort of 58.21m before Hall seized the lead with 59.27m.

Nidhi responded with a strong second-round throw of 55.67m to climb to third, but Seema soon leapfrogged her compatriot by launching the discus to 57.32m in the second round.
Tunks improved to 60.67m to strengthen her hold on the silver medal position before Seema enhanced her own mark to 58.65m at the halfway stage, putting herself firmly in contention for bronze.
Hall consolidated her supremacy with a fourth-round effort of 60.95m and then sealed the gold with her best throw of 61.66m in the fifth round.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported on Thursday that Toronto is being given a choice regarding the risk of what the NBA’s conclusion of the investigation.

“This was the Toronto Raptors being given a choice of are you willing to assume the risks of something happening with Kawhi Leonard after the investigation is completed? And they are not willing to assume those risks,” Shelburne said. “If they’re not, and we get to the end of the summer and there’s not a resolution here and there’s nobody from the NBA who can say with 100% certainty that there won’t be any fallout for Leonard, specifically. Then, it’s up to the Raptors.
Shelburne said that there is a chance that Kawhi Leonard could start the 2026-27 NBA season with the Clippers.

“I can see a world in which Kawhi Leonard is back on the Clippers if this trade doesn’t go through. And the Clippers, quite frankly, are fine with that.”
Shelburne added that the Raptors and Clippers are fine with the trade not falling through. LA is willing to accept Leonard back since the issue between them is the contract extension negotiations.
The Raptors Had an Opposite Stance on the Kawhi Leonard Trade
The Raptors addressed their current situation with the Leonard trade on Thursday. According to the statement, the team is willing to assume the risk once the NBA’s investigation ends.
“Regarding our planned trade with the L.A. Clippers for Kawhi Leonard, the NBA league office informed us that as a result of the ongoing investigation involving the Clippers, we would assume the risk of any potential outcome of the investigation impacting Kawhi,” the team stated.
They added that the franchise is “eager” to bring Leonard back to the team. They consider him a major part of their future as they try to contend for the championship.
If he gets traded, it will be Leonard’s second stint with the Raptors. Back in the 2018-19 season, he was traded to the franchise by the San Antonio Spurs. Although he only played one season, it was productive, and he led the team to its first championship. After that, the NBA star joined the Clippers.
Mark Chamberlain and Pierce O’Leary were supposed to collide in March, only for their super-lightweight clash to be cancelled and eventually rescheduled for August 1.
At the time, there was a lack of clarity over the reason for Chamberlain’s withdrawal, which afforded O’Leary just a few weeks’ notice to dispatch Maxi Hughes in five rounds.
Having taken the time to speak with Boxing News, though, Chamberlain can now confirm the extent of his illness earlier this year.

“To clear things up: I had a really bad chest infection. I had an ambulance sent out to my house. They put me on an ECG [electrocardiogram] and said that if I didn’t let my body rest, I’d end up with pneumonia.
“I was on antibiotics for five days and that didn’t help, so I took myself to hospital because my ears started going funny – I had a pressure buildup from all the coughing and sneezing.
“My balance also went funny; I kept feeling dizzy. And all that went on for about five or six weeks. I’m a pretty fit guy, so God knows what that would’ve done to someone less fit.”
The very nature of boxing means that fighters, though immensely robust individuals, will always struggle to maintain a clean bill of health.
For those that cut ludicrous amounts of weight, and essentially put their bodies through hell, it is hardly surprising when a debilitating illness comes knocking.

Remarkably, though, Chamberlain’s recovery process after his all-action ding-dong with Jack Rafferty, in August 2025, was nowhere near as gruelling as those five weeks with a chest infection.
“I went on holiday three or four days [after the Rafferty fight] and felt fine. You train hard, and spar hard, so that your body’s prepared for [a hard fight]. I was good to go the next weekend for another 12 rounds.”
While always seen as a capable combatant, Chamberlain surprised many with his performance against Rafferty.
Not only did he show tremendous spirit and durability, but the Portsmouth southpaw also implemented an effective strategy, counterpunching on the backfoot while often trading in the pocket.
This did not quite see him emerge victorious but, even so, Chamberlain can take ample confidence from his 12-round draw with Rafferty.

Now approaching a similar matchup, the 27-year-old believes he has the tools to spoil O’Leary’s Irish party.
“It feels the same [as the Rafferty fight]. I’m going to the champion’s backyard, again. And I’ll just do me, again.
“[Rafferty] was blasting everyone out, and probably felt he’d do the same to me. I feel like Pierce is thinking the same thing. The way he’s been acting and is coming across, I feel like he’s got a bee in his bonnet. But I’m not a walk-in-the-park fighter for anyone.
“I believe, this time around, I’m an even better fighter.”
Having fully recovered from that nightmare chest infection in March, Chamberlain believes he has come back stronger, ready to stun O’Leary’s army of supporters at Dublin’s 3Arena.
NBC Sports Philadelphia is budgeting to add a courtside voice to its Sixers broadcasts ahead of LeBron James‘s arrival this season, network vice president of content Alexandra Matcham told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I think you need a voice on the court where Alaa [Abdelnaby] and Kate [Scott] can’t be to give us insight, do pre- and postgame interviews, analysis, all of that,” Matcham said. “It’s a very hard job to do.”

For years, NBC Sports Philadelphia and its predecessor, Comcast SportsNet, used reporters like Serena Winters and Taryn Hatcher to fill that kind of role for the Sixers. That stopped in 2020, when the network began eliminating in-arena and in-game reporting jobs across its properties as basketball and hockey seasons wrapped that year, according to Crossing Broad’s Kevin Kinkead. Hatcher stayed on covering the Phillies for five more seasons after that before her contract lapsed at the end of 2025 and NBC Sports Philadelphia cut the position rather than renew it. Kinkead later reported that the network and Hatcher had discussed a freelance arrangement that would have let her take on other work at the same time, but the talks ended without an agreement over what Kinkead’s sources described as a standard contract disagreement, not any real conflict between the two sides.

That left NBC Sports Philadelphia without anyone in that role for the entirety of the Sixers’ 2025-26 season, and the roster now taking shape gives the network far less room to go another year without one.
“If you get a generational talent on your team, it could easily become a situation where the people that work for us are burnt out by December, and you don’t want that,” Matcham said. “You need extra help.”
The shape of the new role hasn’t been decided, and Matcham said she’s been deliberate about not defaulting to the title NBC Sports Philadelphia has used for that kind of position in the past. The network cut its last remaining in-arena reporting jobs across its properties, including the Sixers, starting in 2020, and whatever gets added back now won’t simply be a return to that old model.

“As I’m talking to my colleagues, I’m not even calling it a reporter role because I feel like it’s going to give them a stereotype I don’t necessarily mean,” Matcham said.
Among the options Matcham described is bypassing a generalist Sixers reporter altogether in favor of someone hired specifically for James’s orbit, someone with an existing relationship built from prior coverage of him rather than of the team broadly.
The Scott-Abdelnaby broadcast finished 29th out of 30 teams in AA’s 2025-26 local NBA announcer rankings, the third straight season in that spot. The most common grade fans gave them was a C, and roughly six in ten voters gave them a passing grade at all. Fans praised Scott’s professionalism and criticized Abdelnaby as “too much of a homer.” Several comments also cited the absence of Hatcher as a drag on the broadcast.

Charity, Move Against Cancer, is looking to partner with operators in the fitness industry to get more people living with cancer active.
Recognising the benefits that exercise and community can have for this cohort, Move Against Cancer currently focuses on empowering people to complete 5k in any way they can – be it a jog or walk – or alternatively volunteering or having a coffee and a chat.
The charity was co-founded 10 years ago by oncologist and iron-distance champion, Dr Lucy Gossage, who has experience of working with teenage and young adult cancer patients, along with athlete Gemma Hillier-Moses, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 24.
Already collaborating with PureGym – which offers free membership to young people with cancer who have completed the charity’s bespoke movement programme – the charity is now looking to build more partnerships in the industry. It wants to spread the message that exercise can help to prevent cancer and help fitness professionals make exercise more accessible to people affected by cancer.

“The fitness industry has the expertise, equipment, and infrastructure for exercise. We bring the understanding of the cancer journey and the limitations – physical and psychological – many people with cancer face,” says Gossage.
There are already 130 ‘5k Your Way’ events taking place across the UK each week, located at designated parkrun sites. Every month, the charity is supporting an average of three new groups to get underway. More people are being diagnosed with cancer and also more people are surviving the illness. Exercise is one of the most important things anyone diagnosed with cancer can do to enhance wellbeing and improve health outcomes both during and after treatment.
“With 5k Your Way, we focus on empowerment over performance and community over competition to help not just those affected by cancer, but also the wider population, to reframe movement as accessible and essential,” says Gossage.
“We emphasise the social aspect of movement, fostering a sense of belonging, support and mutual encouragement among participants. We share real-life stories from our community to show that movement is possible and beneficial at any stage of recovery.”

The charity delivers Move Mentor training to community groups, equipping volunteers and staff with the knowledge and confidence to support people living with and beyond cancer to move more.
The charity has also expanded its community engagement work, building partnerships with grassroots organisations across the UK. It aims to reach people affected by cancer who are least likely to access physical activity support, particularly within ethnically diverse and underserved communities, thereby laying the foundations for long-term, community-led behaviour change.

I learned this most painful lesson precisely 12 months ago, — as I stood before a golf bag that didn’t seem to me very overweight at all — and began deconstructing it.
As I stood before the Parisian gate agent responsible for the deconstruction, I learned that many of the things I had allowed myself to believe about transatlantic air travel were, in fact, lies.
It did not matter that my golf bag weighed certainly less than 55 pounds, and very likely less than 50. It did not matter that I had used it for the altogether good and dignified purpose of playing golf in two European countries in the hopes of eventually reporting on their worthiness as destinations for a golf audience. It did not matter that my bag was being loaded into the belly of a Boeing 777 that weighed approximately 300,000 pounds, was nearly a football field long, and featured two enormous GE9X jet engines that would spend the duration of my flight inhaling the air volume of a two-bedroom house every second.
And, if the unsympathetic eyes of the gate agent were any indication, it certainly did not matter that my marginally overweight golf bag would cause me spectacular personal discomfort, stress and embarrassment to rectify in front of a group of increasingly frustrated French travelers.

No, no, sir. The options were to pay the $150 baggage fee or figure it out, no matter how much agony it took. And for the gate agent, the agony might have actually been a perk.
According to the rules, I was less than a kilo overweight. And, according to my infinite American ignorance, a kilo weighed somewhere between … one and a hundred pounds. What was the conversion again? I asked.
“Ze conversion is … you should empty ze bag,” The gate agent said, wearing the faintest of grins.
With my cheeks a crimson mix of embarrassment and rage, I heeded his order. Everything that wasn’t golf clubs was quickly discarded from my golf bag. Clothing was shoved into the nooks and crannies of my roller bag. Gadgets and gizmos I had used to film golf courses were jammed into my backpack. Books were tossed into a tote bag. Food was thrown away.

After what felt like an eternity, the work was complete. I had reapportioned the bag to the exacting standards of the airline. I was under the baggage limit. The gate attendant looked mildly disappointed, but I was indignant. As I stood panting a few steps away from the luggage line, I turned to my fiancee, Jamie, and growled out a promise.
“I will never … ever … do that again.”
Eleven months and two weeks later, I faced my chance to make things right. It was the morning of my departure for the 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The beginning of another European golf adventure that would feature journeys to two of the best tracks in all of England: Royal Lytham and another course named Southport and Ainsdale.
As I got ready to leave, I pulled up the letter I’d written to myself from the Paris airport the previous July. It read like a hostage letter — which I suppose it was.

I’d heard from golf reporters in the past about the beauty of the half-set. I’d learned that it was a great way to keep the game feeling creative and thought-provoking. That it was an intellectually stimulating way of challenging yourself on the golf course (not that I needed much help in that category). That it was a love letter back to golf at its simplest and most essential.
These things might be true, but I knew a half-set was also something else: Roughly half the weight in my golf bag. By packing only a handful of clubs, I could load up on the goodies in my golf travel bag at little personal cost … and still have room left for souvenirs. What a novel concept!
I left for the airport on the evening of my great experiment and felt good. I arrived at Royal Lytham in England and felt great. The golf was exciting and decidedly more creative, navigating “soft” swings and “hard” swings and bunts and squibs and punches and knucklers. I didn’t miss a single club I’d left behind, and hell, I felt like I played better without all the (literal) baggage.
But the real battle was still looming. The one that would come in approximately two weeks’ time, when I departed from Charles de Gaulle airport a second time and faced my date with destiny.

This time through the airport things wouldn’t be as “easy” as they’d been last time — when I was souvenir-free and carrying only the items on my person. This time I’d be carrying a small arsenal of goodies and gifts purchased for friends and loved ones. This time my golf bag would have most of my clothes, thanks to a smaller-than-usual carry-on bag. This time I’d see if my efforts had been worth the effort.
As I unloaded my luggage from the taxi out front of the same terminal at CDG, I felt a twinge of doubt. The bag felt heavy. It hadn’t felt heavy at any point during the trip. Had I over-packed it? Was I losing my mind?
I stepped into the baggage line and weighed my options. If things went south, I could certainly find some more space in my roller bag. Some stuff would have to go, but nothing I was that attached to. I could make it work.
At long last, the gate agent waved me over. It was time for my date with destiny.

I put the bag on the scale, handed over my passport and waited for the verdict.
The gate agent looked over the counter, stone-faced.
“You know ze deal?”
My heart sank. I’d done it again.

“Yes, I know. 23 kilos max. How much do I have to remove?”
The gate agent looked back quizzically.
“Nothing. I am talking about ze oversized luggage. Take it over there.”
And then the bag was back in my hands, tagged and ready for its journey back to the United States.

I was underweight and ready to fly. And now I’m never flying with a full set of golf clubs again.

Elijah Bieniemy, the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, won’t make a court appearance until he has completed a mental-health competency evaluation, court records show.
The 27-year-old was arrested on Monday after shooting his mother, Mia, who suffered “multiple gunshot wounds” at their home in Ashburn, Virginia on Sunday.
Elijah was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A new court filing has Elijah’s public defender arguing the client “appears to suffer from significant mental health issues,” according to The Athletic.
The filing also said Elijah “does not appear able to assist in his own defense at the present time.”
The mental-health competency evaluation has reportedly been granted, while a motion for a request for a mental-health evaluation was temporarily withdrawn.

Elijah’s preliminary hearing is now set for Sept. 9 — days before the Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football” to begin the 2026 NFL season.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave an update on Mia on Wednesday while addressing the media, saying “she’s doing great.”

Former Manchester United star Jadon Sancho is training at 10th-tier Flixton FC as his wait for a new side goes on. The winger is making use of the club’s facilities to maintain his fitness until securing a transfer.
Earlier this week, Sancho spent time at Flixton’s Valley Road ground, not far from United’s Carrington training base. Ryan Giggs’ brother, Rhodri, is said to be serving as assistant manager for Flixton as the team prepares for its first competitive season since reforming.
Flixton FC said: “Great to have Jadon Sancho down at Flixton FC today. The former Manchester United winger has been using our facilities to train, and we had the chance to catch up with him during his visit.
“Thanks for spending some time with us Jadon, and all the very best for what’s next.”

The club posted a video that included a short interview with Sancho. The England international said: “It’s going well, first of all thank you for letting me use your pitch, it’s much appreciated.

Peter Malnati spent much of the day on 59 watch before settling for a 9-under-par 61 and a two-stroke lead at the Rocket Classic on Thursday at Detroit Golf Club.
Malnati went out in 7-under 28 and added birdies at the par-3 11th and par-4 13th hole, positioning himself to go 10 under or better at the par-70 course. Instead, he closed with five pars, with a missed 5 1/2-foot birdie chance at No. 16 along the way.
Malnati, 39, is seeking his third PGA Tour win and angling to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs at the 11th hour. He entered the week 171st in the points race after making just seven cuts in 17 starts this year; he’d jump to a projected 68th place with a win, and the top 70 players as of Aug. 9 will make the playoffs.
Rickie Fowler and Ryan Gerard are two shots back after opening with 7-under 63s. Fowler’s win at this event in 2023 was his most recent win of any kind, while Gerard is once again in the hunt after tying for ninth at the Open Championship two weeks ago.

Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn are tied for fourth at 6-under 64. Michael Kim, who opened the 3M Open last week with a 59, shot an opening 65 Thursday and is tied with Keegan Bradley, Chris Kirk and others as play wound down.
Defending champion Aldrich Potgieter of South Africa struggled to a 6-over 76.
