‘Make It or Break It’ (2009–2012)

Inspired by the 2006 teen comedy-drama film Stick It, Make It or Break It is a teen drama series created by Holly Sorensen that follows the lives of gymnasts aspiring to compete in the 2012 Olympic Games. Ayla Kell, Josie Loren, Cassie Scerbo, and Chelsea Hobbs star as elite-level gymnasts training at a gym called “The Rock” whose lives take an unexpected turn when their head coach is blackmailed into moving to a rival gym. Candace Cameron Bure, Neil Jackson, Anthony Starke, Peri Gilpin, Susan Ward, Johnny Pacar, and Dondré Whitfield star in other main cast roles.

With its combination of likable characters, classic TV drama, and thrilling gymnastics displays, Make It or Break It was a hit with both critics and audiences during its original broadcast on ABC Family. The series aired for three seasons in total, with the third and final season wrapping up just ahead of the real-life Olympics. An engaging sports drama series with winning performances, the show may not be quite as widely known these days, but it’s certainly worth a watch, and it also earned several accolades in its day.

The last question is the most honest one.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…
Advertisement

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

‘Good Omens’ (2019–2026)

Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens is a fantasy comedy series that explores the millennia-spanning relationship between mild-mannered angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and his demon counterpart, Crowley (David Tennant). The first season follows the two unlikely friends as they try to find the Antichrist and prevent the end of the world. The second season, which goes beyond the original novel, follows the duo’s attempts to protect an amnesiac Archangel Gabriel (John Hamm) from both Heaven and Hell, culminating in the extended finale that is Season 3.

Praised by critics and fans, Good Omens is a brilliant book adaptation that successfully captures both the intelligence and ridiculousness of its source material. The series has earned high acclaim for its performances, art, faithfulness to the novel, and musical score, which earned composer David Arnold two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Anchored by Sheen and Tennant’s odd-couple chemistry and perfect comedic timing, the show unfolds a fascinating combination of religious and philosophical themes, irreverent humor, and fantastical visuals, delivering laughs and heartwarming moments in equal measure.

3

‘Scarpetta’ (2026–Present)

Adapted from Patricia Cornwell‘s best-selling crime novels featuring the titular forensic pathologist, Scarpetta is a crime thriller series developed by Liz Sarnoff that stars Nicole Kidman as Kay Scarpetta. The show follows the brilliant medical examiner as she employs advanced forensic technology to solve a crime that ties back to her past. The series also stars Bobby Cannavale, Jamie Lee Curtis, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose in main roles.

A well-crafted crime procedural that avoids the usual genre tropes, Scarpetta is essentially a prestige psychological thriller that blends complex criminal investigations with heavy personal drama. Anchored by the stellar performances, particularly those by Kidman, Lee Curtis, and Cannavale, it’s a compelling show that keeps you hooked with its strong writing and atmospheric settings. Though the critical reception has been somewhat mixed, the show has proven quite popular with audiences, and a second season is currently in the pipeline.

Spider-Man Screening Rocked By ‘Horrific Fart’

Published

Tom Holland and Zendaya present the film 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' in Madrid

Some “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” viewers will not forget this screening day in a hurry!

Cinema-goers trying to catch a glimpse of the box office hit reportedly encountered a rather shocking phenomenon which altered their experience, leaving them with varying expressions.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” starring Tom Holland, reportedly grossed about $360 million over its opening weekend at the domestic box office, breaking the debut box-office record set by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.

The stench was strong enough to dismantle anxious movie lovers, but the same could not be said for the visibility of the culprit, who found a way to blend in with the crowd and rip one without getting caught.

As seen on X, footage from the venue showed the fans leaving in droves, covering their noses in sheer disgust. The caption read, “ALERT: ‘Horrific fart attack’ sent moviegoers running out of the theater in the middle of the new ‘Spider-Man.’”

While the rush to get out of the movie theatre went on, a “Spider-Man” wannabe in his costume was spotted doing next to nothing to salvage the situation. One X user declared, “Even Spider-Man couldn’t save the theater from that one. Bro turned the whole cinema into an evacuation drill.”

Social media commenters also gave the anonymous crowd disperser a well-earned “villain” title. This X subscriber added, “Man knows how to get a movie theater all to himself at the price of just one ticket.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks the Marvel franchise’s fourth installment, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, featuring real-life couple Tom Holland and Zendaya, who also played each other’s love interest in the movie.

New additions to the movie include Sadie Sink, who plays iconic mutant Jean Grey, Jon Bernthal, who plays the role of The Punisher, and Liza Colón-Zayas, who plays Detective Jean DeWolff. The history-making movie was released on July 31, 2026.

Since the public has begun catching up with the brilliance of all the individuals involved in bringing the new flick to life, several reviews have also trailed the over 2-hour watch.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” was set four years after Doctor Strange’s spell wiped Peter Parker’s existence from everyone’s memory, leaving him isolated, broke, and struggling to survive in New York.

As shared by Buzzfeed, a viewer, presumably after getting their cinematic experience, confessed that they started crying while it was at, prompting the couple next to them to subtly mock them for taking the movie seriously.

Another movie watcher tried to visualize the frustration Peter must have felt after hearing the words from MJ along the lines of not knowing him and not loving him because she does not have any memory of him.

This commenter described New York as one of the hottest spots for buzzworthy events this year, from the New York Knicks’ epic victory at the NBA Finals to Taylor Swift’s wedding and now to watching Peter go through the most.

“I understand Peter Parker on a deeper level because i, too, carry the emotional weight of zendaya not knowing i exist every single day (sadie sink would help),” this viewer stressed.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Makes Domestic History

The movie outpaced another Marvel’s masterpiece to become the biggest domestic debut in box office history at $360 million, compared to “Avengers: Endgame” at $357 million. On the global scale, however, according to Variety, it is the second-biggest worldwide debut at $932 million, trailing behind “Avengers: Endgame” with $1.2 billion.

That’s not all; the movie also set the record for the largest preview haul at $72 million, and the biggest opening day for a movie with $169.8 million. Enter into the spotlight, the delightful story of Holland, who is on his fourth son, as the franchise’s main man.

He gathered $880 million globally with the first installment, “Homecoming,” in 2017, then ended his 2019 global box office run with “Far From Home,” smashing $1.13 billion worldwide.

As if that was not enough, the British actor showed up in 2021 with the third installment of the franchise, “No Way Home,” powerfully raking in $260 million at the local box office and a crushing $1.9 billion from around the world.

Tom Holland Credited His Set Day Zen To Zendaya

The couple has dominated red carpets, celebrating the premiere of the flick in memorable looks and gestures that warm the hearts of fans endeared to them over the years. During an interview with Access Hollywood at the London premiere of the movie, Holland gushed about just how pivotal his partner was to the success of the project.

“Zendaya just always brings me an unbelievable sense of calm even in the midst of all of this craziness,” Holland remarked, as he watched Zendaya take the call for photographs on the red carpet.

The actress was also quick to praise Holland’s character as Spider-Man and how he embodied it to inspire little kids. She stressed that it felt good to know that the man behind the blue and red suit was equally kind and genuine.

Shortly before the exchange of praises, Holland was spotted spending time with a group of students in New York City, teaching them how to fine-tune their stunts before helping them bring the short film “Superkids” to life.

Inside The Couple’s Lengthy On-Screen And Off-Screen Relationship

Zendaya and Holland got introduced to the world as a duo on the first installment in 2017, after which they faced off on the “Lip Sync Battle in 2017. The movie stars left a lasting impression in people’s minds as Zendaya performed Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” and Holland a fine mashup of Gene Kelly’s “Singin’ in the Rain” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.”

As noted by NBC New York, four years after their big-screen debut, the duo were spotted kissing in Los Angeles, confirming a relationship, but went on to remain very tight-lipped about their private life.

The couple was hit with engagement rumors last year when a big rock was spotted on Zendaya’s left finger at the Golden Globe Awards in January. The iconic piece was a Georgian-inspired 5-carat east-west cushion-cut diamond ring by Jessica McCormack.

An extra-thin band was added to the collection in 2026, noticed by fans and then followed by a controversial confirmation of a wedding by Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach. Holland had also revealed during an interview in June that his family was present at their secret wedding.

Ariana Grande Clears Air Over Surprise Break Decision

Published

on

31st Annual Critics Choice Awards

Ariana Grande is making sure fans hear the truth directly from her after concerns spread over reports that she plans to step away from the spotlight once her Eternal Sunshine Tour ends.

While speculation quickly linked the decision to the pressures of fame and public scrutiny, the singer told concertgoers in Chicago that the reality is far different.

Instead, Grande said the break has been part of a carefully considered plan that has been in place long before the recent headlines.

Ariana Grande used a pause during her Monday night concert at Chicago’s United Center to address the growing conversation surrounding her decision to step back from “public-facing work” after the Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes on September 1.

The singer explained that reports circulating over the weekend had taken on a life of their own, prompting her to speak directly to fans.

“Sometimes when a story comes out that’s not directly from me, things can get a little blown out of proportion, so I just wanted to speak to my fans directly tonight because I love you so much,” Grande shared in a video circulating on social media.

She stressed that the decision was neither sudden nor reactionary. “The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It was something that I have decided. A plan that I had quietly made a long time ago. It was a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place. And I want you to know that many things can be true at the same time,” she added.

Her remarks followed reports from The Blast that she planned to reduce public appearances after completing her London residency and wrapping up the current tour.

Ariana Grande also addressed one of the biggest assumptions surrounding the news, that online criticism or public scrutiny had pushed her toward taking time away.

According to the Grammy Award winner, that couldn’t be further from reality. She revealed, “I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the far opposite. This is not what that is.”

Grande acknowledged that setting boundaries and taking a break could exist alongside genuine happiness.

“And I just want to be very, very clear, multiple things can be true at the same time,” she said, explaining that boundaries needed to be set and that people sometimes needed a break, while insisting the project “can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life.”

Grande also added that the connection she shared with fans outweighed any outside noise.

Ariana Grande Calls The Tour The ‘Most Healing’ Experience Of Her Career

While the upcoming hiatus has generated headlines, Grande made it clear that she was ending this chapter on an incredibly positive note rather than walking away out of frustration.

“This is what I will always take with me and carry with me, because the rest of that shit is not mine to carry so I don’t carry it,” the “God Is A Woman” hitmaker shared.

Grande closed her message by thanking fans for supporting her throughout the tour.

“And I wanted you to hear that from me,” she said, explaining that she wanted fans to know her truth because she loved them and that the tour had been “the most healing, beautiful, corrective, magnificent, special experience of my life.”

A statement released to PEOPLE after the initial announcement echoed those sentiments, noting that Grande was looking forward to completing the tour “on a high note, both healthily and happily” before enjoying “a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”

The statement also emphasized that the tour had been “a beautiful experience for her” and that she “loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

Grande’s Decision Comes After One Of The Busiest Runs Of Her Career

Rather than signaling a retreat from entertainment altogether, Ariana Grande’s planned break follows one of the busiest stretches of her professional life.

Over the last two years, she has balanced a successful music comeback with a major return to acting.

She starred in “Wicked,” earning an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Glinda, and has since completed work on “Wicked: For Good.”

Her music career has been equally active, with the release of “Eternal Sunshine” in 2024 followed by “Petal” last month.

Meanwhile, her next project is already on the horizon, as she is set to appear in “Focker-in-Law,” which arrives in theaters on November 25.

Ariana Grande’s Planned Break Has Already Reshaped Her Future Projects

Grande’s decision to step back from public-facing work has already affected one major professional commitment.

Alongside the announcement that she’ll take a break after the Eternal Sunshine Tour, it was confirmed that she has withdrawn from the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” where she had been set to star alongside her “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey.

Rather than criticizing the move, the production’s team publicly backed Grande’s decision. “Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George,” the producers said in a statement shared on X

“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support,” they concluded.

The production is expected to move forward with new casting announcements at a later date.

‘The Odyssey’ Demolishes Peter Jackson’s Biggest Lord of the Rings Hit at the Box Office

Published

on

Ian McKellen as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

Despite the staggering performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day this past weekend, The Odyssey managed to stand its ground at the box office. The mythological epic grossed more than $50 million in its third weekend domestically, and combined with Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s $350 million-plus debut, took the domestic box office to a record-breaking $430 million in combined revenue. Produced on a reported budget of $250 million, The Odyssey also passed the $900 million mark worldwide, and will hit the coveted $1 billion milestone by the coming weekend. This will make it director Christopher Nolan‘s third film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide, after The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. The Odyssey remains on track to outgross the two Batman blockbusters in the coming days.

Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy remains etched in movie history as the foremost superhero saga of all time. The three films altered the genre forever and are still seen as the pinnacle of what can be achieved in popular superhero cinema. They did for the genre what Peter Jackson‘s The Lord of the Rings Trilogy did for fantasy films. This past weekend, The Odyssey overtook each installment of Jackson’s original trilogy at the domestic box office, on the back of near-unanimous praise from critics and audiences. The epic currently holds a “Certified Fresh” 94% critics’ score and a “Verified Hot” 97% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, “Reinvigorating an ancient adventure with majestic sweep and sterling work by its colossal ensemble, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey imbues myth with primal human feeling.”

You carry something heavy — and you carry it alone, even when you don’t have to. You were not born for greatness, and that is precisely why greatness chose you. Your courage is not the roaring, sword-swinging kind; it is quiet, stubborn, and terrifying in its refusal to quit. The Ring weighs on you more than anyone can see, and still you walk toward the fire. That is not weakness. That is the rarest kind of strength there is.

You are, without question, the best of them. Not the most powerful, not the most celebrated — but the most essential. Your loyalty is not a trait; it is a force of nature. You would carry the person you love up the slopes of Mount Doom if it came to that, and we both know you’d do it without being asked. The world needs more people like you, and the world is lucky it has even one.

You were born to lead, and you have spent years running from it. The crown is yours by right, but you know better than anyone that right means nothing without the will and the worthiness to back it up. You are tempered by loss, shaped by long roads, and defined by a code of honour you hold to even when no one is watching. When you finally step forward, the world shifts. Because it was always waiting for you.

You have seen more than you let on, and you say less than you know — which is exactly as it should be. You are a catalyst: you do not fight the battles yourself, you ignite the people who can. Your wisdom comes not from books but from an age of watching what happens when it is ignored. You arrive precisely when you mean to, and your presence alone changes what is possible. A wizard is never late.

Graceful, perceptive, and almost preternaturally calm under pressure — you see things others miss and act before others react. You do not need to make a scene to be remarkable; your presence speaks for itself. You are loyal to those you choose to stand beside, and that choice is not made lightly. You have lived long enough to know that the most beautiful things in this world are also the most fragile, and that is why you fight to protect them.

You are loud, proud, and absolutely formidable — and beneath all of that is one of the most fiercely loyal hearts in Middle-earth. You don’t do anything by half measures. Your friendships are forged like iron, your grudges run as deep as mines, and your courage in battle is the kind that makes legends. You came into this fellowship suspicious of everyone and ended it willing to die for an elf. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

You think in centuries and act in absolutes. Order, dominion, control — not because you are cruel by nature, but because you have decided that the world left to itself always falls apart, and you are the only one with the vision and the will to hold it together. You were not always this. Something was lost, or taken, or betrayed, and the version of you that stands now is the answer to that wound. The tragedy is that you’re not entirely wrong — just entirely too far gone to course-correct.

You are a study in contradiction — pitiable and dangerous, cunning and broken, capable of both cruelty and something that once resembled love. You are defined by loss: of innocence, of self, of the one thing that gave your existence meaning. Two voices war inside you constantly, and the tragedy is that the better one sometimes wins, just not often enough, and never at the right moment. You are a warning, yes — but also a mirror. We are all a little Gollum, given the right ring and enough time.

‘Game of Thrones’ Meets ‘Stargate’ in Prime Video’s 6-Season Epic Sci-Fi Series

Published

on

JK Simmons in Counterparts

While The Expanse began life on the Syfy network, it was cancelled after three seasons and eventually picked up by Prime Video for three more seasons before its finale. While Prime Video has always been a home for expansive science fiction and fantasy shows like The Wheel of Time and The Man in the High Castle, picking up The Expanse did a huge service to the show, which took its time finding an audience beyond book readers who knew the series.

Like the massively successful Game of Thrones, The Expanse adapted a wildly complex series and made it accessible to the masses. While taking place officially in our solar system, the show and novels are really about the far reaches of the solar system, and the three-way struggle between the citizens of Mars, Earth, and the outer reaches of the asteroid belt (who are known as Belters). Like Game of Thrones, the worldbuilding is so airtight and efficient that viewers will rarely need to ask anything in the initial setup.

Like the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Expanse book series relies on numerous point-of-view characters to help convey the action and information across its settings. It also benefits from being the right level of hard sci-fi. Like the Stargate film and television series and its use of a titular portal between galactic addresses, The Expanse’s universe is powered by the so-called Epstein Drive, which essentially allows for interplanetary travel. One ship capable of traveling is the Rocinante, piloted by James Holden (Steven Strait), Amos Burton (Wes Chatham), and others.

04

How do you deal with authority you don’t trust?

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix
Advertisement

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max
Advertisement

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner
Advertisement

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune
Advertisement

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars
Advertisement

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

The event that kicks off The Expanse is the kidnapping of Julie Mao (Florence Faivre). If Game of Thrones found its inciting incident when Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) pushed young Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) out of a tower window, Julie Mao’s kidnapping — triggered in part by her status as a Belt operative — leads slowly to the uncovering of a conspiracy that could tear apart the fragile peace of the solar system. While Julie comes from a wealthy family, her participation in fighting with the OPA (Outer Planets Alliance) shows that in the universe of The Expanse, no amount of high-tech space travel can unravel class division. Due to gravitational changes and exploitative sweatshop conditions, the Belters suffer from difficult ailments. Tasked with locating Julie is Belt detective Joe Miller (Thomas Jane), a roughened, cynical detective on the dwarf planet of Ceres.

Across All Six Seasons, ‘The Expanse’ Charts a Unique and Timely Political Atmosphere

While the detective chase that kicks off the show wraps up at the end of the first season (based pretty faithfully on the first half of the Corey book Leviathan Wakes) when Miller has converged with the path of the Rocinante, it’s a good storytelling device that helps to introduce the viewer to the world of The Expanse. The book series, including full novels and short stories, continued to be adapted by the show until its sixth and final season, leading to the exploration of a vast universe not far off from the impressive scale the Stargate universe (from SG-1 to SGU) that goes far beyond the more basic genre thrills of Miller’s exploration. Season 2’s “Paradigm Shift” episode even goes so far as to show Solomon Epstein’s creation of the Drive that becomes the engine for the whole series.

With The Expanse, viewers get the vastness of a fully realized sci-fi universe and the political depth of a show with a great deal on its mind. Its deep dive into a solar system on the brink of all-out war made it one of the richest shows of its kind between Battlestar Galactica and Andor, and great characters like Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams) show the lengths to which propaganda plays a part in wartime, while the extremist Marco Inaros (Keon Alexander) gave the series a wildly compelling antagonist. And thanks to the show’s Prime Video pickup, even the final book set in the initial era, Babylon’s Ashes, was adapted to a truncated last season.

Jameela Jamil Defends Comments About Ariana Grande

Published

on

Jameela Jamil at ELLE Women In Hollywood

Jameela Jamil is addressing criticism of her recent comments about Ariana Grande following the release of the singer’s latest music video, “Petal.” The singer’s appearance sparked major concern, and Jamil was among those who voiced their opinion. The actress has since defended her remarks, saying they were intended to express concern rather than criticize the pop star.

On July 31, Ariana Grande released the music video for her new song “Petal,” which sparked online discussion about the singer’s apparent weight loss. Per The Blast, the singer’s fans expressed concern over her health due to her gaunt appearance.

“The Good Place” actress Jameela Jamil joined the online discourse and replied on model Charli Howard’s Instagram post discussing Grande’s look. “This poor woman is possibly dying right in front of us,” Jamil wrote, adding that the singer’s team was “thoroughly irresponsible” for glamorizing her thin frame.

While many agreed with Jamil and Howard, there were a few who called out the actress for body-shaming and speaking about the singer’s weight publicly, especially since Grande previously requested that people stop making comments about her body.

The Actress Stood By What She Said

Following some backlash, Jamil posted a lengthy reply and said people missed the point of her message and turned what she said into a “b-tch fight.”

“I feel extremely bad for Ariana having almost died of anorexia myself. And it was only due to the people around me intervening INSENSITIVELY once I willfully ignored (and sort of enjoyed) their careful concern, that I survived,” Jamil wrote.

“Everyone is killing her by normalizing this. Silence is complicity when it gets this far,” Jamil continued, citing musician Karen Carpenter, who died of complications from anorexia in 1983 at 32 years old.

It’s important to note, however, that Grande has never publicly stated that she has anorexia or any other eating disorder. Experts also say that a diagnosis cannot be made based on physical appearance alone.

Jameela Jamil Discussed Mental Health And Eating Disorders

On Instagram Stories, the actress commented on the issue further, sharing the pros and cons of speaking about body image and calling it a “trolley problem,” referring to the ethical thought experiment created by a philosopher in 1967.

In the scenario, participants were asked whether they would pull a lever to divert a runaway train onto a track where one person was. If they chose not to pull the lever, the train would continue on its original track, where it would hit five people instead.

“If we comment on her body, we could harm her mental health, which would be awful and nobody wants that. If we don’t comment on her body, we run the risk of normalizing that image to hundreds of millions of teenage girls, kids and even impressionable adults consuming her content,” Jamil wrote.

The actress shared that it has been 10 years since she recovered from anorexia, and she still suffers from the effects of malnutrition. “You are not alone,” she added.

The Actress Spoke Out About ‘Extreme Thinness’ In Hollywood

In November 2025, Jamil took to TikTok and expressed her frustration over Hollywood glamorizing “extreme thinness,” pointing out that many in the business, no matter the age, have their ribs and hip bones “jutting out.”

She said she wasn’t body-shaming anyone, but rather expressing concern about the resurgence of the ultra-thin beauty ideal. “I’m incredibly worried about my peers. Every event I go to, when I hug people, it feels like they’re gonna snap in my hands,” Jamil said.

Following her attendance at BAFTA events in February, Jamil spoke out on Instagram, saying women at the awards show were “scarily thin.” “I resent this beauty standard being pushed on everyone, I resent the obedience of my industry,” she wrote.

Amid the public’s concern about her health, Grande announced, via her representative, that she would be taking a much-needed break after her tour wraps up in September, as The Blast reported. Many assumed she decided to step away from the spotlight after the intense public scrutiny.

During her performance in Chicago on August 3, however, the singer discussed her choice in front of her fans, saying that it wasn’t driven by recent events. Instead, she revealed she made the decision “a long time ago.”

“I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the f-ck opposite,” Grande said, per Billboard.

Jake Lacy Explains Why Furious Doesn’t Show Marshall’s Abuse

Published

on

FURIOUS

Despite its heavy subject matter, there is a reason why Hulu’s Furious doesn’t show Marshall physically abusing Alice in graphic detail.

“So much of the violence that Marshall has inflicted upon Alice is spoken about but not seen,” Jake Lacy exclusively tells Us. “I honestly think it’s maybe more impactful in that way because you certainly, as a reader, for me — or as a viewer — can imagine that visceral experience and then see the guy who’s done it is shocking.”

The actor, 40, says the show benefits from having Marshall try to make amends, adding, “If we just show you all of it, then we’ve defined it for you and you don’t get to participate. It’s always more interesting when it lives in your mind.”

Though the moments of abuse don’t make it on screen, Lacy clarifies that there are no questions about Marshall’s behavior.

“There are scenes where you see him explode and I don’t feel one way or the other about it,” he continues. “I’m just trying to fulfill what’s on the page and this character, so that hopefully, if my piece is as real as it can be, then it plays into the rest of this wonderful story that Liz has written.”

Pulling inspiration from the 1987 film Black Widow, creator Elizabeth Meriwether explores dark themes of abuse and human trafficking in Furious through the eyes of several complex — and often imperfect — characters.

Furious, which airs Mondays, follows FBI agent Alice (Emmy Rossum) as she hunts for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer, played by Lola Petticrew, who targets men who prey on girls.

FURIOUS
Disney/Sarah Shatz

Alice’s relationship with ex Marshall (Lacy), who was physically abusive to her in the past, is also a central focus.

“I was really fortunate [in] the first 10 years of my career to play good guys and good boyfriends, and often that was to complete someone else’s arc,” Lacy shares. “And I really liked The Talented Mr. Ripley where with Matt Damon, you understand him and know where he’s coming from and see his pain or desire. But also, then he does these terrible things.”

Lacy appreciates having the chance to push himself as an actor.

“I just wanted the opportunity to do that,” he tells Us. “So I’ve gotten what I wished for. And now people are like, ‘You’re just playing guys where you’re not a safe person to be around.’ So we’ll see. We’ll see if it swings back — but working on good material is always the goal.”

The crime drama, which also stars Scoot McNairy and Quincy Tyler Bernstine, relies on twists and turns that even the characters don’t see coming. Petticrew, 30, specifically, had their work cut out for them while exploring a murderous character who seeks revenge after years of sexual abuse.

For the actor, that meant finding the balance between fact and fiction.

“You have to toe the line between doing the research that you need to do without exploiting people who’ve been through what our characters have been through,” they explain to Us. “So it was really delicate work.”

Petticrew also made an effort not to bring work home, adding, “You have to be able to go in and do your best work and you can’t do that if you let the work eat away at you. Our cast [was] so phenomenal and we kept each other’s spirits up. Our crew is also just absolutely phenomenal.”

Before jumping into the role, Petticrew did the necessary research.

“Liz pointed me in the direction of a lot of amazing things to read and videos to watch. You have to toe the line between doing the research that you need to do without exploiting people who’ve been through what our characters have been through,” they continue. “So it was really delicate work. But I am also lucky enough that a lot of this stuff is already there in the page because Liz Meriwether is so incredibly talented.”

Furious airs Mondays on Hulu.

Romeo Beckham was spotted channeling his famous dad David Beckham‘s most iconic era during a recent family vacation in Ibiza.

The 23-year-old model stepped out for a daring Jet Ski ride with bleached-blond locks that made him look like his dad during his footballing days.

The Beckham family has endured strained ties among its members, with eldest son Brooklyn essentially distancing himself from the rest of the family.

Romeo Beckham looked like a carbon copy of his father David Beckham’s younger self when he stepped out late last week for a solo Jet Ski ride during his family holiday in Ibiza, per The Daily Mail.

The second-eldest Beckham son showed off his athletic build in a dark life jacket and bright green shorts as he cruised across the Mediterranean.

His wet, bleached-blond hair also caught attention, resembling his legendary father’s turn-of-the-millennium hairstyle, which helped cement David’s place as one of soccer’s most fashionable stars at the time.

Romeo appeared deep in thought at one point as he rested his jaw on one hand, flashing his growing collection of tattoos.

Romeo and his girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, were previously seen enjoying a Jet Ski ride during his family’s holiday in Formentera. The 25-year-old model appeared in high spirits as she kept things chic in a burgundy two-piece, while Romeo wore “Baywatch”-inspired red swimming shorts.

His famous parents, David and Victoria, were also seen packing on the PDA. The fashion designer wrapped her arms and legs around the football legend as he steered their speedboat through the waters off Formentera.

David went shirtless and wore a white baseball cap for the sun-soaked outing, while Victoria opted for a black swimsuit. The couple, who tied the knot in 1999, appeared as smitten with each other as ever.

The holiday season has afforded the Beckhams a much-needed family time before the football season commences. However, their other son Cruz has not been able to join in as his band The Breakers continue their North American tour.

They’ve been visiting different parts of the Balearic Islands on their luxury £16 million ($21.5 million) yacht, Seven, which the power couple bought in 2022.

Named after his Iconic football shirt number and their daughter Harper’s middle name, the vessel boasts five cabins, a 65ft garage, and a luxury spa on its upper deck. It can comfortably sleep ten people and seven crew members, and has a jet ski and other water toys.

Meanwhile, the family has made headlines in recent years because of its lingering discord with eldest son Brooklyn. He has missed major Beckham family occasions, including David’s 50th birthday celebration, and did not publicly acknowledge Mother’s Day or Father’s Day this year.

He has since blocked his parents on Instagram and accused them of attempting to sabotage his marriage to Nicola Peltz.

In a series of Instagram Stories earlier this year, Brooklyn broke his silence on the state of his relationship with his famous parents. He announced that he was cutting ties with them and was not interested in reconciling.

“I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” Brooklyn wrote.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled; I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Brooklyn Accused Victoria Beckham Of Ruining Wedding Dance

The 27-year-old model went on to describe several instances in which his parents allegedly tried to harm his marriage.

He claimed that maintaining a public image was more important to them and that family love was “decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo.”

A source previously described an incident that allegedly crossed the line for him, claiming that his mother, Victoria, hijacked what was supposed to be his first dance with Nicola during their 2022 wedding.

Addressing the report in his scathing Instagram Stories post, Brooklyn accused Victoria of dancing “inappropriately” on him, adding that he had never “felt more uncomfortable or humiliated” in his life.

He also alleged that his mother refused to make Nicola’s wedding dress at the last minute after previously promising to do so. Brooklyn further claimed that his family told him his now-wife was “not blood” and “not family” on the night before their wedding.
