Kansas State fires coach Jerome Tang days after viral video rant

Published

on

Kansas State fired fourth-year basketball coach Jerome Tang on Sunday, a source told CBS Sports.

Athletic director Gene Taylor subsequently revealed late Sunday night he made the decision to fire Tang following K-State’s loss at houston on Saturday. The move comes less than four days after Tang’s postgame rant went viral following an embarrassing 91-62 home loss to Cincinnati on Thursday. a

“This was a decision that was made in the best interest of our university and men’s basketball program,” Taylor said in a statement. “Recent public comments and conduct, in addition to the program’s overall direction, have not aligned with K-State’s standards for supporting student-athletes and representing the university. We wish coach Tang and his family all the best moving forward.”

The Wildcats are 10-15 and in the midst of their second-worst season in the past 20-plus years. Kansas State ranks 101st at KenPom.com and is 1-11 in the Big 12. The team is headed toward a second straight sub-.500 season despite being one of the bigger spenders in the transfer portal the past two offseasons.

Kansas State will attempt to fire Tang for cause. Tang has a buyout of more than $18 million, per the terms of his contract, but Taylor believes Tang’s public criticisms of the players and the response that press conference spurred in the national media violated the terms of his contract.

Tang released a statement disputing Kansas State’s assessment of the program.

“I am deeply disappointed with the university’s decision and strongly disagree with the characterization of my termination. I have always acted with integrity and faithfully fulfilled my responsibilities as head coach,” Tang said. “I am grateful to the players, staff, and fans who make this program so special. I remain proud of what we built together and confident that I have always acted in the best interests of the university and our student-athletes.”

Associate head coach Matthew Driscoll has been named interim head coach for the rest of the season.

LISTEN: Matt Norlander breaks down Tang’s final days at K-State on this emergency edition of the Eye on College Basketball podcast.

Tang went 71-57 in less than four seasons on the job, including a 29-39 mark in the Big 12. He was hired in 2022 and an immediate success: He guided the Wildcats to the Elite Eight with a No. 3 seed and finished 26-10 thanks to the dynamic duo of point guard Markquis Nowell and forward Keyontae Johnson. Nowell’s 19 assists in a Sweet 16 victory vs. Michigan State at Madison Square Garden set both an NCAA Tournament record and an optimistic tone for the Tang era, but it’s been a litany of letdowns ever since.

K-State is coming off a 78-64 loss at No. 3 Houston on Saturday. Tang had the players’ names removed from the back of their jerseys for that game in a questionable move that followed his criticism of KSU players following the Wildcats’ loss to the Bearcats.

“This was embarrassing,” Tang said Wednesday night at his press conference. “These dudes do not deserve to wear this uniform. There will be very few of them in it next year. I’m embarrassed for the university, I’m embarrassed for our fans, our student section. It is just ridiculous.”

That’s the quote that has Tang’s legal team and Kansas State’s lawyers set to battle in the weeks ahead. If K-State wins, it won’t pay Tang another dime. If it loses, Tang will have more than $18.5 million coming his way. There is also the realistic possibility that the parties wind up settling somewhere in the wide gulf between those two numbers.

Did the Vikings Really Make a Big Mistake with Sam Darnold?

Published

Sam Darnold warms up before Vikings vs. Seahawks game at Lumen Field.

The NFL season is now officially over. The Minnesota Vikings missed the postseason at 9-8 after going 14-3 the previous year. The Seattle Seahawks just won their first Super Bowl since 2013. Who was Minnesota’s quarterback last season and Seattle’s this season?

It was Sam Darnold.

Many have criticized Minnesota big time this whole season, especially now—certainly not a surprise given how both teams finished.

The Vikings’ Quarterback Gamble Sparks Debate

Yes, it is very easy to criticize Minnesota for moving on from a quarterback who helped them win 14 games the previous season to start the still unproven J.J. McCarthy. As crazy as it sounds, it was not as bad a decision as it seems.

Minnesota needed to know, sooner or later, whether McCarthy is the answer. Yes, he may never pan out for the franchise or even in the NFL as a whole. He still can, though. Still early to write him off.

Minnesota Vikings Sam Darnold

Staying healthy has been his biggest problem after two seasons. He missed all of his rookie season due to a torn meniscus, which he suffered in the first preseason game. This past season, he missed 7 games due to 3 injuries (ankle, concussion, hand). At the same time, he struggled most of the time on the field, but he played better in his final four games.

Had Minnesota not made it to the Super Bowl with Darnold this past season, there is a very good chance many would have said they should have just started McCarthy on his rookie deal and used the extra cap space elsewhere.

They had a very active free agency due to the large amount of cap space. Signing Ryan Kelly, Javon Hargrave, and Jonathan Allen all looked like great moves at the time. Neither panned out, but at the time, they were considered great signings. Kelly played well while he was on the field, but missed nine games total due to having three concussions.

They were also able to re-sign Byron Murphy Jr and sign Isaiah Rodgers. Murphy did not have as good a year as he did in 2024, but he still had a good year. Rodgers had a good year.

Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who could shock people in 2025, at OTAs in May.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy at organized team activities (OTAs) in May 2025 from a video shared by the team’s website. Minnesota drafted McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in 2024.

Many would have also wondered how McCarthy would have played, especially given all the weapons he would have had.

Would Minnesota have made it to the Super Bowl with Darnold in 2025? Unlikely. You never know in this league, but it is hard to see how that would have happened. There is a very good chance they would have advanced to the second round of the playoffs and, just maybe, to the NFC Championship Game.

Had they advanced to the Super Bowl, would they have won it? Also hard to have seen as a possibility.

Seattle overall has a better roster than Minnesota. Darnold also threw 35 touchdowns in 2024 and 25 this past season. His team this past season did better than his team from 2024 despite that. Once again, Seattle has a better roster.

Aug 10, 2024; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold (14) throws a pass against the Las Vegas Raiders during the first quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports.

If McCarthy pans out, this will not be a bad decision at all, despite Darnold helping his team win the Super Bowl. If he becomes a bust, it will be a bad decision in hindsight, but it still would have made sense at the time, given he was just drafted the year before in hopes that he would someday be the quarterback of the future.

At the moment, Minnesota is $40 million over the salary cap via Over the Cap. McCarthy is due nearly $6 million in 2026, while Darnold is due $37.9 million. They would have had to work that much harder to get under the cap if they re-signed Darnold.

Minnesota is also set to draft 18th overall and will have a third-place schedule in 2026. Maybe both will really benefit them. A year from now, McCarthy could make Minnesota look very good. He then would also enter 2027 still under his rookie deal.

Spike Lee’s pro-Palestinian outfit catches eyes at NBA All-Star Game

Spike Lee was seated courtside at the Intuit Dome in Southern California for the NBA All-Star Game, but it was his outfit that caught attention during the event.

Lee wore a Pro-Palestinian look to the festivities in Inglewood, California, as the league put its new format on display, which featured World All-Stars and All-Stars from the U.S. on Team Stars and Team Stripes.

The World All-Stars featured Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija. It was the first time an Israeli-born player appeared in an All-Star Game. Avdija wore the Israeli flag on the back of his jersey for the game.

Lee didn’t make any extra statement, but his outfit was enough of a message.

“I feel like when I come to play, I come with the entire nation, and it’s fun to show that it’s possible, even for a small country like us,” he said after the game, via Times of Israel.

While political issues didn’t appear to seep into the game, Houston Rockets star Alperen Sengun was asked about his relationship with Avdija on Saturday. Sengun is Turkish and the relationship between the two countries is far from strong.

“You know, I think that stuff is a lot bigger than ours. We just going to represent our country, here, you know, the best we can. Deni is the same harder worker,” Sengun told reporters. “You know, great guy, great person. One of my good friends in this league.

“And like I said that stuff are a lot bigger than our stuff. We are just here doing what we love, and other stuff is out of our control. And hopefully, you know, of course basketball is the thing hopefully bring everyone love, and stay together, you know, that’s what we are here for. And like I said, the other stuff is out of our control, and hopefully, you know, it’s all got into peace in all world, and that’s all we wanted.”

‘If we don’t make it to the next round’: Rashid Khan breaks silence after UAE win | Cricket News

'If we don't make it to the next round': Rashid Khan breaks silence after UAE win
Afghan skipper Rashid Khan (ANI Photo/Jitender Gupta)

Afghanistan kept their Super Eights hopes alive with a five-wicket win over UAE on Monday, but qualification is still out of their hands. After the victory, South Africa moved into the Super Eights from Group D with six points from three matches. New Zealand, who have four points from three games, can seal the second spot if they beat Canada in Chennai on Tuesday. In that case, Afghanistan, currently on two points from three matches, will be knocked out even if they defeat Canada in their final group match on February 19 in Chennai.

Axar Patel press conference: ‘We see them as a team, don’t see rivalry’ after India beat Pakistan

Captain Rashid Khan remained hopeful despite the uncertainty. “Hoping for the best. Yes, (we) still have a little bit of hope, we can make it to the next stage and we just need to come up with a positive mindset (against Canada),” Rashid said at the post-match presentation. “Next game, you never know, it’s a T20 game, we’ll have to come up with a good brand of cricket. Even if we don’t make it to the next round, we want to play with the same brand of cricket and make the country and our people proud and happy.” Rashid said he was pleased to get points on the board after the heartbreaking loss to South Africa in a match decided in the second Super Over. “Happy to finish with a win, it’s important to have points in a T20 World Cup. To restrict them (UAE) under 160 was a good effort, we pulled things back, but we didn’t do well in the first 10 overs. That’s been a problem for us in all the games and something we need to work on,” he said. “We know how aggressive he (Rahmanullah Gurbaz) is. He goes out with a positive mindset – it doesn’t always work, but it’s good for the team when he gets going. We’ve quite a lot of experience, Azmat (Azmatullah Omarzai) has played a lot, (Mohammad) Nabi is the most experienced guy in the team. It’s always good to have experience and that’s something most important.” Player of the Match Azmatullah Omarzai, who returned figures of 4/15 from four overs and struck 40 not out off 21 balls, explained his approach. “I was trying to bowl in the hard length and hit the pitch hard. “It was funny, first ball was a wicket, but the ball didn’t didn’t carry. I took four wickets again. That first wicket got the momentum for us. “When I went to bat, I looked at the scoreboard. There were a lot of balls (left) for us. We needed to play straight and rotate the strike and I was speaking to my partner, (to) just play straight and we were waiting for the bad ball. “It was a good game where everyone did really well and everyone did hard work (on the South Africa game), but the result did not work our way, but we came back really well and hope we will do it again in the next match.

Types of welcome promos

FanDuel and DraftKings offer bet and get offers where the customer must win the first wager to receive the bonus bets (which expire after seven days). bet365 offers a similar bet and get welcome bonus, but the player will receive their bonus bets regardless of the outcome of their initial wager.

BetMGM’s offer of a no sweat bet up to $1500 essentially gives the customer a do-over if their first bet loses. However, the no sweat bet is paid in bonus bets, so if that second bet hits, the player will not receive the stake, only the winnings.

Crab Sports’ introductory offer most resembles Caesars, where a 100% profit boost is available to new customers. The difference is that Caesars offers 20 100% profit boosts (with a max. stake of $25 each) while Crab Sports gives new users one chance to go big up to $500.

How to place a bet on Crab Sports

Placing a straight wager is relatively straightforward on Crab Sports, with the user needing to click on the sport, game, and market of their choosing before selecting the dollar amount and placing the bet. For parlays and round robins, tabs appear in the betting slip, making this process easy.

For SGPs, it’s a bit trickier compared to most other sportsbooks. A user must click on the game of choice, followed by the Same Game Parlay option, select multiple plays, and click Add to Betslip before placing the wager. Multiple SGPs are able to be combined into parlays. Get started now:

Crab Sports promo and bonuses for existing users

Like most sportsbooks, Crab Sports features promotions for existing users that can enhance the value of their bets. With both profit boosts and no sweat options, there is plenty for Maryland users to enjoy after the initial welcome bonus.

Deposit matches

Occasionally, sportsbooks offer deposit matches in which the user must deposit a required amount or more before receiving additional funds via cash or bonus bets. Most sportsbooks will require the deposit + bonus amount to be wagered before requesting a withdrawal. For Crab Sports, after the first bet, all cash winnings may be withdrawn as any no sweat bets aren’t considered cash.

No Sweat Bet tokens

Users can apply a token where, if the selected bet loses, the player will get a refund in the form of a free bet, which is not redeemable for cash.

Boosted Odds

Generally, two-leg Same Game Parlays are where the sportsbook will enhance the odds to make it more enticing to bettors.

Profit boosts / SGP profit boosts

Like most sportsbooks, Crab Sports offers profit boosts for parlays and occasionally straight wagers. Some profit boosts incentivize adding more legs to the parlay for a greater boost.

Crab Sports user experience

The user experience at Crab Sports is friendly as the sportsbook relies on a simplistic design where the odds pop due to a different color scheme than the rest of the text. The menus are easy to follow and choosing a sport or game is no more difficult than at any other sportsbook.

User Interface

The design of the site is appealing with several variations of blue mixed with a grey color scheme, with black, white, and blue text. I like that the odds pop on the site, with a larger font and navy-blue text against a grey background. While the design looks a bit antiquated compared to the national competition, I can’t say that it’s a deterrent by any means from playing on the site.

Crab Sports Home Screen Layout

On desktop, the home screen features rotating banners with promotions and top games for that night. Live betting is prominently featured in the center with the games from around the world currently in play. On the left side, Links, Popular, and All Sports give the user plenty of menu options, as does a bar with each sport’s icon towards the top. The My Selections tab on the right is visible throughout so you can see which picks you have selected. Overall, Crab Sports provides a clean look and is easily navigable on computers.

On mobile, the home screen shows the sport icons at the very top, followed by rotating banners, and the live games. The menus at the bottom include Home, A-Z Sports, an icon to view your selections, Live, and My Bets. Once again, a very clean design for users and easy to navigate for both new and experienced players.

Sportsbook app design, speed, functionality

Similar to the desktop site, the odds pop on the app with larger navy-blue text against a lighter background. The functionality works similarly to the desktop site and lag doesn’t seem to be an issue in my testing. But it’s hard to compare Crab Sports’ app to the feature-rich national brands such as DraftKings and FanDuel.

For players who know what they want to bet when coming to the site, Crab Sports provides a fine experience. But if you’re looking to browse random odds and categories, you have to go game-by-game at Crab Sports vs. menu items showing all games on several other sites.

Geolocation issues can be common on any sportsbook app, but in most cases, has not been a major complaint of Crab Sports customers thus far. Sign up here:

Quality of odds

In terms of the standard money line, spread, and totals, Crab Sports is comparable to most other sportsbooks. When it comes to props, though, the selections are much fewer compared to the larger sportsbooks, which allow more customization as compared to just over/under a set yardage or hits total for example.

The Same Game Parlay builder seems like a first-generation version of what we see on the likes of DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics now and can be tedious. You must click on the builder before adding SGP picks, which is a feature of the past on most books.

There have been customer reviews stating that live betting cashout offers don’t compare favorably to most other sportsbooks, with early cashout offers seemingly lower than other books.

Crab Sports key betting features

Crab Sports offers many of the same betting features found in most apps, including:

Early Cashout

While its offers are not as financially friendly as some of the larger sportsbooks, Crab Sports does offer the ability for users to get out of eligible bets before their conclusion with a profit or loss.

Live Betting

Crab Sports gives Maryland users the opportunity to bet during just about any sporting event while in progress. Odds changes are easy to note with green and red arrows upon any line movement.

SGP generation

Not only can users create SGPs, they may parlay multiple SGPs, albeit each one must be created separately. For eligible games, a Same Game Parlay button appears which must be selected before options are chosen.

How to track your bets on Crab Sports

On desktop, the My Selection tab on the right side of the page makes it easy to follow along with your bets. The My Bets tab allows you to view your existing wagers.

On the app, the icon of a ticket in the center at the bottom makes it easy for players to make their selections. To track selections on the app, My Bets on the bottom right is the place to click.

Crab Sports customer support

In addition to comprehensive help, rules, and FAQ pages, users with an issue may email support@crabsports.com, with the response time usually within an hour or two. Crab Sports does not feature a live chat as most other sportsbooks offer.

Crab Sports review: Final verdict

For Maryland users, Crab Sports is a fine alternative to the national sportsbooks. The design is simplistic but the interface is easy to use. If you’re looking for the bells and whistles of additional menus, a search function, and more individual player betting options, then this isn’t the right sportsbook for you. But if you’re located in the state and want to take advantage of the generous signup offer, Crab Sports is worth a long look.

The app works well and betting pregame or during the live action is easy. Betting SGPs is slower than at other sportsbooks, but at least it is still possible. There are limited options for deposits / withdrawals and the customer support is only via email. This sportsbook does not offer a rewards program as of now. Nonetheless, I recommend giving Crab Sports a shot if you’re in Maryland.

Honest feedback for how Crab Sports can improve

  • Enhance Same Game Parlay betting: Compared to other sportsbooks, betting SGPs is slow. Clicking on multiple lines / props from the same game should automatically trigger an SGP, whereas now it only works if you press a specific button.

  • Offer more menus for betting selected markets: Similar to BetMGM who also falls short in this category, Crab Sports should create menus so users don’t have to click on each game separately to add a certain market.

  • More deposit and withdrawal options: It seems almost standard that options such as PayPal and Venmo, which allow seamless money transfers, should be allowed at every sportsbook. This is a necessary addition in due time for Crab Sports.

LeBron James unsure about NBA future after record 22nd All-Star Game

Published

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

LeBron James wants to remain in the present — he isn’t focused on the future yet.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar enjoyed playing in his 22nd All-Star Game on Sunday night at the Intuit Dome for Team Stripes in the revamped format the league put in place this season.

The media was curious if this wasn’t just his final All-Star Game, but rather his final NBA season, as the 41-year-old has yet to make a decision for the 2026-27 season.

But, as he’s said in the past, James doesn’t know just yet what he wants to do.

“I want to live,” he told reporters before playing in the game. “When I know, you guys will know. I don’t know. I have no idea. I just want to live, that’s all.”

LEBRON JAMES ENDS HISTORIC 21-YEAR STREAK AFTER MISSING TOO MANY GAMES THIS SEASON

James was initially supposed to speak during Saturday’s availability, but he called his own news conference on Sunday, prompting some to speculate that he was going to make a decision about his future.

Instead, it was nothing of the sort.

James’ 22 All-Star Game appearance is an NBA record that he continued on Sunday. While it’s a given that he will be in the game every season he keeps playing, James does remain a high-impact player for the Lakers.

This season, James has played in 36 games, averaging 22 points, 7.1 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game for the team in fifth place in the Western Conference.

James, though, broke his streak of consecutive All-NBA Team appearances after 21 straight nominations after missing his 18th game this season. James won’t qualify for the 65-game minimum needed to be considered for league awards, as per the collective bargaining agreement.

For the first time since 2004, James won’t be on any of those teams.

James’ legacy in the NBA needs no explaining. He owns multiple all-time records, including most points scored by a single player, which continues to increase by the game.

And while it appears he can at least go one more season, speculation will continue to flourish as long as James doesn’t give a definitive answer about his future. That speculation ranges from one more season with the Lakers, to a retirement tour with the Cleveland Cavaliers — his hometown team he began his career with and won an NBA championship with.

Nduka Odizor: Nigeria’s greatest Tennis Player

Published

on

Nduka Odizor is widely regarded as the most successful tennis player Nigeria has ever produced.

Odizor reached a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 52 and No. 20 in doubles in 1984, figures that remain the highest ever achieved by a Nigerian player. During the 1980s, he competed regularly on the ATP Tour at a time when very few African players were present at the top level.

He is also the only Nigerian to have played in the main draw of all four Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. That achievement still stands unmatched.

All through his career, Odizor spent several seasons inside the top 100, reached ATP finals in singles and doubles, and recorded wins against established tour players. His performances helped raise Nigeria’s profile in international tennis.

After retiring, Odizor continued being involved in the sport through coaching and player development, continuing to contribute to tennis in Nigeria.

Decades later, his records remain intact, and his career is still the benchmark for Nigerian tennis.
