3 American Horse Racing Festivals Every Bettor Should Follow This Summer

Published

on

Summer is one of the most exciting periods on the American horse racing calendar, bringing together historic venues, elite horses, and prestigious stakes races that attract nationwide attention.

Each festival offers distinctive racing conditions, competitive fields, and compelling storylines that keep enthusiasts engaged while helping shape the championship picture later in the season.

From Saratoga’s traditions to Del Mar’s coastal showcase, these events provide valuable opportunities to follow top-class racing while watching the sport’s leading horses progress toward the biggest races of the year. The following three racing festivals represent some of the most notable events to follow throughout the season and into the fall.

1. Saratoga Delivers Historic Summer Racing

July 3 – September 7

Few American racecourses carry the prestige of Saratoga Race Course. Opened in 1863, it remains one of the country’s most celebrated sporting venues, blending tradition with a summer schedule filled with elite competition. Racing fans return each year for its unique atmosphere, where history and modern championship racing meet on one of the sport’s most respected stages.

The lengthy Saratoga meet provides a steady stream of competitive racing across several weeks. Daily cards feature a balanced mix of maiden races, allowance contests, and graded stakes, giving followers countless opportunities to study evolving form. As horses continue progressing throughout the summer, fresh storylines emerge almost every racing day.

The biggest attractions are the Whitney Stakes and Travers Stakes, both drawing leading owners, trainers, and jockeys from across North America. Many horses arrive after strong spring campaigns, creating exceptionally deep fields. When reviewing 2026 Whitney Stakes picks, many racing enthusiasts compare recent Grade 1 performances, pace scenarios, and previous Saratoga form before assessing the race’s leading contenders.

Saratoga has also earned a reputation for producing memorable surprises. Heavy favorites have occasionally been denied by improving rivals capable of delivering career-best performances. That unpredictability adds another layer of intrigue, encouraging racing enthusiasts to examine every contender carefully as each summer festival unfolds.

Saratoga’s demanding schedule also rewards consistency from both horses and connections. Trainers who regularly target the meet often arrive with carefully planned campaigns, while experienced jockeys understand the track’s unique characteristics. Those familiar patterns provide additional context when evaluating contenders throughout the festival’s marquee races and daily cards.

2. Del Mar Anchors West Coast Action

July 17 – September 7

Set beside the Pacific Ocean, Del Mar offers one of the most distinctive settings in American racing. Its relaxed coastal atmosphere combines with high-quality competition to create a summer meeting that attracts fans from across the United States. The venue has become synonymous with premier West Coast racing and continues to host some of the season’s biggest events.

The meeting regularly welcomes accomplished horses from California, Kentucky, New York, and other major racing regions. These cross-country shippers introduce new form lines while creating fascinating matchups between horses that rarely meet elsewhere. Their arrival strengthens both stakes races and supporting cards throughout the festival.

The Pacific Classic stands as Del Mar’s signature event and one of the country’s leading Grade 1 dirt races. Many participants use it as an important stepping stone toward the Breeders’ Cup, making the race an early indication of autumn championship contenders. Elite older horses frequently arrive with impressive credentials earned throughout the first half of the season.

Del Mar’s relatively consistent racing surface also assists handicappers evaluating previous performances. Horses that have already demonstrated success under similar conditions often bring previous success under similar conditions into the meeting. Combined with established pace patterns and quality competition, that consistency makes Del Mar one of the summer’s most closely followed racing festivals.

3. The Breeders’ Cup Crowns the Racing Season

October 30 – 31

The Breeders’ Cup stands as the defining championship event in North American thoroughbred racing, bringing together many of the world’s best horses for two days of elite competition. Held at a different host venue each year, the festival features championship races across multiple divisions, from turf and dirt specialists to top-class sprinters, juveniles, and older horses. Success on this stage often shapes year-end Eclipse Award voting and can significantly influence a horse’s legacy within the sport.

What makes the Breeders’ Cup particularly compelling is the diversity of its fields. Champions from major American circuits regularly face accomplished international runners from Europe, Asia, and beyond, creating matchups rarely seen elsewhere during the season. Differences in racing styles, preferred surfaces, and tactical approaches often produce fascinating contests that reward adaptability as much as outright ability.

Preparation for the Breeders’ Cup begins months before the starting gates open. Horses typically qualify through the international “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series or arrive after strong performances in prestigious Grade 1 races throughout the year. Their form, recent competition, distance preferences, and experience on similar tracks all become important talking points as anticipation builds toward championship weekend.

The event also serves as the culmination of the racing calendar, with standout performances frequently defining careers and influencing future breeding value. Whether an established champion reinforces an already impressive résumé or an emerging contender announces itself on the biggest stage, the Breeders’ Cup consistently delivers races that resonate well beyond the final finish line, making it one of the sport’s most anticipated annual spectacles.

A Summer Calendar Worth Following

America’s leading racing festivals each contribute something unique to the season. Saratoga celebrates tradition with its historic Whitney and Travers Stakes, Del Mar showcases elite West Coast competition capped by the Pacific Classic, and the Breeders’ Cup brings the year to its championship climax with the sport’s best horses from around the world.

Together, these events showcase the depth, history, and variety that make American horse racing one of the sport’s most engaging calendars to follow. As horses continue building toward the year’s biggest championship races, these festivals remain key moments for fans to follow the stories, rivalries, and performances shaping the season.

MANILA, Philippines–Titan Ultra is set to finally ship two-way star Joshua Munzon to TNT after months of negotiations between the two PBA teams.

Under the proposed deal sent to the PBA Commissioner’s Office, Munzon will head to the Tropang 5G in exchange for rookie center Joe Celzo and a first-round pick in the Season 53 Draft.

READ: PBA: Joshua Munzon tunes out trade rumors amid Titan woes

An approval will be needed before Munzon can head to the TNT, which has been interested in acquiring the two-time All-Defensive Team member and last season’s Most Improved Player.

It also came on the same day that Titan Ultra played minus Munzon when it was clobbered by San Miguel Beer, 143-113, in the Governors’ Cup at Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Initial reports said that Munzon didn’t play due to “flu-like symptoms.”

TNT and Titan have been discussing the possibility of a swap involving Munzon dating back to the Commissioner’s Cup.

Sources said that both parties initially had a handshake agreement that would see TNT getting Munzon in exchange for Rey Nambatac, before the deal fell through.

Instead of Nambatac, the slumping Giant Risers are getting Celzo, taken in the fourth round and 46th overall by the Tropang 5G during last year’s Draft.

Celzo has played just one game this conference, ironically against Titan, before being relegated to the injured/reserve list.

The pick, meanwhile, will be available around the period of 2029 or 2030.

MANILA, Philippines––NLEX import DeQuan Jones underwent successful surgery on his right leg after suffering the gruesome injury during a 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup game against TNT at Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Team governor Ronald Dulatre on Wednesday posted a social media photo of him and Jones on his hospital bed, a day after he got hurt in the third quarter of the Road Warriors’ 118-111 overtime victory.

According to Dulatre, Jones seems to be “in high spirits.”

“Hoping [and] praying for your speedy recovery buddy,” Dulatre said on his Facebook page.

Jones was injured after an awkward fall, followed by TNT’s Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser landing on his leg. A remorseful Ganuelas-Rosser later said the incident was purely accidental.

The Road Warriors are still in the process of finding a replacement for Jones, who has been one of the reasons for the team’s 7-1 win-loss slate and hold on top spot in Group A.

PSG vs Aston Villa LIVE: Team news and latest updates as European champions clash in Super Cup

PSG targeting more trophies

PSG have collected nine trophies in the past two seasons under Luis Enrique.

“We set out ambitious objectives and we continue to do so,” he said. “In this moment it’s a different scenario because everyone thinks we can win again. But we need to show our level on the pitch.

“If you look back in history it’s difficult to find a team that wins all the time – but that’s what we are striving for.”

Enrique rues lack of preparation time for World Cup players

Luis Enrique has only had one week of pre-season with his players who reached the latter stages of the World Cup.

That is because they needed a break before returning for pre-season but the PSG manager isn’t overly pleased with the situation.

“We are going to train today,” Enrique told reporters yesterday. “We are tying to analyse everything and after that we are going to make our decision.

“It’s a surreal situation. The international players, French, Spanish, arrived on Monday. That’s just one week.

“But we prepared in the best way possible and we’re happy to play this game, because it means we won an important title, the Champions League. It’s very important for us and our club to win. But in terms of preparation, it’s not what it should have been.”

Is Barcola heading to Liverpool?

One of the longest rumours of the summer transfer window has been Liverpool interest in PSG winger Bradley Barcola. So is he heading to the Premier League?

“I don’t know and I don’t want to speak about any player individually,” PSG manager Luis Enrique said.

“Because it’s always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team.”

His answer wasn’t the most revealing was it?

Where do Villa go from here?

Another question posed to Unai Emery is what the future looks like for him and for Aston Villa.

“I am so, so, so happy how the club is getting the commitment together with us, and how we are getting better, keeping our consistency in the Premier League, being in top five, last year top six, but two years ago, and this year fourth, and how we finished the first year as well playing in Conference League, I think this is the objective we have, how we can, even with the circumstances we have, be consistent,” Emery responded.

“And it’s not changing, but the effort (we are) doing, the club, is really a huge effort to try to be in the same direction like I am trying to be. And they are trying to extend now, Villa Park, to achieve 50,000 supporters next year. This is one step forward, the club as well, is trying to do.”

Emery feels ‘responsibility’ to play well

More from Villa’s manager now as he explained his team have a responsibility to perfom well tonight.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference yesterday, Emery said: “We are doing a good pre-season. We are testing and we are doing practice, trying to improve things for tomorrow, of course, and then the most important is the season.

“But tomorrow we are going to play one match, very important for our careers as a coach, as players, as a club – it’s a trophy.

“It’s one thing that can make us proud of how we are, and how we arrived here, and why we can have tomorrow a huge motivation to get our best – 6,000 supporters from Birmingham tomorrow, give us the responsibility as well to try to play for them.”

Unai Emery on the Super Cup

Villa’s manager sat down and spoke to the media ahead of tonight’s fixture and explained how he is excited by the prospect of potentially winning another trophy.

“Of course, it’s an opportunity, always,” Emery said. “A trophy is something that can give us a special moment, and to play for trophies, as a professional, is our objective.

“Then, if we are winning, of course we are happy. If we are not winning, we are not happy, but playing against the team now, it’s PSG, of course, they are favourites.

“But I am looking forward to playing, how we can test this match, against them, with our capacity, and with the moment we have now, with the players we have now.”

Alex Rodriguez defends Dodgers’ big-spending roster amid possible lockout

Published

on

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

With a lockout more likely than not at this point in Major League Baseball, the ongoing debate continues over whether the Los Angeles Dodgers are actually ruining the sport.

Many believe the Dodgers have simply broken baseball, particularly with Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million contract, 97% of which is deferred. They have won back-to-back World Series titles and are the favorite for a third consecutive title.

Not only did Los Angeles follow up its titles by signing the most touted reliever on the market in Edwin Diaz, but it also gave Kyle Tucker a deal that gave him the highest annual average value of $60 million, the most for any position player ever.

However, former slugger Alex Rodriguez isn’t buying the negativity surrounding the organization.

“I think it’s great. You and I both would be hypocrites if we said it’s not good when we saw what happened in the ‘90s here in New York, what happened in ‘09 when Hal Steinbrenner flexed his financial resources to go out and get [CC] Sabathia, [Mark] Teixeira and A.J. Burnett, and the year before we had Johnny Damon,” A-Rod told New York Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay on the latter’s radio show.

Rodriguez does make an interesting point — in 2005, the Yankees’ payroll ($208.3 million, per Baseball Reference) was almost double the second-highest payroll (the Boston Red Sox’s $123.5 million). The New York Mets ($101.3 million) were the only other team to have a nine-digit payroll.

While the Dodgers have finessed their contracts through deferrals and bonuses to make their actual payroll less than the actual value of the contracts, numerous other teams are actually still in the comparative ballpark. The Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays each have a tax payroll of at least $300 million.

Rodriguez noted that it’s not necessarily the amount of money but how it’s spent.

FORMER MLB STAR CALLS FOR SALARY FIX AS OWNERS, PLAYERS ASSOCIATION TALK ‘TWO DIFFERENT LANGUAGES’

“The key is not making the mistakes…” Rodriguez said, name-dropping Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon, who are combining to make $38 million this season while hitting a combined .215 with an OPS below .700.

“You have to be able to determine what is your inventory and what is it worth. Gene Michael used to be able to hold on to Bernie [Williams], [Derek] Jeter, [Jorge] Posada. That’s the key — you got to hold on to your early guys, and then move on for the others, use them as assets to complement your current roster.”

Again, to Rodriguez’s point, the Milwaukee Brewers, whose $153 million tax payroll is 19th in the league, own the best record in Major League Baseball. The Tampa Bay Rays rank 27th in tax payroll yet have the league’s second-best record, while the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox rank 26th.

Furthermore, three of the top five payrolls in the sport — the Mets, Phillies and Blue Jays — are currently out of the postseason.

The Inner Circle: “You are legendary”

Published

on

Abdulla Dayakaev of Russia secured his second straight win over “The Kicking Machine” Superlek at The Inner Circle 25 on Friday at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

After the rematch, the Dagestani fighter left with emotions that went well beyond a result on his record.

When Superlek’s right leg gave way in round two and the referee stepped in, the rivalry ended not with the finish Dayakaev had envisioned. Still, the 24-year-old was left with genuine concern for the man across from him.

Long before they ever shared the ring, Dayakaev had followed Superlek’s career and held him in the highest regard.

“Thank you, Superlek, for everything, for these two fights,” he told ONE Championship. “I wish you all the best. I wish you the best recovery and a fast recovery. I know you are a great fighter. You are legendary. I want to see you fight in kickboxing at 135 pounds again. I don’t want to fight with you again, but I respect you.”

Abdulla Dayakaev sets sights on Rambolek-Yod-IQ winner

With the Superlek chapter firmly closed, Abdulla Dayakaev’s attention shifts to the bantamweight Muay Thai title picture. Champion Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon defends against Yod-IQ Or Pimolsri at The Inner Circle 30 on Sept. 11, and Dayakaev has a score to settle with both men.

He has lost to each of them, giving the matchup a layer of personal stakes beyond the title itself.

“I really want to show myself in a world title fight,” he told ONE. “Right now, there’s almost nobody left. I want to fight the winner because Yod-IQ and Rambolek are two great fighters. I respect them also. I want to get the answer, and I want to fight the winner.”
