Teen Drowns In Rip Current At Rockaway Beach
A tragic incident has left a mother holding onto the few belongings her son left behind. ABC News reports that Patrice Thompson is clinging to the final memories of her son, Sir Audley Sykes, after he drowned at Rockaway Beach in Queens, New York. Sykes reportedly urged lifeguards to save his friend first.

Details On 17-Year-Old’s Tragic Death At Rockaway Beach
Sir Audley Sykes tragically died at Rockaway Beach in Queens on Sunday, August 9. Sykes reportedly drowned after a rip current caught him. Around 7:30 p.m. local time, lifeguards rushed into the water after spotting two swimmers struggling. Sykes and his best friend had got caught in the rip current together along the notoriously dangerous stretch of the shoreline. The incident happened after swimming hours, when lifeguards had reportedly already left their chairs. However, they remained nearby and had stayed late since were temperatures were hot that day. As the lifeguards moved in to help, Patrice said Sykes urged them to save his friend first.
“His best friend said he got tired and when he got tired […] that’s when the lifeguard got to him and he told the lifeguard to go to his friend and my son said, ‘no, go and pull my best friend out of the water,’” Thompson continued, “He would save someone else before he thought about himself and that’s the thing I appreciated about him the most.”
Teen’s Mother Is Clinging To His Memory After Tragic Swimming Incident
Sir Audley Sykes reportedly became the first person to drown at Rockaway Beach this summer. As his mother reflected on his final moments, she said she had to announce his passing just two days after celebrating her birthday. “I saw my baby on a stretcher, unresponsive, his heart beating on a machine,” Thompson said. Now, she’s holding onto the memories and the good times they shared. Thompson said those memories with her baby boy help her feel like everything “wasn’t just ripped away.” Patrice also shared that Sir was a great football player, adding that his teammates were “a great family to her and Sir.”
Sir’s Mom Says His Selfless Act Will Be A Part Of His Legacy
Funeral arrangements for Sir Audley Sykes remains private. However, an alleged GoFundMe page says he was his mother’s eldest son and he leaves behind six brothers. While speaking with ABC News, Patrice Thompson said losing Sir feels unimaginable, but she believes his desire to save his friend first shows the kind of person he was. “They always say the good die young,” Thompson said. “It’s gotta be for a reason.”

Family Locked Niece, 12, in Dog Cage Before She Escaped
Four family members in Missouri were arrested after they were accused of keeping a 12-year-old girl with special needs in a dog cage that was kept shut with pad locks, and it’s believed she was held there for up to two years before she managed to run away.
Shane Ross, Crystal Ross, Hannah Ross and Megan Ross have all been charged with abuse or neglect of a child causing serious emotional or physical injury and misdemeanor animal neglect or abandonment. The family members are all being held in Jasper County without bond.
Authorities learned of the incident on the morning of Sunday, August 9, when someone at a home in Joplin, Missouri, called the Joplin Police Department to report a missing child, according to court documents viewed by Law & Crime.
The caller claimed that the 12-year-old girl “had run away” from a home and she had been gone for about an hour. Police said she was described “as only wearing a diaper” and having “special needs,” per the report.
Authorities set out on a search for the girl and found her about two and a half hours later.
Joplin Police Chief Richard Pearson said during a press conference streamed by KSNF that the girl “appeared malnourished” when they found her. The girl “didn’t appear” to have any injuries, but Pearson said “the conditions of her health were unacceptable.”
Authorities said the girl was small for being 12, and she “was only 4 feet tall and weighed approximately 50 pounds.”
Once the girl was found, police responded to the home from where she reportedly ran away from. “From the outside, there was nothing that would distinguish it from any of the other properties in the neighborhood,” Pearson said. “But once you got inside, then that’s when you walked into the house of horrors.”
The home was said to be filled with “clutter, trash, food and clothing all over,” with the probable cause statement stating that it was hard to walk through the home. Police also said there were animals “walking freely about the residence,” while others were in cages.
Police noted there was a “foul odor” inside the home, and they found more than 80 animals in the house, some of which were dead.
A dog cage was found outside of the master bedroom, which the victim reportedly slept in “only in a diaper with a pillow and a blanket,” per court documents. The cage had “multiple pad locks” and zip ties that were used “to prevent her from escaping.”
Amid the investigation, police learned that Shane, 50, and Crystal, 46, were the parents of Hannah, 25, and Megan, 19. Shane told authorities that the victim was his niece and that she had been living with them for about 10 years.
The defendants all reportedly admitted they knew it “was wrong” to put the victim in a cage, and Crystal said “it was likely causing emotional and mental damage” to the girl. However, they claimed she was kept in the cage to prevent her from hurting the rest of them.
Police learned that the girl was kept in the cage at night for between one and two years, with Hannah and Megan saying “it was better” to keep her in the cage “than the family getting hurt” because the victim had allegedly “threatened to kill another family member in their sleep and threatened to burn the house down.”
The four adult family members have been arrested, and their preliminary arraignments are scheduled for Wednesday, August 12.
It’s not currently clear if the family members have entered pleas or retained legal counsel. The Joplin Police Department did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding the case.

Roomies, before Michelle Obama compared Megan Thee Stallion’s energy to Sasha Obama, Sasha was already reminding everybody that she’s that girl every time she steps out! And her latest public appearance had the internet locked in once again.
Sasha and Malia Obama recently joined their parents, Barack and Michelle Obama, at the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. 6 ‘Twilight Zone’ Actors Who Also Appeared on ‘Seinfeld’
Rod Serling‘s The Twilight Zone is a trademark series that changed the landscape of television with its innovative storytelling, exceptional performances, and powerful themes, and has since become a staple in television history and pop culture. The series is widely celebrated for its exceptional variety of classic stars such as Ida Lupino, Lee Marvin, and Burgess Meredith, and future icons like Robert Redford, Charles Bronson, and Elizabeth Montgomery. Although the show featured a collection of familiar faces, there are some notable players from the Fifth Dimension who managed to cross over into one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, Seinfeld.
Much like The Twilight Zone, Seinfeld was a cultural phenomenon that made its mark with timeless antics, relatable humor, and lovable, over-the-top characters, forging its own place in the history books of American television. Throughout the show’s nine-season run, Seinfeld subtly snuck in former TZ players such as George Murdock and Jesse White into various episodes, with many being a part of some of the show’s most memorable moments. From the legendary Bill Erwin to former B-Western star Peggy Stewart, these are six stars from The Twilight Zone who also appeared on Seinfeld.
6
Bill Erwin
Bill Erwin was a seasoned character actor who appeared in over two hundred and fifty movies and television shows, including I Love Lucy, The Untouchables, Somewhere in Time, and Home Alone. Born in Honey Grove, Texas, Erwin initially found immense success in television and made his first of four appearances in The Twilight Zone in season one, episode 3, ‘Mr. Denton on Doomsday.’ The majority of fans recognize him for his role as Peter Kramer in one of the show’s most famous episodes, season two, episode twenty-eight, ‘Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?’ Other appearances include uncredited roles in season one, episode five, ‘Walking Distance,’ and season four, episode five, ‘Mute.’
At the age of seventy-eight, Erwin landed a guest spot on Seinfeld in season four, episode eighteen, ‘The Old Man,’ as a cooped-up and foul-mouthed elderly man, Sid Fields, who is paired with Jerry as part of the Foster-A-Grandpa program. Between his character’s lack of a filter and constant poking at Jerry for his own amusement, Erwin left fans and critics with a lasting impression that earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
5
Lois Nettleton
Lois Nettleton was an award-winning television actress from Illinois who initially found success on Broadway and started taking on various guest roles in popular television shows by the mid-1950s. In 1961, Nettleton starred in season three, episode ten, ‘The Midnight Sun’ of The Twilight Zone, as a young woman, Norma, who is desperately trying to survive the scorching heat as Earth starts moving closer to the Sun. Considering the intense premise and small cast, Nettleton delivers one of the most sensational performances in the Fifth Dimension and is one of many stars who brought sophistication and genuine talent to the series’ timeless legacy.
Although Nettleton mainly took on dramatic roles, she wasn’t without a sense of humor and made a guest appearance on Seinfeld in season six, episode six, ‘The Gymnast,’ as Mrs. Enright, who is the mother of George Costanza’s (Jason Alexander) girlfriend at the time, Lindsay (Jessica Hecht). Even though her role was minor, fans will famously remember the scene where she watches on in horror as George secretly eats from the family’s trash can. Her shocked facial expression and uncertainty mixed with panic and sheer disbelief ultimately turned the already-humorous scene into one of the show’s most unhinged.
4
George Murdock
George Murdock was a successful character actor from Salina, Kansas, who was known for appearing in a slew of hit television shows, including Bonanza, Barney Miller, and Ironside. Murdock originally found success as an original cast member of the Los Angeles-based Melrose Theater and eventually moved into television by the 1960s. One of Murdock’s earliest television roles was a brief but iconic appearance at the end of The Twilight Zone season three, episode thirty-three, ‘The Dummy,’ which is easily one of the show’s most famous episodes. While his screen time is short, Murdock’s cheeky and twisted appearance at the end of the episode heightens the chills of an unexpected plot twist.
In Seinfeld season five, episode fourteen, ‘The Marine Biologist,’ Murdock appears as an intense Russian author, Yuri Testikov, whose book is about to be published by Elaine Benes’ (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)company. While in the car together, Testikov becomes annoyed by the beeping of Elaine’s electronic organizer and throws it out the window, leading Elaine to try to get the author to confess to his “crime” on tape in hopes that he will reimburse her. Murdock delivers an animated performance that aligns perfectly with the show’s humor while also bringing a touch of over-the-top nonsense and a bit of unpredictability that make the scenario unique and original.
3
Jason Wingreen
Jason Wingreen was a character actor who found quiet success as Harry Snowden in All in the Family, and was the original voice of the bounty hunter, Boba Fett, in Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back. Born in New York City, Wingreen studied acting at New York’s New School and co-founded the Circle Square Theater company before making his Broadway debut in 1954. Around the same time, Wingreen threw his hat into the television ring and made his first of three appearances in The Twilight Zone in season one, episode thirty, ‘A Stop at Willoughby,’ as a train conductor. He also appeared in season three, episode 10, ‘The Midnight Sun,’ and season four, episode eighteen, ‘The Bard.’
Wingreen continued to thrive in the television world, especially on sitcoms like Seinfeld, in which he made a brief appearance as a potential ticket buyer in season four, episode nine, ‘The Opera.’ Wingreen is one of several people who show an interest in buying two tickets from George and Kramer (Michael Richards), but even though George is okay with Wingreen’s offer, Kramer isn’t so easily swayed, and his lack of a filter sends Wingreen walking. Wingreen was more than a footnote in television history, and even though he doesn’t have a name or more than a few lines, his appearance on Seinfeld is a significant sitcom moment that deserves to be recognized.
2
Jesse White
Jesse White was a seasoned film and television actor who most people recognize for his portrayal of the repairman, Ol’ Lonely, in the Maytag commercials from 1967 to 1988. The New York-born actor initially made a name for himself on the Broadway stage before making his feature film debut in the classic film noir, Kiss of Death. While he continued to take on film roles, White also started earning bit parts in television shows, making his first appearance in The Fifth Dimension in season three, episode thirteen, ‘Once Upon a Time,’ starring Buster Keaton as, ironically, a repairman. White returned to The Twilight Zone as Harmon Cavender, an angel who is trying to earn his wings, in season three, episode thirty-six, ‘Cavender is Coming,’ starring Carol Burnett.
Over the years, White continued to work in both television and film while also appearing as the Maytag repairman. In 1996, White made his final television appearance on Seinfeld in season seven, episode fourteen, ‘The Cadillac,’ as Ralph, who lives in the same retirement community as Jerry’s parents. According to Jerry Seinfeld, he had been a fan of White’s since he saw him appear on The Ann Sothern Show and described having White on the show as a boyhood dream come true.
1
Peggy Stewart
With a career spanning over seven decades, Peggy Stewart was a film and television star who was known for her roles in B-Western movies and television shows such as Sheriff of Las Vegas, Oregon Trail, and the underrated Western series, Have Gun – Will Travel. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, Stewart made her feature film debut in the 1944 Western Wells Fargo, starring Joel McCrea, and signed a contract with Republic Pictures in 1944. While Stewart found moderate success in movies, she took on a handful of roles in a string of popular shows and starred in The Twilight Zone as Grace Stockton in season three, episode three, ‘The Shelter.’
By the 1960s, Stewart’s career had slowed down, but she still made a few occasional appearances in minor roles on popular shows and movies. In 1993, Stewart appeared on Seinfeld in season four, episode nineteen, ‘The Implant,’ as the aunt of George’s girlfriend, Aunt May, who meets her niece’s newest boyfriend for the first time at a family funeral in Detroit. Stewart’s appearance in Seinfeld may have been short, but it essentially helped revitalize her career, and she went on to appear in a variety of other modern hit series, including Frasier, Justified, Weeds, and The Office.

10 Most Universally Beloved Superhero Movies of All Time
The superhero genre is now the bread and butter of Hollywood. Compared to two decades ago, when you could still count superhero releases with one hand, there has been an abundance of comic-book adaptations for every fan to enjoy. These films have proven that stories about heroes are still needed in our day and age. At their best, these films entertain us with amazing spectacles and inspire us to do good.
Over the decades, a handful of these movies have gone beyond being successful blockbusters to become genuine audience favorites. Some deliver unforgettable characters, others provide pure escapism, while the very best manage to balance huge spectacle with surprisingly human emotions. From genre-defining classics to modern hits, these are the superhero films that have become universally beloved by audiences in every corner of the world.
10
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy follows Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), a human abducted from Earth as a child who calls himself Star-Lord. When he steals an Orb that contains an Infinity Stone, he is pursued by the fanatical Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). Quill finds himself reluctantly partnering with four outsiders Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), the genetically modified raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and the tree-like Groot (Vin Diesel) to stop Ronan from destroying the planet Xandar.
Guardians of the Galaxy was not a household comic book name, but James Gunn turns them into one of the most charming ensembles in cinema. When mixed together, the characters’ wildly different personalities created great chemistry. The team is funny, but never too silly, and they can still get the job done. Added with the film’s catchy soundtrack, the film became one of the best in the vast universe of Marvel. It is even compared to Star Wars and other beloved sci-fi titles for its imaginative world-building and distinct personality. The film is so adored by many that it spawned two sequels and the team popped up in major roles in the Avengers movies.
9
‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, a teenager living in Brooklyn who develops abilities after being bitten by a spider. As Spider-Man, he faces the Kingpin who opens up portal between dimensions that brings several versions of Spider-Men into his world, including Spider-Gwen and Spider-Man Noir. Together they must team up to close the interdimensional rift.
Into the Spider-Verse might be the film that kickstarted the multiverse trend in the superhero genre, and yet still leads the pack. First of all, the animation style is simply revolutionary. It imitates the feeling of reading comic-book panels with its energetic and dynamic style that is simply unlike anything that came before. The film itself has a great emotional coming-of-age story underneath all the spectacle. Miles’ journey is relatable to audiences of all ages who are trying to make difference in the world. The addition of the multiversal Spider-Men also adds more color to it, from the exhausted Peter B. Parker to the absurd Spider-Ham. It sounded impossible but the film’s sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is even bigger and better.
8
‘Superman’ (1978)
Superman is the granddaddy of superhero movies. It tells the story of Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) who assumes the identity of the hero Superman to protect the city of Metropolis from the egotistical Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman). At the same time, he also falls in love with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder), who works at the Daily Planet with him.
Richard Donner‘s Superman provides the blueprint for superhero movies in the years to come, even until today. The film captures the fun and sincere vibes of the comic book. Superman becomes someone you genuinely root for. Subsequent superhero movies are compared to this film, especially when they try to recapture this film’s atmosphere. Christopher Reeve’s performance is central to this achievement. His Clark Kent is funny and awkward, while his Superman is confident and compassionate. The movie also possesses an extraordinary sense of wonder, from John Williams‘ instantly recognizable score to the groundbreaking visual effects.
7
‘The Incredibles’ (2004)
In The Incredibles, superheroes have been forced into retirement. Former heroes Bob and Helen Parr are living seemingly ordinary suburban lives with their three children, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack. Bob, however, still wants to be a hero and when he receives an offer by tech billionaire Syndrome, the family eventually has to go back in action to save their city.
Pixar went ahead of the curve and released a masterpiece of superhero cinema before the MCU or even before Christopher Nolan reinvented the genre with Batman Begins. The film resonates with all demographic, from children who want fun, colorful action to adults who may relate more to the human drama of it all. The film’s retro-futuristic aesthetic, brilliant character animation, memorable villains, and Michael Giacchino‘s energetic score give it an unmistakable identity, but it is the Pixar warmth underneath all that spectacle that makes it endure. The family is set for another adventure in 2028.
6
‘Iron Man’ (2008)
Iron Man follows Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), a brilliant billionaire and weapons manufacturer, who gets kidnapped by a terrorist organization armed with his own weapons. Using scraps, he creates an armored suit to escape. After returning home, Tony announces that his company will stop manufacturing weapons and begins developing advanced versions of the armor and becomes Iron Man.
Iron Man is the film that marks the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe phenomenon. Without all the cinematic universe elements in place yet, the film is a perfect origin story for the hero. Robert Downey Jr.’s performance is charismatic, funny, arrogant, vulnerable, and effortlessly entertaining. His performance is responsible for transforming a then-obscure Marvel character into one of the most recognizable superheroes. What’s fascinating about Tony is that he is not a perfect person. He’s still selfish and arrogant at times, but he possesses the will to make the world a better place. Without the film being beloved, plans for the larger cinematic universe would have crumbled.
5
‘The Dark Knight’ (2008)
In The Dark Knight, Gotham City has become relatively stable after the combined efforts of Batman (Christian Bale), Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) clean the streets of the mob. But everything changes when the Joker (Heath Ledger) arrives. With only chaos and disorder as his motives, the Joker pushes the heroes to their limit as he wreaks havoc in the city.
In his Batman sequel, Christopher Nolan combines spectacular action with a genuinely compelling crime thriller, making the film closer to the likes of heat than its spandex-clad peers. Heath Ledger’s Joker performance is simply legendary. It earned him a posthumous Oscar and became the standard for subsequent portrayals of the clown prince of crime. With Nolan’s style, the film is intelligent without being inaccessible, dark without becoming joyless, and spectacular without relying solely on spectacle. Even if you do not care about superheroes in general, The Dark Knight is one of those rare occasions where you just have to join the crowd and see the film.
4
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ (2026)
With the world forgetting his true identity, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) works full-time clearing the New York streets of criminals as Spider-Man, while still keeping track of his friends MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) from afar in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His focus turns to a faceless threat that tries to break into the Department of Damage Control. On top of that, he begins to experience changes in his spider-like abilities which make him more unpredictable.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day might be the newest film on this list but it does not diminish the fact that audiences around the world truly love this film. It finally portrays Spider-Man dealing with his own problems and threats, not villains who are obsessed with Tony Stark, the Avengers, or other Peter Parker versions. With a new director at the helm, the film adopts a fresher look and a different approach to the action. Spidey himself is joined by the Punisher and Hulk, yet the story is still his alone. The result is a thrilling film that captures an exhilarating feeling of reading a comic book. Just several weeks into its release, the film has broken box-office records, including becoming the fastest film to hit the coveted $1 billion mark.
3
‘Spider-Man 2’ (2004)
Spider-Man 2 sees Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) struggling to balance his responsibilities as a superhero with his personal life, especially his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). A new threat emerges when brilliant scientist Dr. Otto Octavius’ (Alfred Molina) fusion experiment goes wrong and his mind is influenced by the mechanical tentacles that are meant to help him carry out his experiment. Doc Ock aims to finish his experiment no matter what it takes, even if it means destroying New York in the process.
Spider-Man 2 is an example of a quintessential sequel, and it remains among the very best of superhero movies. The film brilliantly portrays how being a hero means he has to take more responsibilities, just as his Uncle Ben said in the first movie. It shows Peter Parker’s growth and determination. Tobey Maguire gives an extraordinary performance while Alfred Molina immediately becomes an iconic villain in cinema. Sam Raimi manages to combine comic-book spectacle (most visible in the great train fight sequence), romantic melodrama, comedy, and tragedy without any of them feeling out of place. It’s a classic film that is responsible for the character’s popularity today.
2
‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019)
Five years after Thanos wipes out half of all life in the universe, the surviving Avengers are left struggling to live with their failure in Avengers: Endgame. When Ant-Man returns from the Quantum Realm with a possible explanation for how time travel could work, the remaining heroes reunite for one final attempt to undo Thanos’ snap. Their mission takes them across pivotal moments from their previous journeys, so that they can retrieve the Infinity Stones before Thanos can use them.
Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of over 10 years of movies. For more than twenty films, audiences have watched these characters from their beginnings to this moment. After the heartbreaking events of Avengers: Infinity War, this film became a must-see for superhero fans. The film itself also celebrates the characters’ journey by returning to the crucial parts of the previous movies. In lesser hands, it could be dismissed as fan service, but the film integrates them into the story that it became essential. The moviegoing experience for this film is simply unparalleled. Loud cheers and applause erupted when the heroes returned or when Captain America finally wielded Mjolnir. It’s a magnificent feat of a film that even Marvel itself is currently trying so hard to replicate the magic.
1
‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (2021)
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) life is in shambles after Mysterio exposes his secret identity to the entire world. Desperate to undo the damage, Peter asks Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a spell that will make everyone forget he is Spider-Man, but the spell goes wrong and begins pulling people who know Peter Parker from other universes into his world. Suddenly, Peter is confronted by villains he doesn’t even know of, including Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), and Electro (Jamie Foxx).
Spider-Man: No Way Home is beloved because it brings live-action Spider-Men from every generation into one movie. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were supposed to have at least one more movie before the situation changed, so their appearance in this film is very much welcomed. Bringing them and their villains into this film could easily be a cheap gimmick, but instead it shows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker’s character, who’s resourceful and always ready to help those in need. It is simultaneously a celebration of Spider-Man’s cinematic history and a genuinely bittersweet coming-of-age story, which is why its biggest moments resonate far beyond nostalgia.

‘God of War’s TV Adaptation Has To Get This One Thing About Kratos Right
Sony PlayStation’s mega-popular God of War video game franchise jumps into the live-action world with a new television show in the works for Prime Video. The series is currently undergoing some casting changes. Sadly, The Odyssey star Ryan Hurst, who previously portrayed Thor in the God of War: Ragnarök video game, will no longer portray Kratos in the series as originally planned, after suffering an injury during production. Deadline recently reported that former MCU star and WWE World Champion Dave Bautista is currently in negotiations to take over the role, but the recasting has not yet been made official. With the series undergoing production delays due to the recasting situation, it’s now a good time to reinforce the most important aspect of the series that showrunner Ronald D. Moore must get right to make this series work: Kratos’ Greek origins.
The ‘God of War’ Series Picks Up Much Later in Kratos’ Story
It’s important to note that the new live-action God of War show is not starting at the beginning of Kratos’ story, but instead, much later. The new show adapts the franchise’s Norse saga, which began with the 2018 video game God of War, which was a direct sequel to God of War III that concluded Kratos’ saga in the Greek pantheon. God of War in 2018 picks up years after Kratos arrived in Midgard, married Faye, who has recently departed, and had a son, Atreus. In both the 2018 game and the new series, Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey together to fulfill Faye’s last wishes and spread her ashes.
It’s easy to see why Sony PlayStation Productions and Amazon MGM Studios opted to base the new series on Kratos’ Norse adventures. In addition to recency bias and its undoubted popularity, the newer God of War games depict a Kratos who is very different from his earlier Greek adventures. In the Norse saga, Kratos has become far more tempered since arriving in Midgard, his relationship with Faye, and becoming a father to Atreus. Kratos regrets his past transgressions and no longer seeks violence and war, merely wanting to raise his son in peace and tranquility. Kratos in the Norse saga resembles Clint Eastwood‘s William Munny in Unforgiven, making him a much more well-rounded, introspective character. However, Kratos’ newfound introspection will mean nothing if the series avoids his tormented, blood-soaked past by ignoring his Spartan backstory and only embraces his Norse adventures.
Kratos’ Past in Greece Defines His Present
Although God of War is adapting the Norse chapter of the saga, the television series needs to nail Kratos’ backstory as a Spartan warrior, a demigod son of Zeus, the eventual new Greek God of War, and his connection to the rest of the Greek pantheon. Kratos’ origins define his character in the present, explaining why Kratos has become less violent and seeks to become a “better” man and example for his son. The shame of Kratos’ past is literally engraved on his skin, as his pale complexion is the result of how he once mistakenly slaughtered his own wife and daughter while in a blind rage. Their ashes were literally fused to his skin, a permanent reminder of the unforgivable atrocities he previously committed.
The concerning aspect of the television series is how it picks up in the middle of Kratos’ story. The original gamers who have been playing as Kratos since the first game came out in 2005 know the narrative from start to finish. They experienced every major milestone and event with the eponymous protagonist. However, the new television series basically picks up in the middle, without showing the audience the proper sequence of events and how Kratos arrived at this point. Essentially, the series could potentially rob viewers of Kratos’ most formative events and moments of character development. Imagine watching Dragon Ball Z, and Vegeta is introduced as a grumpy good guy from the beginning, rather than an outright detestable villain.
The ‘God of War’ Series Must Embrace and Depict Kratos’ Dark Past
The upcoming television show cannot downplay or avoid Kratos’ past sins; otherwise, it will come off like Ronald D. Moore and the writers are trying to make Kratos more traditionally heroic or likable. Part of what makes Kratos such an interesting character is that in the early games, he was not traditionally heroic or virtuous, but an antihero. Kratos frequently committed unforgivable acts, slaughtered innocents, and would kill anyone who stood in his way, whether they were deserving of his rage or not.
Although the original games leaned heavily into the catharsis of bloody vengeance and Kratos’ sometimes hedonistic ways, they also showed the hollow comfort of Kratos’ path for retribution. Kratos must eventually learn that he is his own worst enemy and the cause of his own torment, regardless of whether he was manipulated and tricked by the Gods of Mount Olympus. If Moore does not handle Kratos’ Greek backstory with care, it will prove detrimental to his new series. Showcasing Kratos’ origins in flashbacks remains crucial to the show’s success because it will highlight the character’s progression from a bloodthirsty demigod who is willing to kill innocent bystanders into a penitent father who wants to do right by his son and teach him a better path than senseless violence. Hopefully, Moore and the writers will find the right balance in God of War.

Influencer Michiel Vandeweert With Rare Genetic Disorder Dies at 28
Influencer Michiel Vandeweert, who had a rare disorder, has died. He was 28.
His death was shared by Flemish news broadcast VRT NEWS, who shared a statement by production company Boundbreakers. The production company had previously featured Vandeweert on the documentary series How to Be Alive.
“Michiel leaves a deep impression and an indelible memory with everyone who knew him or followed his story,” a statement, which was translated to English, read. “We wish the parents, sister, family, and friends much strength during these difficult times.”
Vandeweert was diagnosed with the rare progressive genetic disorder progeria at a young age. The disorder causes children to rapidly age and has a life expectancy of about 15 years, per Mayo Clinic. There is no known cure.
Vandeweert, who was a big fan of soccer team KRC Genk, was also honored by the organization after his death.
“With deep sadness, KRC Genk bids farewell to Michiel Vandeweert,” a statement, translated to English, read via Instagram on Monday, August 10. “Michiel was a true bon vivant and a loyal Genkie. His courage and positivity were a source of inspiration to many. Our thoughts are with Amber, his parents, family, and friends. Rest in peace, Michiel. 💙.”
Vandeweert’s funeral is reportedly set to take place inside the stadium.
“We have had funerals in our stadium before, but until now they were always in the business seats section,” Erik Gerits, Head of Community at KRC Genk, said in a statement translated to English. “This will be the first time we organize the funeral on the field itself. The plan is to place Michiel somewhere near the center circle and seat the spectators in the stands. Everyone who wishes to come is welcome to say goodbye.”
“It is very difficult to estimate how many people will turn up,” Gerits continued. “Fortunately, we are quite flexible and are ready for a small group, but also for a large group of people. We also have screens that we can work with.”
In a separate statement, Rik Kriekels — the mayor of Diepenbeek, where Michiel lived — paid tribute to the content creator.
“People sometimes complain and nag a lot about small things,” a statement, which was translated to English, read. “When you look at how Michiel lived his life, you can only have admiration for that.”
The creator documented his life on his social media accounts, where he amassed more than 90,000 followers online. At age 15, Vandeweert published the memoir Ik Ben Michiel, which translated to I Am Michiel, and detailed how he navigated his life with the disorder.
Michiel and sister Amber, who also has progeria, were also featured in the documentary series How to Be Alive, which was released earlier this year. The pair chronicled their lives with the condition in the series, which followed them for several months.

Marvel’s #1 TV Series Just Brought Its Biggest Fan Theory To Life
Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97 Season 2, Episode 9.
X-Men ’97 left no stone unturned in its Season 2 finale, “Survival of the Fittest.” Not only does this finale feature a free-for-all between the X-Men, X-Factor, and X-Force, but it also finally resolves the fate of Gambit (AJ LoCascio) after he was resurrected and possessed by Apocalypse (Ross Marquand). In true X-Men fashion, it’s a victory that’s both hard-earned and bittersweet, and will leave some fans heartbroken by the end. Yet it’s the mid-credits scene that’s truly shocking, as it pays off a long-running fan theory about one character.
The scene involves Val Cooper (Catherine Disher) going over files at her desk until the door opens…and reveals another Cooper, who’s shocked to see someone who looks like her. The Cooper at the desk shoots her duplicate through the stomach and then transforms into Mystique, who reveals that she intends to take Cooper’s place and destabilize the United States. Fans had long speculated that Mystique would show up at the end of the season or was secretly masquerading as Cooper, and this scene brings those theories to life. It also gives more context to the events that will play out in X-Men ’97 Season 3.
Mystique’s Presence Means The X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants Will Clash in ‘X-Men ’97’
The first look at X-Men ’97 Season 3 was revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, which features the Brotherhood of Mutants wreaking havoc before being chased off by red, white, and blue-themed Sentinels. It hints that Mystique will be stoking chaos by pitting the Brotherhood against the X-Men, while also using her newfound disguise as Cooper to command X-Factor to round up any mutants who might oppose her. Further complicating matters is the fact that Mystique’s son, Graydon Creed, is now the President of the United States; Creed’s made no secret of how much he hates mutants due to his upbringing, which introduces more of the personal dynamics that drive the best X-Men stories.Ironically, X-Men ’97 is actually tapping into a long-forgotten part of Mystique’s comic book history with its big plot twist. In Uncanny X-Men #199 by Chris Claremont and John Romita Jr, the shape-shifting villainess offers her services to Val Cooper, alongside the rest of the Brotherhood. Rechristened “Freedom Force,” they’re tasked with arresting threats to American citizens — starting with their former leader, Magneto. It remains to be seen how the Brotherhood plays into X-Men ’97, but an episode could see them donning their Freedom Force moniker and hunting down the X-Men, especially as Season 2 established the mutant heroes were outlawed from operating on American soil.
‘X-Men ’97’ Continues To Be Marvel’s Biggest Show
The Mystique plot twist all but ensures that audiences who’ve been tuning into X-Men ’97 will return for Season 3, and continue to make the series one of Marvel’s biggest hits. Not only has X-Men ’97 constantly stayed in the Top 10 charts for Disney+ during its run, but it also remains one of Marvel’s highest-rated television series. Marvel Animation head Brad Winderbaum also told Collider that Season 3 will mark the beginning of a yearly release for X-Men ’97, which will no doubt continue the series’ rapid momentum.
“Season 3 is going to come out next year and Season 4 the year after that…X-Men was a constant element of my life growing up, and I just want to make as many [seasons] as fast as possible for people to see.”
What makes X-Men ’97 such a hit is that it continues the story of X-Men: The Animated Series while also tackling deeper themes and staying true to all the elements that make the X-Men some of Marvel’s most popular characters. Introducing Mystique continues that trend, especially considering her own dynamic with the X-Men; it also adds an element of suspense to the mix. This is a character who can be anyone and everyone she wants, and like Val Cooper, you’d never know until it was too late.

Ray J Issued Loss In Legal Battle With Kim Kardashian
Ray J might be feeling down on his luck today, as he was issued a massive loss amid his legal battle with Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner. Legal documents released by various outlets confirm that a judge tossed out his request to block Kim and Kris’ defamation lawsuit against him.

New court documents obtained by TMZ and Us Weekly state that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied Ray J’s request to dismiss the defamation allegations brought forward by Kim and Kris some time ago.
In his filing, Ray J rejected the allegations that he defamed both Kim and Kris, stating that the comments heard on his Twitch livestream were “hypothetical statements” and that they were made when he believed he was off camera.
The LA judge didn’t buy into Ray J’s claims, noting that “a reasonable person” could conclude that Ray J made the statements about Kim and Kris as fact. The judge also said that Ray J knew the livestream camera was still on.
Ray J will face off against Kim and Kris in court; however, they won’t meet face-to-face and in front of a judge until May 2028.
Kim Kardashian And Kris Jenner Sued Ray J In October 2025

Kim and Kris sued Ray J in October 2025, claiming in their lawsuit that the singer’s then-remarks have created “substantial and ongoing harm to their personal and professional reputation.”
Kim’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, also noted in the court documents that Ray J, who had a highly publicized relationship with the reality star in the early 2000s, was “unable to accept the end of his fleeting relationship with Ms. Kardashian over 20 years ago.”
For those who may be unaware, Kim and Kris filed the lawsuit just weeks after the “One Wish” singer made headlines for suggesting the iconic mom and daughter duo took part in serious crimes.
“The federal RICO I’m about to drop on Kris, and Kim is about to be crazy,” Ray J said about them. “I’m talking about, I’m on the news every day. I’m gonna say a lot of sh-t. Anybody that is cool with Kim, they need to tell her now, the feds is coming. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
To make matters worse, Ray J said that Kim and Kris’ alleged legal woes would be “worse” than Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted in federal court of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Ray J Countersued Kim Kardashian And Kris Jenner A Month Later

In a dramatic turn of events, Ray J turned around and countersued Kim and Kris, accusing them of breach of contract for allegedly violating a $6 million settlement agreement they reportedly signed in 2023.
Ray J said in his documents, first reported by TMZ, that the two “Kardashians” stars were suing the 45-year-old to feed their ego and garner more attention to “support their various media enterprises.”
In addition to asking that Kim and Kris’ suit be tossed out, the “Sexy Can I” singer asked for $1 million in damages plus interest, attorneys’ fees, and additional relief that might be “just and proper.”
Kim Was Previously Accused Of Invading Someone’s Privacy Over Past Social Media Post

Kim has had her fair share of legal troubles over the last few years. According to a recent report from The Blast, the mother of four was previously sued by a man after Kim wrongly posted a picture of him on her Instagram and claimed he was on death row.
“Social media is a powerful force. It can be used for good: to spark social change, to warn of danger, and to foster relationships. But, when abused, social media can also inflict pain, suffering, and tragedy,” Ivan Cantu’s lawyers said in the suit.
“As a result of the Kardashian abuse, Mr. Cantu’s privacy was destroyed at a most critical and sensitive time, and he has suffered very real trauma that will last a lifetime,” they continued.
Kim Did Cantu A Solid After A Judge Sided With The Reality Star

A judge sided with Kim in the legal matter just weeks ago and actually ordered Cantu to pay Kim’s $167,000 legal bill. After Cantu told Kim’s team that paying such a huge fine would crush him, the SKIMS founder decided to spare him by waiving his debt.
“This is a lawsuit that should never have been filed. The court agreed and threw it out and ordered that [Cantu] pay Kim’s legal fees. Kim agreed to waive those fees and so [Ivan] has dismissed his case with prejudice,” Kim’s rep revealed.

Russell Westbrook Retires From The NBA After 18 Seasons (Video)
Russell Westbrook, the NBA’s career leader in triple-doubles and the 2017 MVP, is hanging up his jersey for good. He announced on Wednesday that he’s retiring after 18 seasons.

The two-time scoring champion shared his decision on social media in a post featuring a video narrated by actor Michael B. Jordan where the guard never says a word.
“Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end,” Westbrook wrote. “You had to be there. And now it’s over.”
Westbrook was the No. 4 pick in 2008 out of UCLA by the Seattle SuperSonics, just before they moved to Oklahoma City. He played his first 11 seasons with the Thunder and spent this past season with the Sacramento Kings.
Westbrook led the NBA in assists three times and was a two-time MVP of the All-Star Game. He won an Olympic gold medal in the 2012 London Games.
Westbrook leaves with 209 triple-doubles, the last on March 15. Nikola Jokic ranks second in that category with 198 going into this season. Westbrook also holds the NBA mark for most triple-doubles in a season with 42 in 2016-17, when he earned his only MVP award.
He averaged double figures for points and assists in five of six seasons starting in the 2015-16 season.
Westbrook also played for Houston, Washington, the Lakers and Clippers — splitting the 2022-23 season between the Los Angeles teams and Denver.
Last season, Westbrook started 58 of the 64 games he played for Sacramento. He averaged 15.2 points and 6.7 assists.
In 2021, the NBA selected him for the league’s 75th-anniversary team.
