Gold Coast Titans vs Cronulla Sharks Odds

Gold Coast Titans vs Cronulla Sharks Preview

Cronulla travels to the Gold Coast needing an immediate response after consecutive losses to the Dragons and Raiders pushed it out of the top four. Braydon Trindall’s injury forces Niwhai Puru into the halves alongside Nicho Hynes, although Addin Fonua-Blake’s return from suspension strengthens the Sharks through the middle. Gold Coast has lost three straight and concedes another reshuffle, with Cooper Bai set to start at lock and Chris Randall moving to the bench. The Titans did show more fight in a 36-26 defeat to Newcastle, but their defensive consistency remains a concern. Cronulla has won 12 of the past 13 meetings and scored at least 44 points in the last three. That history, combined with the Sharks’ finals urgency, points to a forceful attacking response.

The world already knows his name: Ronaldinho arrives at 3rd-tier Ravenna | Football News

Published

on

Brazil great Ronaldinho has landed in Ravenna, a city more famous for its nearby beaches than its soccer team.

The lyrics “and the world’s going to know your name” seemed ironically superfluous as one of soccer’s most recognizable figures stepped on stage in front of thousands of fans on Thursday.

That song, “Hall of Fame” by The Script, had been belted out throughout the presentation of third-tier Ravenna’s team for the upcoming season before the team’s new No. 10 walked out.

Thursday was dubbed “Ronaldinho day” as the soccer legend was presented first to the press before a glitzy beachside ceremony in front of around 6,000 fans, waving flags and holding flares aloft – despite the intermittent rain.

In a surprise announcement in June, the 46-year-old Ronaldinho signed with Italian third-division club Ravenna more than a decade after retiring.

“I’m very happy to be here with my friends, but let’s wait and see if things go well with the team,” Ronaldinho said Thursday when asked about how he was feeling, before later answering a question as to when Ravenna fans could expect to see him on the field.

“I feel fine,” he said with a laugh, before later adding: “I don’t know, it depends on the president and coach. I don’t know.”

Ronaldinho arrived by private jet at nearby Forli Airport – about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Ravenna – around midday local time. He signed a couple of soccer balls for airport staff before getting into a car on the runway, skipping the handful of fans that were waiting landside.

He was accompanied by Ravenna President Ignazio Cipriani of the Cipriani restaurant brand.

Ronaldinho will not feature in Ravenna’s first Serie C match of the season on Monday, at Reggio Emilia, and it is still unclear how much he hopes to play during the campaign. However, Cipriani has said it is his dream for the Brazilian to score his last career goal for the team.

“If that happens even better, no?” Ronaldinho said. “I’ve come here because of the friendship we have, and that’s it, let’s wait and see how the team does I’m here to help.”
Ronaldinho last played professionally for Fluminense in 2015. It marks his second spell in Italy after featuring for AC Milan from 2008-11. He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and the Ballon d’Or in 2005.

Bhaichung Bhutia’s Brutal Verdict On India-Brazil Clash: “Boycott That Match”

Published

on

Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia urged football fans to boycott the upcoming high-profile friendly match against Brazil in Kolkata. Bhaichung pointed out that spending crores for a 90-minute exhibition match will be a misuse of money when Indian football is in desperate need of financial assistance. India are all set to take on the five-time FIFA World Cup winners Brazil at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 3. Media reports claimed that the whole event will cost around Rs 60-70 crores and the AIFF decided to withdraw India from the FIFA ASEAN Cup in order to prioritise the Brazil clash.

During a recent interaction, Bhaichung urged football fans to not support the game. “Boycott that Brazil match. Then I think that is a big message. Then every organiser, every federation will think twice,” Bhaichung said on 420 Grams.

He went on to request the Bengal government to invest the money elsewhere and added that such a big amount can end up helping athletes and sports infrastructure in the long run.

“If the Bengal government is going to pay or try and raise [money] for this match, please raise it for Bengal to have the next few gold medals in the Commonwealth Games,” Bhutia said.

“So when you have Rs 30 crore, please invest it in the next four years to have 10 medals in the Commonwealth Games. We are trying to bring the Olympics here. Try and have Olympians from Bengal winning medals there. Or with the Rs 30 crore, make 100 futsal grounds — seven-a-side futsal grounds. You can have 100 grounds in different [areas]. Use it, utilise it properly. Don’t waste it for one 90-minute [match] and think the money is gone.”

The former India captain accepted that the excitement around a match against Brazil will be huge in India but questioned what would happen once the spectacle is over.

“If the match happens, everybody is excited, fans come in, you know, media, the government, everybody will be happy. But once the match happens, your money is gone and your football is 20 years behind,” he said.

St. George Illawarra Dragons vs Canterbury Bulldogs Odds

St. George Illawarra Dragons vs Canterbury Bulldogs Preview

St George Illawarra has doubled its season win tally across the past fortnight, upsetting Cronulla before edging Wests Tigers 24-22. Daniel Atkinson starts at fullback with Mathew Feagai on the wing, while the Dragons’ emerging forwards again face a demanding assignment. Canterbury has slipped outside the top eight after losses to the Roosters and Rabbitohs, making this contest effectively non-negotiable. Bronson Xerri returns in the centres and Enari Tuala moves to the wing following Jethro Rinakama’s season-ending injury. The Bulldogs have won six consecutive meetings, including a 15-14 golden-point escape in Las Vegas, although four of the past six clashes have produced no more than 38 points. Canterbury’s greater urgency and collection of attacking game-breakers should be enough, but the Dragons’ renewed resilience promises a tight contest.

Diamondbacks move Ketel Marte to IL after in-person meeting

The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated second baseman Ketel Marte from the restricted list and transferred the three-time All-Star to the 10-day injured list due to left knee inflammation on Thursday.

Marte and his agent, Charisse Espinosa-Dash, met with Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo on Thursday afternoon in Scottsdale, Ariz., to discuss what transpired in the wake of Marte not showing up for the team’s Monday game in Boston.

According to Hazen, Marte received an injection in the knee to help with the inflammation that was found by an MRI.

“I’m not gonna get into specifics,” Hazen said of his talks with Marte and Espinosa-Dash. “I feel like the conversation and meeting was productive. We discussed the last week. That, obviously, I’m not going to get into. He’ll talk to his teammates at some point and we’ll go from there.”

Lovullo had texted with Marte but the two had not spoken since the Monday no-show, and teammates also struggled to track down the 32-year-old veteran. Arizona shortstop Geraldo Perdomo said he did hear from his double-play partner on Tuesday and confirmed the MRI.

Marte exited the Diamondbacks’ Aug. 14 game against the Atlanta Braves with knee soreness and sat out the next day. He returned to play second base on Sunday and traveled with the team for the series against the Red Sox.

The drama began when he did not report to the ballpark on Monday, leaving Lovullo in the dark about his lineup until 20 minutes before game time. The team subsequently put Marte on the restricted list.

Due to the fact that Marte was on the restricted list, his IL stint cannot be backdated to Sunday. He will need to miss 10 days, starting with Thursday.

On Wednesday, Arizona snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-6, 10-inning win in Boston. The Diamondbacks, who were idle on Thursday, will host the Cincinnati Reds for a three-game series that begins on Friday.

The Diamondbacks are one game behind the San Diego Padres for the final wild-card spot in the National League.

2 Reasons Tony Khan should sign Ilja Dragunov to AEW and 2 reasons he should avoid doing so

Published

on

Tony Khan is known for signing top talent to AEW, and recent ex-WWE star Ilja Dragunov could be a prospect. Earlier today, PWInsider reported that The Mad Dragon’s WWE contract was already up and he had departed the company.

The Mad Dragon rose to prominence as one of the hard-hitting wrestlers of this generation. He signed with WWE in 2019 and had a remarkable run in NXT UK and then in NXT, which led to his call-up to the main roster in 2024. After a good start on RAW, Dragunov was sidelined with a torn ACL injury for a year. He returned to WWE on the October 17, 2025 episode of SmackDown, and won the United States title from Sami Zayn in his first match back in the Stamford-based promotion.

He had begun his resurgence; however, Dragunov was not seen on WWE television after April 2026. Due to his contract expiring, Dragunov is a free agent and could head to rival company AEW. At the same time, Tony Khan signing Dragunov might not be such a great idea.

So, here are two reasons Khan should sign him and two reasons he should not make this move:

#1. Should Sign – Potential for multiple exciting matches

There is no denying the exceptional in-ring acumen of Ilja Dragunov, which he proved time and time again during his run in WWE. The former WWE United States Champion produced stellar in-ring showdowns against top names like Gunther, Sami Zayn, Carmelo Hayes and more. He could bring his hard-hitting style to All Elite Wrestling if they sign him and deliver amazing matches against the talents there.

One of them could be the rising star, Kyle Fletcher. The Protostar and The Mad Dragon had squared off in their sole singles match at PROGRESS Chapter 100 in 2019, and Fletcher hinted at one more dance and Dragunov’s arrival to AEW right after the news of his WWE departure broke. Another top showdown could be against AEW top star MJF, who recently fired shots at him on social media.

Apart from them, Ilja Dragunov could test his mettle against legendary superstars currently signed to Tony Khan’s company. These could be names like Adam Copeland and Chris Jericho, who are still at the top of their game and could deliver highly exhilarating matches against the recently departed WWE star.

#2. Should not sign – Ilja Dragunov has not proven to be good at cutting promos

Ilja Dragunov has proven his worth as an in-ring competitor in WWE. However, the same could not be said when it comes to an important aspect that makes a wrestler a top attraction in the Sports Entertainment business: promo delivery. As seen during the majority of The Mad Dragon’s run, he was hardly given time on the microphone, and whenever he did get it, Dragunov’s promo skills failed to reach the same level as his in-ring talent. This led to his failure to become a major name, and the same could happen if he signs with AEW, which is a big reason Tony Khan should not bring him on board.

#3. Should sign – Capitalize on potential wasted by WWE

Ilja Dragunov has been credited by many as a ‘star in the making’ during his run in WWE after impressive stints in NXT UK, NXT, and SmackDown. However, WWE failed to capitalize on his immense potential because of lackluster booking and months off television. Tony Khan could succeed where his competitor failed and bring Dragunov to his roster to build him up as a top star, much like ex-WWE stars such as Swerve Strickland and Toni Storm, both of whom had less-than-impressive WWE runs and later became marquee names for the Jacksonville-based company.

#4. Should not sign – Stacked roster

While Ilja Dragunov is a top prospect for Tony Khan to sign to All Elite Wrestling, a major roadblock could be their current stacked roster. The AEW head honcho has signed a lot of talent over the years, and many of them have been lost in the shuffle. In fact, multiple wrestlers are still signed with the promotion, not being featured on television and still being paid by Khan. According to a recent report by Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez, Khan does not cut talent from his roster, like WWE does every year. Alvarez also added that he was given the impression that several AEW wrestlers would not be released, but the promotion would just let their contracts expire.

“I’ve been given the impression that there are a lot of AEW contracts he’s not gonna cut, but they are just going to quietly expire, probably like a lot of people.” – H/T Ringside News

The same could happen with a talent like Ilja Dragunov. If he signs with AEW, he could be used well for a while, but then be sidelined on the bench due to limited TV spots or poor creative booking and eventually released from the company.
